ROADNIGHT, Mary Elizabeth “Betty“ (nee McPhaden) - Betty went home peacefully, to her Lord and Saviour, with her loving family by her side, at the Hotel Dieu Shaver Hospital, on Saturday, October 27, 2007, in her 84th year. Beloved wife of the late Russell Roadnight (1997). Loving and cherished mother of Maureen Fraser (Ron Chenier), Garry (Brenda) Roadnight, Paul (Marie) Roadnight, Brian (Nancy) Roadnight, Charlene (Normand) Desrochers, and Karen (Arie) Molenaar. Special grandmother to Jennifer Overend, Aaron Roadnight, Laurenn and Chantal Desrochers, Kendal, Jory and Darcy Roadnight, Rebecca Hahn, Sarah and Jaisen Roadnight, Mary McEachern, Rob Drury, and Kathy Lynn McCaffie. Betty is also survived by her great grandchildren and her sister Carol Murphy. Predeceased by her son Glenn (1978), her mother Mary McPhaden (1996), and her siblings Lorne and Peggy McPhaden. A very special thanks to the staff at the Hotel Dieu Shaver Hospital for their excellent care over the past 6 months. SOROKA, Jakim - With great sorrow and hearts full of love, the Lord has taken Jakim Soroka into his hands on Sunday, October 28, 2007, in his 86th year; born in Ukraine August 30, 1922. Beloved husband of 62 years to Mary Soroka (Slobodian). Dearly loved father of Helen and husband Bob Diakow, Anne and husband Keith Shaver. Dearest and most loved “Dido“ to grandchildren, Kathryn and Andrew Diakow; Marissa, Kristen and Laura Shaver. Predeceased by his parents and three brothers. He will be sadly missed by his nieces and nephews and friends in Ukraine. Jakim immigrated to Canada in 1951, and was employed by General Motors. He proudly worked for 31 years and retired in April 1986. He was a member of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of St. George, one of the founding members and an elder for many years. CARRIGAN, Marguerite (Bateson) - Passed away peacefully on the 26th day of October, 2007 at the age of 78, after a long battle with osteoporosis that she fought with dignity, courage and a sense of humour. Marguerite was a much loved daughter, an adored wife, a loving mother and faithful friend to all who were privileged to know her. Marg was a proud member of the A.Y. Girls' Club. She married the love of her life, Fred Carrigan, on September 16, 1950 and together started a family. Loving mother of Wayne (Debbie), Michael (Theresa), Gail (David) and Greg. George M. Greek 1931-2007 George Melbourne Greek, December 17, 1931. Best friend, companion, and beloved husband of Sheelagh (Cussons) for 22 years. His son Jeff will cherish the memory of George's unconditional love. Their fondest memories will be of George smiling as he donned his apron and a cowboy hat by the BBQ at their home or at the campsite. Admired by all who knew him, George's humour and integrity will long stay in the hearts of his family, friends, and community. He has carried to all his beginnings and his love for Lunenburg. Calling on his worldly travels, and encyclopedic knowledge, George would never shy away from a good debate. George lived his values as a respected co-worker at Co-op Atlantic where he worked for 35 years and through his volunteer work in the Co-operative Movement which exemplified his belief in equality, equity and mutual self-help. George is survived by his beloved wife Sheelagh and their son, Jeff; daughter-in-law, Suzanne; and granddaughters, Anabel and Mia. George is also survived by a large family, including his brothers, Ivan (Audrey), Ray (Joan); his sister, Joanne Ullock (late Tommy); his mother-in-law, Connie Cussons (late Bill); many brothers/sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, grandnephews, and grandnieces; two daughters, Gloria and Margot; and granddaughter, Carmen, were always in George's heart. George is predeceased by his parents, Venice and Juanita (Tanner) Greek; and his brothers, Gerald (Carol) and Lenny (Mona) of Blue Rocks, Nova Scotia. The family wishes to thank the dedicated staff of the Moncton Hospital for their care and compassion during George's stay. John A. (Jack) Bell 1935-2007 John (Jack) Alfred Bell of Princess Street, Miramichi, NB loving husband of Kay (Kennedy) Bell, passed away peacefully at the Miramichi Regional Hospital at the age of 72, on October 26, 2007 after a courageous battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his devoted wife and family. In addition to his wife of 47 years, Jack is survived by his six children, Carmel (Rick) Sargent, Lynn Ogilvie, Margie (David) Robichaud, Gary Nowlan, Jackie (Myles) Brideau and Wilson (Cheryl) Bell; grandchildren, Jodie, Kyle, Greg, Steven, Aaron, Karen, Laura, Joel, Ryan, Jonathan, Jillian, Tanis, Michael, Josh, Kennedy, Braden; and great grandchildren, Jared and Morgan. He is survived by sisters, Glornnah Savage of Riverview, Joan Mahoney and brother Herbie Bell of Miramichi; along with several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Sarah and Wilson Bell, Jack was predeceased by his sister, Carol Murphy. Jack was employed by the Town of Chatham Police Department, serving the citizens of the Town of Chatham from the formation of the force in 1968 until he retired as the Chief of Police in 1994. Jack was a retired member of the Knights of Columbus 1219, an original founder of Miramichi Big Brothers and Big Sisters, Board Member of the Chatham Non-Profit Housing Corporation, Board Member of the Block Parent Program, and a member of the New Brunswick Police Chiefs Association. Jack's passion was spending time with his family. He also enjoyed travelling, gardening, reading, walking, and daily coffee breaks with friends at the Morada. Adoring Nanna to her four beautiful grandchildren, Zanthy, Justin, Nathan and Theo. Survived by her dedicated companion of almost 20 years, Colin Bell, who remained at her side through her illness with unyielding love and care. EVERINGHAM, Norman - At Copper Terrace Long Term Care Facility, Chatham, on Sunday, October 28, 2007, Norman William Everingham, age 77 of Chatham, beloved husband of Linda Sales. Born in Chatham on September 20, 1930, loving and devoted son of the late Marie (Bourdeau) and Norman Everingham, he was a policeman for 31 years, retired in 1984, a life member of the Imperial Club and a member of Branch 628 Legion for over 50 years. A former member of the Kent Regiment, Norman was also a Master bridge player and an avid golfer. He also enjoyed playing “the ponies”. He will be sadly missed by: his 7 children Gary Everingham of Clachen, John Everingham of Germany, Joanne Lindsay of Chatham, Kate Arnold of London, Douglas Sales Jr. of Peterborough, Gail Sleiman of Belle River and Ellen Sales-Hitchcock of Chatham, 14 grandchildren, a cousin Vincent Penney of B.C. and his faithful and loving canine companion Princess Coco. DOIRON, BENJAMIN (BEN) JOHN DOIRON, Benjamin (Ben) John of Nashwaak Village, husband of Angeline (Benoit) passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 27, 2007 in his home with his family around him. He was born June 20, 1927 in Portage-River N.B. and was a son of the late John (Sara) Doiron. Ben worked in the woods most of his life and enjoyed hunting. He was a proud member of the East Coast First People Alliance. Besides his wife, Ben is survived by his sons, Jean-Yves (Barbara) of Nashwaak Bridge, Raymond (Ann Marie), Dennis (Anna), Lucien (Alice), Neil (Ginny) and Roger (Ruth) all of Zionville; daughter, Tina (Andrew Christie) of Prince William; and brother, Emile (Antonia) of Durham Bridge. Also surviving Benjamin are his 18 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Besides his parents Benjamin is predeceased by six brothers; eight sisters; two sons; and a grandson, Johnnie. He had many passions; his relationship with God, anything to do with the outdoors, all animals - he loved to watch the deer and birds that were a constant presence in his yard, the cows and horses he used to have on his farm. Besides running a successful farm for many years, Ralph also worked as a deliveryman for Sears and Gibsons. He also spent time working in the woods. Ralph looked much younger than his eighty-one years and had the brain of a much younger person. He was very hardworking, loving, and generous, always making time to help those who needed it, even during times when he wasn't in the best of health. He had a great sense of humor and laughed easily. Ralph was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother-in-law, uncle and friend and will be sadly missed. GRIFFITH, Patricia Lou Oct. 29th, 1931 - Oct. 26th, 2007 So quick and sudden at Bluewater Health in the Palliative Care unit on October 26th, 2007. We lost the life of a special woman. A few days shy of her 76th birthday, Patricia Lou Griffith Pat joined the love of her life, the late Tom Griffith in heaven. Now re- united with her father Henry Deguire and mother Leona Deguire. As well as her two little angels, sons; Ronnie and Gary Savage. She will forever be missed by her brother, Richard Deguire and his amazing and strong wife Brenda. Her two nephews Joe and Mike Deguire and nieces Kim Jackson and Kerri Armstrong. Her three beautiful daughters; Lynda Cameron and Howard Riley, Chris and Scott Cameron and Lori and Peter McNamee. Also loved by the joys of her life; her grandchildren. Ryan Brown and Claudia Cheung, Melissa Cameron and Sean Barlow, Cole Cameron and Kat, Sarah Cameron and Jeff Nesbit, Jay Cameron and her newest little edition great grandson Cye Nesbit. All other family members and friends of Pat will miss her dearly. She was a fabulous woman and this tragedy is a huge loss to our family. Michael Joseph Bernard 1969 - 2007 Mike Bernard, beloved son of Richard and Diane (Furlotte) Bernard of Lower Coverdale passed away on Thursday, October 25, 2007 as result of a motor vehicle accident in Glenvale, NB at the age of 38 years. He will be sadly missed by his children, Cory and Christina; former wife, Stacy (Wilson); sister, Anne (Paul) Curwin; niece, Skylar Curwin; maternal grandmother, Lillian St. Germain; also by several aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends, especially his best friends, Darren Phillips, Barry and Troy Wasson. All who knew him will remember him for his passion for life and the outdoors. He was a man who always put his family and friends first. He was predeceased by his maternal grand father, Eldon Furlotte; paternal grand parents, Louis and Adrienne Bernard. A funeral Mass will be held at Immaculate Heart of Mary Roman Catholic Church on Monday, October 29, 2007 at 2:00 pm with Father Phil Mulligan officiating.
