BIGGAR, Andrew Burton, P. Eng. 1923 - 2008 Passed away peacefully, with his family present, in Ottawa, on January 26, 2008. Andrew is survived by Clara (Rogers), his wife of 56 years, his children: Michael (Christine), Allan, Andrea (Jim), Janet (Jim), his sisters: Evelyn and Ruby (Guy) and his eight grandchildren. Andrew was born in Sussex, N.B., youngest son of Walter Biggar and Louella Leiper, where he lived until enlisting with the R.C.A.F. in 1941. He met Clara during his war years as a flight engineer training R.A.F. pilots in Manitoba, and eventually returned to propose to her in 1952. After graduating as an electrical engineer from the University of New Brunswick in 1949, Andrew worked for Canadian International Power Co. in Venezuela until 1966. Upon returning to Montreal, he worked for Montreal Engineering Co., finishing out his professional career as a consulting engineer having travelled or worked on projects in over 50 countries. In retirement, Andrew volunteered his engineering experience with C.E.S.O. in Latin America. Andrew was an enthusiastic sailor, curler, skier and tennis player, who was always very generous and extremely supportive of all his family. As per his express wishes, no visitation or funeral service will be held. Donations to the Parkinson's Society or Queensway-Carleton Hospital Foundation would be appreciated. The family would like to express their thanks to the wonderful staff at both Carlingview Manor and Queensway-Carleton Hospital for the outstanding care provided to Andrew. BOURQUE, Donald Joseph Korean War Veteran Peacefully, at the Perley and Rideau Veterans Health Centre, on Sunday, January 27, 2008 at the age of 78. Left to mourn is his devoted wife of 53 years Thelma (nee Abbass); his loving children Stephen, Keith (Alexandra) and Kelly; much loved grandchildren Caroline, Marianne and Rebecca; devoted sisters Beatrice (Clyde) MacTavish and Margaret (Ivan) Johnson as well as nieces and nephews. Don enlisted in 1949 and retired in 1976 having served on the HMCS Bonaventure, Kootenay, Huron, and Iroquois along with other vessels. After retiring from the Navy he continued to help people as a commissionaire and became involved with the St. John's Ambulance. Athletic and active Don had a passion for cycling. He was also a creative writer of short stories and poetry. Friends are invited to visit at Kelly Funeral Home, 1255 Walkley Road on Thursday, January 31st, 2008 between 5 pm and 8 pm. Our thanks to all the nurses, doctors and caregivers of the Ottawa 2 East Wing of the Perley and Rideau Veterans Health Centre for all their compassion, warmth and caring. BRADLEY, Mary Irene Irene Bradley went to her eternal home on January 29th, 2008 in her 93rd year at the Renfrew Victoria Hospital. She was the wife of the late Philip Bradley (1970) and the daughter of the late Bridget and Matthew O'Brien. Much loved Foster Mom of Joe Bell (Kathleen), Rhael Bell (Julie), the late Andy Bell (1999) (Dorothy), Michael Etmanski (Mary), and Winnie Pasco (nee Etmanski). Cherished Gramma of Nicole (Adrian Webb), Christopher, Tania (Steve Theodorakopoulos) and seven Great-Grandchildren. She was the sister of the late Rev. J. Kenneth O'Brien Sr., Stella Sullivan, Viola Connolly, Muriel Therien, Justina Davidson, Anita Varrin and survived by Hillard, Clifford, Gladys Hogan, Alexis Valiquette and Everett. She will be sadly missed by many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held at the Laundry Funeral Home, Eganville, on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated in St. Joseph's Church, Esmonde on Friday, February 1st at 11 a.m. Spring Interment in St. Joseph's Cemetery. MATHUR, Girish Prasad Girish Prasad Mathur, affectionately known by his children as Papa, and his grandchildren as Babaji/Nana passed away early in the morning on January 29, 2008. Babaji was loved very much by all and especially by his wife, the late Mithilesh Kumari Mathur. A life long Foreign Service Officer in the Indian Civil Service, Babaji's distinguished career took him around the world and saw him posted in India, America, Germany, Lebanon, Canada, Pakistan and back. Mr. Mathur opened and established the Indian Trade Commission/Consulate General in Vancouver and was the Regional Passport Officer, New Delhi at the time when many Indo-Canadians applied for passports to come to Canada. While Ottawa was home to Babaji for several years, his international reach continued with family in Asia, India and the U.S. Babaji leaves behind three sons, Vishnu Sahay, Krishna Sahay, and Arvind Sahay and their wives, Renuka, Indu and Neerja. As well, he is survived by his two daughters Sulekha Shrivastava and Suchitra Mathur who is married to Brigadier Mahesh Mathur. He will be missed by his grandchildren Ashish, Vikram, Nupur, who is married to Deepak Verma, Sidharth, who is engaged to Blakie Baber, Vaibhav, Manish, Gaurav, Shaleen and Pooja and he leaves behind two great-grandchildren, Ashni Verma and Arohi Verma. He will also be remembered by many friends and family throughout Canada and abroad. OBITUARY JAMES BARRY CONDY April 24, 1938 - January 27, 2008 Barry Condy passed away at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Montreal, Quebec after a brief and courageous battle with cancer on January 27, 2008 at the age of sixty-nine. Barry will be deeply missed by Louise "LouLou" (Fanson) his wife of twenty-eight years and his three children, Derek (Cindy and Joshua) of Winnipeg, MB, Cheryl (Doug) of Edgewater, BC and David of Winnipeg, MB; and predeceased by his parents, James and Vera and his sister Florence and survived by his sister Betty Pion. Barry will be sorely missed by his two life long friends and mates Jim Alexander and Robert (Bob) McFetridge. Born in Winnipeg, Barry was educated there and went on to work at Investors Group and then Great West Life for many years as a senior financial advisor to group pension funds across Canada. After a very successful career at both firms, Barry founded his own investment firm, Ethicor Financial in Montreal. He will be remembered fondly by colleagues across Canada for his dedication to the investment profession, his tenacity and his incisive judgement. In the mid 70's while visiting Bob on Lac Gagnon in the Laurentians north of Montreal, he saw an island there for sale, which he immediately fell in love with and bought. There, Barry and Louise spent many years enjoying their friends in the area, sailing, waterskiing, rafting and having evening fires during the summer. MACEACHERN, Barbara (Bobbie) Ellen (nee Power) Born at Little Harbour, P.E.I., on September 23, 1910, she passed away peacefully in Montreal on January 25, 2008, at the age of 97. She moved to Montreal and married Charles (Mac) of Souris, P.E.I., and was a resident of Crawford Park for more than 60 years. PILLEY, Kenneth 2008-01-30 Mr. Kenneth Pilley, age 89 years, of Thunder Bay passed away peacefully in St. Joseph‘s Care Group, Hospice Unit on Tuesday, January 29th, 2008. He was born on December 5th, 1918. Ken was a member of the Autumnwood congregation of Jehovah‘s Witnesses in Thunder Bay, and was loved and respected for his faithfulness in all aspects of his life. He retired from Abitibi Provincial Paper in 1984, after 46 years of service. Ken is survived by his wife, Saini; step-children, the Alanders: Ari, Aimo, Arnold, Alvin, David and Arthur, Armi Swanson, Taina Van Damme, Seija Johnson, and his brother Ron (Phoebe). Numerous grandchildren; great grandchildren; nieces; nephews; and other relatives will also sorely miss him. He was predeceased by his parents, Frank and May Pilley. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 2nd at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah‘s Witnesses, 1034 Oliver Road. Born in Saint John on November 30, 1921, she was a daughter of the late Frank and Elizabeth (Watson) Hayes. Marion had been employed as a sales clerk at Simonds Co-op for several years. A loving wife, mother, grandmother and a friend to all who knew her. Survived by her husband of 57 years, Charles; a son, Stephen Rae of Saint John; two daughters, Jane Rae (Jim Hanley) of Saint John and Beverly (Hedley) Pearson of Fort McMurray; four grandchildren, Jaime Pearson (Shawn Trites), Shawna Pearson (Steve Anderson), Stevie Rae and Haylee Rae; one great-grandson, Jagger Trites. Predeceased by two brothers, Fran and Al and two sisters, Joan and Shirley. Marion was the last surviving member of her immediate family. IRVING, RAY - Irving passed away unexpectedly in his 74th year on Sunday, January 27, 2008 at the Miramichi Regional Hospital. Born in Chatham on June 6, 1934, he was son of the late Burton Irving and Kathleen Barry of Chatham. Ray was raised in Saint John and was educated at the former St. Vincent's High School. After graduation, he moved to Chatham to attend St. Thomas University and was also enrolled in the Canadian Officers' Training Corps (COTC). Ray was an employee of the former C.F.B. Chatham and most recently at the New Brunswick Community College-Miramichi Campus. He was a member of the 254 Miramichi RCAF Wing. Ray is survived by Lorain, his wife of 47 years; as well as his son, Greg (Shelley Miller), of Waterloo, Ontario, and daughter, Alana Hansen (Randy), of Miramichi. He also leaves behind four granddaughters, Bridget Irving, Alyssa Hansen, Ashlee Hansen, and Kelsey Hansen. Ray's three sisters, Betty MacDonald of Kanata, Ontario, Mary Dobbelsteyn (Joseph) of St. Catharine's, Ontario, and Joan Reuter (Norman) of Incline Village, Nevada also survive him as do a number of nieces and nephews. His brother John predeceased him. Visitation will be at Maher's Funeral Home, University Avenue, Miramichi on Tuesday evening from 7-9 p.m. and Wednesday from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be held Thursday morning at 11 a.m. at St. Michael's Basilica in Miramichi with Fr. John Keoughan officiating. Lorraine M. Whalen Lorraine M. Whalen, 82, of ProTem Health Services, Moncton, with her loving family by her side, passed away at her residence on Tuesday, January 29, 2008. Born in Moncton, she was the daughter of the late William and Zelica (Cormier) LeBlanc. Lorraine was a former desk clerk at the Peter Pan Motel and attended Holy Family Roman Catholic Church. She enjoyed playing piano, loved entertaining family and friends, making homemade bread, accompanied by a cup of tea for visitors, but first and foremost was the quality time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
