Carl Samuel Herbst, beloved husband of the former Ruth Ellis of Normanby Township, passed away at the South Bruce Grey Health Centre in Walkerton on Monday, August 27, 2007, in his 87th year. Dear father of John Herbst of Normanby Township, Linda Aberle and John of Mildmay and Michael Herbst and Sharon of Normanby Township. Also survived by seven grandchildren, Tammy Kieswetter and John, Tina Shepherd and Jason Brooker, Tracey Shepherd and Ron Seegmiller, Kim Aberle, Jordan Aberle, Karleigh Herbst and Mitchell Herbst; six great-grandchildren, Nicholas, Joshua, Paige, Peyton, Sydney and Daniel; two sisters, Sadie Brusso and Noah of Normanby Township and Marie Foerster and Milton of Hanover; sisters-in-law Anna Douglas and Stuart, Phyllis Glaze, Lorna Greenwood and Perry, Pearl Herbst and Helene Herbst, and brothers-in-law Bob Ellis and Betty and Joe Murawsky. Predeceased by two brothers, Allan and Fred Herbst, sister-in-law Betty Murawsky and brother-in-law Jack Ellis and Grace. Friends were received at the Garrett Funeral Chapel in Clifford until 12 noon on Thursday, August 30, 2007, then to St. John’s Lutheran Church, Clifford for funeral services at 2 pm. Interment St. James’ Lutheran Cemetery, Lauderbach. Reverend Mark Koehler officiated. The pallbearers were Michael Herbst, John Aberle, Jordan Aberle, Tammy Kieswetter, Tina Shepherd and Tracey Shepherd. The flower bearers were Kim Aberle, Karleigh Herbst, Mitchell Herbst and Paige Brooker.

LAWRENCE, Elaine - Peacefully at Marshall Gowland Manor on September 6, 2007, Beryl Elaine Lawrence (Arnold), age 92. Beloved wife of the late (1989) Engineer Commander Norman V. Lawrence, Royal Indian Navy. Dear mother of Julie (Ian Campbell), Penny (Joachim Knackstedt), Richard (Ruth), and Rodney (Debra). Predeceased by sons Peter (1940) and Christopher (1970). Loving Grandma of Alison (Mike), Graeme, Jen (Todd), Mark (Kate), Trent, Dane, Matthew, Nathan, Michael, Rebecca, Jonathan and Elizabeth, Great-grandma of Kaitlyn. Elaine was born in Bristol, England. Before World War II, she moved as a young bride to join her husband in India and Pakistan. Eventually she moved back to England with their young children, while her husband was still commissioned abroad. Later the family emigrated to Toronto, and in 1963 they moved to New Zealand. She lived 26 years in New Zealand before finally moving to Sarnia with her husband to be close to their children. Elaine had a life-long interest in the arts. She was an active member of the Sarnia Artists' Workshop, and was known for her demonstrations of bobbin lace at public events. “Lady Lawrence“, as she was nicknamed, was a gracious lady who was loved by all. Special thanks to all the wonderful staff of Marshall Gowland Manor, especially Ineke and Christine, for their loving care and compassion. MIATELLO, John “Johnny“ - In loving memory of John “Johnny“ Miatello. It is with sadness that we announce the passing of John “Johnny“ Miatello in his 83rd year, Wednesday, September 5th, 2007 at the Sudbury Regional Hospital - Laurentian Site. He is survived by his wife of 61 years Anne (nee Ranich). He is also survived by his children Donald John of London, Susan of Edmonton, Beverly and her spouse Claude St. George of London, and Robert (Bob) of London. He is also survived by his 2 granddaughters Judy and her spouse Al Stewart of Kitchener, and Melinda Miatello of London, and his 2 great grandsons Dylan and Jake Stewart of Kitchener. He is also survived by his sister Agnes Lachance of Espanola and his brothers and sister-in-law Steve and his spouse Teenie Ranich of Sudbury and Emily and her spouse Eddie Lukie of Sudbury. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews in Espanola and Sudbury. Predeceased by his parents Angelo and Maria Miatello of Espanola and his in-laws Andy and Julia Ranich of Sudbury. His brother-in-law Rheal Lachance of Espanola and his nephew Dennis Lukie of Sudbury. Dad worked at INCO for 42 years in a variety of jobs, mostly in Transportation where he drove the locomotives. He ended his career working as a Surface Boss for the last 12 years. Dad was a proud life long member of the Royal Canadian Legion. He had a deep and profound respect and admiration for our veterans especially those that made the ultimate sacrifice. Remembrance Day was always very special to him. It was through the Legion that he developed his love of darts. He was very proficient and won many championships. He proudly represented Sudbury often at the Senior games. A recreation room full of trophies and gold medals is testament to his success. His proudest achievement however were his children. They were a never ending source of pride to him. He was both a gentleman and a gentle man, and this was readily apparent to all who met him. He will be missed by everyone that knew him. In keeping with Dad's wishes there will be no visitation. Cremation and interment at Park Lawn Cemetery. Details entrusted to LOUGHEED FUNERAL HOME, 252 Regent St., Sudbury. FLORA, Antonina “Tina“ (Marcolini) - In loving memory of Antonina “Tina“ (Marcolini) Flora, who passed away Thursday, September 6th, 2007 at the SRH Laurentian Site, at the age of 81 years. She was born in Sudbury and married Elio Flora in 1948 in Sudbury. Prior to raising her family Tina worked in the office of the Sudbury Construction & Machinery Co. for several years. A devout Roman Catholic she attended St. Pius X Church and belonged to the parish CWL. She enjoyed playing bridge and refurnishing furniture. Tina will be remembered as a truly good person who was devoted to her loving family. Beloved wife of Elio Flora of Lively. Loving mother of Michael predeceased 1968, Anna-Marie (husband William Megraw) of Mississauga and David of Sudbury. Cherished grandmother of Laura, Michael and Christopher. JANS, Josef - Born Josef Janzekovitsch on March 8, 1913 in Turskivrh, in the Province of Slovania in the former Yugoslavia. Josef passed away on the 5th day of September, 2007. Josef came to Toronto, Canada after the war in 1949 where he met and married Katherina Gauder in April 1950. They lived in Toronto and eventually moved to the then Township of Innisfil, just south of Barrie, Ontario, where Kathe Jans became involved in politics and Josef became her “chauffeur.” Kathe and Joe were married for 45 years when Kathe passed away. Josef is survived by their only child, a daughter, Ilona, her husband James Rogers of Toronto, and his two grandchildren, Kathe Rogers of Toronto, and James Josef Rogers of Montreal. Josef was a pilot for the Yugoslavian Air Force during World War II and for a short time was a member of the Army, Navy Air Force, Unit # 365, Barrie. Josef's final years were spent at St. Joseph's Hospital and Home which, when torn down, became the new St. Joseph's Health Centre, in Guelph, Ontario. The family wishes to express their appreciation to each and every person who touched Josef's life during his years at St. Joe's, be you doctor, nurse, cook, cleaner, volunteer, staff, etc., as each and every one of you added years to Josef's life and made his last days on earth enjoyable. To the manager, Fitwi, and former and present staff of Swiss Chalet, Woodlawn Road, Guelph, as well as Campbell and Mary Round, thank you for 15 years of Sunday lunches that each of you made so enjoyable for all of us. To everyone else who knew and loved Josef, thank you for being part of his life's history. Josef was cremated and joins Kathe in their niche wall at the Innisvale Cemetery and Crematorium (Innisfil Beach Road and the 400 Highway). A Service of Remembrance will be held at St. Joseph's Health Centre, 100 Westmount Road, Guelph, Ontario, on the 24th day of October, 2007 at 2:00pm. MASON, Margaretta A. (Mario/Larter) July 15th, 1920 - September 5th, 2007 Gently and silently on Wednesday evening, amid the embraces of family and friends, Marge released her grasp on life following a long battle with multiple health challenges. Her departure leaves a rift in the hearts of her beloved grandchildren, Tara, Helen, Cheryl and Elizabeth; her sons Josh and Stephen, and her daughter Lynn. Her dear daughter-in-law, friend and tireless helper Anita and "married-in" family John Tarzwell, Andrew Brand, and Vivian Mason also shared a special bond with her. Predeceased by her first husband, William Joshua Larter (killed in action - Italy, 1943), by her husband of 57 years, Edgar Mason (2002), and by nine brothers and sisters, Marge's last remaining sibling, Doretta, was by her side at the end. She was a kind, sympathetic, and generous person, always ready to listen to the thoughts and problems of young people of all ages, who will miss her patience, good advice and wonderful sense of humour. STINSON, John Daniel Age 82, of 34 Seguin Street in Ottawa, died quietly on Wednesday, September 5, 2007. Mr. Stinson was born in Cobourg and was a retired Radiation Technologist for the National Research Council. Mr. Stinson was the son of the late Harold Stinson and the late Marie Stinson (L'Esperance). Mr. Stinson was also predeceased by 2 sisters and 3 brothers. Mr. Stinson is survived by his wife of 52 years, Mrs. Iris Stinson, his daughters, Tracy Mellings of Ottawa and Judy Stricharuk of St. Catharines; Sons-in-law: Ian Mellings and Ron Stricharuk; his 4 grandchildren: Christy, Erica, Lenny and Danielle and his 2 great-grandchildren: Darcy and Tyler. Also, survived by 2 sisters: Mary and Rosemarie of Cobourg; one brother Bill of Kingston. The family request that memorial donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Helen Ann Monaghan (nee Simboli) was in her eighty-first year. Helen who originally hailed from Montreal and Rockwood, currently resided in London, Ontario. SCULLION Fintan Michael. 1957-2007. Died peacefully on Sept. 2, 2007 at Fleury Hospital after a short brave fight with cancer. Michael was the son of the late John & Ann Scullion. He leaves behind his son Blake Brazeau and his daughter Keri Scullion. He will also be greatly missed by his brother Anthony of Ottawa, Patricia of Saint John, N.B., and Bridget Karol of Montreal as well as his nephews Carter Thompson & Matthew Karol and niece Jordan Thompson. GESNER, WINNIFRED AUDREY The passing of Winnifred Audrey Gesner , of Fredericton, NB wife of Neil Gesner, occurred on Thursday, September 6, 2007 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital. Born on May 1, 1923 in Burtt's Corner, NB, she was the daughter of the late Gordon and Gladys (Bull) MacLean. Winnifred enjoyed keeping her flowers and painting her crafts. She loved animals but most of all she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. In addition to her husband Neil, Winnifred is survived by her son, Garvice of Fredericton, NB; sister, Inez Gesner of Woodstock, NB; grandchildren Grant (Janice) and Gordie (Cheyanne) Gesner both of Fredericton, NB; great grandchildren, Erik, Matthew, Nolan and Grace and several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her son, Girvan; brother, Eugene and daughter-in-law, Violet. Although there will be no public visitation, a private family service will take place from York Funeral Home's T.
