LAHEY, Tony Tony left our lives unexpectedly on Wednesday, December 12 in Chelsea, Quebec. Born on December 19, 1960, Tony gave generously of his wisdom, warmth and humour to his family, friends and all who knew him. Beloved husband of Donelda (Taylor) and proud and devoted father to Riannon and Gillian; loving son of Rita (McCoy) and Don (deceased); incomparable brother to Don (Yvonne Makosz), Sandy (Fred Armstrong), Lisa and Nicholas; and irresistible uncle to his many nieces and nephews. With life so rushed and courtesy elbowed by expedience, Tony always found time for a friendly word or to lend you his expert hand. Enthusiastic, caring and restlessly curious, Tony found constant excitement in life. He welcomed it with openness and shared it with great generosity. Builder, musician, architectural designer, craftsman, sailor, ingenious problem solver. And his family was the air he breathed. He will be sadly missed by us all and by his many friends and colleagues. LAROCQUE, Reginald "Reg" Robert Reg passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Thursday, December 13, 2007 at the age of 59 years. Reg is lovingly remembered by his wife Roberta and daughter Laura. He is also survived by his siblings Jimmy, Lynn, Cookie, Dale, Donny, Terry and Heather; aunts, uncles and cousins from the Ottawa Valley. Reg was predeceased by his grandparents Laura and Willard; mother Martha and birth father Rex Taylor. Reg will be greatly missed by the wrestlers he dedicated his life to coaching over the past twenty-eight years. Reg was known as "coach" to many, "Reggie" to others, but to most, simply "Reg". His passion for the sport of amateur wrestling started as a high school student under the leadership of Norm Sakamoto. He went on to be mentored by Gord Garvie and Victor Zilberman when he joined the Lakehead University Wrestling team while pursuing his B.Ph (Hon) and B.A. in English. In 1979 he made the switch from student to teacher and went on to coach at the University of Manitoba, University of Calgary and Mount Allison University before starting his own "Rebels Wrestling Club" of which he was so proud. Many a tournament has found Reg in the corner of many a wrestler. His raised eyebrows, booming voice and "ya ya" were trademarks of his craft along with his knowledge, integrity and intuitiveness. He was recently honoured for his contribution to the sport of wrestling by being inducted into the Builder's Section of the Canadian Amateur Wrestling Association Hall of Fame. He made many lifelong friendships, touched many lives and will be dearly missed. His wife and daughter would like to thank the doctors and nurses in the O.R. and Unit 52 at the Peter Lougheed Hospital and the staff and nurses at Chinook Hospice for everything. KNIGHT, Gary Norman William Gary Norman William Knight, age 69, passed away, surrounded by his family and friends on December 10, 2007, after a brief battle with cancer. Gary was born in Winnipeg, MB on July 30, 1938 and grew up in Winnipeg, Lethbridge and Calgary. He joined the Naval Reserve at a young age, and saw half the world before he was twenty. Gary attended Western Canada High School and the Alberta College of Art and Design. He enjoyed a successful career in the graphic arts field and was the Art Director at Nova Corp, until he retired in 1995. Gary is survived by his loving wife of fourteen years, Phyllis, as well as his sons, Ian and Kirk, and granddaughter Connie. WARD, Eleanor Yvonne - November 11, 1925-December 12, 2007 It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Eleanor Yvonne Ward (nee Jones) on Wednesday, December 12, 2007 at the age of 82 years. Eleanor was born in Alsask, Saskatchewan on November 11, 1925 and spent her childhood years on the family farm in Mantario, Saskatchewan. After graduation from high school, Eleanor attended the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon, where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1950. After graduation, Eleanor moved to Calgary and worked for several oil companies, including Velocity Surveys and Shell Oil, before her marriage to William "Bill" Ward in April of 1956. Eleanor devoted herself to her family, which settled in Ottawa in 1969 after many military postings. Bill retired in 1989, and Eleanor and Bill pursued their love of genealogy by making several trips to the United States to research the Jones family tree. In 2001, they moved to Calgary to be closer to their children and two new granddaughters. Eleanor is predeceased by Bill, her beloved husband of fifty one years, who passed away on May 26 of this year; her mother Edna (Klemmer) Jones, father Roy and stepmother Cora Jones, brother Ted and sister-in-law Alida Jones, granddaughter Angela Grace Ward and niece Sheila Anne Moore. Eleanor is survived by her children, David and Victoria (Panchuk) Ward of Calgary; Bill and Lindsay (Bean) Ward and their children Natalie and Hayley of Calgary; Jim and Diane (Ward) McNaughton and their children Andrew, Iain and Matthew of Belgium; Earl (daughter Brittany) and Marlaine (Ward) Hubbs of Calgary and sister Erva Woolliams of Calgary as well as extended family Doug Jones and his family and Elda, Shane, Carol and Monty. Eleanor will be remembered for her sharp intellect, poise and grace but above all, her tireless devotion to family. She will be greatly missed by her family, friends and neighbors. MATTHEWS, Edna Hjalmina (nee Moger) December 28, 1916 - December 13, 2007 Edna (Ronnie) Matthews was born on December 28, 1916 in Medicine Hat, Alberta. Ronnie was typical of so many of her generation, getting ahead due to her own hard work. She began her working life at the age of fifteen as a hired girl on a nearby farm. The great Depression brought her to Calgary. Here she met Tommy with whom she enjoyed entertaining friends and family. She continued to work after her marriage as a film inspector and revisor for the Motion Picture Film Industry. This career lasted thirty-one years until her retirement at age sixty-five. During her retirement she was able to pursue her passions: reading (frequently a book a day), playing cards and people watching. A trip to a nearby casino was rarely turned down. She enjoyed playing shuffleboard and bingo on a weekly basis with her friends and neighbours at Grace Lutheran Manor. Always quick with a joke or comment, she retained her razor sharp wit until the very end. Her humour and kindness will be missed. Edna is predeceased by her husband Thomas, parents Alvin and Leta Moger, her brothers Lloyd and Arthur and sister Donna Smart. Survived by her nieces Dale Nyegaard of Calgary, Donna (Bob) Baker of Cremona, Dewey (Jerry) Zimmerman of Calgary and her nephew Denver (Christine) Smart of Houston. She is also survived by her great-nieces Darlene Nyegaard-Enright, Kelsey Smart and Trudy Baker as well as her great-nephews Larry Nyegaard, Ken Baker and Terry Zimmerman. RUNCIMAN, Roderick "Rod" Allan Roderick "Rod" Allan Runciman of Calgary passed away on December 11, 2007, at the age of 71 years. KUHN, Edward August 16, 1945 - December 7, 2007 Edward Kuhn, beloved husband of Monica of Calgary, passed away after a courageous battle with cancer, in the early hours of Friday, December 7, 2007 at the age of 62 years. Born on August 16, 1945 in Fort Saskatchewan, AB, Ed was the youngest of four sons. His parents, Frank and Magdalena, were pioneer farmers from Yugoslavia who immigrated to Canada in 1929, with Ed's brothers John, Matt and Tony. University of Alberta Alumni, CMA and CGA, Edward's real passions were reading and the outdoors. He enjoyed nothing more than a good book and a long hike with his dog Bella. His humble and gentle nature touched all those that were fortunate enough to know him. Even during his sickness, he remained the quiet, strong and positive individual that defined him throughout his life. Despite knowing that his illness was beyond cure, Ed participated in numerous studies and underwent treatment in the hopes that his discomfort would benefit future cancer patients. Ed will continue to live in the memories and hearts of his loving wife and partner, Monica; children Teresa (Gian Marco) and Trevor (Maria); brothers John (Margaret) and Tony (Edna); grandchildren Tomas, Sarah and Marcus; as well as his numerous nieces, nephew, family and friends. Le samedi 15 décembre 2007, jour des funérailles, le salon sera ouvert à compter de 9 h et les funérailles auront lieu à 10 h au même endroit. Née à Saint-Honoré de Chicoutimi, Soeur Jeannine quitte en 1949 sa famille, demeurant à Chicoutimi-Nord pour se consacrer à Dieu dans la vie religieuse. Elle oeuvre dans l'éducation auprès des jeunes du primaire et du secondaire aux endroits suivants: L'Anse Saint-Jean, Saint-Paul-du Nord, Arvida, Portneuf-sur Mer, Lac-Bouchette. En 1977, elle prend la direction de l'Institut National de Caractérologie Inc. de Chicoutimi. En 2002, elle se retire à l'infirmerie, où elle continue dans la prière et la souffrance, la mission de la congrégation. Elle est la fille de feu dame Alice Girard et de feu Raoul Gaudreault, la soeur de feu Laurent (feu Juliette Fournier), Rachelle (feu Théo Bélanger), feu Germain (feu Élisabeth Bouchard), feu Rose-Marie, Élie-Marie (Micheline Bergeron), Reine (feu Gilles Legault). KELLY, James (Jim) Russell Sinclair May 2, 1925 - December 12, 2007 Dad passed away peacefully on December 12 at the Agape Hospice; very close to where he was born and grew up in Calgary. Dearly missing him always will be his wife of fifty-three years, Jean; his children, Erin (Creig), Jay (Nadia), Lori (Dave); and his grandchildren, Lisa (Crosby), Jay, Nicole, Shannon, Jordan, Zander; and his sisters, Irene Cummins and June Stephen. Dad was a native Calgarian and, after serving a few years in the Navy, he began his career on the Calgary Fire Department and then went on to spend many successful years in the Oil Patch. Dad enjoyed life to the fullest and we will be forever blessed to have many memories filled with lots of love and laughter. Dad was very much a "people person" and had many good friends which was especially evident on November 2, when Jim celebrated his life with his friends at the golf course where he spent many happy hours - the Earl Grey. Dad was able to say goodbye to his friends and enjoy a scotch with them one more time on the 19th Hole. We would like to thank Mom and Dad's friends for their visits and phone calls, Florin Mann from Palliative Home Care for his unwavering support, and Bev Snow from ComCare for her compassionate caregiving. Our family would also like to thank Dr. DeBruyn and the thoughtful staff at the Agape Hospice who genuinely cared for our Dad with dignity. We are so thankful that he was able to spend his last weeks in such a loving atmosphere. STEWART, George Ryan - P. Eng July 2, 1929 - December 12, 2007 Sadly, but peacefully, George passed away on Wednesday, December 12, 2007, after a courageous battle with cancer at the age of 78 years. George was an amazing man! He will forever be remembered as a very loving, kind, courageous and extremely smart man whom everyone loved. George was born in Innisfail, AB and he became a Professional Engineer, working for Imperial Oil for thirty-five years before retiring in 1987. George loved to be with his family and friends, travel, read, watch hockey and baseball; play bridge with his buddies either at his house or at the Royal Canadian Legion and he loved to sit by a campfire. George was also very dedicated to charitable donations, as he was always thinking of others. George, you will be missed so deeply but you have left us with many wonderful memories - thank you. George will be lovingly remembered by his family to whom he devoted his life: Sherry Parsons (Mike), Patti Dwyer (Bob), Paula Howe (Pete), Rob Stewart (Muriel), Deb Dever (Mike), Karen Herle (Darin), Shelley Steele (Doug) and Tania Baldwin (Mike), and his dear sister Mary (Carl). He also leaves behind his grandchildren Chris, Jeremy, Travis, Megan, Liz, John, Kody, Sarah, Madison, Cassidy, Alexa, Jared, Jack, Emma and Devon, as well as great-grandchildren. George leaves behind numerous other family members and friends whom he loved dearly. George has now joined his late wife Dorothy (his "L'il Darlin'") up in heaven. George was also predeceased by his parents Arthur and Kathleen, his brother James, sister-in-law Margaret and his nephew John. A Celebration of George's life will be held on Monday, December 17, 2007 from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. at Cooper Memorial Hall (7412 - 17 Avenue S.W.). NADEAU, Norman 1918 - 2007 À Ottawa, le 6 décembre 2007, est décédée, à l'âge de 89 ans, Mme Norma Nadeau. Elle laisse dans la tristesse ses soeurs Jhyrl et Nola, ses nièces Deirdre, Teresa, Maureen, Diane et Jocelyne, son neveu Dennis de même que plusieurs autres parents et amis. Mme Nadeau a oeuvré pendant une quarantaine d'année aux Affaires Etrangères ce qui l'a amenée à parler plusieurs langues et à découvrir plusieurs continents. MOAK, Allan Edward - Born January 15, 1946, accomplished artist and author. Allan died peacefully December 9, 2007 in St. Michael's Hospital, Toronto. Beloved son of Doreen and the late Edward Moak and survived by his sisters, Sylvia (Richard) and Pamela (Paul), a niece, nephews, great nieces and nephew and his cousin Wayne and aunt Marion. Allan was an artist. His work was shown in Toronto and Montreal. Pieces of his work were purchased by corporations. His children's book, A Big City ABC, was published for a second time. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends but will live on in our hearts. 10930336

KRENZLER, Evelyn Evelyn D. Krenzler (nee Heine) of Beiseker, AB passed away peacefully on Monday, December 10, 2007 at the age of 79 years. Evelyn was born July 16, 1928 at Acme, AB to Henry and Lydia Heine and was the youngest of five children. She was raised on the farm near Acme, then Dalroy. She married Jacob Krenzler in 1949 and moved to the Kroschel Farm and then to Beiseker. Evelyn is survived by her son Jack (Christine), their sons Michael and Warren, as well as one brother Ruben and Ester Heine and numerous nieces and nephews. Evelyn was predeceased by her husband Jacob on August 9, 2005 and her brothers Dan, Art and Albert. A Celebration of the lives of Evelyn and Jacob will be held at Beiseker Community Centre, Beiseker, Alberta on Friday, December 21, 2007 at 12:00 noon. RANAGHAN, Richard (Dick) 1931 - 2007 Richard (Dick) James Ranaghan left us to be with the Lord on December 11, 2007 after a lengthy illness. He leaves his beloved family Jean, Peter, Andrea, Jaelyn and Maureen as well as relatives in the United States and Ireland. Dick was a member of the F.G.B.M.F.I. (Full Gospel Business Mens Fellowship International) and participated in several world outreaches as well as fulfilling a boyhood dream to travel the world extensively. Dick retired after a successful career as an insurance broker of forty years and his beloved son Peter has also pursued the insurance business, carrying on the family tradition going back to 1931. He supported and enjoyed music, opera and other cultural activities as well as being an avid outdoorsman. Luella was born in Brockville, ON and she attended high school in Hamilton, ON. She worked as a legal secretary in Ontario and Alberta. REVER, Diane Georgina (Kowalchuk) July 18, 1946 - December 13, 2007 On December 13, 2007, after a long and courageous battle with cancer, Diane Rever, beloved wife of Joseph Rever, passed away at home with her family by her side. She is survived by her husband of forty years, Joe; their two daughters Sandra and Karen; her father, Gordon Kowalchuk; three sisters, Carol Kemp (Clay), Linda Solomon (Clancy), Teresa Peterson (Kyle); sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Violet and John Lambie; nephews John, David, Scott, Bayn and Keenan; and niece Kristi. She was predeceased by her mother, Maimie. Born in Dauphin, MB, Diane was raised in a loving family with a rich Ukrainian culture. She met and married the love of her life, Joe, in 1967, and moved to Calgary to raise her family and continue her career. She taught elementary school for twenty-three years, until her retirement in 2002. She will be deeply missed for her zest for life, compassion towards others, and love of family and friends.
