BANNING, Steve (Stevie) 2008-03-24 Mr. Steve Banning (Stevie), born April 26, 1947, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 21, 2008 with family by his side at St. Joseph‘s Hospice after a lengthy illness. Steve was born, raised and educated in Fort William. He loved working as a Journeyman Iron Worker with Local 759 all over Canada and the United States. He enjoyed the outdoors in particular boating, hunting and fishing. Steve enjoyed his many trips with his friend Leo across Canada and the United States in search of his "dream car". He also had a passion for rebuilding and driving classic Hot Rods. Steve loved to spend time with his animals especially Dutch, Gus and Chance. His family especially his grandchildren meant the world to him. Survived by his devoted wife Judy of 18 years; children Leonard, Jason (Cora), Melissa (Clint) and Donnie (Leeann); grandchildren Ryan-Son, Bradley, Andrew, Tyra, Jordan, Amber, Joseph and Danika; stepchildren Wendy and daughter Kia, Kim and son Jaedon and Candace. Also surviving are his parents Frank and Evelyn; sisters Gloria (Don) Zeleny, Lynda (Armand Morin), Kelly and Cathy (Regis) Laforest; brothers Roy (Jerri), Keith (Karen), Rodney (Celeste), Kevin (Janet), Mark, Larry (Jolene) and his first wife Karin (George). Numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive. Predeceased by his son Stephan in 1990, his grandparents Elizabeth and Joseph O‘Conner and May and Jacob Banning. Funeral services for the late Mr. Steve Banning will be held on Wednesday, March 26, 2008 leaving the WESTFORT CHAPEL, 420 Gore Street West at James at 10:15 AM to St. Patrick‘s Cathedral for the Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM celebrated by Rev. Msgr. P.M. Stilla, V.G. Interment to follow in Immaculate Conception Cemetery on Fort William First Nation. WATSON, ELSIE PATRICIA FILLMORE - Elsie Patricia Fillmore Watson passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Saturday, March 22, 2008. She was the daughter of the late Buela May (Sommers) and George Wilson. She was born on March 5, 1934. Survived by three sons, David Fillmore (Brenda), Billy Fillmore and Ivan Watson (Kim); two daughters, Brenda Fillmore (Guignard) and Karen Watson (Michael); 10 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; special granddaughter, Vicki (Guignard) Dow who always made her laugh; four brothers, George Wilson (Bessie), Raymond Wilson (Jean), Robert Wilson and James (Jim) Wilson (Anne); two sisters, Phyllis Toy (Rick) and Edith Urchuk; and several nieces and nephews, and special niece and friend, Betty Collins. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by first husband, Lew Fillmore and second husband, Adrian Watson; one grandson; one great grandson; one brother, Manford Wilson; one sister, Melba Collins. Elsie enjoyed spending time with Misty the dog, and loved to go for long drives in the country. She enjoyed working in her garden and going to church suppers with her best friend Vera Northrup. A Memorial Service will be held from Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road, Saint John (646-2424) on Tuesday March 25, 2008 at 12 noon. Family will receive friends from 10 am until service time. COOK, HELEN MARY - Peacefully, at the Charlotte County Hospital, St. Stephen NB on March 23, 2008, Mrs. Helen Mary (Ganser) Cook, wife of Mr. Carroll Reginald Cook of Back Bay NB. Born in New York, NY on May 28, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Gertrude Ganser. A loving wife, mother and grandmother, she is survived by her husband, Carroll; three sons, Douglas (Marguerite) Cook of Utopia NB, Phillip (Lois) Cook and Michael (Kim) Cook both of Back Bay; one daughter, Cecelia (Pat) Dube of Saint John NB; 10 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Helen was predeceased by one son, Daniel. Helen loved cooking and sewing and had a passion for gardening. She was a avid CB'er who handle was "Grasshopper." She will be sadly missed by all her family and friends. Resting at the St. George Funeral Home & Crematorium (755-3533), 26 Portage Street, St. George, NB from where the service will be held from The Gary E. STUBBE, Cindy Lee Elaine (nee Heinrichs, Ross) 2008-03-24 It is with great sadness that we announce that Cindy passed away on March 19, at Thunder Bay Regional Hospital, with her loving husband Marcel at her side after a courageous battle with cancer. Left to cherish her memory forever are her husband Marcel, her Mom Pat Heinrichs (Bill McGiffen), sister Debbie, brothers Brad (Ingrid) and Monti (Vicky) Heinrichs. She will also be lovingly remembered by mother-in-law Hennie Stubbe, stepsisters Jennifer, Janet and Melissa, her nieces, nephews, many close friends and relatives. We‘d like to Thank the doctors and nurses at CancerCare Manitoba, St. Joseph‘s Hospice and Thunder Bay Regional Hospital who helped at such a difficult time. SCHAAF, Donovan Lee 2008-03-24 Donovan Lee Schaaf, 15 years, of Hurkett, Ontario passed away unexpectedly on Friday, March 21, 2008 at the Nipigon District Memorial Hospital, Nipigon, Ontario Donovan enjoyed life, especially reading and his family. He treasured the time he spent with his grandmother Janet in Pinewood. Summer camp at Sunny Cove became a highlight and he anticipated going to Dorion Bible Camp this year. He will be dearly missed. He was a beloved son, brother, grandson, nephew and cousin. Predeceased by his grandfather Edward Schaaf; he is survived by his parents – Vanessa and Murray Nichols, by his sister Deanna at home, by his grandparents – Janet Schaaf of Pinewood and Con (& Maureen) Nichols of Hurkett. Numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and other relatives also survive. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, March 25, 2008 at 11:30 A.M. at the Hurkett Community Centre with the Rev. V. Koop of Dorion Bible Fellowship officiating. Interment will be in Dorion Mountainside Cemetery.

O'LEARY, MARY ALICE The death of Mary Alice O'Leary, formerly of Norfolk Drive, Fredericton, occurred on March 22, 2008, in her 96th year. Mary was predeceased by her husband, Hazen; parents, Rankin and Georgia McKay; sister, Jennie Parker; and brothers, Otis and Bill. She is survived by four daughters, Marina (Richard Evans) of Waterville, Quebec, Carol (Eric Scott) of Miramichi, Sue (Bob Scott) of Kerrs Ridge, and Alice (Gary Flinn) of Fredericton; and brother-in-law, Phillip O'Leary. She will always be loved by grandchildren, Angela, Jennifer, Tom, Tim and Richard Evans, Shelly VanBuskirk, Cindy Sivitilli, Rod and Peter Scott, Benjamin, Nathaniel and Shane Scott, David and Michael Flinn; several nieces and nephews. Mary was a devoted and loving wife, mother, and grandmother. Her family was her life. She was also "Great Mum" or Nanny to 20 great grandchildren. She was a member of St. Margaret's Anglican Church, and a life member of the Lincoln Women's Institute. In earlier years, she operated the cafeteria at the Agricultural Research Station and worked in food services at the former Victoria Public Hospital. Visitation will be at McAdams Select Community Funeral Home (www.mcadamsfh.com), 160 York Street from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 PM on Wednesday, March 26th. MCKAY, INEZ MARGARET The death of Inez Margaret McKay of Mount Saint Joseph Nursing and formerly of Strathadam, NB, widow of Cecil McKay occurred at the nursing home on Friday, March 21, 2008 at the age of 92. Inez was the daughter of the late Dennis and Margaret (Estey) McLean. Inez attended St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, was a member of the CWL, Ladies Auxiliary Branch # 90 Sunny Corner, NB and Friendly Neighbors Senior Citizen Group. Inez is survived by three daughters, Donna Vezina (Florian) of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Trudy Taylor (Terry) of Strathadam, NB and Maureen Harris (Greg) of Trout Brook, NB; two sons, Ned (Deanna) of Fredericton, NB and Rick (Kim) of Strathadam, NB; one daughter-in-law, Norma McKay of Saskatoon, SK; one son in law, Blair Scott of South Esk, NB; one sister, Bonnie McAllister and one brother, Ned (Marie) McLean all of North West Bridge, NB; 19 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews. Inez is predeceased by one daughter, Freida Scott; one son, Bill; two sisters, Agnes and Edith; and two brothers, Hershel and Barry. The family will receive visitors at Bell's Funeral Home, on Sunday from 7 to 9 and Monday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church on Tuesday, March 25, 2008 at 11 AM with Father Tom Fowler officiating. Burial will take place in St. Mary's Roman Catholic Cemetery later in the spring. DOWNEY, Earl (Bud) Rev. - On March 19, 2008, at the age of 75 years, Bud Downey stepped into God's presence where he is now fully rejoicing in the Saviour he loves. Beloved husband of 57 years to Margaret (nee Dawson). Cherished father of John Downey (Winanne) of Regina, and Patty Leno (Garth) of Windsor. Treasured grandfather of Nathan (fiancée Sarah Lefrancois), Jamie, and Kristin Leno. Loving son of the late Erwood and Gladys Downey of Port Hope, Ontario. Bud was a pastor with The Christian and Missionary Alliance in Canada, and retired from the Rexdale Alliance Church. He loved the Lord Jesus Christ with his whole heart, and he was extremely proud of his family. SYVITSKI, Sally 2008-03-24 Mrs. Sally Syvitski, age 89 years, a resident of Thunder Bay, passed away at her home on Saturday, March 22, 2008. Sally was born in rural Manitoba, and as a young girl moved to Fort William where she started work at Dresswell Cleaners. It was there she met Lawrence (Lorne) Syvitski. They were married and from then on Sally‘s life was centered around her husband, and daughter, Cathy. Their home was always open to everyone and especially to extended family. Sally was a remarkable lady who was strong willed, yet fair and always very considerate of others. She always made sure everything was just right for her “angel” Cathy. She put into place a circle of family, friends and neighbours who all care for and love Cathy, with the love only a mother could. Sally is survived by her daughter Cathy, brother John Polusny, nephews Chester and Randy Shynkaryk, Paul Polusny, niece Joyce Polusny, sisters-in-law Jennie Mastrangelo, Rose Zelinski, Margaret Fodchuk, Florence Wilkinson and Stella Syvitski; brothers-in-law John, Martin and Raymond Syvitski and other relatives also survive. She was predeceased by her parents, husband Lawrence “Lorne” and sister Lena. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 26, 2008 when family and friends will gather for the Funeral Mass in St. Patrick‘s Cathedral at 1:30 p.m. celebrated by Rev. Msgr. P.M. Stilla V.G. Interment will follow at Mountain View Cemetery. Vigil prayers will be offered on Tuesday evening at 7:00 p.m. in the Blake Funeral Chapel. SZABO, Geza - of Port Colborne died at the Port Colborne General Hospital on Saturday March 22, 2008 at the age of 87 years. Beloved husband of Ruth (nee Goring), loving father of Christine (Rick) White of Oakville, dear grandfather of Emily White and Ellen White both of Toronto. Also survived by several nieces and nephews. Geza was predeceased by his daughter Deborah Szabo (1971), his parents Geza and Julia Szabo and his brothers Charles Szabo and Andrew Szabo. Born in Hungary he came to Port Colborne in 1929. He served with the Canadian Army during World War II. Geza worked at John Deere and then at Algoma Steel from where he retired. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church. TERRY SMITH We regret to announce the sudden and unexpected passing of Terrance David (“Terry”) Smith, 60, on March 24, 2008 at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre in Thunder Bay, Ont. Terry was born in Fort Frances, Ont., on Aug. 31, 1947 to Richard (“Dick”) and Thelma Smith. He grew up in Fort Frances, where he attended local schools before moving to Thunder Bay as an adult. Terry drove taxi for many years, starting with Lacey’s, then the last 15 years with Roach’s Taxi. His chosen vocation put him in touch with people of all walks of life. He enjoyed his work immensely and took great pride in serving the public. Terry was a very social guy who gathered on a regular basis for coffee with “the group.” He was an avid member of the Selectamatic Pool League (friends who shared these times with Terry will miss him) and also was a member of the Moose Lodge. He always had a smile for everyone, and was a fan of car racing and enjoyed his car and motorcycles. Terry is survived by his son, Terrance Richard (“Rick”); and granddaughters, Caley, Alysha, Tamaysha, and Sharaya, all of Thunder Bay, Ont., who will dearly miss their “Gramps.” He also is survived by his stepdaughter, Catharine; brother, Gordon (Norma) Smith of Thunder Bay, Ont.; sister, Evelyn (Bill) Shine of Fort Frances, Ont.; aunts, Gweneth Richardson and Violet Friesen; uncle, Clifford Richardson; and many nieces and nephews and other relatives. Terry was predeceased by his parents, Dick and Thelma Smith; sister, Marilyne Smith; and stepson, Joseph. Cremation has taken place and no formal service will be held. An informal gathering for “coffee” and remembrance in honour of Terry will be held Sunday, April 20, 2008 from 2-4 p.m. at the Moose Hall in Thunder Bay (434 Fort William Rd.) KENNEDY, Annie Alma (nee McCormick) Annie Alma Kennedy passed away peacefully at the Rockyview General Hospital on Thursday, March 20, 2008 at the age of 98 years. Annie is lovingly remembered by her daughter-in-law Patricia, grandchildren Randy, Gayle, Ross, Jess and Kevin; great-grandchildren Shannon, Colleen, Gregory, Nikki, Ali, Ryan, Jason and Matthew; and great-great-grandchildren Kaleigh, Dylan, Chantel and Chase. She is also sadly missed by the McCormick family: Peggy, Doug, Pat, Audrey, George, Joanne, Marilyn, Gary, Roger, Angella, and Colleen as well as by numerous nieces, nephews and relatives. CRAVEN, Sheryl Ann - On Sunday March 16th with fiancé John by her side, The Queen - also known as Sheryl Craven, completed her journey in this life. Born in Kenora, Ontario, on December 2nd, 1960, mom was predeceased by her parents, Roy and Laura Craven. She is survived by her daughters James (Bryan), Britney and Charlene, her brother Bryan (Brenda, Krystal, Joshua), “baby“ brother David (Jami, Delaney, Jennifer, Kelsey) and her little sister Donna (Mike, Mathew, Rhianna, Madison). A simple notice in a newspaper cannot possibly describe what Sheryl was all about but we will try. She brought sunshine into every room she entered and was eager to take on new challenges or help out those in need. With that in mind, Sheryl went back to school as an adult completing her degree in nursing. Upon graduation in 2001 she got a job at the Sudbury General Hospital where she carried out her nursing duties with the same caring and dedicated enthusiasm that she had throughout her life. Sheryl believed in setting goals in life so it was no surprise to anyone that she had a “list of things to do before you die.“ One of those things was owning a Harley-Davidson motorcycle so she could cruise the roadways while “lookin' good“. Her favourite rock band was Aerosmith and Sheryl was lucky enough to have Steve Tyler sing directly to her in the front row of a concert - “yeah you go girl!“ Sheryl was unique in all that she did and said and her “Sherylisms“ spoke volumes. Sheryl's greatest love were her “girls“ and she shared in their lives and accomplishments providing guidance and unconditional love. She also loved ballroom dancing, camping and sitting bundled up on her deck in the middle of winter enjoying her morning coffee. Mostly though Sheryl loved to laugh and her laughter was contagious. She would laugh so hard that sometimes she couldn't finish what she was saying but it didn't matter because by then everyone had joined in with her. Sheryl had a “super star dance“ that she would break out every time she won on “roll up the rim“. “Yes it's just coffee, “ - she would say - “But I won I won!“ Sheryl was a free spirit full of compassion and patience who embraced all that life offered. Her quiet confidence and passion for new experiences enriched all of our lives. Quite simply she was an amazing woman. The family would like to thank Dr. Knight, Dr. Sami, Dr. Pranam and Dr. Smith of the Sudbury Regional Hospital. Lisa Zeman, Hope Marchbank and Kerry Jones. The many nurses who gave unprecedented care and the people, too numerous to mention, who had nightly sleep overs with mom in her hospital room. Funeral services will take place Thursday, March 20, 2008 at the CO-OPERATIVE FUNERAL HOME in Sudbury. Visitation from 10 a.m. - 12 p.m., funeral services at 2 p.m. with a gathering to follow. Beloved husband of Aline (Robineau) Glaude predeceased 1989. MCINTYRE, LUWELLA - The death of Luwella McIntyre, wife of the late Harold J. McIntyre occurred on Friday, March 21, 2008 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born 1921 in Sault St. Marie, Ontario, she was the daughter of the late Andrew and Loretta (Gagnon) Prisque. Luwella was a member of the Clean Air Coalition and previously active with the NDP Party. She was a dedicated mother and grandmother. Her greatest joy was spending time with her loving family. She is survived by her sons, John McIntyre (Denise) of Miramichi City and Chris McIntyre (Kathryn) of Quispamsis; grandchildren, James McIntyre, Melessa McIntyre, Michael McIntyre and Gregory McIntyre; nephews, Andrew Burgess (Esther), Phillip Burgess (Susan), Fraser Livingstone (Randy) and Byron Livingstone (Kathy). BAZZO, Anna Marie (Annie) - Anna Marie (Annie) Bazzo passed away peacefully at Tendercare Nursing Home on Saturday, March 22, 2008 in her 99th year. Daughter of the late Edward and Mary Cook.
