HARVIE, Thomas Allan. (1919-2007). On September 7, 2007 at the Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital at the age of eighty-eight. Eldest son of the late Thomas White and Margaret (Blue) Harvie. He is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Barbara (Ward) and his sons Ronald, John and Timothy (Ann) and granddaughter, Karen. He is also survived by his brother, Murdoch and was predeceased by his sister, Jean. Tom was a graduate of McGill University and M.I.T. and was a wartime veteran of the R.C.A.F. He spent his business career at Canadair Limited in Montreal and the Barnes Group in Hamilton, Ontario; London, England and Bristol, Connecticut. He was a lifelong member of the Royal Montreal Golf Club and Montreal Badminton and Squash Club. A funeral service will be held at the Ward Funeral Home, 109 Reynolds St, Oakville, on Tuesday, September 11 at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital. MATHESON, FLORENCE ALMA - Peacefully at the Saint John Regional Hospital on September 7, 2007, Mrs. Florence Alma (Leavitt) Matheson, wife of Ernest A. Matheson Sr. of Back Bay NB. Born in Back Bay on October 26, 1919, she was a daughter of the late David and Elizabeth Sarah (Leslie) Leavitt. A loving wife, mother and grandmother she is survived by her loving husband of 68 years, Ernest; two daughters, Gail Gaudett and Sarah (John) Handspiker both of Back Bay; one son, Ernest Jr. (Belinda) Matheson of Halifax NS; six grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; as well as several foster grandchildren whom she loved dearly. Besides her parents she was predeceased by four brothers, Feston, Chester, Arthur and Roscoe; and three sisters, Addie Doucette, Emma Hooper and Clara Andrews. Florence was the last member of her immediate family. In early years, Florence worked for Connor's Bros. as a sardine packer. She was a member of the Seaview Full Gospel Church in Back Bay. Resting at the Seaview Full Gospel Church, Back Bay NB from where the service will be held on Monday at 2:00 pm with interment at the St. George Rural Cemetery. Visiting at the church on Saturday from 7 to 9 pm and on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. GAULEY, Georgina September 8, 1924 September 5, 2007 It is with great sadness and sorrow that we announce the quiet passing of our precious wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Georgina Doreen Gauley. Mom was born in Toronto. After marrying Alvin in 1945, the Gauley family moved to Red Rock, Ontario for 7 years, then moved to Crofton in 1957. Georgina was a loving, caring and supportive lady, giving her time to her family and volunteer work in various capacities in Crofton, Chemainus and Duncan. She was one of the Founding Members of the Crofton Auxiliary to the Chemainus Health Care Centre and was just recently recognized for fifty years of dedicated service. She will be deeply missed by her husband Alvin, son Jim (Veronica), daughter Lynn, granddaughter Christina (Rob), grandsons Michael (Christy), and Jay and her great-granddaughters Olivia and Charlotte. The family would like to thank Doctor Archdekin and the doctors and nurses in I.C.U. on the second and third floors of the Cowichan District Hospital for their care and support. CAUFIELD, Francis (Frank) - In loving memory of Francis (Frank) Caufield, who passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 26th, 2007 after a brief illness, surrounded by the love of his family. Frank grew up in Cobalt and, after graduating from the Haileybury School of Mines he worked for a brief period in Marlatic, Quebec and later moved to Sudbury to work at Falconbridge Nickel Mines. Upon his retirement he found himself in a wonderful new job as Papa (Pops) to his grandchildren Brandon, Brittany, Noah, Matthew, Aidan and most recently Elle. Pops loved his many roles as tour guide, driving instructor, gardener as well as arts and crafts coordinator with his grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by his loving wife Paulina (nee Balyta), his children Irene (Robert Cook), Natalie (Terry Luoma) and James (Lucia nee Tullio) all of Sudbury. Frank was predeceased by both his parents James and Elizabeth (nee MacDonald) Caufield. He was a cherished brother to Jean (Jim Bourgeois) of Nepean, John (Rosemary) of North Bay and Rosemary (Gerry Zielinski) of Oakville. Frank will also be missed by his two sisters- in-law Irene (Ted Archuticz) and Rose (Garry Tremblay). He was a beloved uncle to many nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews. At Frank's request a Celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, September 8th, 2007 between 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. at 343 Homewood Avenue, Sudbury. GUISE, Lorna (Hurley) - Her relentless battle against cancer ended Monday, August 27, 2007 at the “Bethesda Hospital“ in Steinbach, Manitoba. A person of great vitality! Bravery, strength and acceptance truly defined her morale. The love and devotion implemented by husband of 19 years, Danny Guise, was instrumental to her gentle passing. Lorna grew up in Echo Bay, ON with loving parents Arvella Hurley and the late Calvin, sister Carol (Jim Findlay) and brother Wesley Hurley. For many years to follow, she resided in S.S.M. as a devoted mother to daughter Kathy (late Anthony Politano) and son late Dean James Morrison, then a grandmother to Kasey and Zackary Politano. BRYDGES, William Scott (Scotty) - Peacefully at the Hotel Dieu Shaver Hospital on Wednesday, September 5, 2007 in his 73rd year. He is survived by his wife Verna (nee Jackson); his loving son Jeffery, daughter Sherry and her husband Dan Laferriere. Scott retired from Bell Canada in 1991. He was a member of the Historical Automobile Society of Canada, and his love for the outdoors and nature was reflected in his hobbies which included fishing and hunting. He also had a great appreciation for life in general and the people and animals around him. Cremation has taken place. HANNAH, Edith (McCutcheon) - Edith went home to be with her Lord on Friday, September 7, 2007 at the St. Catharines General Hospital. She was predeceased by her husband Charlie in 1993, as well as parents Robert and Elmera McCutcheon and siblings Lyle and Sheldon McCutcheon and Verna Collier all of Manitoba. Loving mother of Verna Mae (John) Wallace of Bancroft, Barry (Jean) Hannah of Beamsville, Eileen (Ellis) Moore of St. Anns, Clark (Barb) Hannah of Beamsville, Mary (John) Colyn of Tintern and Ruth (Charles) James of Surrey, B.C. Lovingly remembered by her 21 grandchildren, 44 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren. Edith and Charlie moved from Manitoba in 1937 and raised their family in Tintern where Charlie owned and operated Hannah's Garage beginning in 1940 and continued as the local mechanic for almost 30 years. Edith was a member of the Tintern and Fenwick churches of Christ. She was also a member of the WAVES of Great Lakes Christian College. Edith had spent the last 7 years of her life at the home of her daughter and son in law Mary and John Colyn and her children visited daily helping with her care. She kept busy knitting, quilting and crocheting quilts and afghans and was examining crochet patterns during the past week. Edith had planned to produce beautiful doilies for her beloved family. She enjoyed the daily visits by the wonderful “Home Care (Red Cross)“ ladies who came with their sunny dispositions and loving help. We are most thankful for her 97 years of kindness and love for others. Her well-read books were continually shared and her determination, positive disposition and righteous life brought joy to our hearts. The family will receive friends at the VINELAND CHAPEL of the TALLMAN FUNERAL HOMES, 3277 King St. on Monday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The Funeral Service will be held at the Beamsville Church of Christ, 4900 John St. on Tuesday, September 11th at 1 p.m. Interment will follow at Vineland Cemetery. RAHAM, Rev. Josephine Norma Pearl - Born November 30, 1921. Norma left us on September 6, 2007 at the age of 85 years to join her husband Bill who passed away in 1999. Wishing them a happy reunion are her children Karen (Leroy), David (Kim) and Beverly (Richard); her grandchildren Dianna, Robert, Sarah, Laura, Tyler, Nelson and Paris; and great-grandchildren Katelyn, Connor and Lily. Norma is predeceased by her parents Arne and Florence (Dunn) Johnson; first husband Henry Malmoe, Norwegian Air Force Pilot who was killed in action WWII; daughter Hope (1953) and son John Malmoe (1998). Mom always had a great appetite for knowledge and experience. As well as raising four children she was active in amateur and professional theatre, women's editor at CKTB St. Catharines which included a regular column for the St. Catharines Standard. Norma ran for provincial parliament, taught high school and at age 67 achieved ordination as a Minister of the United Church of Canada. The family wishes to thank the staff of The Village of Winston Park Long Term Care Facility in Kitchener for the excellent care of their mother, they are indeed angels. SHEEHAN, Michael Joseph - Passed away at the age of 92 years on September 5th, 2007 in St. Catharines, Ontario. He is survived by his sons James, Thomas, daughter Eileen, several grandchildren and his extended family in the U.K. and U.S.A. Michael was a native of Liverpool, England. He was a merchant seaman at a young age and served in WWII in the Navy and Black Watch regiment. Michael was a survivor of the sinking of the HMS Lancastria at Normandy, and was a Seaman's Union activist. He was also a founder of the Canadian Maritime Union and participated in the Norris Upper Lakes Royal Commission in the early 1960's. He later became successful in Quebec business and was a life long political antagonist. The family extends their appreciation to the staff of the St. Catharines General Hospital-NHS. She will be sadly missed by her sister Maria, in Italy and especially by her brother in law and sister in law Vincenzo and Maria Fazzalari and their children Frank and Debbie, Anna and Butch, Rita and George, Nancy and Ian and Carlo and Anne and all of their children. Carmela was a quiet and content woman who enjoyed her family and friends, her church, her home and her neighbourhood.
