DEWAR, Arlyne Margaret December 2, 1919 - December 13, 2007 Arlyne Margaret Dewar (nee Tydeman), of Innisfail and formerly of Calgary, passed away on Thursday, December 13, 2007 at the age of 88 years. Arlyne was born on December 2, 1919 in Halkirk, AB. She resided in Calgary and Rimby for most of her adult life, before moving to Innisfail in 2006. Arlyne will be remembered by her son Grant Lowry (Jane) of Calgary and daughter Maureen Lowry of Red Deer; grandchildren Tammy Fleming, Doreen Rycar (Dale), and Victor Lowry (Janet); great-grandchildren Talyssa, Kateryna, Kyra, Christopher, Joseph, and Allison. She is also survived by her brother Art Tydeman and sister Joyce Wallebeck, as well as one niece and four nephews. Arlyne was predeceased by her parents John and Olive Tydeman. JONES, Stanley W. February 18, 1922 - December 4, 2007 President of Lomax Group Inc. and former Executive Director of the Canadian Association of Oilwell Drilling Contractors (CAODC) from 1975 to 1981. Stanley W. Jones passed away suddenly in the early evening of December 4, 2007. He is survived by his wife Janet, his daughters Genevieve (Mario) and Patricia, sons Mitchell and Terrill (Margaret), three grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. Stanley was a noble and dignified man. He relished challenges in work and in life, always rising to the occasion with zeal, courage, and tenacity. How fortunate he was to have remained vital and active in his career until the very last moment. For his family, the loss of Stanley is deeper than words can express: an irreplaceable husband, father, visionary, guide, and mentor. In accordance with Stanley's directives, no Service took place. LEAMAN, HAYDEN LEBARON - At the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital on Sunday December 16, 2007 Hayden LeBaron Leaman of Fredericton passed away at the age of 80. Born in Lords Cove, Deer Island, NB on June 16,1927 he was a son of the late Morton and Gertrude (Pendleton) Leaman. He graduated from Deer Island Consolidated School; NB Normal School, Fredericton; UNB Fredericton (BA &B Ed);Columbia University, New York (MA); University of Leeds, England (Diploma, English Studies); Universite Laval, Quebec (Diplome, Francais). Hayden was also a student at Mount Allison University (Canadian History); University of London, England (Beaverbrook Overseas Scholar); St. Thomas University, Fredericton (Spanish). He was a High School Teacher in NB at St. George, St. Andrews and Moncton; a High School Principal in NB at Back Bay-Letete, Lawrence Station, Dorchester & Port Elgin Regional; a Professor at New Brunswick Teachers College & UNB Fredericton (English and English Education); UNB Extension and English Language Programme; Mount Allison University Summer School (Educational Psychology); CIIDIR, Oaxaca, Mexico (English); a consultant for the NB Department of Education (Secondary English curriculum & Competence in English Testing); Honorary Research Associate, UNB (thesis reader & UNB-Mexico Relations); Executive Board Member: Canadian Council of Teachers of English. TULL, Ray January 27, 1924 - December 15, 2007 W. Ray Tull of Calgary, passed away peacefully, with his family at his side on Saturday, December 15, 2007 at the age of 83 years. Ray was born on January 27, 1924, on a farm near Prague, Oklahoma. He worked extremely hard all his life, first on the farm, and then on the oil rigs, which eventually brought him to Alberta in 1949. Ray went on to own and operate Canbridge Drilling Ltd. which he sold in 1970 when he formed Tull Exploration, and he retired completely in the late 1980's. His greatest joys in life were his family, golf, and curling. Upon retiring he continued his passion for golf and curling with the same vigor and total commitment that he spent on any endeavour that he pursued. Ray represented Alberta at the Canadian Curling Championships, three times at Seniors and five times at Masters, winning the Masters in 1988. Ray will be greatly missed by those at the Calgary Golf and Country Club, the Garrison Curling Club and various other curling clubs around Calgary. His family and friends can take comfort in knowing that he was curling "right to the end". Ray will be dearly missed by his loving wife Louise, of sixty-three years; his two daughters, Frances (Blake) Anderson and Jo Claire Dunsmore; his grandchildren Jay Anderson, Kimberley Dunsmore and Patrick (Tara) Dunsmore and by his precious great-granddaughter Lauren. He also leaves behind his sister Lena Mondichak of Richmond, VA; his brothers and sisters-in-law, Pete and LaVonne Tull of Prague, OK and James and Marge Tull of Mannford, OK; his brother-in-law Roy (Mary) Pospisil of Calgary, AB; his sister-in-law Mildred Miller of Lindsay, OK and by his many loving nieces and nephews. HEIMBECKER, Elizabeth (Betty) December 16, 2007 Betty Heimbecker, beloved wife of Grant C. Heimbecker of Calgary, passed away on Sunday, December 16, 2007. Betty was born and grew up in Montmartre, Saskatchewan and then worked for several years with an insurance company in Winnipeg. In 1953 she came to Calgary, obtained a secretarial job with an insurance company, met her future husband, raised her family and she has resided here ever since. Besides her loving husband Grant, Betty is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Mark of Port Moody, BC, by her son Rob of Vancouver, BC and by her two grandchildren, Connor and Kelsey. She will also be missed by her sister and brother-in-law, Marie and Laird Wilson of Regina, SK, brothers and sister-in-law, George and Mary Hrycak of Winnipeg, MB, Joe Hrycak of Regina, SK and by numerous nieces and nephews. TOLL, Charles Douglas “Doug“ - Passed away Friday December 14, 2007 at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance, Chatham Campus. Doug was born in Toronto 75 years ago to Ada (Farquharson) and Carmen Toll, (both predeceased). He is also predeceased by his wife Eleanor (Scoyne) Toll, 1995, and an infant son Donald Roy. He is survived by his two sons Brian Toll and his wife Michelle of Blenheim and Ian Toll and his wife Tammy also of Blenheim. Missing their grandfather are Renée, Allison, Nicholas, Rachel, Emily and Benjamin. Doug is also survived by his brother John Toll and his wife Glenda of Dunnville and by his brother-in-law Sam Scoyne and his wife Carolyn of Chatham. Doug and his family were pleased that he could enjoy the good companionship of Marion Pepper for a number of years. LAIDLER, Antonia (Lubey) 1937 - 2007 Antonia Laidler, beloved wife of Alan Laidler of Calgary, passed away peacefully at Foothills Medical Centre on December 16, 2007 at the age of 70 years. Antonia was predeceased by first husband Martin in 1973. She will be lovingly remembered by sons, Peter (Jennifer), Bill (Cathy); daughter Melissa (Jim); grandchildren Janine, Martin, Stephen, Wayne, Mika, Jax, Arulia; stepchildren, Cathryn (Danny), Wendy (Gary); step-grandchildren, Danielle (Brian), Angie, Chelsea, Amanda and Erin; sister Louise (Louis); as well as numerous relatives and friends. Antonia was born in Slovenia, being the youngest child of six. She immigrated to Canada in 1957 and shortly after met her first husband Martin Lubey, also of Slovenia. Together they raised three wonderful children. Antonia's love of family, travel, music, sewing, baking, dominoes, singing and dancing was well known to her family and friends. Antonia remarried the second love of her life Alan Laidler, wherein she experienced fourteen years of renewed love, numerous adventures and travel. For the past four years she has courageously battled Alzheimer's. The family would like to thank all the staff at Carewest Signal Point and the Foothills Emergency for the compassionate care that she received. Survived by his sister Edith Semple and predeceased by his brother George. Sam was a Veteran of WWII, serving with the Royal Canadian Navy. He worked for General Motors for 35 years before retiring in 1985. Sam was a member of St. John's Anglican Church, Thorold and the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 17, Thorold. Sam loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He was an avid sports fan and continued to Bowl with his Buddies every Thursday evening. BRANDER, Robert Conybeare September 20, 1920 - December 16, 2007 Passed peacefully in his sleep from a burst blood vessel just after midnight Sunday morning. The son of Alastair Ian Brander of Lossiemouth, Scotland, and Ethel Conybeare of Lethbridge, he was raised in Lethbridge, and studied engineering at the University of Alberta and McGill in Montreal. He served from 1939 to 1946 in the Canadian Army in England and Holland. After the war, he settled in Calgary and made a thirty-five-year career as a highway surveyor and resident construction engineer. It is not possible to cross southern Alberta in any direction without driving on highways constructed under his supervision. He married Mary Ellen Robb of Drumheller, Alberta, in 1948 and raised three sons, Jim, Bruce, and Roy. In retirement, he enthusiastically assisted them in the raising of his three granddaughters, Maria, Lauren, and Georgia, travelling often to Spain, where Jim and Maria resided, or hosting them on their visits to Calgary. He and his beloved wife, "Maisie", travelled yearly as "snowbirds" for twenty years to Mesa, Arizona, and greatly enjoyed the social and recreational life in their second home. After staying beside his wife through a prolonged fatal illness with leukemia in 2003, he again returned to winters in his happy second home in Mesa, where he was struck down by his final illness last November. He was also predeceased by his sister, Eildon Kondacks of Montreal, and is survived by his sons and granddaughters. ALEXANDER, Jennifer Carrie August 15, 1972 - December 2, 2007 With aching hearts and profound sadness Keith and Vanessa Alexander announce the passing of their daughter Jennifer, 35, in a car accident in New Jersey, December 1, 2007. Her husband Julio Bragado-Young, also a dancer at ABT, survived the accident with multiple injuries which may threaten his dancing career. They were married July 28, 2007, and were described as "ridiculously happy" together. Jen was born in Calgary, the sixth of our children. She moved with her family to Edmonton at age two where she attended schools through junior high, an excellent student. Jennifer wanted to be a ballet dancer from the time she saw a TV performance at age five. She progressed through each stage of learning with enthusiasm and determination, and as in life, she spread joy, wherever she was. Jen was such a blessing for her proud parents and family. As she progressed in ballet it became apparent she had potential at an early age. In several annual festivals in Edmonton she won gold medals and at age thirteen was awarded "dancer most likely to succeed" by an independent adjudicator. Jennifer succeeded beyond expectations as evidenced by her thirteen year career with American Ballet Theater, so many accolades from the ballet world, and the outpouring of love and respect from her colleagues at ABT in New York. Jennifer is survived by brother Rob Alexander (Diane) of Vancouver; Mark Alexander, Vancouver; Susan Alexander-Bowman (Jerry) of Kalamazoo, Michigan; Andrea Sehmel (Chris) of Olympia, Wash. Her brother Jonathan predeceased her in 2005. She is also survived by eight nieces and nephews: Michael and Sydney, Rachel and Lily, Cole and Kyle and Luke and John. A celebration of Jennifer's life will be held at 1:30 p.m. at First Alliance Church, 12345 - 40 Street S.E., Calgary, on Friday, January 4, 2008.
