Grandmother to Jennifer MacGillivray (husband Brian) Naughton, Ontario Chris Furino (wife Kierra) Temiskaming Shores, Ontario, Jamie Cadger (fiancé Brian Lapalme), Burlington, Kyle Cadger of North Bay, Ontario. A great grandmother to Max and Sam MacGillivray, Kenna Furino and Logan Lapalme. Alice was a gentle, quiet generous lady who was very independent with a firm belief in God. CLARKE, Joseph Anthony - Surrounded by his loving family, on Tuesday, March 11, 2008, at Toronto General Hospital, in his 81st year. Beloved husband of Dorothy (nee Guerin) and dear younger brother of Bernice (Hubert Bibby). Deeply treasured father of Catherine Clarke, Gregory (Marie) and Marie (Charles Davies). To grandchildren Clare Beatty and Janine, Nicole and Neil Clarke, he was their very special Papa. Always generous, he happily assumed that same role with step-grandchildren, Evan (Elsa) and Beth Davies. Thirty-five-year employee of Bell Canada. Outdoorsman, musician, active church and community member, he loved to laugh and joke, and gave joy to his extended family and many friends. He enjoyed life, and taught the rest of us to do the same. Mary Christine Harrison (née Symons) December 09, 1922 - March 13, 2008 With quiet dignity, Mary Harrison passed away at the Brantford General Hospital on March 13, 2008, at the age of 85. Mary was predeceased by her loving husband Bill on March 18, 1986, infant daughter MaryAnne and her brothers Joe and Fred. Mary will be sadly missed and always remembered by her children Eileen (Ed), Linda (Ron), Jo-Ann (Mark), Mike (Leanne), Patricia (Rob), and Kathleen (Ollie), as well as ten grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, her sister Patricia in Australia, her many nieces and nephews in Hamilton, England, Australia and Wales, and especially her lifelong friends Pat and Ev and all their families. Mary was born in County Cork, Ireland on December 9, 1922 to Molly and Edwin Symons. The family later moved to London, England. During WWII, Mary served her country by making munitions. She met Bill (a Canadian Paratrooper) and came to Canada as a War Bride in 1946. She and Bill raised their family in Hamilton's Northend. Mary always provided a warm and loving home for her children, never putting her needs and wants ahead of her family. Mary will always be remembered by those that loved her for her amazing storytelling, her great sense of humour and for always making everyone feel at home. CAVANAGH, Erna November 10, 1947 - March 12, 2008 Erna Jeanne Cavanagh was born November 10, 1947 in Stratford, Ontario. After a valiant battle with lung disease, she passed away at the Oilfields Hospital in Black Diamond, Alberta on March 12, 2008. Erna left home at an early age and worked for General Electric in Peterborough prior to moving to Calgary in 1981. Erna was predeceased by her son Chris in 1999. Erna is survived by her brothers, David (Lynn) and Grant (Joan), sister Catherine and her mother Effie Ellis, special friends Rob and Sandy Heister and a number of nieces and nephews. Edythe Hicks Edythe Mae Hicks, 79, of Riverview and formerly Havelock passed away Wednesday March 12th, 2008 at the Moncton Hospital. Born in Cornhill, she was a daughter of the late Robert and Edith (Cameron) Moore. A homemaker, in her early working years she worked at the T. Eaton Company and the Bank of Nova Scotia. Edyth attended the Havelock Baptist Church and was a past member of the Gloria Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star. A devoted wife, mother and grandmother she will be sadly missed by her husband of nearly 53 years Arthur; daughters, Pamela Whispell-MacPhee (Richard) of Fort Saskatchewan, A.B., Deborah Hicks (Shane) of Hillsborough; cherished granddaughters, Andrea Whispell (Jamie) of Riverview, Allison Whispell (Dan) of Moncton; sisters, Winnifred Taylor and Mary Steeves (Robert) of Petitcodiac; brother, Robert Moore (Margaret) of Riverview and several nieces and nephews. SQUIRES, JEAN RUBY Jean R. (Mercer) Squires of Fredericton and formerly of Nackawic, wife of the late Thomas R. Squires, passed away at Pine Grove Nursing Home on March 11, 2008. Born at Woodstock, NB in 1919, she was a daughter of the late Harwood and Alma (Lockhard) Mercer. Jean is survived by three daughters, Pam Spetz (Garf), Chamcook, NB, Teri Squires, Seattle, Washington, US and Lynn Pratt (Rick), Keswick Ridge, NB; one granddaughter, Alexis Hill (Olivier), Ottawa, ON; one grandson, Tapper Deans, Ottawa, ON; one great granddaughter, Nora Hill, Ottawa, ON; one sister, Delores (Doe) Stewart (Bud), Woodstock, NB; one niece and three nephews. In addition to her parents, Jean was predeceased by her husband in 1988; her beloved son, Rick Squires in 1980; a sister, Betty Johnston in 1994 and a niece, Janet Harrison in 2006. The family resided in Woodstock, NB until 1954 when Tom's work took them to Campbellton. This was home until 1968 when the picturesque town of Nackawic beckoned them back to the scenic St. John River. Jean's favorite work was at the Hotel Dieu Hospital in Campbellton, caring for the new born babies. She and Tom operated a Dairy Bar and a Craft Store. Crafts were always an important part of her life and she had a talent to create a high quality product. Jean will be truly missed by her family and friends. Her wishes were for a private family burial at Woodstock Rural Cemetery. She requested no visitation or funeral service. KIDNEY, MURRAY ERVINE Murray Kidney was born in Fredericton New Brunswick. He grew up in downtown Fredericton, in 'Rabbit Town'. He moved to Marysville after marrying my mother Laura in 1970. As a young man he worked at Hartt Shoe Factory, and then at the Daily Gleaner for over 30 years. He was an active member of the Marysville United Church and an Odd Fellows Lodge member. He was predeceased by his mother Annie Grace (Campbell) Kinney and father Thomas Kidney; and his wife Laura (Flinn) Kidney. He is survived by his daughter Jane Kidney-Hermelin and son in law Peter Hermelin; two grand children Gracie Mae and Erik Peter Murray. CARMICHAEL, Kenneth Duncan Hudspith 1910 - 2008 It is with great sorrow that the family announces his death on Tuesday, March 11, 2008 at the Lakeshore General Hospital in Pointe Claire, Que. Dearly beloved husband of fifty-one years of the late Anne Currie Macdonald Carmichael, cherished father of Moira Anne Hayes (Stephen) of Quebec City and Kenneth Macdonald Carmichael (Lynn) of Ottawa. Dearly loved grandfather of Catherine Anne Hayes Jackson (Rod) and Jonathan Andrew Hayes (Jane) and the proud great-grandfather of Charlotte Abbie Hayes. His devotion to family included his nephews and nieces, Rosemary, David, Lawrie and Margaret and their families. He was a special friend of Marion de Terry who brought joy to his life. Ordained in 1936 as an Elder of the Presbyterian Church in Canada, he held this office for over sixty years in devotion to his church and God. A fifty year employee of Canadian Pacific Railway, he retired in 1975 as Manager - Freight Rates, Atlantic Region, a career that took him from Montreal to Moose Jaw, Vernon and Nelson , B.C., Ottawa, returning to Montreal in 1953 and in whose service he was a proud and devoted employee. A service in celebration of his full and active life will be held at the Presbyterian Church of St. Columba-By-The-Lake, 11 Rodney Avenue, in Valois (Pointe Claire), Quebec on Monday, March 17, 2008 at 2 p.m. Visitation will take place at the church one hour prior to the service with a reception to follow at the church. Flowers are gratefully declined. Donations may be made in his memory to the Presbyterian Church of St. Columba-By-The-Lake, 11 Rodney Avenue, Pointe Claire, Que. H9R 4L8 or the charity of your choice. BANN, Marie McColl Marie Bann passed away peacefully at Prince of Wales Manor on Thursday, March 13, 2008, in her 78th year, after a tiring battle with cancer. A Newry girl from Northern Ireland, Marie is predeceased by her parents William and Bessie (nee McColl), and her brothers Allan, John, Teddy and Jim. She leaves behind two brothers in Northern Ireland, Billy and Archie, and her loving sister, Betty MacDonald of Ottawa. A favourite Auntie, she will be deeply missed by many nieces and nephews in Ottawa and Toronto, and back home in the 'old country'. Many thanks to the staff of Prince of Wales Manor for their kindness and compassion. No visitation or services are planned at this time; a celebration of Marie's life will be held by the family at a later date. SUOKKO, Elma Elizabeth 2008-03-14 1916 ~ 2008 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Elma Elizabeth Suokko. She left us peacefully after a short illness on Monday, March 10th, 2008 at the age of 91. Elma was born October 18,1916 in Isokyro, Finland. Elma married Veikko Suokko and they moved to Canada in 1951 to start their new life together. They worked in the Bush Camps until 1963. Elma enjoyed fishing, camping and blueberry picking. She was a member of Hilldale Lutheran Church where she helped in many Church activities and gave the Church everything she could. Elma loved gatherings with family and friends. She enjoyed playing a special marble game with whoever was up for the challenge. She is survived by her brother-in-law and sister in-law Annikki and Paavo Suokko, her nieces Miraja Makiranta and Pirkko Pajala and their families all of Finland. She was predeceased by her husband Veikko (May 1994), her son Matti and her brother Jaakko. A special thank you to Paavo & Annikki Suokko for the years of care they gave Elma. We would also like to thank the staff of St. Joseph’s Heritage-Bethammi Nursing Home, Pastor Jari Lahtinen and the many people who took the time to visit Elma during her stay there. Funeral Services for the late Mrs. Elma Suokko will be held on Thursday, March 20th, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. in Hilldale Lutheran Church with Pastor Jari Lahtinen leading the Service. Reception to follow in the Parish Hall. Interment to be held in Riverside Cemetery following the reception.
