ALAIN, J.J. EDGAR The passing of Jean Jacques Edgar Alain occurred at Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital, on Wednesday, March11th, 2008. He was 85. Born in Bathurst, NB, he was the son of the late Aurele and Regina (Leger) Alain. He was a dentist by profession; member of the Royal Canadian Legion, a World War Two Veteran, and an avid radio controlled plane enthusiast. Survived by his children Lise of Quebec, Bernadette of Truro, Jacqueline (Bruce MacIntosh) of Lincoln, Paul of Fredericton and Aurele (Sheila) of Ottawa; grandchildren Amy and Adam Elliott, Philippe-Andre Lafrance, Kinnon and Shea MacIntosh, Ashley and Shannon Alain; one sister Jacqueline Neville; and a brother Edmond Alain; and several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his wife Marthe Boudreau, daughter Jocelyne Alain; grandson Matthew Alain; brothers Yvon and Maurice Alain; sister Paulette Fougere. Resting at Bishop's Funeral Home, 540 Woodstock Road, on Thursday March 13th from 7-9 PM. The funeral service will be held from Ste-Anne-des-Pays-Bas on Friday March 14th at 11:00 AM with Father Donald Savoie officiating. Interment will be held in Bathurst at a later date. Lois Sharp Passed away on / Décédé(e) le March 6, 2008 We regret to announce the death of Lois Sharp on March 6th at Sensenbrenner Hospital at the age of 78 years. She was a devoted volunteer to the Kapuskasing Figure Skating Club. She loved working and spending time at the cabin with her family and with her four-legged "grandchildren". She enjoyed the outdoors and was always a happy, spirited person who had a wonderful outlook on life. She was predeceased by her husband, Donald Sharp. She is survived by her daughter: Cindy Sharp friend of Robert Hemenway of Kapuskasing, her son, Wayne Sharp of Moonbeam and by her brother Denzil Gamble of Westbourne, Manitoba. Lois Sharp will be resting at the Guenette Funeral Home on Tuesday, March 11th beginning at 9:00 a.m.. A memorial service will follow in the Funeral Home Chapel at 11:00 a.m. with Father Fernand Villeneuve officiating. Jeannine Lessard of Kapuskasing, died at Sensenbrenner Hospital on March 8, 2008. Mrs. Lessard was born on Dec. 6, 1931 in Guérin, Quebec. She was the manager for Carleton Cards. Mrs. Lessard is survived by her husband Antoine; sons Yves (Lucie) of Moonbeam and Alain (Paula) of Kapuskasing; daughters Manon Lessard of Kap, Lyette Lessard of Thunder Bay and Josée (Michel) Léonard of Louisville, Kentucky; sisters Yollande Durocher of Rouyn-Noranda and Leonia Pronovost of Montreal; grandchildren Bruno, Mathieu, Rémi, Claude, Peter, Nancy, Mélanie, Erin and Brian and great grandchildren Eden and Yanik. She was predeceased by five sisters and three brothers. Father Fernand Villeneuve will officiate the funeral service March 12 at 2:30 p.m. at Immaculée Conception Church. Boyd, Adah (Pat) 1921-2008 It is with deep sorrow the family announces the death of Adah (Pat) Boyd, longtime resident of Timmins, Ontario who passed away peacefully on Tuesday March 4, 2008 with her daughters at her side at the Kitchener-Waterloo Grand River Hospital, Kitchener, Ontario. Predeceased by her loving husband George Hubert Boyd in 1985. Also predeceased by her friend and companion Ross Wilson. STABLES, Roy 1955-2008 The family announces with great sorrow the death of Roy Wilfred William Stables, surrounded by his family and friends at the Timmins and District Hospital on March 7, 2008. Roy was the much loved son of Stefanie and the late Roy Stables of Iroquois Falls. Loving brother of Stephanie (Murray) Podrucky and Debra (Roger) Lambert, all of Iroquois Falls. BALDERSTON, Edna May (nee Albon) August 5, 1924 - March 11, 2008 Edna Balderston, beloved wife of the late Bertram Donald Balderston of Calgary, passed away on Tuesday, March 11, 2008 at the age of 83 years. It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and dearest friend, Edna May Balderston. Edna was born in Lancaster, England where she met her husband of forty-one years, Bert, while he was serving overseas in WWII. She immigrated to Canada as a war bride in 1947. She bravely travelled across Canada to begin her new life with Bert and his family in Banff, AB. During their lives together, Edna and Bert lived in Banff, Saskatoon, and Nelson and finally moved to Calgary, residing on the North Hill. Until his death in 1986, Edna and Bert travelled extensively in the United States, Hawaii and overseas, enjoying life to the fullest. Through curling, golf and their travels they forged many friendships that lasted until the end. Later in life, Edna found comfort and friendship with her partner of many years, Kenneth Brown who predeceased her in October of 2006. Edna and Ken had many happy adventures together. Edna had been trained as a seamstress in her early years and loved to sew for her grandchildren whom she loved dearly, Carmen Grusie (Cam), Danni Martyn (Ryan), Michelle Grusie (Shane), David Balderston (Pam), and Darli McAulay (David) and her beloved ten great-grandchildren, Brayden, Bryson, Maddie, Joey, Jamie, Cody, Jordan, Sawyer, Cooper and Keetly. Edna found great joy in the company of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by her many friends and relatives both in Canada and in England but will be especially missed by her children, Michael Donald Balderston (Kathy) of Chestermere, Linda Mary Grusie (Colin) of Cochrane and Wesley Grant Balderston of Trail, BC. ERICKSON, Vivian 2008-03-14 Mrs. Vivian Laura Erickson (nee Poulin), age 83 years passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 13, 2008 with her angels at her side. Vivian was born in Port Arthur on January 9, 1925. Vivian worked at the Canadian Car during WW11. She married Roger on June 12, 1943, and together, shared 64 years of marriage. She loved her role as a mother, homemaker, mentor and friend. Vivian enjoyed her sewing and knitting, making all sorts of outfits for her children and grandchildren. She loved her flower garden and was very proud of her home which would always pass the white glove test. Vivian could always be seen in the stands cheering on her grandsons playing baseball and soccer, and her great-grandsons during their hockey games. Her home was a welcoming haven to all the neighbourhood kids who always came knocking on her door whether it be for a treat or getting a tooth pulled. Vivian will be sadly missed by her children: Janis (Doug) Whatley, Barbara Bruce, Roger (Helen) Erickson, Judy (Ken) Dahl, and Roland (Mira) Erickson; grandchildren: Brett (Caroline), Ryan (Carolyn), and Kim Whatley; Erick (Tammy) and Angela (Jamie) Bruce; Collin and Kris (Hien) Erickson; Kerri (Dennis) Borgo; Kaj (Jessica), Scott (Tuija) and Daniel Erickson; great-grandchildren: Jonathan, Matthew, Faith, Samuel, William, Dalton, Makenna and Savannah; sisters: Evelyn, Mae, Verna, and Barbara; brother Tim; brother-in-law Raymond; niece Lois and family. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive. She was predeceased by her husband Roger in October, 2007; parents Timothy and Laura Poulin; brothers: Albert, Alec, Donald, Kenneth, Charles, and Norman; sisters: Audrey and Doris; sisters-in-law: Nancy, Ingrid and Lily-Mae; son-in-law Trevor Bruce; and daughter-in-law Janet Erickson. Funeral Services for the late Vivian Erickson will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 18, 2008 in the Chapel of Harbourview Funeral Centre, 499 North Cumberland Street, officiated by Rev. MATTHEWS, James David (Jim) - Jim passed away on February 15, 2008, at Henley House, at the age of 89 of pneumonia. A loving father and husband, he is remembered with love and gratitude by sons Vaughan and Brett, and by daughters- in-law Jessica and Margaret. He will be lovingly remembered by his surviving sister Joyce and husband Ted (UK), sister-in-law Marion (UK), by his nieces and nephews (Jill, Penny, Simon, Deborah and Catherine, all of the UK) and by many friends in Canada and the UK. A special 'thank you' to Marjorie Boswell, sister of Jim's recently deceased wife Lynne, and Marjorie's children Kerry and Adaire, for their care and support at this time. Jim, a native of England who has lived in St. Catharines since 1965, will also be remembered by many in the city for the passion and skill he brought to teaching fine arts at Governor Simcoe and Merritton secondary schools. He will be remembered with appreciation at the St. Catharines Camera Club, where he served as President and newsletter editor, and at the Unitarian Congregation of Niagara in St. Catharines, where he was an active and enthusiastic member and volunteer. Jim will be cremated in a private ceremony and his ashes placed beside those of his beloved wife Lynne Kathleen Matthews at the St. Georges Anglican Church columbarium. The family will host a celebration of Jim's life at the Unitarian Congregation of Niagara (223 Church Street, St Catharines, ON, L2R3E8) at 2 p.m. on Sunday March 16th. NERBAS, Phyllis Margaret June 24, 1926 - March 12, 2008 It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Phyllis Margaret Nerbas, loving wife, mother, grandma and sister on Wednesday, March 12 at the age of 81. Phyllis was born and raised in Churchbridge, Saskatchewan. Her entire life was anchored in a solid faith through her baptism, confirmation, marriage, and a life devoted to the church. She had a huge capacity to love and was always quietly giving, helping, and lending a hand to ease one's burden or celebrate another's joy. Phyllis married her loving husband Erwin on June 30, 1950 and was blessed with four children - Marcia (Peter Massier), Leslie (Peter Crisfield), Tim (MaryAnn Sheridan), and Julie; and six grandchildren whom she loved so dearly - John and Geoffrey Crisfield, Stephan Massier, Elizabeth, Emily, and Allison Nerbas. Surviving her is her brother Henry and his wife Myrna, and many nieces, nephews, and their families. She was predeceased by her parents, August and Albertina Jenson, and her sister Imogene (2005). CARTY, GERALD DOUGLAS - The passing of Gerald Douglas Carty of 242 Highland Avenue, Fredericton, occurred at his home on March 12, 2008. Gerald was born in Saint John, New Brunswick, on October 1, 1925 to parents Albert and Fannie (Tyler) Carty. He is survived by his wife, June (Howe) Carty and their children, John (Alain Paulin), David (Meredith Westlake), Wendy (Bill Cook) and Brian (Eloise Wetmore); grandchildren, Solomon, Jacob, Rebecca and their mother, Valerie Creaghan, Asha, Geoffrey and Dylan, as well as Jessica (Mark Derrah), Rachel, Franklin, and their father, Blair Barrett, Alexander and Ian. He is also survived by his brothers, Donald Carty (Doris) and Robert Carty; sister-in-law, Mulvina Carty of New Jersey. Besides his parents, Gerry was predeceased by his brothers, Adolphus, Clyde, Malcolm and William. Gerald joined the Royal Canadian Air Force at age 18, and had the distinction of being one of the youngest commissioned officers in the RCAF (Flight Lieutenant) at age 19. During WWII Gerald flew over 35 missions in Wellington and Lancaster bombers. He was wounded in action and during his recovery in Watford, England, he studied to become an electronics technician. His wartime service in the RCAF earned him the Defense Medal, the War Medal (Victory Medal), and The Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp. Following his overseas service, Gerry received the first ever electronic technician certification issued in New Brunswick. He was co-owner of the Electronics Centre and the All and Sundry News Centre / Electrohome dealerships for many years in downtown Fredericton. He partnered in the establishment of Central Community Television; the first cable company in Fredericton, which at the time was credited with being the largest system of its kind east of Montreal, later to become Fundy Cable. As a result of his electronic expertise, he was able to develop a variety of improvised technical innovations for the Fredericton Police Force, which ultimately led to many fond memories and special friendships with local members. Gerry's interest in aviation continued within the Fredericton community through his involvement as an instructor and C.O. of the Fredericton No. 333 Air Cadet Squadron, his role as a founding member and president of the Fredericton Flying Club, flying in charity fund raising events, and in the establishment of Air Acadia, a local charter flight service with a small fleet of aircraft. Gerry was an active member of the congregation and choir of St Mary's Anglican Church and for the last 30 years of Christ Church Cathedral. Over his lifetime, he was a member of the YMCA where he was a gymnastics instructor, the RCAF Association 252 (Lord Beaverbrook) Wing, the Elks Club, the Fredericton Lions Club, the Garrison Club, and the Canadian Legion Branch Number 4. His hobbies included playing music as a very accomplished saxophone player, homebuilt aircraft, anything electronic, and beekeeping. He loved to garden and play cribbage, and he always enjoyed the challenge of figuring out new ways to do things. His gifts and his friends were many, and we will miss him. Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive, Fredericton on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. Members of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 4, Fredericton are asked to assemble at the funeral home for a Legion Tribute Service on Friday at 7 pm. PAULLEY, Sarah Jane (nee Peaire) - Passed away suddenly at St. Mary's Hospital after complications from childbirth on Tuesday March 11th, 2008 at the age of 29. She has now joined her brother Jason in Heaven. Beloved wife and best friend of Jason and adored mommy of Grace (2 years) and Lucy (newborn). Cherished daughter of Rodger and Jane Peaire of Guelph. Loving daughter-in-law of Jim and Helen Paulley of Sarnia. Sister-in-law of Leeann Paulley (Randy) of Fort St. John, B.C., Mike Paulley of Corunna, and Dawn Chesney (Dexter) of Sarnia. Niece of Ann (Bruce) Cowan, and David (Fiona) Roberts. She will be sadly missed by her cousins Jennifer and Ashley, her grandparents, and her many other relatives and friends. Sarah was a source of love through her membership at Calvary Memorial United Church. She lived life to the fullest whether is was at home or her work at the Festival in Stratford or the Delta in Kitchener. Sarah's family will receive relatives and friends at the HENRY WALSER FUNERAL HOME, 507 Frederick St., Kitchener, 519-749-8467 on Saturday from 7 - 9 p.m. and Sunday from 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 p.m. Sarah's funeral service will take place at Calvary Memorial United Church (Park and Glasgow Sts. Kitchener) on Monday, March 17, 2008 at 2 p.m. Sarah's interment will take place on Tuesday, March 18, 2008 at 9:30 a.m. in Woodlawn Cemetery, Guelph. WARD, Patricia (nee Edwards) 1924- 2008 - Patricia passed away peacefully on March 9 after a lengthy illness. She was the best friend of her husband Jim, and was dearly loved by him and our sons Michael (Elizabeth), David (Ruth), Richard (Susan), and daughter Kate. She raised our children to be happy and successful and we remember how she did it with a mix of firmness and love. She loved and was loved by her nine grandchildren and now we say goodbye to one who led a life well lived. With grateful thanks to the many friends who offered condolences and sympathy, and to the Doctors and Staff of the Red Deer Regional Hospital.
