Elle était aussi la belles-soeur: d'Aldéa (feu Gérard), Blanche, feu Laurier (Thérêse), feu Robert, feu Léona. Eddy (Hélène), Claudette (Gaston), Armand (Jackie), Doris et Rhéa Côté. Elle laisse plusieurs oncles et tantes, cousines et cousins, neveux et nièces et ami(e)s. Selon la volonté de Mme Felteau, il y a eu incinération. Il y aura une prière d'Adieux et inhumation au cimetière Saint-Michel de Sherbrooke, le 28 avril 2008, le jour de son 70 ième anniversaire de naissance. MacDONALD, Sylvester - Mr. Sylvester MacDonald passed away peacefully at home in his 81st year, surrounded by his family on Sunday February 3, 2008. DRYDEN, Althea 1914 - 2008 Althea Dryden was born in Viscount, Saskatchewan and at an early age moved with her family to Saskatoon where she spent much of her life. Althea was one of ten children and was predeceased by sisters Helen and Audrey, brothers Virgil, Arlyn, Glen, and Hilary, her husband Ian, and stepdaughter Kay. She is survived by sisters Shirley, Muriel and Janice all of B.C., many nieces and nephews, two stepsons and five step-grandchildren. Although Althea's early formal education ended in grade eight, she was determined to become a research microbiologist. She worked during the day, attended night courses and completed high school. She then enrolled in the University of Toronto, where she was the only female veterinary student. By working and earning scholarships she supported herself through her university years. In 1947 she graduated near the top of her class, earning her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine with a major in Microbiology. In 1950, she received a Research Fellowship from the Canadian National Research Council to carry out postgraduate studies. Some of these studies were carried out at the Rocky Mountain Laboratory, U.S. Public Health Service, Hamilton, Montana. After which, she went to the Virus and Rickettsial Laboratory, Berkeley, California. Later, she was invited to be a guest at the Communicable Disease Center in Atlanta, Georgia. Her studies with the U.S. Public Health Service earned her a specialization in Virology. She used this specialization in her research at the University of Saskatchewan where she was involved in the study of Diseases in Nature Communicable to Man (principally Encephalitis). After her retirement and the death of her husband in 1978, Althea moved to Calgary where she made many friends, enjoyed her hobbies of painting and bowling, and found fellowship at Bethel Baptist Church. The family extends a special thanks to Johanna Cupido, whose kindness and friendship Althea greatly appreciated, and to the wonderful and caring staff at The Harbours of Newport, where Althea resided for the last two years. GERHART, Muriel (nee Hadley) May 31, 1918 - January 28, 2008 Muriel Gerhart of Calgary, passed away on Monday, January 28, 2008 at the age of 89 years. She was born in Toronto and raised in Buffalo. As a young girl she moved back to Toronto and lived most of the rest of her life in southern Ontario. After Toronto, there was Clarkson in southwest Mississauga and then Parry Sound. In her last years, when her ability to care for herself diminished, she moved to Calgary to be near her children. Muriel was a wonderful singer and that showed in everything she did. Whether she was actually singing, on stage, in a recital or in church, or looking after a sibling or an aged parent, making a place for her own family to grow, running a business, contributing to her community, or dealing with the limitations that old age finally brought to her, she found the music and sang it into whatever came her way. We will miss her so much, but her music stays with us. Muriel is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Rhonde and Richard LeSueur, and their two children Jamie and Philip of Calgary; by son and daughter-in-law, Paul and Mary Ann and their two children Meghan and David of Lethbridge; and by her brother Bernard Hadley of Parry Sound, Ontario. She was predeceased by her husband Gene, brothers Stan and Ray, father Albert and mother Mabel. A Private Family Memorial will be held at a later date. HALL, Harold James 1910 - 2008 Mr. Harold James Hall passed away peacefully at the Red Deer Hospice on Friday, February 1, 2008 at the age of 97 years. Harold taught school in Oyen and later became the Superintendent of Schools for the Rocky Mountain House Division and the Red Deer County. He is survived by his devoted wife of seventy-one years Doris (Dolly), who was always by his side, his four children Donna (Gordon), Lois, Leonard (Sally), Linda (Rick), nine grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren. HENGST, Richard - December 28, 1939 - February 3, 2008 It is with heartfelt sadness that the family of Richard Hengst announce his passing at the Foothills Hospital surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with cancer at the age of 68. Those of us left to celebrate his life include, Janet, his wife of forty-three years; daughters Lisa (Cliff) Zimmer, Sheryl (Ron) Mantei, son Kevin (Arly) Hengst; grandchildren Cory, McKenzie, Janelle, Kyle, Chelsea, Olivia and Diego. Richard was born to William and Janette Hengst in the Netherlands. Richard is survived by brothers John, Bill, Dick and sister Sylvia and numerous nieces and nephews. Richard worked for the City of Calgary Transit Department for thirty-seven years. Richard enjoyed the country life. He loved restoring tractors and tinkering in his garage. Richard loved boating, snowmobiling, auctions and spending time with family. QUINN, Terry Patrick July 18, 1973 - February 2, 2008 Terry Patrick Quinn of Calgary, passed away suddenly on February 2, 2008 at the age of 34. Terry was born and raised in Calgary and graduated from Van Horne High School in 1993. Terry was an outdoorsman who enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting and boating. Terry had an affinity to wolves. Terry will be sadly missed by his mother Shirley Quinn of Calgary; sister Tracy Quinn of Calgary; brother Clayton Dalton and wife Rena of Salmon Arm, B.C. and numerous other relatives and friends. She was born on May 12, 1926 in the Rose Valley district at Killarney, MB. Marian was a willing volunteer in her church and community. She retired from the Calgary Board of Education in 1982. Besides her loving husband, Roy, she is survived by her son Jim (Terri) of Mission, BC; her daughter Joan (Marc) Lee of Calgary; her granddaughters, Autumn (Alex) White and Clover Scott both of Vancouver, BC; her four grandchildren in Calgary, Aaron, Tamara, Jeff, and Andrea Lee; and her great-granddaughter Ocea. SILVESTER, W. Harold, Ph.D, C.A., C.P.A. August 17, 1926 - January 31, 2008 Husband, father, grandfather, friend, accountant and educator, Harold devoted his life to the service of others. He had the unique ability to communicate kindness and genuine concern - he will be missed. Harold is survived by his loving wife of fifty-seven years, Viola (Mitchell), son Dan (Karen), two daughters Dianne (Jay), and Susan (Terry), seven grandchildren and a great-granddaughter. He also leaves three brothers (Ken, Ramon, and Walter), sister (Rita), numerous nieces and nephews and many friends. CHICOINE (nee Goodfellow), Phyllis Elizabeth 2008-02-05 Oct. 12, 1916 - Feb. 4, 2008 Phyllis E. Chicoine passed away peacefully after a short illness at Hogarth Riverview Manor on February 4, 2008. Phyllis was born on October 12, 1916 in Fort William, Ontario, the daughter of Annie and Harold Goodfellow. At a very young age she joined fitness classes at the YMCA and also acted as a volunteer teaching the younger children there. Following her talents she pursued a career in Physical Education after graduating from the Margaret Eaton School of Health and Physical Education in Toronto (as a gold medallist in 1938) She then taught in Edmonton at the YWCA for 3 years, The love of her life, Armand L. Chicoine, drove out to Edmonton and married her on June 2, 1941. They travelled back to Fort William (Thunder Bay) to live and start their family. Phyllis and Armand had 2 children, Armand Edward (Ted) and Pat (Gravelle). Phyllis had 4 grandsons. Ted (Carole) sons are Jason (Julie) and Jonathan (Jennifer). Pat (Rene Gravelle) sons are R. Darren and Gordon Gravelle. Phyllis was blessed with 4 great grandchildren, Brianne, Jaida, Sean and Joshua. Phyllis started the War Brides Club during World War II and a few years later started teaching Physical Education at Selkirk Collegiate and V.I. She taught there for 28 years retiring in 1982. Phyllis was a member of the Alpha Delta Kappa Nu Sorority, Retired Teacher Organization and a volunteer for the Red Cross, Cancer Society, Heart & Stroke, YM-YWCA, Herb Carroll Centre and was on the Board of Directors for the Founder‘s Museum and Pioneer Village which was founded by her brother Fred Goodfellow. She was also a member of the Amethyst Square Dance Club until she was 86 years old. Every summer once school was out Mom and the family would head to camp at Wild Goose Bay. She loved her camp and could often be found with a paint brush in hand improving the woodwork, out swimming in the lake or arranging a volleyball game at the park. Phyllis was predeceased by her father Harold Goodfellow in 1965, her mother Annie Goodfellow and husband Armand Chicoine in 1982 and her brother Frederick Goodfellow in 1999. As per Mom‘s wishes there will be no formal funeral service. Cremation will take place and a private internment will be held at a later date. BECOTTE, David Louis 2008-02-05 BECOTTE It is with great sadness that the family of David Louis Becotte announces his unexpected passing early Saturday, February 2nd, 2008 at his residence. Beloved husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle and friend. He was born to Olga and Louis Becotte on April 10th, 1939 in Port Arthur, Ontario. In his early years, he was a machinist at Dingwell‘s Machine Shop until deciding to join the family business of Thunder Bay Harbour Improvements Ltd., where he worked until deciding to “retire” several years ago. He was known in the community as a hardworking, honest business man who worked hands-on operating cranes, boom trucks, etc. He was a Mr. Fix-it Extraordinaire. He had a wonderful, dry sense of humour and could find humour in almost any situation. Dave spent many happy years at his camp at Clover Beach and was known for building unique fire pits, one of which was built completely out of wood. He was a member of the Lakehead Antique Car Club and could often be seen cruising in his 64 Ford Convertible or his 52 Chevy Bel Air. He recently acquired a Harley-Davidson which had been his dream for some 40 years. His greatest joy was his three grandchildren Andrew, Mathew and Travis. He had a soft spot for all animals and for anyone in need. Dave was an avid cribbage player and rarely missed his Friday afternoon games with his Mom. Even after “retirement” he arose early each morning to meet with his breakfast buddies where they would discuss the problems of the world. Dave was predeceased by his Father Louis; grandparents Eva and Adolph Zurick and Ella and Paul Becotte and by nephew Dan Bottos. He will be lovingly remembered by his mother Olga Becotte; his life-time partner and wife Anne; son Christopher (Merja) and daughter Jennifer (Jeff) Trush; grandchildren Andrew Becotte, Mathew Becotte and Travis Trush; sister Diane (Don) Bottos; mother-in-law Mabel Haywood and several sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, as well as many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; aunts and cousins. He will also be missed by life-long friends Donnie McKinnon and John Hunnicutt. MEDLEY, Kathleen Marie - In loving memory of Kathleen Marie Medley (nee Clough-Ormiston) who died Saturday morning, February 2, 2008 in Oakville. She was born on August 6, 1921 to Frank and Marjorie (nee Tester) Clough-Ormiston, in Pembroke, Ontario and was the older sister to the late Dr. Michael Ormiston. During her childhood, she spent time in Ontario, Indiana and Kentucky before attending school in England. She graduated from Ashford School and earned a full scholarship to King's College in London where she received her B.Sc. in Geography and Physics as well as her A.K.C. She attended university during WWII enduring the Blitz in London, and she volunteered for the Auxiliary Territorial Service and drove an ambulance in London in 1943. After the war, she lived in Paris before returning to Canada. Marie enjoyed the North and often recalled fondly her experiences teaching north of Kapuskasing in Smokey Falls, Ontario in a one-room schoolhouse in 1947. In 1948 she married Graham B. Medley in Toronto and in 1952 they moved to Onaping, Ontario where they raised their 6 children John, Michael, Virginia, Andrew, and twins Quintus and Marjorie alongside other early residents who, in sharing this adventure became lifelong friends. She later described this time in Onaping as the happiest years of her life. Marie greatly enjoyed being a supply teacher at Levack District High School in the 60's and 70's and at Sudbury Secondary and Lo-Ellen Park in the 80's. She loved the arts, especially classical music and live theatre and she was a long-time supporter of the Sudbury Theatre Centre. She also served on the Onaping Falls Library Board and was instrumental in establishing a library branch in Dowling. Marie died after a long and courageous battle with Parkinson's disease and is survived by her children, 9 grandchildren, and 5 nieces and nephews. SAMSON, Douglas Elliott 1922 - 2008 Passed away suddenly at Royal Jubilee Hospital in Victoria, BC on Thursday, January 31, 2008, in his 86th year. Douglas spent his time between his home in Ottawa and Victoria. He served in the Second World War and retired from the Navy as a Commander in 1973. Predeceased by his wife Else in 1988, his parents Ethel and Edgar Samson, brother Gordon and sister-in-law Joy Locke. Survived by brother Donald (Betty Anne) of Waterloo, brothers-in-law Jack Locke of Vancouver, Bud Moxon (Pauline) of Halifax, and six nieces and nephews. Sadly missed by Audrey Thurber of Victoria, loving companion and friend, her children and spouses, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Following his years in the Navy, Douglas was a consultant to the Department of Supply and Services, P.S. Ross and Partners, Intercon Consultants, Officer in Charge of the Naval Benevolent Fund, Auditor for the Royal Canadian Legion at Bells Corners. Following Doug's wishes, there will be no visitation or service. Burial will be in the Beechwood Cemetery, the National Military Cemetery of the Canadian Forces in Ottawa.
