CAREY, Douglas Martin June 25, 1921 - March 1, 2008 (Veteran WWII, RCAF) Passed away peacefully in Arnprior and District Memorial Hospital on Saturday evening, March 1, 2008, Douglas Martin Carey of Arnprior, Ontario in his 87th year. Beloved husband of Edna (nee Wolff) for 51 years. Dear brother of Kenneth (Rita) Carey of Kingston and brother-in-law of Earl (Anne) Wolff of Oshawa. Devoted uncle to his nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents Leo and Janet (Wilson) Carey and his brothers John (RCAF 1942) and Frederick (late Jean) 2006. SAMPSON, Whiley - 81. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our father, John Whiley Sampson, on Saturday, March 1, 2008, in Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney. Born in Sampsonville, he was a son of Peter and Maggie (Sampson) Sampson. Whiley was first employed as an engineer on the Lake Boats, followed by employment for 25 years at the Stora Pulp and Paper Mill until his retirement. Above all, he loved his family and will always be remembered as an excellent "Grampie". He will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by his children, Leslie (Diane), Halifax; Faye (Alan) Gibson, River Bourgeois; Darrell (Rose), St. Peter's; Lana (James) Martell, Halifax; Albert (Marlene), St. Peter's; Lisa (Gerard), Port Hawkesbury; Troy (Darlene), Abbotsford, B.C., and his grandchildren, Cory (Brandy), Tara, Ian, Ben, Beth (John), Jessica, D.J., Kayla, Tyson, Zachary, Hunter, Max and Joseph. SHEAVES, Chesley Peter - 85, of Halifax, passed away in Camp Hill Veterans' Memorial Building, QEII, on March 2, 2008. Chesley was born in Border Pass, N.L. He served overseas in the Second World War in the Canadian Army. He enjoyed dancing and had a great love for animals. He is survived by his wife, the former Irene Slauenwhite; son, David, Halifax. FARMER (Holmes), Mary Alice - Dartmouth. It is with much sadness that we announce the passing of our mother and grandmother on March 2, 2008. Born in Warrington, Cheshire, England, on August 11, 1926, Mary was the only daughter of the late Alfred and Sarah (Spode) Holmes. In 1947, she immigrated to Canada, married Harry Anderson Farmer and settled in Dartmouth. Mary was a very vibrant, fun loving and independent person who loved to travel, read, knit and work in the garden. She was a busy volunteer with many local organizations including the I.O.D.E., South End Baptist Church, the Craig Gallery at Alderney Landing, and was a volunteer with the Dartmouth General Hospital Auxiliary for over 30 years. Mary's most important role in life was that of a loving wife, mother and grandmother, and her daughters and grandchildren will remember fondly all the laughs and great food they shared each Tuesday for lunch. Mary was predeceased by her husband, Harry Farmer, and grandson, Samuel Jangaard. She is survived by her daughters, Marilyn (Ian) MacKinlay, Anne (Gary) Baker, Kimberley Farmer (Tom Jangaard); her grandchildren, Leah (Doug) Gallant, Rory MacKinlay (Calgary), Elizabeth Baker, Ryan MacKinlay, Ruby Jangaard, George Jangaard. She is survived by cousins, James (May) Lloyd, Warrington, England, and Patricia Spode, Stoke-on-Trent, England. She is also survived by a large extended Farmer family within HRM. A special thank you to the caring nurses on 3 West, Dartmouth General Hospital, and to Pastor Marlene Knowles. Mary will be greatly missed by her family and many friends. Cremation has taken place. WALSH, Viola Marie - 84, Halifax, passed away on Saturday, March 1, 2008. Born in Halifax, she was a daughter of the late Kyral and Agatha Mae (Kehoe) Kemp. She worked as an administrative assistant at the Canadian Manufacturers Association until her retirement. She was an avid bridge player, but most of all she was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Vaughn; sons, Barrie (Alice), Halifax, and Kevin (Leanne), Riverview, N.B.; daughter, Donna (Jack) Hutchison, Middle Sackville; grandchildren, Matthew (Christine) and Peter Walsh, Robyn (Ryan) Murphy, Meaghan and Andrew Hutchison, Cameron and Kennedy Walsh, Chris and Geoff Walsh; great-grandchildren, Elijah, Joseph and Sarah Walsh, Abby Murphy. CAMPBELL (Gottwald), Anne Rosalee - 88, formerly of New Waterford, passed peacefully away in the Lion's Manor, Placentia, N.L., on Sunday, March 2, 2008, after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. DUHAULT, Louis G. Jacques Duhault Major (Retired) June 30, 1930 - March 3, 2008 Louis Duhault, beloved husband of Dolores, passed away peacefully at Foothills Medical Centre on March 3, 2008 at the age of 77 years. Family was always important to Dad/Grandpa, especially in his post retirement years, where he really appreciated the love of his children and grandchildren and the unconditional and devotional love of his wife of fifty-six years, Dolores E. Duhault (nee Mitchell). He is survived by his five children: Kevin Duhault, John Duhault (Patti), Adrian Duhault (Lynne), Peter Duhault (Linda), and Alicia Duhault (Jeff) and his nine grandchildren: Aaron, Terra, Kaela, Alex, and Kiidra, Lacey, Chandler and Tiffany, and Navarre. Louis was born in Quebec City, the youngest son of the late Col. and Madame J.R.J. Duhault, OBE, and is survived by his brothers Maurice Duhault (Therese) of St. Bruno and Paul Duhault (Dorothy) of Toronto, and his sister Francoise Kenyon of Montreal and his sister-in-law, Mary Bergeron (Merlin) of Calgary. He is predeceased by his sister Madeliene McInerney of London. Louis had a distinguished thirty-five-year career as a Canadian Military officer serving his country throughout Canada and Europe. Loyalty and respect were two key values he impressed and expected from his men and his family. He will always be remembered for his energy on the dance floor, his strong bass voice, his quick sense of humour, and his unwavering devotion to his Lord and God. BYERS, Marilyn - Dec. 19, 1954 - Feb 26, 2008 - It is with great sadness that we announce that Marilyn Byers has passed away, following a long battle with cancer. Marilyn died peacefully at home in Campbell River, BC, on February 26, 2008, with Gord and Taffy by her side. She was predeceased by her parents, Emma and Lorne Madill and her brother, Dennis Madill. Marliyn is survived by her loving partner, Gordon Ireland; her three sons, Jason (Sherri), Jaret (Aimee) and Josh (Tara); Gordon's daughters, Crystal and Laicie; grandchildren, Braeden, Bradley, Felicity and Rylee. She is also survived by her siblings, Karen (Brian), Kathy (Don), Brian (Gail) and Bill (Sandy); her first husband, Jeff Byers; many nieces and nephews in Ontario and BC and her special friends, Verna, Lorne, Louise, all the Staff of Cheries and Altech, Larry, Colleen, Albert, Colleen and many many friends. Marilyn was born in Perth, Ontario on December 19, 1954, into a family of 6 children. She started a hairdressing career in Ontario before marrying Jeff Buyers. Together with their 3 sons, they settled in Campbell River in 1980. Marilyn continued to work in her career and eventually owned her own business in Campbell River. Marilyn enjoyed watching her boys in their passions of music, sports and family. She was always the biggest fan. She later learned to enjoy travelling with Gord and loved fishing and boating with Gord and Taffy. They enjoyed entertaining in their home and with their friends and family. Marilyn lived her life one day at a time and was a friend of Bill W. SCHAFFER, Elaine "Bernice" June 30, 1933 - March 3, 2008 Bernice Schaffer passed away peacefully at the Agape Hospice, Monday, March 3, 2008 at the age of 74 after a long struggle with cancer. Bernice is survived by her loving son Peter and daughter-in-law Rosemarie; one brother Bud Longphee (Joan) of Storthoaks, SK; four sisters: Marion Fuller of Alida, SK, Donna Grandy (Bob) of Glen Ewen, SK, Jan Bozak (Ed) of Calgary, AB, Lol O'Shaughnessy (Dale) of Prince Albert, SK; and numerous nieces and nephews. Marks, Mary Josephine - It is with deep sadness that the family of Mary Josephine Marks acknowledges her death on Saturday, March 1, 2008. She passed away at her home of the past twenty-two years, St. John and St. Stephen Church Home, surrounded by her family. Mary was born on September 4, 1917 a daughter of the late William John and Mary Adelaide (Cameron) Marks. Mary attended Alexandra School despite adversity and physical impairments due to cerebral palsy, until the sixth grade and continued to grasp a great wealth of knowledge via media and interaction with family and friends. At a very young age she persevered in learning the art of needlework and to this very day many of her beautiful pieces of work adorn family homes. Everyone who knew Mary loved and admired her caring, compassionate ways and her sense of humour. As a resident of the Church Home she completed the Pastoral Care Course and on many occasions was called upon to sit with residents as they passed away. She touched the hearts of all who knew her and will be greatly missed. The fabric of her family has a large hole in it, we will miss you Mornie! Survived by two sisters, Margaret Peters of Saint John and Ethel Power of Halifax, NS; a special niece, Bonnie Peters of Saint John; several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by four brothers, Lee, William, Russell and Roy, and two sisters, Mona and Blanche. SCHURMAN, Mary Edna - 89, Mount Denson, Hants Co., passed away Sunday, March 2, 2008, in Dykeland Lodge, Windsor. She was born on May 9, 1918, in New Ross, Lunenburg Co., and was a daughter of the late Emerson and Winnifred (Meister) Redden. She was the wife of the late Amos Schurman and continued to live on the Century Farm and raised her family after his early death. In later years she enjoyed her employment at the Haliburton Museum. She joined the United Church of Canada in Mount Denson and in later years attended St. James United Church in Hantsport. She was a member of the church choir and greatly enjoyed singing and the social activities of the church. She was a member of the Windsor Legion and enjoyed activities there. She loved her large family, painting, dancing, bowling and her many friends. She is survived by her children, Earle (Myrtle), Mount Denson; his children, Mort, Beverley, Sam and Amanda; Betty Lou (Paul Loomer), Falmouth; their children, Ray, Glen, Nancy and Peter; Diane (Grant Jackson), Springhill; her children, Amos, Darlene and Carl; Douglas (Margie), Mount Denson; his children, Jennifer and Barry; Linda (Peter King) West Bay; their children, Katherine and Emily; Harry (Lila), Lockhartville; their children, Tamara and Andrew; also granddaughters, Jane Grantham and Louise McLaren, both of Ontario. Beloved husband of the late Elsie Crossley. BISH, Kenneth Alexander - Peacefully at Alexandra Hospital, Ingersoll on Sunday March 2, 2008, in his 100th year. Ken was born in Berlin (Kitchener), Ontario on June 16, 1908. He was predeceased by his loving wife Jeannetta (McIrvine) (January 2000) and sisters Olive and Margaret. Loving father of Don Bish of Norwich, Bernie and wife Maureen Bish of Dorchester. He will be sadly missed by his four grandchildren, Todd (Roberta), Michelle (Gerry), Melissa (Brian), and Robert (Sherry), and seven great-grandchildren, Dylan, Oscar, Isabel, Kyle, Fraser, Alec and Max. Ken moved to Norwich in 1933 as manager of the Agnew-Surpass shoe store. Within a few months, he purchased the business and happily fitted shoes until December 3, 1974 when he retired from the store. After retirement, Ken continued to enjoy farming and cutting grass with his John Deere mower. He was a member of the St. John's Lodge. Family and friends will treasure Ken's stories.
