Born December 30th, 1910 in Cork, Ireland. Came to Canada with his family on the S.S. Royal Edward in June 1912, 2 months after the sinking of the Titanic. Predeceased by his wife Lena and dear friend of Stella Gaffney. Loving father of Alanna (Ron Browne), Desmond and Catherine (John DeVries). Elle demeurait à Bouctouche depuis 25 ans, dans une résidence administrée par Le Phare des services communautaires inc., sa véritable famille. Née le 18 mars 1932, à Shédiac, et ayant malheureusement une déficience et des problèmes de santé, elle a été abandonnée en bas âge dans une institution durant près de 30 années. Nous n’avons jamais été en mesure d’identifier les membres de sa famille. Elle laisse dans le deuil tous les résidants et les résidantes et tout le personnel qui l’ont côtoyée, spécialement ses amies de la résidence Bouctouche 2: Diane Richard, Cécile Chevarie, Eva Daigle, Fernande Caissie, Irène Doucette, ainsi que toutes les employées de cette résidence. The people that have known Patsy will remember her for her good sense of humor, her gentleness, and her love of life. Patsy was a special needs person who was loved by all. BHEND, Pierre Alfred 10 December 1930 - 1 February 2008 Died peacefully from lymphoma at his residence in Ottawa. He was born in Nancy (France) and raised in France and Switzerland. Trained as a machinist, he was proud of his 30 years of service with Imperial Tobacco as well as his work for Frank Hasenfratz in the early days of Linamar. He was married to Sylvia (predeceased), father of Stan (Anne), Daniel, Dennis and Mark, and proud Grandpa of Alex and Camille. STEELE, Diane Theresa STEELE, Diane Theresa - 56, North Preston, passed away peacefully in Dartmouth General Hospital accompanied by her loving son and his companion on February 5, 2008. Born in Sydney, Cape Breton and raised in North Preston (since nine months), she was the biological daughter of Rita Steele and the late Wilfred Steele. Her mother, the late Irene Beals, and father, William Beals, of North Preston, raised Diane in a loving home. Upon the death of her loving mother (Irene Beals), Diane adopted three special mothers, Rosella Fraser, Josephine and Ruth Johnson. Diane is survived by her son, Otis Steele, and her granddaughter, Raemiah Dorrington; sisters, Marion Bundy, Irene St. Jean, Sudbury, Ont.; Josephine Smith, North Preston, and Jocelyn Downey, Toronto, Ont.; Darlene, Cape Breton; brothers, Allan, Toronto, Ont.; Roland, East Preston; Archie, North Preston; Eric, Toronto, Ont. She predeceased by her biological father, Wilfred Steele, and parents, William and Irene Beals; sisters, Elsie Sparks, Ellen Luchi, and Edna Beals; brothers, Reggie, Eddie, Lewis, Clifford, Lloyd and Percy Beals. Diane was a member of Saint Thomas Baptist Church. She had strong faith in God and lived her life to please God. She was full of life and was always concerned about others. Her kindheartedness and words of encouragement, grounded in biblical principle, were synonymous with her name. Diane was employed at the North Preston Wellness Centre - Capital Heath District as an administrative assistant. She worked at QEII Heath Sciences Centre for 27 years. She was past secretary of North Preston Day Care Centre. She was also a past board member of the North Preston Day Care Centre, the Medical Child Care Society, and Preston Area Housing Board. She was the past president of the Provincial (BYF) Baptist Youth Fellowship, African United Baptist Association District No. 1 Quarterly Chairperson, co-organizer of the Nurture Group, and a member of the North Preston Wellness Advisory Committee. A woman who walked in the light and was grounded in the word of God, she will be forever loved and sadly missed by her family and friends. The funeral service will be held February 9, at 1 p.m. in Saint Thomas Baptist Church, Pastor Wallace Smith officiating. Funeral arrangements will be made by A.L. Mattatall Funeral Home, Portland Street, Dartmouth. In lieu of flowers, donations are to be made to St. Thomas Baptist Church Sunday School or the Baptist Youth Fellowship. FLECKNELL, NEIL P. - The death of Neil P. Flecknell of Bloomfield, husband of Ruby (Bizzo) Flecknell occurred February 7th, 2008 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. He was born in Derbyshire, England, son of the late Hedley and Ellen (Boylan) Flecknell. Neil was a resident of Bloomfield since 1966. He was a veteran of WWII and the Korean Conflict. He served with the Royal Canadian Navy for thirty five years as a Submariner. He was a member of Hampton Branch No. 28, Royal Canadian Legion. He is survived by his wife, Ruby; two sons, Robert Flecknell (Doris), Bloomfield and Kenneth Flecknell (Judy), Perry Point; one sister, Anne Melanson, Saint John; one brother, Matthew Flecknell (Mavis), Saint John; four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, his twin Vesey and Hedley Jr; and one sister, Judy Lambert. Resting at Reid's Funeral Home (832-5541), 1063 Main Street, Hampton, with visitation on Friday from 2 pm to 8 pm. Vigil prayers will take place on Friday at 7:00 pm at the funeral home. BELYEA, LAURENCE DOUGLAS - The death of Laurence Douglas Belyea of Apohaqui, formerly of Midland, occurred at Sussex Health Centre, on February 6th, 2008. Born at Wickham, NB on August 16th, 1917, he was the son of the late Gilbert and Zillah (MacAlpine) Belyea. He is survived by his wife Muriel (Patterson) Belyea; one brother, George and his wife Doreen of Wickham; one sister, Muriel Davis of Berwick; and several nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by three brothers, Ronald, Ernest and Ervine; three sisters, Ida Belyea, Ella DeWitt and Verna Mersereau. Kenneth Dunham Kenneth Linden Dunham, 65, of Havelock passed away Thursday, February 7th, 2008 at the Dr. Georges Dumont Hospital. Born in Havelock, he was the son of the late Samuel and Lillian (Kennerson) Dunham. Together with his wife, they owned and operated the Wishing Well Convenience and Wilson's Gas Bar in Havelock. Survived by his loving wife, Glenda (Pugsley); their daughter, Barbara Duncan (Ed) of Havelock and his children, April Dunham of Moncton and Clay Dunham of Toronto; grandchildren, Scott, Samuel, Crystal, Bertha and Jason and great-grandchildren; brothers, Sydney and John; sisters, Louise Bannister, Winnifred Ricker and Barbara McCordic and several nieces and nephews. CARR, DAVID DOUGLAS David Douglas Carr passed away peacefully on January 22, 2008 at Vernon Jubilee Hospital in Vernon, BC after a six month battle with lung cancer. Predeceased by his parents: Harold Francis Herbert Carr and Edna Elizabeth Carr (Currier) of Oromocto, New Brunswick and nephew Geoffrey Carr. He will be sadly missed by his wife Leona, children: Beverly (David), Patricia (Henry), Michael (Krissy), Linda; grandchildren: Tanis (Jeremy), Chantel (Travis), Christopher, Meghan Matthew (Brittany), Laura, Joslyn, Kelly, Stormy, Bryan; his brother Lowell (Mavis); and several great-grandchildren, aunts, nieces, and nephews. He was born on May 17, 1933 in Oromocto, New Brunswick. In his early years, he was a lumber truck driver and a member of the Canadian Navy where he traveled the world and earned his electrical ticket. In 1973, he moved his family to Mackenzie, British Columbia where he passed his love of the outdoors onto his family. Many weekends were spent camping, fishing, and hunting. He worked in the pulp mills of Mackenzie, BC as an electrician before retiring to McLeod Lake, BC and Lumby, BC. No service by request. MENZIES, MIRIAM IRENE (LOVELY) R.N. Born at Riverbank, N.B. on August 28, 1924 and passed away on February 7th 2008 at the DECH. She was the daughter of the late Frederick and Ella (Chase) Lovely and is the last surviving member of her family. Miriam was predeceased by her sisters, Pauline, (Harry) Fowler, Geraldine and brothers, Vaughan (Ester), Neil (Stella), Gordon (Ella), Lorne, Vernon, Perley and daughter-in-law, Debi (Allan). Miriam is survived by her loving husband, Laurie of nearly 60 years; children, Allan (Bridget) Menzies, Susan (Doug) Shippee and Cindy (Terry) Trask. Her grandchildren, Heather, Ian, Thomas and Lesleigh, great granddaughter, Ava and niece, Shirley (Carvel) Antworth. She attended Florenceville High School and upon graduation trained at the Victoria Public Hospital graduating as a registered nurse in 1946. In 1948 she married Laurie, the love of her life. Miriam practiced nursing for several years then joined the family business, A.R. Menzies & Sons Ltd. as their R.N. in 1965, retiring in 1987. Miriam was a charter member of the Capital Winter Club and became a competitive curler winning two provincial senior ladies titles. Many memorable summers were spent at the family cottage at Oromocto Lake. She also loved to play bridge- especially with her sister in law Wilma and nieces Jane and Melanie. Forty fives with her niece Shirley and husband Carvel was another favorite pastime that they played on a regular basis in later years. Visitation will be held at McAdam's Funeral Home on Sunday, February 10th, 2008 from 2:00pm - 4:00pm and 7:00pm - 9:00pm. At Miriam's request a private memorial service will be held the following day. Internment to follow at a later date at the Rural Cemetery Extension. OBITUARY Charles Anthony "Tony" Myles 1935 - 2008 Tony left us far too soon, on Wednesday, February 6 after a brief stay at the Mount Sinai Hospital Centre. He was just short of his seventy-third birthday when the cancer he had been fighting for a year and a half proved a more formidable foe than a 75-foot downhill putt with a huge right break. He was a cherished husband and partner to Pat for more than forty-six years, a loving and supportive father to Stephanie and Brett for nearly that long, an exemplary father-in-law to Martin Phelan and Margaret Quinn, and an overjoyed grandfather to Deena Jessica Ann for not nearly long enough. Deena arrived just as Tony got the bad news, which proves that when a door closes, a window does indeed open. She was the biggest joy of his life; we all will make sure she knows who and what he was, and how much he cherished her. Tony was the baby brother of the huge Myles clan from Tide Head, New Brunswick, including Chrissie Olson of Edmonton and Jessie Groves of Chelmsford, Massachusetts. He was also a sportsman, a golfer, a businessman devoted to his customers during his long career as an insurance broker, and a loving friend to countless many. He never distinguished between king and common man and treated all with exactly the same respect. He also was one of the most genuinely clever and funny people any of us have been blessed to know. He was a man who enjoyed life to the fullest and never held a grudge, a spiritual man, a man who was a generation ahead of his time because he was unafraid to express his emotions, and he understood the keys to a successful marriage are equality, teamwork, great friendship and communication. He left with no regrets. He maximized, seeing the world, meeting people and living experiences that went far beyond the wildest dreams of his modest youth. And he was grateful for all of it. He wasn't perfect, but he was one of a kind, and will be missed every moment. The family's gratitude and thanks go to the superb team at the Royal Victoria Hospital's kidney transplant clinic, especially Ziba Aalamian, Dr. Douglas Keith and Sheryl Desmond. They helped give Tony several more years and several more adventures. Thanks also to Dr. Thierry Alcindor, Dr. Martin Chasen and Siobhan Carney from the Vic's oncology department, who made a difficult ordeal bearable with their genuine care and support. Funeral services will take place Monday, February 11 at 11 a.m. at Collins Clarke MacGillivray White at 5610 Sherbrooke St. West, N.D.G., with visitation Sunday, February 10 from 2 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Reception to follow at the Montreal West Curling Club, where we will celebrate a life truly well lived. BOYD, Mary Margaret (nee Shields) It is with profound sadness that we share the news of the passing of Mary Margaret Boyd, who died peacefully at her home in Vancouver, on January 28, 2008, at the age of 64 years. Mary Margaret was the beloved wife of David, dear mother of Deborah Kieselbach, Paul (deceased) and Kathryn, and proud grandmother of Paige and Grayson. Mary Margaret trained as a nurse at the Ottawa Civic Hospital (class of 1964), and practiced for over 30 years at B.C. Women's (formerly Grace) Hospital in Vancouver. HOURIGAN, William Eugene B.A., LLB Q.C. - It is with sadness that we announce the death of a loving husband, father and grandfather. William died in Burlington on February 7, 2008 at the age of 83. He is survived by his wife of 57 years Teresa and his children Sean and Jan Hourigan, Michele and Joe Agostino, Denyse and Doug Serre, Anne-Marie and Geoffrey Shaw, Lisa and Blake Papsin, Kelly Hourigan, Danielle Hourigan, William and Mairi Hourigan, and Jacqueline Hourigan and Andrew Fenton. Left to remember him are the pride of his life, his grandchildren, Renée, Greg, Carly, Katie and Jason, Ashley, Dan and Tim, Brack and Tanner, Brooke, Cullen, Brigid, Emily and Isaac, Jeremy and Maddison , Abby and Jack and Spencer. Also left to mourn are his brother- in-law John Benoit and his sisters-in-law Rose Benoit, Mary Hourigan and Barb Hourigan. He was predeceased by his son Danny (1963) and his granddaughter, Alexandra (1994), as well as, his brothers Gerald, James, Joseph and Jack and his sister, Marion Colley. Bill was born in Hamilton in 1925 the son of William and Emily Cullen Hourigan. He attended Cathedral High School and upon graduation served in the RCAF in Canada, England and Germany from 1943-1946. On his return from the Air Force, he entered St Michael's College, University of Toronto, graduating in 1948. In 1951, he received his LLB from Osgoode Hall, was appointed Q.C. in 1961 and practiced law in Burlington. He served as Councillor and as Reeve for the Town of Burlington and was a founding Board Member of Joseph Brant Memorial Hospital and the Burlington Braves Football Club. Bill also served for a number of years on the Halton Regional Police Commission and was a member of the Burlington Rotary Club. FIDGEON, Rodney Martin 1929 - 2008 Rodney Fidgeon of High River passed away at the Rockyview Hospital on February 5, 2008 at the age of 78 years.
