CHAMBERLAND, Emeria P. - In loving memory of Emeria P. Chamberland (nee Jacques), 78 years, who passed away Monday morning, March 10th, 2008 at the Extendicare York, Sudbury. Loving wife of Maurice Chamberland predeceased 1994. Beloved mother of Roger (wife Suzanne) of Coniston, Gilles predeceased 1996, Francoise (husband Guy Lafrance), and Richard both of Sudbury, Robert predeceased 2004, Carole (husband Jeff McColeman) of Hanmer and Diane (husband Steve Laurin) of Val Caron. Will be sadly missed by her grandchildren; Eric, Michel, Angele, Sylvie, Kim, Jennifer, Joel and by her great grandchildren; Hailey, Braedan, Lindsey, Ethan, Cameron, Zachary, Samuel and Zoe. Daughter of Godias and Angelina (nee Drouin) Jacques both predeceased. Dear sister of Cecile Daignault of Montreal and Eudor and Florian both predeceased. Emeria was born and raised in Ste-Germaine-de-Dorchester, Quebec, where she married Maurice Chamberland in 1949. Together they made their way to Sudbury to work and raise their family. A resident of King St. for many years, she was a member of St. Jean-de- Brebeuf Church. Emeria devoted herself to her family. She was especially proud of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She leaves a rich legacy of love, faith and devotion and will be sadly missed and never forgotten. Funeral prayers in the R.J. MACK, Carolyn Frances - Carolyn Mack (nee Helwig) of Wiarton (formerly of Southampton) died peacefully at the Saugeen Memorial Hospital in Southampton, on Sunday, March 9, 2008, at the age of 61 years. She will be sorrowfully missed by her husband Robert E. (Bob) Mack. Carolyn is survived by her sister Margaret (Peg) MacLeod of Kandos, New South Wales, Australia, Winston (Bud) Helwig and his wife Karen of Elmira, John and his wife Kathryn of Southampton, and Guy Helwig and his partner Tracey Bookham-Smith of Southampton. She is also survived by her nieces Lisa MacLeod and Kristen Fitzgerald in Australia; Cindy, Sherri, Kara and Kristy Helwig in Ontario; and nephew Ian MacLeod in Botswana. She will also be missed by her eight great nieces and nephews. Carolyn was highly regarded for her professionalism and leadership throughout her career as a registered nurse and social worker and was most admired for her personal devotion and care for her patients. She is remembered for the wisdom, humour and generous love she brought to every interaction. Friends may visit at the W. PAPP James Henry Papp passed away suddenly at the Woolcott Wing of Welland Hospital on Sunday, March 9, 2008 at the age of 85. Beloved husband of Betty (nee Zselenak) for 58 years. Loving father of Nancy of Welland. Dear brother-in-law of Margaret Miskolczi and her husband Albert and Betty Papp. He is survived by nephews, nieces and cousins. Predeceased by his parents Joseph and Mary Papp, brother William Papp, sister Magda Papp and nephew Robert Papp. James worked for 40 years at Wabasso retiring in 1964 and will be remembered as a very talented man in many respects. MAXNER (DeVenney), Patricia Margaret - 78, Windsor, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 9, 2008, at home, with her family by her side after a courageous journey with ALS. First and foremost a mother and a grandmother, Pat was always caring for others, even in the midst of her own illness. She will be remembered by family and friends for her never-ending supply of homemade cookies, her love of a Saturday night church supper, her nimble dancing feet and her always dazzling jewels. She was dearly loved and will be greatly missed. ROCKWOOD, Pastor Perry F. - Halifax, loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, went to be with the Lord on March 7, 2008, in the VG Site, QEII, following a brief illness. Born on March 23, 1917, in New Glasgow, to Mark and Violet (Baker) Rockwood, he was born again to newness of life at 19 years of age. He truly loved his Lord and Saviour whom he served faithfully and joyously, and his last words were of Him. As a beloved radio pastor and pastor of Missionary Bible Church, his greatest desire was to bring lost souls to a saving knowledge of the Saviour and to encourage believers in the faith. Over the past 60 years, the Lord has grown the faith ministry of The Peoples Gospel Hour in order to enable the Gospel to be sent around the world by means of radio and literature and this work will continue, by God's grace, as Pastor Rockwood had planned. He was predeceased by his wife, Ena (Coulstan); daughter, Joan; his parents; brother, Emmerson, and sisters, Irene, June and Love. Rejoicing that he is with the Lord are his wife, Julia (Sharp); daughter, Judith (Harry) Thompson; sons, Perry (Nancy) Rockwood and Paul (Sue) Browning; grandchildren, Daniel, Matthew, Danny, Mark, Patricia, Jessica, Sandy, Bill, Jackson and Siobhan; great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews; brother, William Rockwood; mother-in-law, Doris Sharp, and brothers and sisters-in-law. C.S.V. 1938 - 2008 Le frère Rémi Tourangeau, clerc de Saint-Viateur, est décédé au Centre Champagneur de Joliette, le 8 mars 2008, à l'âge de 69 ans, dans sa 51e année de profession religieuse. Né à Sainte-Anne-du-Lac (diocèse de Mont-Laurier), le 8 mai 1938, le frère Tourangeau a prononcé ses premiers voeux chez les Clercs de Saint-Viateur, le 15 août 1957. Le frère Tourangeau a consacré une bonne partie de ses premières années dans la communauté à parfaire sa formation académique obtenant un baccalauréat en Pédagogie de l'Université de Montréal (1962), un baccalauréat ès Arts de l'Université d'Ottawa (1964), une licence ès Lettres modernes de l'Université Laval (1968) et un Doctorat ès Lettres de l'Université de Rennes (1970). De 1972 à 2001, il a fait partie du corps professoral de l'Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières. Tout en enseignant, il s'est intéressé à l'histoire du théâtre au Québec. Sous sa direction, une équipe a collaboré à un projet de recherche et, en 2007, les Presses de l'Université Laval ont publié les résultats de ce travail dans un impressionnant ouvrage de plus de 850 pages: Dictonnaire des jeux scéniques du Québec au XXe siècle, sous la direction de Rémi Tourangeau. En 2007, la maladie l'a obligé à se retirer au Centre Champagneur où il vient de décéder. Murray A. Godfrey 1948 - 2008 Mr. Murray Alden Godfrey, husband of Carolyn Godfrey, of Lawrence Street, Lutes Mountain, passed away at his residence, on Sunday afternoon, March 9, 2008, at the age of 60. Born in Chatham, on March 7, 1948, he was the son of the late John A. and Margaret (Cameron) Godfrey. He was retired Director of the Greater Moncton Planning District Commission. He was a member of St. Stephen's United Church, Black River Bridge. Murray was an accomplished oil painter as well as a skilled woodworker and craftsman. Many examples of Murray's works of art are displayed in homes, churches and business throughout New Brunswick and beyond. Following the sad loss of their mother, Margaret, at a young age, both Murray and his brother, Hugh were brought up in the Village of Loggieville by their uncle and aunt, Charlie and Hallie Godfrey, who provided a home and family for them until they made their own way in life when they were older. Something they would always cherish and be grateful for. He is survived by his wife, the former, Carolyn Melanson; three sons, Jason Godfrey (Angela) and Tyler Godfrey (Sylvie), David Hollis (Nina) all of Moncton; one daughter, Cindy Black (Keith), of Oxford, N.S.; brother, Hugh Godfrey, of Black River Bridge; one half sister, Maxine Stoker (Fred), of Bracebridge, Ont.; two half brothers, Kenneth MacDonald (Exelda), of Miramichi and Cameron MacDonald (Nan), of Black River Bridge; seven grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews. By request, there will be no visitation at the funeral home. A memorial service to celebrate Murray's life will be held from St. Stephen's United Church, Black River Bridge, on Friday, March 14, 2008, at 2 pm, conducted by Rev. David Cleveland. ROCHE, Hebert George “Bert“ - of Valleyview Home, St. Thomas, passed away on Tuesday March 4, 2008, at his late residence, in his 85th year. Beloved husband of Norma (Primeau) Roche and dearly loved father of Heather Robertson (husband late Bruce) of Cornwall, D. Paul and his wife Donna of Grimsby, Jeff Roche of Brampton and Cathy and her husband John VanderWallen of St. Thomas. Predeceased by an infant daughter Wendy and by a number of brothers and sisters. Sadly missed by a number of grandchildren, great grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Bert was born in Ottawa on November 1st, 1923, the son of the late Walter Joseph and Ethel (Willans) Roche. He has lived in St. Thomas since 1970 and was retired teacher from Fanshawe College where he taught machine shop. Bert served during W.W.II and was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion in Cornwall and then St. Thomas and a life member of the Knights of Columbus. The funeral service was held from WILLIAMS FUNERAL HOME, 45 Elgin St., St. Thomas to Holy Angels' Church where Mass of the Christian Burial was celebrated on Friday morning (March 7th). SCHNEIDER, Norah Joan - Former Eganville resident Norah Joan Schneider, 74, died peacefully on Wednesday, March 5, 2008 at Extendicare West End Villa in Ottawa. Her remains will be buried in Bowerman's Cemetery near Wellington, Ont. A memorial and burial service will be held in Prince Edward County in July. Norah was born on September 2, 1933 in Toronto, Ont. to Clifton and Jean (Wagner) Greer. Living in Lorne Park, Ont., Norah and her four sisters spent long summers on the Severn River exploring nature and developing outdoor skills. Her swimming prowess led to membership on the Toronto Swim Club women's team. At an early age, her father and uncles introduced her to impressionist style landscape painting and she refined her skills at the Ontario Art College, Queen's University, and the Schneider School of Fine Arts. Norah also taught art at Loyalist College and Haliburton School of the Arts. Norah was married in 1953 to William (Bill) Hiscock, resided in Tweed, Ont., and later on a nearby farm. While raising 5 children and tending to the chores, she pursued her passion for painting, drawing and sculpting. In 1969, Norah and her new husband, Peter Holley-Hime, moved to Istanbul, Turkey. In 1970, they returned to Bowerman's Church near Wellington, Ont. where twin girls were born. Later the church became Grey Stone Gallery and in the early 1990s, she moved to Eganville. Norah was a devoted mother who valued her children as her true life's work. She is lovingly remembered by her: step-mother Olga Greer; husbands Bill Hiscock, Peter Holley-Hime and Jorg Schneider; 6 children, Ted (Nancy) Hiscock, Julie (Robert) Young, John Hiscock, Steve Hiscock, Roan Holley-Hime, Rue (Tim Cooper) Holley-Hime; sister Jolyn Grieve; 12 grandchildren, 3 great- grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews; and, special friends Lesley Forrester and Peggy and Bill Dick. Sol Simon Reisman O.C., LL.D. Died in his sleep March 9, 2008 in his 89th year. Beloved husband for 65 years of Constance Carin. Dear father of John Joseph (Brenda Runge), Anna Lisa (Peter Kalman), Harriet Frances (Douglas Barrett) and daughter-in-law Gale Blank. Much loved grandfather of Will, Jane, and Molly Reisman; Edie-Jane and Stephen Kalman; Trish, Julia, Aaron and Kate Barrett. Predeceased by brother Mark Reisman (Rose); he is survived by his sisters Gertrude Shapiro and Helen Lutterman (Ernest) and their families. Born in Montreal June 19, 1919 to Kolman and Manya Reisman. Attended Baron Byng High School, McGill University (BA, MA). Served overseas as Regimental Officer in WW II RCA, 11th, 15th and 17th Field Artillery (Troop Commander) in Italy and Holland 1942-1946. Attended the London School of Economics 1945-46. Joined the Department of Finance 1946, Director of International Economic Relations Division; Canadian Delegation to Geneva Trade and Tariff Conference 1947; World Conference on Trade and Employment, Havana, 1947-1948; Economics and Social Council, UN, Geneva, 1952, New York, 1953; first and following sessions of GATT 1947-1954; Assistant Director of Research, Royal Commission on Canada's Economic Prospects 1955-1957; Assistant Deputy Minister, Department of Finance 1961-1964; Deputy Minister of Industry 1964-1968 during which time was chief architect of the Canada-US Auto Pact; Secretary of the Treasury Board 1968-1970; Deputy Minister of Finance 1970-1975; received Outstanding Public Service Award, Canada, 1974; Chief Royal Commissioner to investigate Canadian Auto Industry 1978; Chief Negotiator for Canada Aboriginal Land Claims for the Western Arctic, 1983; Ambassador (Trade) and Chief Negotiator Canada-US Free Trade Agreement 1985-1988. Honorary Doctorate, Carleton University, 1998; Honoured by the naming of the Simon Reisman Chair on Trade Policy, Carleton University, 2000. Avid salmon fisherman; was able to fish white water until July 2007; embraced reading and life-long learning; continuous observer and commentator of world current events; active participant in the Rideau Club Roundtable; always interested in people and their lives, and an unending curiosity about what made them tick; social and extroverted, a dry sense of humour right up to the time of his final CT scan; mentally sharp to the very end; unlike his reputation of being tough and hard-boiled, he was always ready to lend a hand; a most loving, inspirational, devoted, supportive, generous and loyal father and grandfather. McGRAW, MARIE HELEN - Marie Helen "Janie" McGraw, widow of the late J. Hilaire McGraw of Saint John passed away unexpectedly on Monday March 10th, 2008 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born 1923 in Prince Edward Island to the late Phillip and Julia Ann (Gallant) Poirier. Janie is survived by two sons, David McGraw of Saint John, Dale (Jo-Anne) McGraw of Quispamsis; daughter, Darlene Couture (John) of Quispamsis; two sisters, Stella Arsenault of Summerside, PEI and Antoinette Gallant of Fredericton; four grandsons, Joel, Alex, Bryan and Christopher; sisters and brothers-in-law; several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and husband, she was predeceased by six brothers and five sisters. Janie was a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church and RCL Branch #53. Devoted mother, grandmother and sister, she was an avid crib player and enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Resting at the Fundy Funeral Home 230 Westmorland Rd. Carl W. Wood PETITCODIAC, NB - Carl W. Wood, 68, of Petitcodiac, passed away Sunday, March 9, 2008 at the Moncton Hospital. Born in Hunter's Home, he was the son of the late Lloyd and Nada (Verrill) Wood. He was a truck driver, having worked most of his career at Burgess. He is survived by his wife, Brenda (Steeves) Wilson; daughters, Wendy Duncan (Lorris), Lisa Duncan (Bryan), Lorrie Wood (Dick Alward) all of Havelock; step daughter, Gayle O'Donnell (Scott) of Salisbury; sons, John, Stephen (June) both of Alberta, Peter (Yvette) of Havelock; step son, Terry Wilson of Petitcodiac; sisters, Winifred London of Minto, Julia Beech of Coles Island, Carol Killam (Stan) of Havelock; brothers, Stanley (Betty) of Canaan, Arnold (Nettie) of Chipman; 13 grandchildren, one great grandchild; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by son, Kevin; grandson, Jeremy; brother, Sherman. Marjorie H. Rogers 1923 - 2008 Marjorie H. Rogers, 85, of the Lefurgey Residence in Moncton and formerly of Hillsborough, NB; passed away at the Moncton Hospital on Monday, March 10th, 2008. Born in Lakeville, NB on March 8th, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Ada (Lockhart) Terris. Prior to her marriage to Robert, she was employed with Unemployment Insurance. Marjorie was an adherent of St. Johns United Church. A loving and caring mother and grandmother, she will be sadly missed by her daughters, Sandra Steeves and her husband James of Newmarket ON; and Judy LeBlanc (Kevin Carson) of Moncton; four grandchildren, Nathaniel, Aaron, Adam ( Brandie) and Andrea (Matt Belanger); one great- granddaughter Mia Belanger; also by several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Robert "Bob" H. Rogers; sister, Irene Humes; her half brother Frank and half sister Flossie Hopper. STINSON, Helen Helen passed away peacefully at home on Friday, March 7, 2008. She was born in Saskatchewan on April 21, 1936. She is survived by her husband Ross; daughter Betty Jean (Bob) Yoell; granddaughters Carla, Deziree Dion; grandson Melvin Dion; special son-in-law Calvin Dion; sister Kathy Harbridge of Cochrane, many nieces and nephews. Helen was predeceased by four sisters, four brothers and numerous brothers and sisters-in-law. Helen was a special person, she was always ready to help anyone in need, but she called a spade a spade. Helen was a true Christian lady and lived her life in joy and happiness until her hips gave out. Helen you are going to be missed by us all.
