HARPELL, Alfred Roy - 84, Port Bickerton, Guysborough Co., died Saturday, March 8, 2008, in St. Mary's Memorial Hospital, Sherbrooke. Born in Harpellville, he was a son of the late Howard Stanley and Emma Kate (Kaiser) Harpell. A loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather, Roy was a retired commercial fisherman and carpenter. A member and Deacon of Gospel Light Church, Port Bickerton, Roy loved his Lord above all else and dedicated his life to the word and teachings of God. Following his retirement, Roy spent his time making miniature lobster pots that were sold at craft shows and ensuring there was plenty of wood to warm the family home. Many times Roy could be seen in his yard piling wood, taking the time to make sure each new tier was perfectly straight and in alignment with the others. He was a respected and much loved member of the community and he will be sadly missed by all. He is survived by his dedicated wife of 63 years, the former Amanda Clare Horton; daughter, Addean Harpell, Port Bickerton; brother, Frank Harpell, Harpellville; grandsons, Derek and Thomas; granddaughter, Samantha; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by foster son, Mervin Harpell; brothers, Aubrey Ronald, David Nelson, Charles Douglas; sister, Margaret Matilda O'Hara. Visitation will be held today from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. in Gospel Light Church, Port Bickerton, from where funeral service will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m., with Pastor Wayne Dingle officiating, assisted by Pastors John Luten and Morris Mills. Burial in Hillside Cemetery, Port Bickerton. Memorial donations may be made to St. Mary's Memorial Hospital, Sherbrooke, Gospel Light Church, Port Bickerton or a charity of choice. McDANIEL, John Arthur - 68, Margaree Forks, Inverness Co., passed away suddenly at his home on Friday March 7, 2008. He was the son of the late Peter M. and Mary Ann (Tompkins) McDaniel. He is survived by his daughter, Caralee, Dartmouth; son, Shawn, Squamish, B.C.; granddaughters, Kelsie and Mataya; sister, Annabelle (John) Tompkins; former wife, Diane; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers, Daniel J, Harold Joseph, Gregory and Francis; sisters, Genevieve, Elizabeth and Margaret Rose. Visitation will be held in St. Patrick's parish hall, North East Margaree today from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral mass will be held on Tuesday March 11, at 11 a.m. in St. Patrick's Church, North East Margaree with Father Jim MacDonald officiating. ROWLEY, Marie Inez - The death of Marie Inez Rowley, of the Loch Lomond Villa, and widow of the late Walter Cecil Rowley Sr., occurred at the Saint John Regional Hospital, on Saturday March 8, 2008. Born in Saint John, Marie was a daughter of the late Louis Thomas and Rose Lima (Savage) Hodd. In her early years, Marie had worked for Eastern Bakeries. She was also very active with the Ladies Auxillary in the legion B ranch No. 64 and then No. 69, and she was an avid Bingo player. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was predeceased by her brothers, Clement Hodd, Stephen Hodd, Francis Hodd, Edward Hodd, Louis Hodd, and Ervin Hodd; sisters, Clare Edgett and Ursula Vaughan. She is survived by her sons, Donald (Marie), Kingston Peninsula; Paul (Gail), Saint John; Walter (Gillian), Yarmouth, and Peter, Victoria, B.C.; daughters, Roseanne (Wayne) Magee, Saint John, and Patricia (Stephen) Quinn, Paris, Ont.; her extended family, the Backyard Kids; 12 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Resting at Fitzpatrick's Funeral Home, 100 Waterloo St. Visitation today and Tuesday 2-4 p.m., and 7-9 p.m. and from where the funeral will be held on Wednesday at 10:40 a.m. to St. Peter's Church for Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. Interment to take place in Cedar Hill Cemetery. TEMPLE, Eric Sinclair - 80, Kingston, Kings Co., formerly of Aylesford, Kings Co. passed away Friday March 7, 2008, in the Soldier's Memorial Hospital, Middleton. Born in Halifax, he was a son of the late Burton and Janet (Naugler) Temple. Eric was a retired Captain in the Royal Canadian Army and throughout his military career was posted across Canada at various locations and had been a member of the Black Watch Regiment. He was a member of the Aylesford United Church, and Kentville Lodge # 58, A.F. & A.M., Kentville and was a 50 year jewel holder. Eric was also a member of various other Masonic related organizations. He was an avid sports enthusiast, playing hockey and was one of the founding directors of the Maritime Quarter Horse Association. Surviving are his wife, Ardith P. (Collins) Temple, Kingston; son, Jeffrey (Samantha) Temple, Shubenacadie; daughter, Karen (George) Atkins, Aylesford; grandsons, Derek and Steven Atkins. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by brothers, Roy and Alan Temple; sisters, Margaret Yates; Helen Temple. There will be no visitation. WAGNER, Nelson Sylvester - 81, of New Canaan Road, New Minas, formerly of Chipman Corner, Kings Co., passed away Saturday, March 8, 2008, in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Toronto, he was a son of the late Marion LeGrand and Mabel Sybil (Palmer) Wagner. He devoted his life to farming and the agricultural industry in both British Columbia and Nova Scotia. He had been employed with Canard Poultry from 1973 to 1991 and later worked for Tenderfresh Farms and as a consultant for A.C.A. Co-operative. He was a member and former acting chair of the Nova Scotia Turkey Marketing Board. He enjoyed traveling, gardening and animals. He was passionate about many projects and hobbies, the latest of which were his lilies and gardens. He is survived by daughters, Catherine Mills, Canning; Donna (Joseph) Larder, New Ross; sons, Stephen Scott, Glenmont; David, Oliver, British Columbia; grandchildren, Thomas, Shawn, Colin and Dean; a sister, Frances MacIntosh, Langley, B.C.; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, the former Norma Jean MacPherson; brother, Bert; sister, Rita; grandson, Mathew. Cremation has taken place under the direction of the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, where visitation will be held from 7-9 p.m. Thursday, March 13, 2008. HARVEY, Clyde Lormer - 84, of Steam Mill, Kings Co., passed away on Sunday, March 9, 2008, in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Kentville, he was a son of the late Barry and Margaret (Mahar) Harvey. He was a veteran of the Second World War and a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Kings Branch No. 6, Kentville. He had been employed as a truck driver and later as a Commissionaire. He worked on the Canso Causeway and was proud to have led the parade, being the first one to officially cross the causeway. He is survived by his wife, the former Ethel Haggerty; daughters, Shirley (Doug) Tracey and Norma (Edward) Webster, both of Aldershot, Kings Co.; a son, Sheldon, Steam Mill; a special nephew, Bev Harvey, Centreville; sisters, Eleanor (Earl) Haggerty, Centreville; Leota O'Connell, Evergreen Home for Special Care, Kentville; Joan (Lawrence) Arnburg, Steam Mill; brothers, Jim (Berneda) Coldbrook; George (Jane), New Minas; Maurice (Florence), Aldershot; grandchildren, Barry (Dana) Tracey, Keith Tracey, Ronald (Tammy) Webster, Leonard (Christena) Webster, Bernadette (Rickey) Fraser, Randall Harvey and Sonia Harvey; 14 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. AGAR, H. John 2008-03-10 Mr. H. John Agar, age 65 years, passed away peacefully with his family at his side in St. Joseph’s Hospital on Saturday morning, March 8, 2008. John was born in Kenora, Ontario on January 31, 1943 to Elswood and Margaret Agar. He grew up in Fort Frances before coming to Fort William in 1966. He worked for the City of Fort William as a Property Assessor before taking a position in the same field with the Province of Ontario where he stayed until his retirement after 31 years of service in 1999. In 1970 he started Robyn Landscaping which became his true passion and purpose, providing employment for many young people in Thunder Bay over the years. John became an avid runner in his 30s, joining the Thunder Bay Striders, completing two marathons and many other runs in Northwestern Ontario and the United States. For years he served as a volunteer at the Sibley Ski Tour, the Heart of Thunder Bay run and the 10 Mile Road Race. He also enjoyed the time he and Jayne spent wintering in Ft. Myers, Florida and the Bahamas. His greatest joy came during his visits to Milwaukee to see his grandson Jack. He is lovingly remembered and dearly missed by his wife of 40 years Jayne, daughter Robyn (Chip) Slater and grandson Jack, mother Margaret Agar, brother Doug (Wendy) Agar, mother-in-law Marie Suttie, brothers-in-law Tommy (Celina) Suttie and Ronnie (Susan) Suttie, sisters-in-law Carol (Dave) Farrow and Heather (Gerry) Belanger as well as by numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his father, Elswood Agar and his brother-in-law, Richard Suttie. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 12, 2008 at 11:30 a.m. in St. John’s Anglican Church, 226 Pearl Street, with the Ven. Mark S. Conliffe presiding. The services will be complete in the church with a reception to follow at the Valhalla Inn. In lieu of flowers memorials to the Alzheimer Society or the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated. HARNISH, Frank "Neil" - 87, Second Peninsula, Lunenburg Co., passed away on Saturday, March 8, 2008, in Fishermen's Memorial Hospital, Lunenburg. Born in The Lodge, Northwest Cove, he was a son of the late George and Evangeline (Stevens) Harnish. As a child growing up during the depression he delivered eggs and produce that he grew to the local communities to help the family survive, and later he worked on a mink ranch. At age 22, he started work at Powers Brothers, Lunenburg, as a metal fabricator and was employed there for almost 40 years. He and Marie were avid gardeners and for many years grew vegetables and had award winning flower gardens that were admired by people from all over the world. He was a member of Calvary Temple Pentecostal Church, Mahone Bay. Surviving are his wife, the former Marie Stevens, Lunenburg; daughter, Edna (William) Woundy, Martin's Brook; son, Graham (Shirley) Harnish, Oakland; sister, Evelyn (Wilfred) Stevens, Second Peninsula; half-brothers, Paul (Althea) Rhodenizer, Second Peninsula, and Douglas (Shirley) Rhodenizer, Lilydale; grandchildren, Ted Woundy, Natasha Bolivar and Shauna Harnish; great-grandchildren, Hannah and Zachary Bolivar, and Autumn Harnish-Venoit. Besides his parents, Neil was predeceased by his stepfather, Clarence Rhodenizer. Friends are invited to share their memories of Neil with his family during visitation in Dana L. MILANI, Sandra Gloria 2008-03-10 It is with tremendous sorrow that the family of Sandi Milani announce her sudden and unexpected passing on Friday March 7th, 2008. Sandi was born on June 3, 1977 and brought joy to the lives of everyone who knew her. Even though Sandi could not communicate with words, she spoke with her eyes. Sandi is survived by her father Terry Milani, stepmother Jennifer LaVoie-Milani, sister Jannessa, mother Margarida Esteves, sisters Teri Ann and Cryssi Milani, aunts, uncles and cousins. Sandi is also survived by her friends and long time roommates Glen, Brenda, Sue and her very special friend Jamie. Words can not express the gratitude we have for the workers at Sandi’s group home that cared for her and loved her. You all gave her a quality of life beyond no other. Gilbert worked for many years with the Dominion Atlantic Railway (DAR). He was an avid hunter, fisherman and enjoyed the outdoors. HARVEY, William James "Bill" - The family are saddened to announce his passing at home, 88 Cameron Ave., New Glasgow, on March 7, 2008. Born in Belle Island, NL., he was a son of the late James and Catherine (Somerton) Harvey. Bill was a resident of New Glasgow for over 50 years. He was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church. Bill dedicated 25 years to the mining industry in Pictou County, and retired from Scott Paper with 19 years of service in November 1986. Bill was the last surviving member of his immediate family and will always be remembered for his quick wit and sense of humour. Born in Port Lorne, she was the daughter of the late Myleta (Walker) Lewis, but after Myleta's death, she was raised by her grandparents, Grace and Evans Walker. Throughout her life, Carolyn worked hard at whatever she put her hand to. She enjoyed gardening and crafts and spent many hours at both. Cooking was a passion of hers and she particularly looked forward to Christmas, when she loved to prepare food as gifts for family and friends. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Surviving are her husband, Wayne Zwicker; daughters, Myleta (Arnie) Ross, Margaretsville; Ann Caldwell, Aylesford; Jane (Brad) Gregory, North Williamston; son, Frank "Jr." (Victor) Illsley, Moncton, N.B.; grandchildren, Karen, Martin, Jennifer, Krista, Amy, Jeremy, and Wayne, as well as four great-grandchildren. WALKER, ROSS MAXWELL It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of Ross Maxwell Walker, husband of the late Mary Walker, of Harvey, NB occurred on March 9, 2008 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital in Fredericton. Born on November 26, 1933, Ross was the son of the late Orley and Jessie (Winsor) Walker. Ross was an insurance underwriter for Stanley Mutual until his retirement and was a member of Hillcrest United Church in Stanley where he was a member of the choir. Ross enjoyed round/square dancing, the Stanley Players Theatre and fishing. He was a former member of the Stanley Village council. Ross is survived by his children, Lynn Walker (Diane Roth) of Courtenay, BC, Laura Young (Travis) of Courtenay, BC, Karen Booker (Randy) of Fergus, ON, Kelly Walker (Kim) of Douglas, NB and Jessie McFadyen (John) of Harvey, NB; five grandchildren, to whom he was known as "Gumpy", Danny Booker, Jody Booker, Jesse Booker, Geoff Walker and MacKenzie Walker; three brothers, Bruce (Grace), Jack (Laureen), Larry (Shirley), all of Ontario; three sisters, June Holden, Marie England and Fern Liffiton, all of Ontario; and several nieces and nephews. Donald, was the beloved husband of Bernice Elsie Beaton, he was 90 years old.
