LEVITSKI, William - Dearly loved by his family, he passed away November 25th, 2007 at the Shaver Hotel Dieu Hospital at the age of 69 years. He will be sadly missed by his wife Kathleen Levitiski, his daughter Ann, son in law Chris Zoetewey and grand daughter Krista, the love of his life. His daughter Lynn and son in law Kris Peoples, son Michael and daughter in law Melanie Levitski. He is the son of the late Ann and Mike Lewyckyj. After working in General Motors, he retired in 1996, to enjoy the rest of his life with his family. BRIGGS, Sylvia (nee Edwards) - After a short illness, Sylvia passed away peacefully on December 1, 2007 in Newmarket, ON. Sylvia is survived by her children, in-laws and grandchildren, Gloria Bradley (Richard), Mary McLennan (Jim & their son Keegan) and Gord (Teresa & their sons, Brendan, John Ross and Liam). She is predeceased by her parents, Edgar Edwards and Ruth Currie, her husband, Boyd and her other two sons, Douglas and Eldon. Prior to her recent illness, Sylvia spent 3 years at the Kitchen Breedon Manor. PINGUE, Marco - On Saturday December 1, 2007, Marco Pingue passed away suddenly as the result of a tragic accident at 22 years of age. Beloved son of Antonio and Rosemary Pingue. Cherished brother of Angela (Anthony) Roberto, Orlando and Antonio Pingue. Treasured grandson to Angiolina and the late Orlando Pingue and Angelina and the late Antonio Grosso. Adored Zio to Daniella and Gennaro Roberto, or as he referred to them as his DiDi and GiGi. Special nephew to Paul and Mary Pingue, Vince and Maria Notarianni, Mike and Frances Eskedjian and Rino and Lina Vetrone. He will be sadly missed by his many cousins, relatives and friends, whom he truly adored and respected. Marco could light up the room with his smile. He was known for his sharp wit, his great sense of humour and his fun loving personality. He had a great zest for life. To his friends he was known and will always be remembered as the ‘Captain'. His many acts of kindness to his family and extensive circle of friends will be fondly remembered; whether it was fixing their computer, installing a stereo system or helping to repair their car in our garage. He did it with a smile and asked for nothing but their love and friendship. He had a passion for sports and enjoyed playing hockey and competitive soccer. He could always be found cheering on Ferrari in Formula 1, the Montreal Canadiens and Italia's Azzurri with his many friends. It will be difficult for all of us to cheer without him. As a Brock University student, Marco aspired to pursue a career in politics and law. He had a love for his Italian heritage and dreamed of traveling to Italy. Marco was taken from us far too early. He will forever be in our hearts and thoughts. His spirit will always be with us. Kim Marie Halliday 1955 - 2007 Kim Marie Halliday passed away December 1st, 2007 at the Moncton Hospital, with her loving family by her side. Daughter of Ralph and Diane Hayden, beloved wife of James Halliday, devoted mother to Lukas (Holly) and Jordan, Kim was also a very dear sister to Kathy Hayden-Maillet (Dave), aunt to nieces, Kaydi and Jennay, and sister of Kirk Hayden. As well, Kim leaves behind her mother-in-law, Mary Halliday; sister-in-law, Joanna Warren (Joey); nephews, Taylor and Ryan; niece, Kelsey; and brother-in-law, John Halliday. Born in Springhill, Nova Scotia on November 12th 1955 and raised in Moncton, Kim was a graduate of Harrison Trimble High School, attended St. Mary's University and received her marketing degree at the New Brunswick Community College (NBCC). Upon graduation, she was the first employee at Magic Mountain Water Park. After a number of successful years as the Park's manager of marketing and operations, Kim moved on to become the Executive Director of the United Way of the Greater Moncton Region of Southeastern New Brunswick. Under her direction, the United Way achieved its first $1 million fundraising goal. Kim then began her own very successful consulting business to non-profit organizations. Some of Kim's proudest career achievements are coordinating a major community special event for Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, a 1.5 million dollar capital campaign for the Dr. Carson and Marion Murray Community Centre in Springhill, and fundraising with Moncton Headstart. In addition to raising her family and working full-time, Kim put her vivacious personality and many talents to work for her community, from fostering youth sports to sitting on numerous local, regional and national boards and committees, ie The National Board of The Boys and Girls Clubs of Canada. In all her endeavors, this wonderful woman endeared herself to her colleagues, became a mentor to many young people, and made countless life-long friends. She helped establish the Ron Smyth Award, given annually to an outstanding NBCC marketing student, in memory of her own mentor at the College. Kim Halliday believed that "life is not a dress rehearsal", and took every opportunity to travel, enjoy fine food, good music, great family and friends, and a hearty laugh. She was always available for a shoulder to cry on, a soothing embrace, a funny quip or bracing words of wisdom, whatever the occasion required. Kim will be greatly missed by all her family friends, and her Ya Ya sisters. As per Kim's wishes, there will be a memorial gathering at the Wesley Memorial United Church 168 Cameron St. Moncton Friday, December 7 at 3pm. OWEN, QUILLA MARTHA PEARL Quilla Martha Pearl Owen passed into the arms of God on December 2 2007, at the Oromocto Public Hospital. Born on October 31, 1914 in Hayslip, Ontario, Quilla met and married the love of her life, Ronald Lewis Owen in Kingston, Ontario and after almost sixty years of marriage Ron passed away in 2003. Quilla is also predeceased by grandson, Ronald James Owen in 2006. Quilla was a beloved wife and mother who dedicated her life to the care and nurturing of her family. She was an avid gardener, a top knotch cook and was highly skilled in the art of knitting and crocheting. Over the years Quilla was involved in various activities that were dedicated in some way to helping others. Quilla leaves behind her son, Ronald "Ted" (Anne) Owen; daughters, Bonnie Owen and Darlene (Noel) MacCormac; grandchildren, Martha (George) Ecker, Timothy (Shawna) MacCormac, Terence (Shannon) MacCormac, Richard (Carly) Owen, Kaleigh (Jason) Miller; great grandchildren, Tyler, Jacob, Shyla, Olivia, Carys and Marlee. MCCARTY, GENEVA - Geneva McCarty of Perth-Andover passed away at Victoria Glen Manor on November 29, 2007. Born in Birch Ridge, NB on August 25, 1929 she was the daughter of the late Basil and Delia (Young) Campbell. She leaves behind her sons, Ranald (Mavis) McCarty of Perth-Andover, Stephen (Tena) McCarty of Tottenham, ON; her sisters, Muriel (Franklin) Wright of Perth-Andover, Kathleen Caron of Rochester, NH; grandchildren, Sarah Walker (Travis), Jennifer Trites (Matthew), Pamela McCarty, Terry McCarty, Jeff McCarty; great grandchildren, Lauren, Emily, Alicia, Stephanie, and Hunter. Geneva was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Clarence McCarty; sister, Marie Fell; and brother, Howard Campbell. Geneva was a ward clerk at Hotel Dieu of St. Joseph Hospital for over 30 years. HUNTER, ESTELLA ELSIE 'STELLA' - Passed away peacefully at home on the evening of December 1st , 2007, at the age of 102 years and 5 months. Born on July 13, 1905, at Bains Corner, NB, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Alice (Moore) Martin as was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Frederic Hunter; sons, Howard, Truman, Art, Harold; daughter, Rose; one daughter-in-law; six sons-in-law; two brothers; and 12 grandchildren. Survived by daughters, Dorothy of British Columbia, Lillian of St. John's, NF, Marietta of Sussex, Maysie of Montreal, Jennie of Bains Corner; son, Wayne (Chris) of Bains Corner. Also surviving are over 210 grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren (several 5th generation grandchildren and one 6th generation grandchild). She was an 88 year member of the United Church of Canada, a member of the UCW and belonged to St.Martins Senior Citizens. FORBES, GEORGE CROCKER - The death of George Crocker Forbes, husband of the late Gladys (Elliot) Forbes, occurred on December 2, 2007 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born at Tynemouth Creek, NB, he was the son of the late William John and Ursula Stanford (Crocker) Forbes. He served with the Canadian Airforce during WW II. He was a general contractor and businessman who had been involved with Leighside Holdings Ltd., Shamrock Truss Components and Scottish Enterprises over the years. He was a member of the Independent Order of Foresters. Survived by his son, Thomas of Gardiner Creek; daughters, Connie (Michael Dow) of Gardiner Creek, Linda (John Blizzard) of Saint John; sister, Elizabeth Forbes of Saint John; grandchildren, Sarah, Alexis, Kaitlin and Christopher; great-grandchildren, Reece and Isaac; and several nieces and nephews. VERITY, Douglas “Red“ - Peacefully on Friday November 30, 2007, at the K.W. Health Centre, Grand River Hospital. Douglas Verity in his 89th year of Elmira. Survived by his brother John Edward “Jack“ Verity of Paris. Predeceased by his parents Harry and Elizabeth Verity, and sister in law Mary Ellen Verity all from Paris. Doug had a very illustrious hockey, business and horse racing career. He started out in 1936, playing hockey for the Paris Juniors for three years. He then went to Guelph to play Junior “A“ hockey for two years. Drafted by Detroit, he played three years with their farm club in Omaha Neb., the last year in Omaha they won the championship in eight straight games. Doug was a member of the R.C.A.F. during the war. After the war he played one year in Minneapolis and then for one year 1946-1947 for Vancouver of the P.C.H.L. He came back east and placed for the K-W Dutchmen Senior “A“ for three years. The following year he was playing in the U.K. for Brighton. He was voted “Rookie of the Year“ in the E.N.H.L. that year. He returned to the Dutchmen the next year. They won the Allen Cup against Pentiction “V“s. Doug's last year in hockey was played in Falkirk, Scotland. Doug then worked in Kitchener for a few years where he met the late Roy Bolender and together they purchased the Ambassador Motel in Kitchener. They were in business for eight years and had an offer to sell which they did. Doug always liked horses, and with the knowledge he gained from books and practical experience, he went into standard- bred racing. He was in the racing business for 20 years as an owner, trainer and driver. With his training headquarters at the Elmira Raceway he drove his horses on the smaller and major race tracks in Ontario and Buffalo. One of Doug's proudest moments was when he was elected to “The Wall of Recognition“ at the Paris Arena in 1997. GERMAIN Abbé Arsène GERMAIN (Abbé Arsène) Le 1er décembre 2007, est décédé au Centre de santé et de services sociaux de Chicoutimi Pavillon St-Vallier, à l'âge de 82 ans et 6 mois, M. l'abbé Arsène Germain, prêtre retraité, résidant au 927 rue Jacques-Cartier Est, Chicoutimi, à la Résidence Mgr-Paré. La famille accueillera les parents et amis à la Maison Mère des Soeurs Antoniennes de Marie 927 rue Jacques-Cartier Est Chicoutimi à compter de lundi après-midi, le 3 décembre 2007. Lundi, les heures d'accueil sont de 14 h à 17 h et de 19 h à 21 h 30 et mardi, le 4 décembre 2007, jour des funérailles, à compter de 8 h 30. Les funérailles seront célébrées à 10 h en la chapelle des Soeurs Antoniennes de Marie au 927 rue Jacques Cartier Est, Chicoutimi. L'inhumation suivra au cimetière de la paroisse Saint-Léon à Labrecque au Lac-St-Jean. L'abbé Germain laisse dans le deuil des neveux et nièces, des parents et des amis spécialement chez les Frères de l'Instruction chrétienne et dans le clergé diocésain. L'abbé Arsène est né à Donnacona le 19 mai 1925, de Mme Éva Delisle et de M. Joseph-Pierre Germain. Il a fait ses études classiques chez les Frères de l'Instruction chrétienne dont il a fait partie de la communauté de 1940 à 1974. Il a été alors étudiant, professeur, directeur d'école et supérieur de communauté dans divers endroits notamment à Pointe-du-Lac, à Shawinigan, à Arvida, à Amqui, à Mistassini et à Kénogami. Au cours de ces mêmes fonctions, il s'est engagé auprès des malades et en animation de façon importante auprès de groupes charismatiques. Il a alors complété des études théologiques à l'université du Québec à Chicoutimi, qui l'ont conduit à l'ordination à la prêtrise le 10 août 1974 conféré par Mgr Marius Paré en l'église St-Mathias d'Arvida. Son ministère sacerdotal s'exerca d'abord comme vicaire à St-Philippe d'Arvida et comme aumônier à temps partiel à l'Hôpital de Jonquière avant d'être nommé curé de St-Thomas-Didyme (1980-1985) puis à Saint-Léon (1985-1989). Il prit ensuite sa retraite brièvement à la Résidence des prêtres, avenue Georges-Vanier à Chicoutimi avant de rejoindre la Résidence Mgr-Paré chez les Soeurs Antoniennes de Marie fin de 1989 jusqu'à aujourd'hui. Durant toute cette dernière période, il s'est dévoué généreusement, selon ses possibilités, auprès de divers groupes et de communautés religieuses.
