LA PLANTE, Gerard L. - 1931-2007 - Passed away peacefully, on Tuesday, October 23, 2007 at Freeport Health Centre of Grand River Hospital, in his 77th year. Gerry was a long time employee of Bell Canada for 37 years. His career began in Orillia/Barrie area. He was transferred to Kitchener in 1972, working in Guelph, Kitchener and Galt as well as three years in Saudi Arabia with B.C.I. He retired from London in 1985. He was a life time member of the Knights of Columbus, Barrie and a member of The Telephone Pioneers and the Cardiac Fitness Association. Much loved husband of Muriel (Alyson) La Plante for over 23 years. Loved by his daughter Mary Jane Leighton and his son Stephen La Plante. Beloved grandfather to Carolyn Leighton-Hilborn (Kyle), Scott Leighton, and Kelsey La Plante. Deeply loved by his elder brother Harold La Plante of Newmarket and his sister Mary Fran Brunt (Phil) of Orillia. Sadly missed by his sisters-in-law Alva La Plante and Cathy La Plante both of Barrie and his brothers-in-law; Joe Brunatti of Grimsby, Roy Allison (Margaret) of Oshawa, and Ron Allison (Beulah) of Veteran AB. OBITUARY DR. GEORGE FRANCIS KNERR WESLEY HILLS, NY LISTING George Francis Knerr of Wesley Hills, NY passed away on Wednesday, October 24, 2007. He was born in Brooklyn, NY on December 27, 1921, to Irene (Collins) Knerr and George F. Knerr, Sr. He was raised in Queens until he was inducted into the Army in 1942. He received his B.A. degree in History cum laude from St. John's College, a Master of Arts from St. John's University in History, and a PHD from New York University in 1957. His doctoral thesis analyzed and elaborated on the history of New York City. He taught at St. John's University and later joined the staff of Pace University. This association would continue for the next 40 years and included a host of responsibilities including: Director of Graduate Division, Dean of Admissions, Dean of Student Personnel, and Vice-President for Facilities, Planning and Development. During this time, Dr. Knerr was the lead project administrator in the implementation of the growth of Pace University to a major institution including the building of the main downtown NYC campus, the development of the Westchester campuses and Graduate School, The School of Nursing and The School of Law. His influence has been felt in almost every area of concern of the University. Dr. Knerr was a member of numerous professional organizations including the Middle Atlantic Association of Colleges of Business Administration in which he held the office of President, and the Middle States Assoc. College accreditation Team. Dr. Knerr was a Trustee for The Maryknoll School of Technology, and the New York Institute of Credit. He was lector and past president of the St. Boniface Church Parish Council in Wesley Hills, NY where he resided for 36 years. Dr. Knerr married Agnes Doyle on February 2, 1944 at St. Clement's Roman Catholic Church in Jamaica, NY. They were married for sixty-three years and had ten children, twenty-two grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren whom he loved and cherished immensely. He was predeceased by his wife in 2005 and a son, Thomas Michael. He is survived by Kathleen McFarland of New City, NY, Maureen Byrnes of Phoenix, MD., E. Pat Geraci of Ridgefield, CT, Joan Whitehouse of Haverstraw, NY, Paul Knerr of Pierrefonds, QC, Rita Riehman of Ossining, NY, Frank Knerr of Nanuet, NY, Bernadette Alcide of Monroe, NY, and Marybeth Interdonato of Ridgefield, CT. The family will be present to receive friends and relatives on Saturday, October 27 and Sunday, October 28 from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m at the WANAMAKER & CARLOUGH F.H., 177 RT 59, SUFFERN, NY 10977. Hutt, William Sargent - The death of Bill Hutt of Kiwanis Court, Saint John occurred at his residence on October 26, 2007. He was born in Saint John, N.B. on August 9, 1915 to the late William H. and Mary (Sargent) Hutt. Bill served his country in World War II from 1940 -1945. He was a member of the 3rd Division Canadian Corps of Signals, participated on D-Day and in the liberation of Holland. Bill was a member of the R.C.L. Portland Branch #64 Saint John, Royal Canadian Signals Association Atlantic Division, NB, Signals Association and was a life time member of the Kindness Club. After the war, Bill worked at the Atlantic Sugar Refinery for over 30 years, retiring as Panhouse Foreman. In his younger days he was well known in basketball, badminton and track and field. In his retirement Bill enjoyed cribbage, golf and fishing. Devoted to his family, he was a loving husband and father. He is survived by his loving wife, of 62 years, Vera (Shepherdson) Hutt; their three children, Ann Moore (Ken) of Nackawic, NB, Robert Hutt (Jean) of Fredericton, NB and Barbara Hutt (Kevin) of Saint John, NB; four grandchildren, Timothy and Jeffrey Hutt, Alyson Hirtle (Austin) and Kayla Flowers and one great granddaughter, Zoe Hirtle. Besides his parents, Bill was predeceased by his sister Mary Hutt and grandson Scott Moore. A celebration of Bill's life will be held on Monday, October 29, 2007 at 3:30 pm from Brenan's Chapel. At Bill's request there will be no visitation but family will accept friends from 2:30 to 3:30 before the service. Following cremation, interment will be held in Hull, England at a later date. Paul Joseph Gallant 1927 - 2007 Paul Joseph Gallant, of Riverview, passed away with family by his side at The Moncton Hospital on Friday, October 26, 2007 at the age of 80 years. Born in Puisville, PE on June 29, 1927 he was the son of the late Charles and Julienne Gallant. Paul started his career with Byron Dobson in 1946, then worked as a building contractor for a number of years. In later years he worked with Riverview Truck and Repair where he officially retired in 1999. He was an avid sports fan, enjoyed the outdoors, and above all he loved spending time with his family. He is survived by his wife, of 50 years Betty; daughters, Candace (Gary) Aguinaga, Bev Gallant, and Judy (Ron) Barter all of Riverview; son Jeff (Lori) Gallant of Georgetown, ON; sisters, Rita (Cliff) Gallant of Aurora, ON, Zena (Arnold) Arsenault of PE, Diane (Gerry) O'Connell of PE, Erma (Wilf) Desroche of ON, Gloria Maillet of ON; brother - in law, Gerry Martin of ON; ten grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. BOURKE, Evelyn Mary, ATCM - Peacefully after an evening shared with her family on Friday October 26, 2007 in her 90th year. Predeceased by her loving husband and companion Joe in 1978. Caring and loving mother of Jewell Ann Brunette (Raymond) of North Bay, Robert (Catherine) of Pickering, Michael (Catherine) of Ottawa and Brian (Ann-Marie) of North Bay. Sadly missed by her grandchildren Andrée Brunette (Shawn Moore), Micheline Pride (Jon), Aimée Cazabon (Richard), John Bourke (Stefanie), Matthew Bourke, Sara Bourke (Cory Jaska), Benjamin Bourke, Caroline Mathieson (Mark), Melanie Bourke (Jeff Jackson), Michelle Bourke and Brianne Bourke. Also missed by her great grandchildren Maire Harrison, Joshua Pride, Bourke and McCrea Cazabon, Naomi Bourke and Baylee Bourke. Evelyn was a well known music teacher and an organist at the Pro-Cathedral and other area churches for over 50 years. She was also a member of the North Bay Branch of the Ontario Registered Music Teachers Association. BARRETT, PAUL EVANS 1957-2007 It is with great love and sadness, the family announce the passing of Paul Evans Barrett on 25 October 2007. Paul will be dearly missed by his wife, Mary Ann Linda (McDermaid) Barrett. Paul married his high school sweetheart on the 25 August 1978. They were best friends. They were soul mates. They were always together. Paul always had a smile, which would show in his eyes, and a great sense of humour. He could make Linda laugh no matter what. He was a real gentleman who would help anyone who needed it. He was such a hard worker. Paul loved working on genealogy, puzzles and working with wood in his workshop. He absolutely loved listening to music and he was a true New England Patriots and Toronto Maple Leaf fan. Paul was born in Dhar, India. He will be sadly missed by his father and mother, Rev. George and Geraldine Barrett; brother, Gene (Susan); sister, Ruth (Paul); brother, Kevin (Cathy); father-in-law and mother-in-law, Rex and Simonne McDermaid; brothers-in-law, Michael (Tina), Patrick (Laura), Steven (Kelly), Allan (Nicole) and sister-in-law, Carol (Matt). He will also be sadly missed by a number of nieces and nephews, Brynle, Tessa, Mark, Kevin, Jennifer, Kellen, Marta, Danielle, Andrew, Lauren, Ryan, Michelle, Marc Andre, Misty, Kyle, Katie, Steven and Matthew. Paul was predeceased by his grandparents, John and Jessie Barrett, Isaac and Lena Fowler, James Rexford and Hilda McDermaid as well as beloved pets, Sandy and Fritz. KIERS, Wayne Clarence, 1948-2007 - It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden and unexpected passing of Wayne on Friday October 19th, 2007. Wayne was born in Wapse, Diever Netherlands. Wayne was the fifth child born to Michiel and Harmina Kiers. He was a loving husband and father and is deeply mourned by Tess (nee DeJong), his wife of 33 years, daughter Rachel, son Michael, and siblings; John (Ruth), Betty, Harry (Diane), Henry (Joanne), Alice (Rein), and Roelof (Marie- Claude), Mike (Irene). Wayne was a man of integrity, gentleness, strong faith, humility, and compassion. He understood and worked to empower others. Many friends benefited from his gentle discernment, vast biblical knowledge, and patient teaching. Wayne was a keen observer of people and nature; he was a writer and avid gardener. He never put himself forward and was content to let others take the praise. Henri LeBlanc 1922-2007 Henri LeBlanc, age 84, of Victoria, B.C. and formerly of Saint-Paul de Kent, passed away after a brief illness on Thursday, October 25th, 2007 at the Dr. G.L. Dumont Hospital, Moncton. Born in Saint-Paul de Kent on November 11th, 1922, he was the son of the late Maximin and the late Marie (Née LeBlanc) LeBlanc. Henri is survived by one sister; Alice Gould of Shemogue and one brother; Antoine (Zella) of Saint-Paul and several nephews, nieces, and cousins. He was predeceased by three sisters; Emma, Ida, Florence and two brothers, Camille, Alfred. Henri was a veteran for the Canadian Air Force for 17 years. Visitations will be held at the Saint-Paul de Kent Roman Catholic Church slumber room, on Sunday, October 28th, 2007 from 2 to 4 p.m. and Monday, October 29th from 9 to 10:45 a.m. Funeral Mass will be held at the Saint-Paul de Kent Roman Catholic Church on Monday, October 29th, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be in the parish cemetery. ARBUCKLE, WILLIAM JOHN It is with great sadness that the family of William (Billy) John Arbuckle of Dumfries, NB, announce his passing on Friday, October 26, 2007 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital. Billy is survived by his wife Althea Arbuckle (Hatto), one son Frederick and Sharon Arbuckle, Dumfries, NB, four daughters Barbara and Peter Morrison, Prince William, NB, Anna and Gerard Daly, Dumfries, NB, Martha and Andrew Kitchen, New Maryland, NB, and Pamela and Mark Belliveau, Calgary, AB; grandchildren Sean, Aynslie, Jason, Andrew (Karen), Kristy, Jeremy (Kim), Jonathan, Jodi (Charles), Michelle (Peter), Michael, Matthew (Tara) and Jennifer; six great-grandchildren Jessie-Lyne, Alysa, Caleb, Alexa, Brennan, and Myles. He was predeceased by his parents Frederick and Ethel (Mabie) Arbuckle and infant sister Frances Jessie. Bill was born in 1921 on his farm in Dumfries, NB where he spent his entire life. He graduated from the Agriculture program at the Carleton County Vocational School in 1940 and worked on his farm most of his days. In 1943 Bill married the love of his life, Althea Hatto, and started a family. In the early 70's he went to work at Valley Forest and remained there until 1985 when he retired. Nature and being in the woods was where he was happiest and he loved to be outside with his "projects", including bees, the tractor, the garden and making maple syrup. He took advantage of travel opportunities and never passed up a chance to go for a drive. Bill will be remembered by most for his story telling, his love of his family and his continuous curiosity for learning new things. Visitation will be held at Flewelling Funeral Home, 585 Otis Drive, Nackawic, NB on Sunday, October 28, 2007 from 2-4 pm and 7-9pm. The funeral service will be held at Riverside United Church, 6682 Route 102 on Monday, October 29, 2007 at 2pm with Rev. Jennifer Brown officiating. Interment will follow at the Barony Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be granddaughters, Aynslie Morrison, Kristy Arbuckle, Jodi Goguen and Michelle Arbuckle-Lewis. ERKKILA, Pekka Heikki Matias, MRAIC July 29, 1949 - October 21, 2007 Of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan Pekka passed away on October 21, 2007 in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. He is survived by his loving wife of twenty-six years, Sylva Jurney. Pekka is also survived by his brother Tapani in Edmonton. He will be dearly missed by his in-laws: Helen Schooler; Kandice and Art Grenville, their children Richard and Christopher; Roma and Bill Boutilier, their children Nathan, Maegen and her husband Aaron Gilkin and daughter Ayva; David and Shannon Schooler and their children Cael, Aaron, Lain and William. He was predeceased by his parents Marjatta and Matti. Pekka was born in Tampere, Finland on July 29, 1949 and came to Quebec, Canada with his family in 1954. He attended McGill University and attained his Bachelor of Science in 1970 and his Bachelor of Architecture in 1973. He became a member of the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada in 1980. After employment with a private architectural firm in Kingston, Ontario, Pekka moved to Edmonton in 1981 with Public Works Canada. In 1999 he moved to Saskatoon with Correctional Service Canada continuing his employment until now. Pekka met his sweetheart Sylva in 1981 on the first tee of an Edmonton area golf club. They joined the Belvedere Golf Club and made many lasting friendships. In Saskatoon Pekka continued to golf and began curling. He was a member of the Scandinavian Club and being proud of his Finnish heritage was always first to volunteer to carry his country's flag at functions. He was a member of the Opimian Wine Society of Canada - "nothing was better than friends and a bottle of fine wine... or two... or three..." One of life's greatest pleasures for Pekka and Sylva was traveling the globe to all points north, south, east and west including Africa, Argentina and Asia. LUSSIER, M. Bernard 1927-2007 Au Centre hospitalier de Granby, le 25 octobre 2007, à l'âge de 80 ans, est décédé M. Bernard Lussier, époux de Mme Yvette Meunier, demeurant à Ste-Cécile-de-Milton. Outre son épouse bien-aimée, Yvette, il laisse dans le deuil ses enfants : Bernadette (Gilles Therriault), Clément (Lyne Rouleau), France (Normand Borduas), Louise (Sylvain Beaudoin), Denise (Guy Frégeau); ses petits-enfants : Dany et Benoit Casavant, Andy et Anick Lussier, Guy (Isabelle) et Carl Borduas, Jocelyn Beaudoin, Bruno Frégeau; ses frères et soeurs : Rolland (Laurette Perreault), Rose-Aimée (feu Marcel Lamothe), Réal (Mimiane Roy), Madeleine (feu Normand Ménard), Jeanne-D'Arc (Roch Robert), Pauline (Yvon Dépôt). Il était le beau-frère de : feu Rollande (feu Aimé Janvier), Marcel (Réjeanne Lussier), Rita, Adrien (Lise Paquin), Gilles (Pauline Bélanger). Il laisse également ses neveux et nièces, autres parents et amis.
