COLLETT, Raymond Bernard - of Keswick, Ontario. Formerly a resident of Lakefield, Ontario. Passed away peacefully on Friday, October 26, 2007 at the South Lake Regional Health Centre in Newmarket, Ontario, in his 96th year. Beloved husband of the late Reta Mary Collett (nee Ratz). Ray is survived by his son, Robert; his daughter, Catharine Mundy (husband Wayne); his grand-daughters, Jennifer and Elizabeth; two well loved great- granddaughters, Morgan and Aiden and a newly arrived great-grandson, Owen. Born in England in 1912, Ray was a resident of Canada from the age of ten. He grew up in Hastings township near Havelock, Ontario. He worked as a reporter for the Toronto Star from 1934 until 1938, when he joined the Canadian Army as a public relations officer. He served overseas with the Canadian Army from 1938 to 1946, returning to Canada with the rank of Major. Ray's career in business and consumer- relations spanned nearly fifty years. He was successively a journalist, a public relations, advertising, marketing and management executive in Toronto and Montreal. When he retired in 1979, Ray was the President and Chief Executive Officer of the Better Business Bureau of Canada. In 1947, Ray married the former Reta Mary Ratz, a nurse who, like himself, was a commissioned officer in the Canadian Army and whom he had met while they both were on active service. Ray and Reta Collett lived in Oakville, then Toronto where they raised their two children, until retirement. They moved from North York to Thornhill and then to Lakefield in 1983. They both were active in the church and community affairs. An ardent curler, Ray was a life-time member of the Lakefield Curling Club. For the past six months, Ray has lived with his daughter and son-in-law in Keswick. A memorial service will be held at the Zion United Church in Crediton, Ontario, on Saturday, November 3, 2007, at 11 am. The Reverend Mark Graves officiating. Refreshments and a brief internment service at the United Church Cemetery in Crediton will follow. Refreshments will be provided by the UCW of the Zion United Church for relatives and friends. LUEBCKE, Karl Heinz Oskar Canadian Armed Forces Canadian Foreign Service Sunday, October 28, 2007 at the age of 83, following a recent stroke. He was predeceased six years ago by his beloved wife, Annegrete. Much loved Vati of Barbara (Walter Arksey) of Kanata and Bernard (Ingrid) of Germany. Dear Abu of Thomas, Sandra, Marieka, Natasha, and Christopher. He had a long career in the Canadian Army and he and Ann travelled extensively around the world while working for External Affairs. We take comfort knowing that they are back together on their final posting. There will be no visitation. POKRUPA, Esther C., RN, BA (nee Mants) - Passed away peacefully October 22, 2007 in her 90th year. After 57 years of happy marriage, she is survived by her husband, Peter and her sons Ronald (married to Karen M. Smith) and Paul (companion to Elaine), two grand daughters, Tamara Pokrupa and Celina Nahanni (both at Queen's University) and grandson Taj Nahanni, his wife Adrienne and three great grandchildren; Tristan, Russell and Sierra of Montreal. Her brother Jim Mants of Winnipeg and sister Norah Mullan of Minneapolis also survive her. Born in Saskatchewan, Esther graduated as a registered nurse. During World War II she joined the Canadian Army and tended casualties at the Canadian Military Hospital in Basingstoke. After the war she was one of very few women to study at the Canadian Khaki University in Watford, UK. She transferred to the University of Saskatchewan where she completed her BA and met her future husband. According to her wishes she was cremated. There will be a memorial gathering at the University Club at Queen's, 168 Stuart St. Kingston, Ontario, Friday November 30 from 4-7 pm. GRIFFITH, Patricia Lou Oct. 29th, 1931 - Oct. 26th, 2007 So quick and sudden at Bluewater Health in the Palliative Care unit on October 26th, 2007. We lost the life of a special woman. A few days shy of her 76th birthday, Patricia Lou Griffith Pat joined the love of her life, the late Tom Griffith in heaven. Now re- united with her father Henry Deguire and mother Leona Deguire. As well as her two little angels, sons; Ronnie and Gary Savage. She will forever be missed by her brother, Richard Deguire and his amazing and strong wife Brenda. Her two nephews Joe and Mike Deguire and nieces Kim Jackson and Kerri Armstrong. Her three beautiful daughters; Lynda Cameron and Howard Riley, Chris and Scott Cameron and Lori and Peter McNamee. Also loved by the joys of her life; her grandchildren. Ryan Brown and Claudia Cheung, Melissa Cameron and Sean Barlow, Cole Cameron and Kat, Sarah Cameron and Jeff Nesbit, Jay Cameron and her newest little edition great grandson Cye Nesbit. All other family members and friends of Pat will miss her dearly. She was a fabulous woman and this tragedy is a huge loss to our family. Daughter of the late Louis and of the late Annie (née Burns) Spencer. Wife of the late Simon Laflèche (1997). Devoted mother of Bob (Millie) of Peterborough, Len, Deanna (Bruce), Brian (Lorraine), Frances (Bruce), Jocelyn (Guy), Gisèlle (Paul), Dan, David (Rachelle) all of Sturgeon Falls, Shirley (Gilles) of Sudbury, Joan (Brian) of Oshawa, Monique (Art) of Ottawa and Anne Marie (Glen) of St-Catharines. She will be sadly missed by her 27 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. Predeceased by her brothers Raymond, McCarthy, Frank, Lorne and sister Annie. Lovingly remembered by her sister Elaine Ferrill and her many nieces and nephews. Edna was a charter member of the CWL and contributed generously of her time to many organizations in the community. Evelyn was a well known music teacher and an organist at the Pro-Cathedral and other area churches for over 50 years. She was also a member of the North Bay Branch of the Ontario Registered Music Teachers Association. Gwen (nee Gilchrist) was the beloved wife of the late Aksel Parnamgi who predeceased her in 1995. The proud and loving mother of Tiina Mason and her husband Barry, of Amherst, New Hampshire, she will be lovingly remembered by her grandsons Jeffrey and Steven. Born November 23rd, 1926 at Parry Sound, Gwen was the daughter of the late Nobel & Helen “Nellie“ Gilchrist. She will be sadly missed by her sister Joan Massey of Huntsville, sisters in law Audrey Gilchrist and Bertha Tilt and her numerous nieces and nephews. She was also predeceased by her sisters Elizabeth, Verna and Helen, and brothers Anthony, Charles, Harvey, Stuart, Robert, Leonard and Joseph. A dedicated wife and mother Gwen had worked for the Bell Telephone Company as an operator. She was a nature lover at heart and thoroughly enjoyed living in her country home.
