Born in New Glasgow, he was a son of the late Arthur and Jean (Treen) Ritchie. Alan was a RCMP officer with 30 years service, having retired in 1991. NAGY, Ernest Joseph November 25, 1923 - March 20, 2008 Ernest Nagy, beloved husband of Joyce Nagy of Calgary, passed away on Thursday, March 20, 2008 at the age of 84 years. Ernest was born on November 25, 1923 on Sec 10, Tp 20, Rge 33 W.1st near Yarbo, SK. He attended Muenster College in Saskatchewan where he graduated in 1941. Ernest went on to become an industrial mechanic, machinist and welder. He moved to Calgary where he started his first business, Hydraulic Sales and Service, in 1950. He retired at age seventy-six from Plains Fabrication and Supply. Ernest was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church and a charter member of the Forest Lawn Catholic School Board in the late fifties and early sixties. He had a passion for music, especially the piano. Ernest was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing and gold-panning. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren knew him as "Magic Grandpa". We believe Ernest touched our lives and so many other lives with his bold, colourful and enthusiastic living, and we are better people for having had the opportunity to share life with him. His children are extremely grateful to Joyce for making Dad's life so full these past few years and for caring for him. Besides his loving wife Joyce, Ernest is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Jean and Dave Lentz of Port Dover, ON; five sons and daughters-in-law, Gayhardt and Sheryl Nagy of Bonnyville, AB, Ernest Jr. and Carolyn Nagy of Qualicum, BC, Benedict and Brenda Nagy of Athabasca, AB, Chester and Murielle Nagy of Calgary, and Cindy and Dean Nagy of Glendon, AB. BERRY, Judith, Elizabeth - Peacefully with family by her side, at St. Mary's of the Lake Hospital, after a valiant struggle with cancer, on Sunday, March 23, 2008. Judy (nee Pardo), in her 63rd year, is survived by Wayne, her devoted and loving husband of 42 years, her loving sons, Kevin and Jamie (Christine), as well as her grandchildren and great grandchildren. GARNETT, LEBARON A. - The death of LeBaron Albert Garnett, husband of the late Charlotte (Ross) Garnett, occurred on Monday March 24, 2008 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born 1940 in Saint John he was the son of the late Ronald and Hazel Irene (Jones) Garnett. He worked as a Pressman for NB Publishing for 40 years, retiring in 1994. He is survived by one son Ronald Garnett-Doucette (Bryan) of Halifax, N.S; daughters Wilma McKinnon (Harold), Saint John, Marilyn Logan (Donald) of Willow Grove, Lynn Willis (Rodney) of Saint John, May Garnett (Daniel) of Calgary, A.B and Mary O'Reilly (John) of Provost, A.B; four grandchildren Sandy, Jacqueline, Michelle and Tyson; one great-grandson Mason; sister Marie Sproul of Saint John and niece Shelly Smith of Ontario. Besides his parents and wife Charlotte of 47 years, who passed away June 2007, he was predeceased by a brother-in-law Francis Sproul. WALSH, Samuel J. Passed away on March 18, 2008, at the age of ninety-one. He was born on August 31, 1916, the youngest son of Hirsch Wolofsky, publisher of the Montreal Yiddish newspaper "The Canadian Eagle", and Sarah Bercovich. Upon enrolling as a biology student at McGill University, he joined the Young Communist League and changed his name to Walsh on his father's request. After obtaining his B.Sc., he worked full time for the Communist Party of Canada. In 1962 he became the leader of the Communist Party of Quebec, a position he held until a stroke robbed him of his mental faculties in 1990. He is survived by his younger sister Miriam Cooperberg, his son Timothy, his daughter-in- law Victoria, his grandsons Martin and Anthony, and numerous family members and friends. BOLEY, Mitchel William 1959 - 2008 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our son and brother, Mitch Boley. Mitch was born in Sarnia, ON in 1959 and lived there until he moved west to Calgary with his family at the age of eighteen. Mitch enjoyed many years of employment with Atco Trailers until an industrial accident that left him unable to continue on there. Mitch's accident led to many challenges with his health. Even though Mitch lived with pain daily, he always tried to maintain his sense of humor and carry on. He had a passion for cars and trucks and played guitar in his leisure time. Among other things, we will remember Mitch for his unique Christmas gifts for the family. Mitch is survived by his mother, Donna Boley; his brothers Dennis (Lori), Keith, Gordon and sister Barb as well as several nieces and nephews. EUSTAQUIO, Joy-Anne Silvestre 1981 - 2008 Joy-Anne, beloved daughter of Dennis and Nitz Eustaquio, of Calgary, passed away March 23, 2008 at the Foothills Hospital at the age of 26 years. Despite her illness Joy finished her Bachelor of Science in philosophy at the University of Calgary in 2007, but against all odds within the last six months of her life she pursued her dream to become a teacher. She became an English teacher in South Korea, touching a lot of hearts there. Joy will be sadly missed very much by her family, friends and all who's hearts she touched. Now she is free to embark once again on a new journey. GIANNOULIS, Dr. Dimitrios Jim 1969 - 2008 Dr. Dimitrios Jim Giannoulis passed away in Vancouver, BC on March 23, 2008 after a valiant battle with cancer. Dimitrios was born September 13, 1969 in Calgary, AB. He completed his secondary education at Strathcona Tweedsmuir in Okotoks, before going to McGill University where he completed his Bachelor Science in 1991. He attended University of Alberta, graduating from Medicine in 1995, and then completed his Anesthesia residency at University of British Columbia in 2000. Dimitrios loved the city of Vancouver, and was happy to join the Anesthesia department of Vancouver General Hospital, where his love for his profession and adopted city prompted him to actively recruit resident students to the Anesthesia program in Vancouver. Dimitrios was well known for his humor that would break the ice, the music that he always had playing - even in the operating room and most of all, for the dignity and compassion he shared with everyone he encountered. Dimitrios was a very dear person to his family who will miss his generosity, kindness and passion for the treasure of family moments. He is survived by his parents, Constantinos and Adamantia Giannoulis; his siblings and their families, Constantina Giannoulis-Stuart and her husband Gerry, Maria Petropoulos and her husband George and their sons Nonda, Kosta and Lukas, all of Calgary. There are many aunts, uncles and cousins in Calgary, Montreal, USA, Greece and Europe who will miss his joy for life. She and Paul were married for more than sixty years and farmed in the Golden Prairie, Saskatchewan area. They later retired to Medicine Hat, finally moving to Calgary to be closer to their children. MOSCOVICH, Goldie Mrs. Goldie Moscovich passed away peacefully on March 22, 2008 at 82 years of age. Goldie and her husband Jack were sweethearts for sixty-two years. She is survived by her devoted husband Jack, loving daughter Shauna, son-in-law Charles Bell, and two grandchildren Savannah and Devon, who adored spending time with their "Bubbie". Goldie derived great joy from her two clever, beautiful granddaughters whom she loved to play and joke with. Wherever she was, Goldie brought a big smile, a bigger heart and an even bigger desire to "have some fun". We miss her deeply. PENNEY, Hilda "Joan" Hilda "Joan" Penney passed away suddenly at the Peter Lougheed Hospital on Sunday, March 23, 2008. Joan married Lenford John Penney during WWII in England in 1943. Joan came to Canada as a war bride, bringing their daughter Sonia, arriving at Pier 21 in Halifax on the Queen Mary in 1946. Joan then took the train from Halifax to Calgary where she met up with her husband Len and they continued their married life together raising their three children. She leaves to mourn, her children Sonia (Walter), Stewart (Bessie), Lesley (Jake); grandchildren Dean, Lennie, Todd, Tyler, Tim, Alexandra and Kelly and her great-grandchildren Nicole, Jessica, Katlyn, Nolan and Reece. She was predeceased by her husband Len on March 14, 1995. Many thanks to Dr. Rigby and the Emergency Staff at the Peter Lougheed Hospital for their excellent care of our mother Joan. DUNN, Josephine Elizabeth (Peggy) May 5, 1933 - March 1, 2008 Peggy passed away suddenly on March 1 at Bow View Manor in Calgary. She is survived by her sisters, Norma Duncan (Bob) and Anne Russell (Martin) of Calgary, and her sister and brother, Helen Martin (Stan) and Will Dunn (Lorraine) of Peterborough, Ont. She was predeceased by her parents, her infant sister Elsie May Dunn, and brothers Gordon Dunn (Edith) and Eric Dunn (Helen). Peggy was born at Melrose, NB to parents Joseph and Lillian Dunn as one of seven children. The family moved to Truro, NS in the 1940's and to Peterborough, Ont. in the 1950's. Upon the death of her parents in the 1990's Peggy moved to Calgary to live with her sister Norma and brother-in-law Bob until 2002 when due to an injury she entered the Peter Lougheed Hospital and later the Bow View Manor. Peggy had many friends in Calgary, notably at the Rehabilitation Society of Calgary, at Calgary Community Day Services Inc. and at the Bow View Manor. The family wishes to thank the many people who helped and were friends to Peggy. Peggy was interred on March 8 alongside her parents and elder brother Gordon in Peterborough, Ont. She was loved and will be greatly missed by her several nieces and nephews in Ontario and in Calgary, her friends in Nova Scotia, and her friends and family in Peterborough and in Calgary. MARTIN, Kathleen Emily It is with sadness that Kay's family announce her passing on Sunday, March 23, 2008. She had resided in Calgary until recently when she moved to Medicine Hat in order to be closer to her family. Kathleen had been very active with the United Church, having served with the U.C.W. for many years. Her friends at Wild Rose United Church were quite dear to her. She also volunteered as a driver with Meals on Wheels and her family ask that memorial donations be made there in honour of Kathleen. McNAIRN, Harold Norman "Hip" McNAIRN, Harold Norman "Hip" - 88, Dartmouth, passed peacefully from this life on March 21, 2008. Born in Mitchell, Ont., in 1919, he was the first child of Norman and Agnes (Tomlinson). He volunteered for service in the RCN after the breakout of the Second World War, and was posted to Stadacona, Halifax, where he met Madeline (Clattenburg), the love of his life. They were married at Christ Church in Dartmouth in October 1942 and celebrated 65 years of marriage in 2007. Harold served on the HMCS Gananoque, Noranda, Sorel and the Destroyer Huron, serving above the Arctic Circle on the Murmansk Run to Russia for which he received a medal from the Embassy of the Russian Federation. He was known to the crew of the Huron as "The Boss" and is remembered fondly to this day. After returning from overseas, Harold trained in Kitchener, Ont., to become a barber. He opened McNairn's Barbershop in Eastern Passage, which he operated for 30 years. In 1974, he joined the staff at the Nova Scotia Hospital as the on-site barber. He retired in 1985. Harold was a long-time member of the HMCS Huron Association and the NSGEU. He enjoyed sports, photography, his boat, archery, fishing, walking, gardening, darts, and was an avid reader. Harold was very handy around the house long before Red Green. He had a wonderful sense of humour and we will sure miss his wit. Harold was a most devoted, loving family man and was dearly loved. Besides his wife, Harold is survived by daughters, Judy (Gordon) Morrison, Janet McNairn, Patricia (Lawrence) Taylor, and grandchildren, Jason Winn, Lisa Winn, Barrett Morrison, Stephen Morrison, Yolanda Hampden, Christopher Taylor, and Alex Taylor; brother, Keith McNairn, Mitchell, Ont.; sisters, Audrey Goforth, Bradford, Ont.; Shirley Bevan, Almonte, Ont.; Marjorie Francis, Kitchener, Ont., and Onilee Knott, London, Ont., and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Jack McNairn (Mitchell, Ont.). The family wishes to thank his wonderful caregiver, Maxine Farmer, for bringing so much love and laughter into his life during the last two years. We also wish to say thank you to the staff at Glasgow Hall, Parkland at the Lakes, and acknowledge the exceptional and loving care he was given. He made many friends in his last few weeks of life. A memorial service will be held in Christ Church, Ochterloney and Dundurn in Dartmouth at 2 p.m. on Monday, March 31. A reception will follow in the church hall.
