Dear father to Sandra and her husband Claus von Zittwitz of Valdosta, Georgia, and Rick and his wife Ruthann (Ellerbeck) of Tilbury. Cherished grandpa to Dietrich von Zittwitz of Fort Myers, Florida, Michelle and her husband Diego Becthold of Cochrane, Alberta, and Melissa Pearce and her partner Peter Meslyk of Morpeth. CIVALIER, Clifford - A resident of Chatham formerly of Raleigh Township, Clifford Civalier passed away at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance-Chatham Campus peacefully with his four daughters by his side on February 24, 2008 at the age of 74. Born in Raleigh Township to the late Garnet & Bertha Civalier. Loving husband of 47 years to the late June Helen (nee Stokes) (2004). Loving father of Liz and Mike Pace and their son Kyle, Janice and Steve Stubitz and their sons Shawn and Jason, Laura and Mike Franklin and their daughters Nicole and Melissa, Pat and Roy Weaver and their children Chelsea and Hayden all of Chatham. Clifford will be dearly missed by his best friend and sister Ann Watson. CHARLAND, George Patrick - (May 15, 1937 - February 23, 3008) With the greatest dignity and respect, surrounded with the love of his family, George's life journey came to completion following a courageous three year battle with cancer. Beloved husband of Ruth of 20 years, cherished Dad of Mark and his wife Lisa, Marcel, Michael John, Maurice and his wife Elizabeth, Murray (predeceased), step-son Paul and his wife Erika, and Brian and his fiancée Amy. Loving brother of Leona, Therese, Eva, Roland, Emile and step-brother Bruce, predeceased by sister Pat and brother John. Fondly remembered by his grandchildren Marisa, Logan, Zzachry and Emilia. George retired from General Motors on March 4, 1996 following 31 years of service. He remained an active member of St. Joseph the Worker Parish and was a proud Fourth Degree Member of the Knights of Columbus Council 9989. He enjoyed working with wood and spent many quiet retirement hours in his workshop creating his own unique wooden masterpieces. George touched the hearts of all he met and will be sadly missed but never forgotten. ANGUS, Margaret B.A., LLD, CM - 1908 - 2008 A memorial celebration will be held at Memorial Hall, City Hall, Kingston on Wednesday, February 27th at 4:00 p.m. for Dr. Margaret Angus, who passed away peacefully on Friday, February 15, 2008, in her 100th year. She is survived by her daughter, Barbara Morgan (Owen) and her son, James Angus (Lorna), seven grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren. For 55 years, Dr. Angus (Peg to her friends) researched, lectured and wrote about Kingston history. She spearheaded architectural heritage initiatives, initiated the heritage clothing collection at Agnes Etherington Art Centre and documented local heritage through both factual and dramatic literature. Her most popular work, The Old Stones of Kingston, is one of several significant publications that documents Kingston's culture, architecture and heritage. She worked closely with the City of Kingston, Queen's, KGH, Agnes Etherington Art Centre and St. Lawrence College, and held leadership positions in provincial and national heritage societies. In 1992, she was recognized for her significant contributions and outstanding accomplishments by being awarded the Order of Canada. Clogg, Margaret W. "Polly" The passing of Margaret W. "Polly" (Brown) Clogg, of Fredericton, NB, wife of the late A. Gordon Clogg, occurred peacefully on Saturday, February 23, 2008 at Windsor Court. Born on October 15, 1917 she was a daughter of the late George W. and Margaret (Colburn) Brown. Polly graduated from UNB in 1936 and taught at several places in rural New Brunswick. She also was a substitute teacher in the Moncton area for many years. She was a member of St. John's United Church in Moncton and of St. Paul's United Church in Fredericton. Polly was an enthusiastic curler, winning the provincial title with her rink (Mrs. E.A. Willis, Mrs. D. Stratton, Mrs. R.B. DeWare) in 1955 and 1957. Polly is survived by one son, Arthur D. Clogg of Fredericton, NB; two daughters, Margaret J. Lane of Vancouver, BC, Joan E. (Ailya Rose) of San Diego, CA; Mr. and Mrs. D.S. Clogg of Moncton, NB; sister, Jean Phillips of Seattle, WA; cousins in New Brunswick and Newfoundland; friends in Moncton and Fredericton. Besides her husband and parents, Polly was predeceased by two brothers, Douglas W. Brown and George W. MCLAUGHLIN, KAY - Kathleen Agnes Mudge (Kay) McLaughlin died on February 24, 2008. She was 92. After a long life, well-lived, our Mother was and always will be loved for her joy, her inspiration, her faith, her relentless optimism and her unconditional love. Her darling, Maurice, our father, died in 1985. Since that time, she depended on and cherished her five daughters, one son, and their families, Anne Kathleen McLaughlin (GSIC), Mary McLaughlin, Margaret McLaughlin, Patricia McLaughlin, and her children, Matthew and Kate Vauthier, Kathy Fraumeni and her husband, John and their children, Colleen and her husband, Karl, Mary Kate, Christopher, and John Paul, and Ted McLaughlin and his wife, Wendy and their children, Tara, Jim, and Sean. She will be loved and missed by her New Brunswick family including her brother, Vincent and her sister, Madelon. Our Aunt Helen Brown, Mom's dear eldest sister died in 2004. Their children and grandchildren will miss and mourn their Aunt Kay. Mom attended Normal School in New Brunswick. Soon after, she married Maurice in 1940. His work took him from New Brunswick to several cities in Ontario, finally to London in 1967 where Mom returned to teaching, having raised her six children. Mom taught in a number of elementary Catholic Schools in London. She treasured her students, many of whom continued to visit her after she retired. Her love of children and their education led her to become a Trustee of the London Catholic School Board where she served three terms. Throughout her life she demonstrated leadership whenever and wherever she became involved. At Various times and places she served as President of the Catholic Women's League, the Rotary Anns and the PTA. In her latter years, she was the Southwestern Ontario Scribe for the International Harvester Retirees Newsletter, a labour of love she continued until age 90. She will be remembered by her friends as a woman full of laughter who was unstoppable at a Bridge game, never without an opinion, always armed with a good story, and famous for her hats. Friends will be welcomed by the family at Donohue Funeral Home, 362 Waterloo Street, at King Street, London, on Tuesday, February 26, 2008 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9pm. Father Michael Bechard will celebrate a funeral Mass of thanksgiving for our Mother's life at the Chapel, Windermere on the Mount, Richmond Street North at Windermere, on Wednesday, February 27, 2008 at 1pm, followed by interment at St. Peter's Cemetery. Cecile Gaudet 1930 - 2008 Cecile Gaudet, 77, of Dieppe, NB, passed away on Saturday, February 23rd, 2008 at the Saint-John Regional Hospital. Born in Chartersville, on November 21st, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Humphrey and the late Georgina (née: Lamontagne) LeBlanc. She worked at the Moncton Hospital Admitting department for several years and worked at Canadian Force Supply Depot, No. 5 (Dept. National Defence) until her retirement. She held several positions within Union Local 305 (President, Vice-President, Steward and on many committees). Mrs. Gaudet was one of the first to be chosen to attend Labor College in Ottawa, where she graduated with honors. Cecile enjoyed life to the fullest, having a passion for knitting, crocheting, reading and traveling. She took three long vacations in Europe, visiting several countries, her favorites destinations were: Lourdes (Paris), Rome (audience with the Pope), Australia, Switzerland and Germany. She also traveled the east coast from Moncton to Florida visiting New York, Atlantic City and Louisiana; across Canada to BC and down the west coast to Mexico. She also took many local bus tours. During these travels, she met many friends from all over the world and kept in touch with many "Pen Pals". Mrs. Gaudet spent many hours volunteering at both local hospitals and for 20 years she volunteered with the Canadian Red Cross receiving many citations. She was awarded the Air Canada "Golden Heart Award" for her work in the community. She was a leader for the "Jeannette" group in Memramcook, taught for "Laughbach Literacy" and Catechism to children in the St.-Anselme region. She was a member of the St. FX Alumni, the Canadian Labour Congress, the Club d'Age d'Or of La Hétrière, Pré-d'En-Haut, Notre-Dame-de-Grace, Dieppe and Notre-Dame-de-la-Paix, Ste Thérèse C.W.L. and a parishioner of St-Anselme Roman Catholic Church. Cecile is survived by her husband, Clovis Albert; two sons, Paul (Georgette) and Raymond (Jeannine), both of Memramcook; two sisters, Eva and Pauline; two brothers, Albert and J. Paul; three grandchildren, Phyllis (Alex), Daniel and Joline as well as several nieces and nephews and many friends. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her first husband, Henry Gaudet; two infants daughters; two sisters, Helen and Maria and also by three brothers, Leo, Alphonse and Jerry. LISTON, STACY DARRELL Stacy D. Liston of Mazerolle Settlement passed away on February 24, 2008 as the result of an automobile accident at Longs Creek, NB. Born at Fredericton in 1973, he was a son of Doreen (Mitchell) Liston and the late Darrell Liston. Stacy enjoyed hunting, fishing and 4-wheeling. He truly cherished and loved spending time with his son and family and he enjoyed his work at Medichair. HACKETT, ROSE CARMALITA - The death of Rose Hackett, wife of the late Herbert "Herbie" Hackett, occurred on February 23, 2008 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. She was born in Saint John on June 15, 1923 to the late John and Rose (O'Brien) Butler. Rose was a loving mother and was devoted to her family. She was a life-long member of the Catholic Women's League and Stella Maris Church. Rose is survived by her children, Judy Daigle (Roger), John (Kathy) and Linda Morais (Roland); daughter-in-law, Joyce Hackett; two brothers, Ron (Fran) and Vincent (Dawn); sister, Grace Sharpe (Arnold); six grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. DAY, FLORENCE T. - The death of Florence Day, formerly of Abbie Place, Saint John, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 22nd, 2008 at St. John and St. Stephen Nursing Home. She was born on May 11th, 1922 in Saint John to the late Charles Tilley and Salome Anne (McAfee) Maxwell. Florence worked as an accountant for Simonds Canada Saw Company, until her retirement. She was a member of Westfield Golf and Country Club, St. Marks United Church and the Carleton Choristers. Florence is survived by one sister, Ethel Phillips of Saint John and a niece and several nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Edward A. Day; three sisters, Hazel Sprague, Rachel MacDonald and Grace Russell and two brothers, Robert and Herbert Maxwell. BRIGGS, ALLISON RALPH "JOE" - Surrounded by his loving family, Allison Briggs of Welsford, NB passed away on Saturday, February 23rd, 2008 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. He was born on October 16th, 1919 in Gagetown, NB to the late Jacob and Ellen (Brown) Briggs. Joe worked at CFB Gagetown as a Storeman until his retirement in 1984. He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years Zelda; their two children, E. Jane (Chris) Byers and Ken Kelly both of Welsford, NB; two brothers, Bentley (Irene) and Fred (Yvonne) Briggs both of Gagetown; two sisters, Addie (Norman "Bozie") Donovan of Upper Gagetown and Betty Anderson of Nova Scotia and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Joe is predeceased by his infant son, Stephen Briggs; three brothers, Wilfred, Garnett and Woodford Briggs and three sisters, Edith Clayton, Violet Briggs and Hilda Laskey. At Joe's request there will be no public visitation or funeral service. Ruby H. Myers 1910 - 2008 The death of Ruby Helen Myers, widow of Dr. Ralph P. Myers, occurred at the Briarlea on Saturday, February 23, 2008. Born in Glasgow, Scotland on March 15, 1910, she was the daughter of the late Peter George Rendall Macinnes and Fanny Stewart Burns. She was a member of St. John's United Church. Community minded, Ruby was a canvasser for the Community Chest (later United Way) and served as a Director on the Budget Committee for a number of years. Other organizations also benefited from Ruby's interest in her community. She held the position of treasurer on the Provincial Board V.O.N. and served on the local board. Ruby was a founding member of the Moncton S.P.C.A. Inc. and for several years was their President. She was a Director of the Provincial S.P.C.A. Ruby was a member of the Fort Monckton Chapter I.O.D.E. and over the years held every office, including Regent. Her favourite office was that of Education Secretary, as it gave her an opportunity to visit many schools in the area. Her chapter awarded her the Primary Life Membership in 1979. The International College of Surgeons, Women's Auxiliary Canadian Section elected Ruby to the position of Regent for Atlantic Canada, a position she held for ten years, giving it up when her husband retired. Curling was a sport Ruby thoroughly enjoyed. She was a Charter member of the Beaver Curling Club and served as President of the Lady Beavers. She is survived by her son, Ian of Shediac Bridge; a brother, George B. Macinnes of Seamill, West Kilbride, Scotland; a cousin, Mrs. Margeret Menzies of Leslieville, Alberta; and by nieces and nephews in Nova Scotia, Ontario and Scotland. Ruby was predeceased by her sister, Irene; and her brother, Hamish. Cremation has taken place. Visitation is at Tuttle Brother's Funeral Home, 171 Lutz St. Moncton on Monday, February 25, 2008 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. The funeral service will be held at Tuttle Brother's Memorial Chapel on Tuesday, February 26, 2008 at 3:00 pm with Rev. Aaron Billard officiating. A reception will follow the service. DUFF, Elsie Margaret (nee Thaler) Peacefully in her home at Extendicare Starwood on Monday, February 25, 2008, in her 92nd year. Elsie embodied the values of kindness, hard-work and generosity; both in her private and public life. She was the cherished wife for 66 years of James J. Duff. Beloved mother of Larry (Helen), Joan (Ric Potter) and Margaret (Peter Higginson). She was a proud grandmother to Angus, Colin, Alex, Jamie, Dale, Ian, John, Fred and James and a great-grandmother to 5. Devoted twin sister of the late Edna (Littlejohn) and the late Mabel Thaler. Born in Alberta in 1916, Elsie came to Ottawa with her husband in 1942. She was a dedicated volunteer throughout her life including service at the Ottawa Civic Hospital, the Granite Curling Club and the United Church of Canada. Elsie generously shared with others her love of baking and gardening. The family wishes to thank the dedicated staff at Extendicare Starwood for their care.
