He was born on April 5th, 1933, the son of the late William and Alice (Porter) Cole. Lawrence is survived by his wife, Ramona; sons, Bob Cole of ON and Larry Cole of Edmonton, AB; brother, Roy Cole of Newcastle, NB; sisters, Bernetta and Tom Blundon of Corner Brook, NL and Eileen and Wilson Penney of Corner Brook, NL. BASKIN, ELIZABETH F. - The death of Elizabeth Florence Baskin of Sussex occurred at the Saint John Regional Hospital on March 2nd, 2008 at the age of 78. Born in Sussex a daughter of the late Hedley and Sarah (Robinson) Cameron. She is survived by daughters, Carol Brown (David) of Urney, Cheryl MacAulay (Paul) of Miramichi and Gloria Shay (Alfred) of Knightville; son, Charles of Ontario; grandchildren, Amy and Matthew MacAulay, Kristin and Kevin Shay and Dwight Brown; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by grandson, Trevor Shay; her longtime companion, Gordon Mabee; and sisters, Doris Flannigan, Stella Burgess, Joyce Chabadeau and Marg DeVine. The family will receive visitors at the Sussex Select Community Funeral Home, 21 Aiton Road Sussex, (506-433-2133) on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM. ANDERSON, GEORGE REID - Peacefully at home, surrounded by his family, George went home to be with the Lord on March 3rd, 2008. He was born at Andersonville, NB in 1934. Husband of his loving wife and friend, Carol (Emery) Anderson. Survived by one son, Tony (Jane) Anderson, of Waweig, one daughter, Terry (Dave) MacMillan of Waweig, two chosen daughters, Brenda Fullerton of Waweig, Lynn (Richard) Purcell of St. Stephen, seven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, one sister, Annie Hovey, Old Ridge, NB, several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his mom and dad, four brothers, Harvey, Samuel, Vance and Louie, one sister, Inez. The family will receive friends at the S.O. MCCAIG, GERARD S. - The death of Gerard S. McCaig (age 75), husband of Carmel (Daigle) McCaig, occurred peacefully at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Sunday, March 2, 2008 after a lengthy illness. Gerard was a life long member of the Knights of Columbus, being a team Captain for the Degree Team and Past Grand Knight of Council 937. He was Head Usher for St.Ann's Church and a Past-President of Parish Council. Gerard retired from the New Brunswick Department of Transportation after a 32 year career that included with him being District Supervisor/ Driver Examination Services. He was a lifelong member of the United Commercial Travellers. He coached many hockey teams during his lifetime and particularly enjoyed his appointment as president of Simonds Minor Hockey and trainer for the Saint John Schooners which recently celebrated their 40th anniversary. Gerard will be especially missed by his wife of 49 years, Carmel; his son, Michael (Karen) of Saint John; and his precious granddaughter, Victoria. Gerard was predeceased by his eight siblings Bill, John, James, Danny, Gregory, Helen Lenihan, Jean, and Verna McCutcheon.. Resting at Fitzpatrick's Funeral Home, 100 Waterloo St., with visiting on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Ann's Church on Wednesday morning at eleven o'clock. Reception to follow in St. Ann's Parish Hall. Following cremation interment will take place in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Reception to follow at St.Ann's Church Hall. In Lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer's Society, the Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation, or the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated. GIBSON,B. Evelyn (Cowan Hewitt) - Passed away peacefully at the Haliburton Hospital on Thursday, February 28, 2008. In her 87th year. She was predeceased by her husbands Richard Hewitt (1966) and Henry Gibson (1994). She was a loving mother to Vern (Haliburton), Peter and Marilyn (Nepean), Carolyn and Rick Fuerth (Windsor), Larry and Betty (West Guilford), Roger and Kathy (Richmond Hill), and Henry's three children - Paul Gibson, Ruth Owen, and Elizabeth Nikitin. She was a loving grandmother to Ian, Jason and Debbie, Tricia, Shawn, Sherry and Dave, Jennifer and Randy, Brianne and Mike, Britney and Jeremy, Richard, Christopher, Mackenzie, Jenny and Joe, John and Laurie, Jane and Dan, and Amanda. She was also Nana to Zac, Ty, Jordyn, Jack, and Henry's grandchildren. Evelyn was the daughter of the late William and Vera (McBrien) Cowan. She was a dear sister to Mary Cox, Jack Cowan and Vern Cowan (1944). Evelyn grew up at Maple Lake and pursued a nursing career in Toronto. In 1943, Evelyn and Dick bought lake property in Stanhope Township, and she was a driving force in the growth and development of Little Hawk Lake Resort until 1976. She served her community on both the county school board and library board as well as the building committee of Haliburton Hospital (1970). HADLEY, Ivan Mark - Passed away suddenly at the Ross Memorial Hospital in Lindsay on Wednesday, February 27, 2008. Ivan at the age of 76 was the beloved husband and best friend of Marilyn (nee Sisson) for 52 years. Ivan was a loving father to his two daughters Karen and Janet and sons-in-law Rich Bellamy and Brian Demoe. His five grandchildren Jackson and Shannon Bellamy and Paige, Brett and Lauren Demoe will always cherish their memories of fun times with their Poppy Ivan. Much loved brother-in-law of Yvonne MacDuff and her husband Elgin and their family. Dear brother of Ruth and her husband the late Carl Osborne, June and her husband the late Lorne Powell, Mary and her husband the late Ralph Armstrong, Judy Greaves, Don and his wife Joan, Ron and his wife Madeline, and predeceased by his brother George (survived wife Milly) and sister Winnie Caister (survived husband Steve). ANDERMATT, Elsie Frieda - In her 89th year, entered into eternal rest on Saturday March 1, 2008. She joins her beloved husband Joseph, her son Joseph Peter, sister Hilda and brother Max. Dear mother of Mary Haskins Carbone (Randy), Anne Cruse (Ken) and Patricia Yanik (Tom Lehan). Grandma will be fondly remembered by her eight grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. Elsie is also survived by many relatives in Canada and Switzerland. She will also be sadly missed by her dear friend of 78 years, Josephine Meyer. Elsie was born in Switzerland and emigrated with her family to St. Catharines where she lived for 39 years. She was a member of St. Catherine of Alexandria Cathedral, St. Thomas Aquinas Church, and for the past 41 years a parishioner of Sacred Heart Church in Chippawa. Elsie was also a C.W.L. member for over 50 years. Elsie's family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to her respite companions Marilyn, Joyce and Sheila for their loving care for over 6 years as well as the staff of Bella Senior Care Residence in Chippawa for their kindness during her final year in their care. MAIDENS, JOHN HENRY.- Chief Superintendent (ret'd) Jack Maidens, born December 3, 1929 in Belleville, Ontario, passed away with dignity courage and sense of humour still intact, on January 14, 2008, following a three month struggle with a form of bone marrow cancer and endocarditis. Jack grew up in Trenton, Ontario, where he was a star athlete in track and field, basketball, football and softball. In later years, sailing, fishing and golf replaced these activities, but the recreation softball continued until his retirement. Throughout his life he was a “Mr. Fixit“, an insatiable reader, an avid bridge player and a lover of music. Jack spent the first three years after his Regina R.C.M.P. training in Aklavik and Tuktoyuktuk, N.W. T. and was subsequently posted to Edmonton, Ottawa - three separate times - Regina, Victoria, Terrace, Yorkton and finally Vancouver, where he retired as Officer in Charge of Administration and Personnel for E Division (B.C). Jack will be lovingly remembered and forever missed by his wife of 55 years Margaret (Maitland) and by his five children - Michael (Deborah) Maidens, Laurie (Gerry) Bonsal, Sally (Ash) Megalli, Jeff (Feiza) Maidens and youngest daughter, Peggy Maidens and by his twelve grandchildren of whom he was so proud. He is also survived by his sisters Phyllis (Albert - dec) Leavey, Dorothy (Gord - dec) Webb, Mary (Roland) Pouliot, Nancy (Ross) Vogan, brother-in-law, Carson Wilkie, his brother-in-law Mac (Emily Maitland and numerous nieces and nephews. GERVAIS, Rachel Juliette - (nee Gosselin) - Entered into rest at the Ross Memorial Hospital in Lindsay on Friday, February 29th, 2008. Born on January 3rd, 1920 in Sherbrooke, Quebec. Graduate of the Latchford School of Fashion Design in Toronto in 1946. married to Lionel Gervais for over 61 years. Throughout her career, she took great pride in designing wedding dresses and figure skating costumes. She also taught sewing and conversational French. In her later years, she enjoyed gardening, singing and playing the piano. She is survived by her devoted husband Lionel, daughters Marcelle and Gisele, both of Florida, two grandchildren and six great grandchildren, her brother Jean-Marie Gosselin of La Sarre, Quebec and her sister Pauline Huot of Montreal. Cremation has taken place. A private family service was held at the STODDART FUNERAL HOME in Lindsay. BASS, Jennie April 2, 1922 - March 1, 2008 In loving memory of Jennie Bass, loving mother and wife, who passed away peacefully at the age of 85. She is now at peace with the Lord. Jennie leaves to carry forth her memory her loving husband of sixty years, Peter, her children Phillip (Ellen) and Joan (Paul). She will be greatly missed by her grandchildren Owen (Chrystal), Erin (Colin), Stephen (Amanda), Andrea and Jasmine and her great-grandchildren Grace, Sarah, Raya and Matthea. She is survived by her remaining sister Winnie (England) and many nieces and nephews and friends in England and Australia. Jennie was born in Nottingham, England, the ninth of ten children. She proudly served in the British WAAF during WWII, before marrying Peter in November of 1947. They immigrated to Canada in the early 1950's. First Peter in 1952 and she then followed in 1953, bringing their first born Joan. They left war torn England, to create a new life for themselves. They lived a full and rewarding life, first in Calgary, and then later in Spruce Grove where they moved to in 1998. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 4 at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church (200 Boundary Road in Spruce Grove) for family and friends with the Royal Canadian Legion presenting an Honor Guard, reflecting her war time service. CRAIB, Isabel Doris August 7, 1920 - February 13, 2008 Isabel passed away peacefully at her home in Calgary on February 13, 2008. She was born in Toronto and moved to Calgary in 1996 after the passing of her husband of fifty-three years, William Ronald Craib (Ron), to be closer to family. Isabel lived a full and active life and enjoyed traveling with her husband Ron and spending summers at their island retreat on Georgian Bay. She will be missed by her three sons, David and his wife Cathie (Wilson) in Calgary, Cameron and his wife Kathy (Lindberg) in Toronto and John in Victoria. HANSON, Russell Wilfred March 18, 1925 - February 28, 2008 On Thursday, February 28, 2008, Russell Hanson of Edmonton, our beloved father, grandfather, brother and friend, passed away peacefully at home at the age of 82. Russell will be missed by his loving children, Karen Gloge (Robert), Marlene, and Jeff, as well as by his grandchildren Justin, Scott, Stephanie, Jessica, Colby and Cara. JAEDICKE, Claire (Mary) (nee Corbin) Our beloved wife, mom, grandmother, great-grandmother and nanny. Passed away March 1, 2008 in Kelowna at the age of 81 years, after a valiant struggle with cancer. Mary will truly be missed by her husband, Heinz of fifty-four years and her three children and their families; daughter, Betty Ann Humphreys, granddaughter, Stacy (Daren) Gauthier and great-granddaughter Brooklyn all of Brooks, Alberta; son, Karl (Kim) and granddaughter, Brittany of Calgary, Alberta and son Darryl (Iris Hayden) of Parksville, B.C. and grandchildren James and Brandy both of Calgary. Also left to mourn her passing are Nanny's Westbank family, Brent Illingworth, Chris (Keith) Garvin and daughters, Karli and Shaylee Illingworth. Mary was predeceased by her parents, Joseph and Delima Corbin; five sisters; two brothers and six siblings in infancy. Born and raised in Tofield, Alberta, she served in the Navy during WWII and was stationed in Montreal. Mary also lived in Barrhead, Edmonton and Calgary before moving to Westbank, where she has lived for the past twenty-one years. Mary was a very kind and loving person especially when she was tending to the many children she sat for over the years. She had an infectious smile for those she met everyday and there was never an empty tummy! May your journey be restful Mom, we will truly miss you! KING, E. Steven May 24, 1951 - February 29, 2008 On a beautiful spring day, with the mountains looking spectacular, the funniest guy I've ever known, my brother Steve passed away. Many people will miss his sharp wit and friendly outgoing charm. He will be remembered most often by me, Tina King, his niece Julia Faurschou and brother-in-law Ken Faurschou. Cousins deeply touched by Steve were Jim Stuart, Jane Johnson, Jan MacIntyre, Rob Stuart, Ellen Beal, "Izzy" Ham, Colleen Wright and many more. The boys from Banff will recall many spectacular days on the slopes of Lake Louise, followed by evenings at the King Eddy Bar. Steve's many years living in Banff were a very happy time for him. Steve was not only a charmer, but also an incredible athlete. From High School football to hockey, skiing, golf and mountain biking it all seemed effortless. I recall our Dad once saying "man that kid can hit a golf ball farther than anyone I've ever seen." As kids we were fortunate to spend our summers at Cedar Point on Georgian Bay in Ontario. There were many happy times spent there, and that is where I will spread Steve's ashes this summer. Ken was born on August 25, 1959 in Winnipeg, MB. He was a long time employee of AGT, later becoming a site inspector with Telus. Ken was extremely social and a strong sports enthusiast. He was a man with a big heart and touched everyone in a loving way with his compassionate and genuine soul. Ken loved and cared for his family deeply. DOIG, Bethany Sara - It is with a profound sense of sadness that we announce the sudden and unexpected loss of our dear and beloved Bethie at University Hospital in London on Sunday, March 2, 2008, due to an aggressive viral infection at the age of 21. Muncie held a special place in her heart for her niece Carolyn. Hatley neighbours Mr. and Mrs. MacDonald provided much more than the very closest friendship. MARTELL, William James "Bill" 2008-03-04 Mr. William James "Bill" Martell, age 73 years passed away unexpectedly at his residence on Tuesday, March 3, 2008. Bill was born in Port Arthur on August 1, 1934 to Lillie and Ted Martell and grew up in the family home at 208 Algoma Street. In his healthier days he loved to travel and enjoyed the Caribbean but his favorite destination was Las Vegas. Due to recent ill health his trips were limited to traveling to Hinckley, Minnesota which he also enjoyed. Bill worked for over 35 years with the Manitoba Pool Elevators retiring on May 1, 1994. He was a member of Branch #5 of the Royal Canadian Legion where he enjoyed his crib games with his good friends. He also enjoyed the opportunity to spend time with friends that was provided through the Pot Luck Dinners at the Glengowan. He will be lovingly remembered and dearly missed by Dorothy (nee Slater), his loving wife of 34 years, sister-in-law Peggy Martell, nephews and nieces: Dennis (Diane) and Michael (Judy) Martell, Cindy (Ben) Rzepczynski, Kelly (Dale) Godick of Thunder Bay and Laurie Godick and Artie Godick of Winnipeg; as well as by numerous great nieces and great nephews. Uncle Bill was much loved. He was predeceased by his parents Lillie and Ted Martell, brothers Danny (J.D.), Teddy, Bobby, Paddy and Ray and his sister Carol Godick.
