McCABE, Dennis ("Denny") Born August 8, 1922 passed away peacefully and suddenly on Friday, October 5, 2007 at Columbia View Lodge after a brief and courageous battle with cancer. Born in Aberdeen, Scotland, Mr. McCabe came via ship to Canada in or about 1931 with his mother Christina and brother Peter (Paddy), then west from Montreal, Quebec by train to Trail, BC. Dennis left school after Grade 8 and went to work for the old Trail Smelter (later to be known as Teck Cominco) to help his parents support the family during the Great Depression. When Canada entered World War II in support of Great Britain, Mr. McCabe and his younger brother Jack joined the Volunteer Canadian Armed Forces serving with the Irish Fusuliers Regimental Pipe Band in Canada and Jamaica. Dad was later transferred to Calgary, AB for basic training and the Pacific Campaign. Fortunately for Garry and his sister Denise, the war ended and dad met his future wife and our beloved mother Jean Mary (LeBlanc) from Bassano, AB. Our parents were married on October 18, 1945 at Calgary. They returned to Trail, BC where Dennis resumed employment with Cominco until 1977 when he retired after thirty-nine years of service. Our father enjoyed fishing and camping trips, which we always referred to as a journey through "boot camp" and "roughing it". He was a real handyman at home with carpentry and a collector of "everything". Dennis and his five brothers were the foundation for the Balmoral Pipe Band. They enjoyed many years of successful competition in the West Kootenay area. Dad was an eager volunteer with the Royal Canadian Legion, especially with Remembrance Day (November 11) and the Poppy Fund. He is survived by his son Garry (Susan) of Calgary, AB and a daughter Denise (Sam) Biagioni of Warfield, BC; and two brothers Leonard (Jean) of Olds, AB and Raymond (Dottie) of Montrose, BC. He was predeceased by his wife of sixty-two years, Jean (LeBlanc) on August 1, 2007, a sister Rene of Aberdeen, Scotland, and three brothers John (Jack), Peter and Lawrence. Beloved husband and best friend for forty-two years of Mary. Loving father of Catherine (Karl), Maggie (Winslow) and Caroline (Christian). Grandfather of Isaac, Kaleb, Chloe and Thomas. Dear brother of Julian and uncle of nieces. Will be missed by other relatives and friends in Canada and England. Philip graduated from the University of Oxford in 1959. He was a teacher at the Polyvalente Macdonald Cartier High School in St. Hubert, Quebec from 1970 until his retirement in 1997. Prior to 1970, he taught in England, Switzerland and Africa. OBITUARY ERNEST ARTHUR WENSLEY 1942 - 2007 It is with deep sadness that the family announces the peaceful passing of Ernie at home on Wednesday, October 3, 2007, in his sixty-fifth year. Left to mourn are his loving and devoted wife of forty years, Marilyn (March), cherished children Terri and Neil (Jennifer) and apple of his eye, sweet granddaughter Isabella. Brother to Stan and the late Muriel, and uncle to many loving nieces and nephews. Ernie will be missed by many friends who showed so much kindness and concern over the past seven months while he was coping with his courageous battle. Ernie was born in Verdun, Quebec to his parents James and Ethel Wensley. He was an avid outdoorsman who grew up hunting and fishing on the St. Lawrence River. He passed along his love of the water and value of the nature to his children. Ernie joined Ross Whitehead in 1961 in the shipping room, became president in 1983, and owner in 1988. He held several positions with the textile Society of Canada. He was respected and well known in the industry. A celebration of his life and spirit will be held at the Candiac Community Center, 135 Handel Street, Candiac on Saturday, October 13 at 2 p.m., with a reception to follow. PUSHMAN, Marjorie Elizabeth (nee Anderson) Peacefully with her family at her side on Monday, October 8th, 2007 at The Hospice at May Court in Ottawa. Marjorie was predeceased by her beloved husband Donald and is survived by her daughter Ann (Robert Sayer) and by her sons Robert, Scott (Alison), Kent (Clemie), and by her grandchildren. Marj held a special love for her twin sister Jean Hay and all of her 'second family' in Vancouver, and she was grateful for the caring support of her sister-in-law Billie McCallum. Marj spent her last year in a battle with cancer but throughout that time was able to bring great joy to her family and friends. In the last months she showed immense courage and a gentle grace, and she will be missed by everyone who knew her. At Marj's request there will be no service or visitation. There will be a celebration of Marj's life in the near future and those wishing to attend are invited to leave a telephone message at Marj's number. A gathering of family and friends will be held at the time of her interment at Pinecrest Cemetery.
