Bernard LeBlanc (1943-2007) - À l’Hôpital régional Dr-Georges-L.-Dumont de Moncton, le mercredi 17 octobre 2007, à l’âge de 63 ans, est décédé Bernard LeBlanc, domicilié à Dieppe. Né à L’Anse aux Cormier, N.-B., il était fils de feu Aurèle et de feu Olida (née Leger) LeBlanc. Il laisse dans le deuil son épouse, Viola (née LeBlanc); trois filles: Maria Langis de Moncton, Nathalie (Mathieu Landry) de Grand-Barachois et Sophie (Andrew) à la maison; deux fils: Maurice (Cynthia) de Dieppe et Mario dit Fayo (Sylvette) de Moncton; six soeurs: Jeannita (Neri) LeBlanc, Aurela (Alonzo) Cormier, Aline (Amand) LeBlanc, Angela (Raoul) Melanson, Hermance (Edgar) Cormier et Francine LeBlanc; deux frères: Dr Paul-Emile (Thérèse) et Rodolphe (Claire); six petits-enfants: Marc, Monica, Samuel, Dominique, Jacob et Marielle, ainsi que plusieurs neveux et nièces. Quatre frères: Ronaldo, Joseph, Normand et Bernard, l’ont précédé dans la tombe. C’est avec une profonde tristesse que la communauté artistique et sa famille perdent une personne avec tellement de générosité, de sagesse et d’une très grande humanité. Considéré comme un des pionniers du théâtre en Acadie, Bernard LeBlanc s’est investi dans l’épanouissement artistique de l’Acadie depuis plus de 30 ans.C’est comme comédien que son talent se manifesta le plus, il joua dans plus d’une vingtaine de rôles au théâtre et plus d’une dizaine au cinéma sans compter tous les décors qu’il réalisa. Il fut un des fondateurs du théâtre l’Escaouette et du Centre Culturel d’Aberdeen, où il avait son atelier de menuiserie et où il avait ouvert, avec sa femme depuis quelques années, le Café Jacob. Il devint une icône du théâtre acadien avec son rôle dans Laurie ou La vie de galerie, qu’il joua 217 fois. Des milliers de spectateurs découvrirent alors son immense talent. Dumont Hospital, Moncton, N.B. It is with great sadness that the artistic community and his family bid farewell to a wise and generous humanitarian. Considered a pioneer of Acadian Theatre during the past 30 years, Mr. LeBlanc worked tirelessly for the recognition of the Acadian artist. Best known for his comedic talent, he also brought to life some twenty theatre roles and over ten characters on the big screen. We cannot forget to mention the many backdrop settings he created with his magic as a carpenter. Mr. LeBlanc was a founding member of "Théatre l'Escaouette", "Centre Culturel Aberdeen", where he operated a carpenter's workshop, and along with his wife (for the last few years), operated Café Jacob. He became an icon of the Acadian Theatre with his starring role in "Laurie ou La vie de galorie", which he portrayed 217 times, where millions of spectators recognized his amazing talent. Born in Cormier's Cove, N.B, he was the son of the late Aurèle and the late Olida (née: Leger) LeBlanc. Justin Paul Schulz, dear son of SueAnn Crandall-Schulz, and Walter Schulz and friend MaryLou of Ayton, passed away on Thursday, October 11, 2007 at the age of 18 years. Brother of Stephen Schulz of Ayton. Also survived by his maternal grandparents Chris and John Geilen of Ayton, his paternal grandmother Maria Schulz of Ayton, his maternal great-grandmother Nellie Woytowich of Thorndale; five aunts, Carolyn Crandall, Lisa Brooking (Kelly), Cindy Geilen, Monica Valad (Ron) and Ingrid Graham (Mike); two uncles, Thomas Geilen (Gail) and Kurt Schulz (Kim); eight cousins, Kyle, Bradyn, Presley, Ayla, K. J. Kim, Lisa, and Tanya and many friends. Predeceased by his paternal grandfather Kurt Schulz. Friends were received at Garrett Funeral Chapel in Neustadt until 12 noon on Monday, October 14, 2007, then to Trinity Lutheran Church, Ayton for funeral services at 2 pm. Cremation followed. GEHL, Rose Nathalie (nee Steinhauer) October 31, 1925 - October 16, 2007 Rose passed away peacefully in the Peter Lougheed Hospital on Tuesday, October 16, 2007. She was born in Hodgeville, Sask. on October 31, 1925 and married her husband, Max on April 21, 1946. They have shared sixty-one wonderful years together and are an inspiration to all they have met. They moved to Calgary in 1957 where Rose was as a full time Mom and then later worked a number of years at Eaton's. Rose will be remember as a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother by her husband Max; daughter Anita (Bill) Chivers; daughter Sharon (Leith) Barber; grandchildren, Christopher (Michelle), Angela (Todd), Stephanie (Les), Todd (Stephanie); and great-grandchildren Danica, Brendan, Jaxon, Ryleigh, Maxwell, Jorga, Austin and Page. Rose was predeceased by her son, Robert; son-in-law Leith Barber; sister Betty and brother Ted Steinhauer. BIBE, Elaine May 13, 1921 - October 18, 2007 On Thursday, October 18, 2007 Elaine Bibe passed away peacefully at the Newport Harbour Care Centre at the age of 86 years. Elaine was born and raised in East St. Paul, Manitoba where she later met and married John on March 13, 1943. After raising three sons they moved to Calgary in 1974 where she managed an apartment complex until she retired. Elaine will be fondly remembered for her quick wit and remarkable sense of humor. Elaine was predeceased by her loving husband John (1999). She is survived by three sons and their spouses, Brian, Alan (Loree), Tim (Jane) and grandchildren Amber, Shannon and Dana. She is also survived by her sisters Jean Renton, June Hammill, brothers and sister-in-law, Dave (Ann) Derwent and Jim Ludwig as well as numerous relatives and friends. A special thanks to Dr. Stinton and the staff at Newport Harbour Care Centre. BROWNIE, Robert Austin November 5, 1938 - October 6, 2007 Robert Austin Brownie of Calgary passed away on Saturday, October 6, 2007 at the age of 68 years. Robert was born in Edmonton, Alberta to Austin and Jean Brownie. He was a senior petroleum and mechanical draftsman with both Petrofina and Petro Canada in Calgary before his retirement in 1997. He was an avid hobbyist and traveler who enjoyed visiting each of Canada's three oceans in addition to journeying to Central America, Europe and Africa. Robert volunteered for numerous organizations throughout his later life, including Meals on Wheels, the Volksmarch Club of Calgary, M.A.D.D., and the literacy program of the Calgary Public Library. Robert was a proud and loving father of his three children Rob (Annabel), Kerri-Lea (Derek) and Christopher and his grandson Kieran. He is also survived by his younger brother Don (Wendy) and his nephews and nieces. Robert was predeceased by his former wife Marilyn. Funeral Services were held at McInnis & Holloway's Park Memorial Chapel (5008 Elbow Drive S.W.). LIVINGSTONE, MURIEL M. - passed away peacefully on October 17th, 2007 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Muriel was the daughter of the late Andrew and Loretta (Gagon) Prisque of Liverpool, NS. She is survived by two sons, Fraser (Ashley) of Quispamsis and Byron (Kathy) of Rothesay; stepdaughter, Leigh Morgan of Toronto; sister, Lewella McIntyre of Saint John; granddaughter, Riley; and several nieces and nephews. Besides her mother and father, Muriel was predeceased by her husband, Bishop and sister, Lucille Burgess of Port Mouton, NS. Muriel Livingstone was an ardent follower of Tai Chi at the Taoist Tai Chi Society of Canada, she actively participated in a local art club, she also was intimately involved in the Saint John Clean Air Coalition. RUST, Lorraine Isabell 1933 - 2007 Lorraine "Corky" passed away peacefully at the Strathmore Hospital in the early hours of Monday, October 15, 2007. Lorraine was born in Calgary on March 14, 1933 and spent most of her life there. She was a student at Haultain School and enjoyed playing tennis. Lorraine's favorite role was being a Mom to Frank (Kathy), Laurie (Dale), Debra (Glenn), and Gordon (Nina). The role of mother was only surpassed later when Lorraine became a grandmother to Bob (Lyndsey), Kaitlynn, Macaleigh, Michelle, Taylor, Korrie, Lachlan, and great-grandmother to Aisley and Corbin. She loved being a grandmother. She was a very energetic person who thrived during her years as mother and homemaker. She gave each child the gift of self-reliance. Lorraine was a steadfast volunteer at her children's school with neighbor and friend Fran McWilliams. They joined the CAF Reserves when Lorraine was forty-one. During her time with the Reserves, Lorraine was promoted to Master Warrant Officer and took great pride in being a part of the Canadian Forces. Lorraine's patriotism continued through her involvement with the Royal Canadian Legion. She started the "Colour Party" at the Strathmore Legion in 1997 and it became an award winning part of the Legion. When Lorraine married Reg Rust, they spent twenty-four years dancing, traveling, golfing, and enjoying activities at the Legion. Special times were spent with Reg's children Lori (Bert), Tami (Danny), Joni (David) and Teri (Wade) as well as grandchildren Alex, Garrett and Hailey, Allysa and Josh, Cassandra and Jacob. Lorraine is survived by her sister Wendy and by many special friends. Sadly she was predeceased by her husband Reg on February 24, 2007 and by grandsons Billy and Jamie in 1992. (506) 458-9170 October 19, 2007 MacGILL, PROFESSOR NEIL WHYTE - The death of Professor Neil W. MacGill of Fredericton, NB occurred at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital on Wednesday, October 17, 2007. Born in Manchester, England, he was the son of the late John and Dorothy (Bardsley) MacGill. Neil attended Loretto School near Edinburgh and held master degrees from Cambridge, Edinburgh and Oxford Universities. He later moved to Canada and was invited to join the UNB Philosophy Department Residency. Prof. MacGill influenced generations of students as the don of Neill House from 1961 to 1966 and as resident fellow of Bridges House from 1966 until his retirement in 2000 after 39 years. Through his weekly Bridges House Forums, he introduced students to the intellectual side of residence life. In addition to teaching philosophy and chairing the philosophy department for 10 years, Prof. MacGill was a keen administrator. He was a dedicated member of the Board of Governors for 13 years and served on the UNB Senate for 30 years. Prof. MacGill was an accomplished educator and his impressive research record includes over 80 publications and papers. As an intellect, he was formidable. As an educator, he was regarded highly by his students and colleagues alike. For over four decades he held weekly meeting inviting many prominent guest speakers. Even after his retirement he continued to carry this through with his involvement in Stepping Stones. He later received the professor emeritus distinction award only to retired faculty members for honorary rank teaching performance of exceptional merit, extensive research and publication of unusually high quality. He was a member of the St. Andrews Society, St. George Society, Robert Burns Society and the Boards of Symphony New Brunswick and the Fredericton Playhouse. Neil was a long-standing supporter of his time and money for many of the Arts Societies in Fredericton and will be sadly missed. He is survived by one brother, John MacGill (Vivien) of England; nieces, Allison and Sarah and nephew, Jonathan. STUPPARD, Donald It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Donald McLeod Stuppard at the Mount Royal Care Centre (Calgary) where he resided along with Irene, his loving wife of fifty-seven years. Don, aged 83 years, was born and raised in Winnipeg. During his youth he spent many happy times at the family lake cottage at Husavick, Manitoba. He was predeceased by his brother-in-law Peter Jackin and in-laws Elsie and Nelson Leatherdale. He is survived by wife Irene, sister Norma Jackin, brother Robert Stuppard, uncle Sid Stimpson, cousins Sandra and Jack Koch, and Beryl and Bruce Bays. Many thanks to long-time friends Marjorie Miller and Dorothy Holmes for their love and support. Having worked in Winnipeg at Great West Life, and the Winnipeg Tribune, Don joined Chevron Oil Co. (Calgary) in 1956 and received several prestigious awards for his work as senior Economic Evaluation Specialist. Other associations included Honors Bachelor of Commerce - University of Manitoba, Delta Kappa Epsilon Fraternity, Canadian Petroleum Association, and the Calgary Professional Association. At retirement much time was spent on traveling to Scottsdale, Arizona where Don expanded his interest in painting. He also enjoyed many trips abroad. The family wish to thank Dr. verBeek and the staff at Mount Royal for their outstanding caring dedication to Don's well being and quality of life. WILSON, Roy Charles Stanley (Stan) January 1918 - October 2007 Stan Wilson passed away peacefully after a brief illness October 14. Stan is survived by his sons Robert, Allan (Sandy), Tom, and Steve (Jody), and his daughter Marsha and his special companion Georgie Willock. Stan was predeceased by his wife Hazel, his daughter Susan, and his grandson Joshua. He is also survived by his grandchildren Jaclynne and Sean Wilson, his brother Tom, and his sisters Hazel and Melba. Stan was born in England and came to Canada a year later. He traveled with his father and mother to various CPR postings in Canada, and finally stayed behind to make his way with the CPR in Calgary during the Depression. Stan married Hazel Folkins in 1941 and they lived an exemplary life and later raised five children. He served in the Canadian Navy during World War II and in 1946 rejoined the CPR. He worked any available shift and with discipline and initiative studied on his own to become a locomotive engineer. He earned the nickname "Miles" for his willingness to take any run - Medicine Hat, Lethbridge, Edmonton, or Field, BC. He was dedicated to his craft and was commended for his leadership many times, during accidents or with his conscientious service for both shipments and passengers. Stan will be remembered for his intelligence and humour, his excellent tennis skills, and his swimming. As a young man he swam across Lake Windermere, and two months before his passing he was still swimming laps three times a week. He will also be remembered for his continual support for his wife Hazel's extensive activities in the United Church, and for extended family camping vacations in BC. FEHRMANN, Gretel Johanna November 7, 1918 - October 15, 2007 Gretel Johanna Fehrmann of Calgary, passed away on Monday, October 15, 2007 at the age of 88 years. Gretel was born on November 7, 1918 in Tilsit, Germany and was married to Kurt Fehrmann on November 7, 1941. The family immigrated to Calgary in September 1954. Gretel will be remembered as a loving mother and special friend. Beulah Jones, of Rockwood Terrace, Durham, formerly of Hanover, passed away at her residence on Friday, October 12, 2007. She was born April 21, 1915 and was in her 93rd year. UREN, Dorothy Harrison ("Smiley") Our wonderful Mom and Grammy passed away in West Vancouver, British Columbia on September 28, 2007. Smiley or Dot were her lifelong names. She was born June 27, 1917 in Calgary, Alberta to John and Margaret Phillips and grew up there. An athlete of some repute, she met her husband Bill on the tennis courts of the Calgary Tennis Club. A long and happy life with good friends and family followed and we were blessed to have been part of their lives. Over their fifty-three years together, Mom and Dad lived in Calgary, on Flathead Lake, Montana and in Albuquerque, New Mexico, Laramie, Wyoming and Fort Collins, Colorado. Mom was predeceased by Dad and is survived by sons Richard (Mickey) in Laramie and John (Mary Joan) in West Vancouver, daughter Deborah (Jake) Jacobsen in Fort Collins; and by grandchildren Pamela (Athol, Idaho), Christopher (New York City), Timothy (Arcata, California), Meika (Toronto, Ontario), Cady (Washington, DC), Brady (Steamboat Springs, Colorado) and Meghan (Laramie). A Memorial Service will be held at Christ Church in Calgary with burial in Queen's Park the second week of June 2008. A reception in Elbow Park will follow. Friends and family are invited.
