SMITH, Ruth Marie Adored daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, Ruth left us Thursday, December 13th, 2007. Born on March 4th, 1934 in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia, Ruth is the first child of Anne (nee Nicholson) and Elias Smith. She married Gerry Robillard in 1956 and not long after Diane, Paul, and Joanne completed Ruth's family. Predeceased by her beloved daughter Diane Anson and her sister Caroline Milks. Left to celebrate Ruth's life are her mother Anne, sister Ruby Rading, Peter Armstrong (Ruth's soulmate of the past 24 years), son Paul Robillard (Jo-Anne), and her daughter and best friend Joanne Skof (Dave). Ruth will be deeply missed by her step-grandson, Matthew McDowell (Kate), and her great grandson Alexander Elias McDowell. Fondly remembered by her step-children Christopher Armstrong (Suzanne) and Isobel Armstrong. Our family will always remember the many fun family outings that the three Smith Girls planned and carried out with style and panache! TRETHEWEY, John Hilliard January 3, 1941 - December 8, 2007 Portrait of Lieutenant John Trethewey by Wendy Trethewey, 1962 Retired Infantry Major (The Canadian Guards, and after 1970, The Royal Canadian Regiment). While vacationing with his cherished wife Judit in Budapest Hungary, John died peacefully in his sleep on December 8th, the result of a heart attack. Following school in Toronto (Whitney Public and North Toronto Collegiate) and a Junior Forest Ranger job, John hitchhiked across Canada. He joined the Cdn. Officers Training Corps in 1958 at U of T. He chose Infantry (he liked the red beret) for his summer training at camps Borden and Petawawa. After attending OAC Guelph and Mount Allison in Sackville N.B. (History/English), John joined the regular army in 1962 as a Lieutenant. He served in Petawawa, Gagetown, Germany, Norway, Cyprus, Montreal (FLQ), Australia (Staff College, Queenscliff and the Jungle Training Centre, Canungra), London ON, Meaford, Suffield, RMC Kingston (honourary member of Class of '80), Halifax, Aldershot, and Ottawa. John was a varsity swimmer and water polo player and an avid canoeist. He enjoyed chess, poker, casino roulette, traveling to WWI battlefields and history. He was also a spectacular father, grandfather, husband and friend. He cherished time spent with family and his many close friends. Beloved husband of Judit (nee Csontos), son of Hilliard and Dell, loving father of Philip (Megan), Colin (Cyndi), Steve (Sarah). Fondly remembered by his first wife Wendy (nee Finch-Noyes, Phil and Col's Mum). Devoted Poppa to Carolina. Dear brother of Margaret Lewless, Uncle to David Slatter, and dear friend of everyone he spent time with. WEARY, Martin. Son of the late Clarence Weary and Lillian Martin, at the Brockville General Hospital on December 12, 2007, in his eighty-third year following a long ilness. He leaves his wife, Madelaine Grogan (nee Leblanc), his brother Bill (Katherine Gray) of Morin Heights, QC, his sister Barbara (Dave Cullen) of Kelowna, BC, many nieces and nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews. Martin served on Corvettes in the North Atlantic with Royal Canadian Navy during WWII. He has been a long time resident of the Laurentians and will be missed by his friends and family. A memorial service will be held at Trinity Church, Morin Heights at a date to be announced. Thanks to the caring team at the Garden Branch of the Brockville Hospital. BAIRD, DORIS M. - The death of Doris Baird occurred at the Fundy Nursing Home in Blacks Harbour on December 13th, 2007. Doris was born in St. Martins and was the daughter of the late George and Gwendolyn (Dyer) Bailey and wife of the late Edgar Baird. She is survived by one son, Norman Baird of New River and one daughter, Laurie Prefontaine of Quispamsis; six grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. Doris was predeceased by one son Len. Following cremation, a graveside service will be held at Forest Hills Cemetery in Fredericton at a later date. Marilyn Price 1934 - 2007 The death of Marilyn Price of Moncton occurred at the Moncton Hospital on Friday, December 7th, 2007. Born December 16th, 1934 in Moncton, she was the daughter of the late Clifford and Isobel (Steeves) Price. Marilyn is survived by her sister, Nancy Bulman (Bill); brothers, David (Jill) and Richard; as well as several nephews. Marilyn was predeceased by her parents and her brother, John. By request of the family, there will be no visitation or funeral service. A graveside service will be held in Elmwood Cemetery in the spring. The family would like to offer special thanks to Dr. Harper for his kindness and compassion for Marilyn; also to Noreen Hubley and all the staff at The Moncton Hospital who cared for Marilyn; as well to the "Teddy Bear Giver(s)", thank you. GILLIS, SHIRLEY A. (NEE: ROBERTS) Shirley passed away December 11, 2007 in Edmonton, AB, her home for many years. She and husband Don (deceased) raised their four children there. She also has four grandchildren in the area. The daughter of the late Myrtle (Sparks) and Idris Roberts, Shirley leaves behind her sisters, Marion Duke and Joyce (Frank) Rodgers; brothers, Horace (Ethel), David (Karen) and George (Dawn). Shirley found solace in playing the piano; also, listening to classical music. In her youth she sang with Miss Shorten's Choral Group and 'The York Singers'. And after moving to Edmonton she persued her love of music and was chosen to join 'The Richard Eaton Singers'; and later, 'The University Singers'. Shirley was also a talented artist. Regretfully Shirley suffered serious pain for a couple of years. Recently she had two major operations. She never lost her sense of humor. We will all miss her infectious laugh. Memorial service will be held at a later date. December 15, 2007

MOFFATT, Hazel Ruth June 5, 1909 - December 14, 2007 Peacefully at Longfields Manor, Hazel went to her heavenly home. Last surviving child of James Moffatt and Lucy Brown. Predeceased by her siblings Mabel (Albert Young), Walter (Willetta), Edgar, Chesley (Marion), Gladys (Victor Findlay), Luicanda, James (Mary), Doris (George Nussey) and Alley (Wilson Tracy). She will be missed by her many nieces and nephews. Hazel graduated from The Montreal General Hospital School of Nursing. She nursed in Chilliwack, BC, Smiths Falls and Ottawa and finished her career with The Ottawa Public School Board. Diane Watson-Deroy 1956-2007 In hospital at Angus, Ontario, December 15, 2007, Diane Watson-Deroy passed away suddenly at the age of 51 years. She was the wife of Eddy Deroy, formerly of Montreal. Born at Toronto in 1956, she was the daughter of Cedric Watson and Jeannine Soucy-Watson. Diane was originally from Grand Falls, New Brunswick. Diane worked at Borden Air Force Base at St-Joseph's and Trinity Chapels as an Administrative Assistant to the Base Chaplains and Padres for many years. She would have put in 25 years as a Federal Employee and she was to retire in 2 years. She was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother to her granddaughter Chloe Elizabeth Deroy-Blodgett who turned 1 year old last October 8th. She will be sadly missed by so many. She is survived by her husband Eddy Deroy (who is a retired military with 22 years service but continued to work as a teacher on Borden AFB as an ACS Aircraft Structure Technician), one daughter, Sara Lindsay Deroy and her partner, Nathan Blodgett and their daughter 1 year-old Chloe Elizabeth Deroy-Blodgett, Barrie, Ontario; her mother, Jeannine Soucy-Watson, Grand Falls; one brother, Steven Watson (partner Lorraine Goudreau), Grand Falls; sister-in-law, Solange Corbin-Watson, Saint-Leonard; brother-in-law, Pierre Tardie, Montreal; nieces: Cindy Watson, Toronto, Ontario, Sheri Watson, Grand Falls, step-niece, Sarah Pilgrim and one nephew, Jesse Shannon. Henry Emmerson Seaman Henry Emmerson Seaman, Brookland Street, Sydney, passed away Wednesday, December 12, 2007, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital after a brief illness. Born December 14, 1912, in Silver City, New Mexico, USA, to the late Job H. and Ruth R. (Trenholm) Seaman. Shortly after birth, Henry moved with his family to Amherst, NS, where he grew up and graduated from Cumberland County Academy. He then attended Acadia University, graduating with a Bachelor of Science (major Chemistry) in 1933. Upon graduation, he engaged in farming and lumbering in the Barronsfield and Minudie areas of Cumberland County. He served in the RCAF for the last three years of the Second World War, teaching calculus to the air crew for some of that time and later with Classified Security work in Ottawa. Upon discharge, he resumed farming and lumbering up until 1955 when he decided to find another occupation. He then spent several years with the Nova Scotia Department of Public Works, followed by other projects with an architectural firm in Halifax. His final employment was contract manager for Stott Corporation in Sydney, NS. He is survived by his son, J. William "Bill" (Doris), Moncton, NB; daughter, Ruth M. (Crampton H. "Dusty") Helms, Morrisotown, Tennessee, USA; son, Job A., Sydney, NS; grandchildren, Wayne (Carol) Seaman, Marilyn (Lorenzo) Seaman-Gri and Mark (Susan) Seaman, Debora (Anthony) Long, Crampton Jr. (Mary), Thomas (Lucy) and Patrick (Dena) Helms; and ten great-grandchildren. Besides his wife of over 62 years, Marjorie "Penny" (Morris) Seaman (1997), he was predeceased by his sister, Anne (Porter) (Blackett) in 1978 and brother, John T. in 2002. NAGATA, Jerry Masatoshi September 24, 1919 - December 13, 2007 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Jerry Nagata on Thursday, December 13, 2007 at the age of 88 years. Jerry was born in Sea Island, BC. After completing an apprenticeship in boat building, he moved to Ocean Falls, BC. In May 1942 the Nagata family was relocated to Welling, AB. Jerry married Toshiko Nakamura on April 2, 1949 in Lethbridge, AB. The young couple moved to Calgary in 1949 and settled in Rosscarrock. Jerry worked as a finishing carpenter for the Calgary Board of Education until his retirement in 1984. He then spent more of his time volunteering for various community and charitable organizations as he was always willing to lend a hand. Jerry was a founding member of Woodcliff United Church, the Calgary Japanese Language School, Kotobuki Seniors Society, and a long-time Elder of the Calgary Japanese United Church. Jerry will be lovingly remembered by his wife Toshiko; children, Wendy (Stan) Mahtoy, Warren (Rumiko), Les (Gloria), Alan, and Kim; grandchildren, Risa, Drew, Ayaka, Tetsuumi, and Marisa; sisters, Hisako Sameshima and Reiko (Ted) Mitsuishi; brother Roy (Luri); and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Sanshiro and Saye; sisters, Fumi (Itaro) Suziki and Yukiye (Kunichi) Fukumoto. WILSON, George Edward March 29, 1927 - December 13, 2007 George Edward Wilson, beloved husband of Audree of Calgary, passed away on Thursday, December 13, 2007 at the age of 80 years. George was born on March 29, 1927 in Calgary, a proud native Calgarian. He attended Central High School. He was a lifetime member of the Lions Club International, and helped form the Lions Eye Bank. He owned and operated Weir & Wilson Plumbing Co. Ltd. He loved to work with his hands and there was not anything that he could not fix. He was a Charter Member of the Bow Valley Good Sam as well as a member of the St. Mark's and St. Philip's Parish Anglican Church. George helped many charities and always volunteered to help make Calgary a better community. Besides his loving wife Audree, George is also survived by his daughters Susan (Dollard) O'Connor of Drayton Valley, AB, Nancy Wilson of Calgary, Carol Wilson (Dave Cocking) of Richmond, BC, and Patricia Irwin of Red Deer, AB; as well as his son Bill Wilson of Calgary. He will also be missed by his eight grandchildren Alan (Tanya), Ken (Dana), Sara, Amy (Adam), Christopher, Gregory, Stuart, and Brandon; and his two great-grandchildren, Jesse and Jennifer. LEBLANC, BERNICE JOAN - 74, Halifax, passed away on Thursday, December 13, 2007 at the QEII Health Sciences Centre. Born in Sussex, NB, she was the daughter of the late Otty and Grace Geldart. She was also predeceased by her husband, Roger LeBlanc and brother, Ralph Geldart. She was a loving mother and had a very large heart when it came to all of her friends. She was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Br. #156, Lakeside, and a life member of the Air Force Veteran's Club in Moncton, NB, as well as the Resolute Club in Halifax. She was a devout Catholic, and was a dedicated parishioner of St. Pius X Church in Fairview. She is survived by her loving companion, William McElroy; her sons, Phillip, BC, and Michael (Cathy), Newfoundland; her daughter, Tammy, Elmsdale; three grandchildren, Christopher, Amanda and Jennifer; brother, George (Anita)Geldart, BC; and sisters, Marilyn Legere (Jack), Moncton, Charlotte Bell (Lloyd), Sussex Corner, NB, and Ruby Swift (Keith), Brier Island, NS; as well as nieces, nephews and cousins. She will especially be missed by her very close friend, Mary Jane Snow.
