HIRSCH: Edward Lloyd 1929 - 2007 Edward Hirsch passed away at the David Thompson Health Region in Drumheller with his family by his side on August 27, 2007 after a courageous battle with cancer at the age of 78. Left to mourn is his wife Willa; son Robin (Karen) of Calgary; daughter Kendel Ryan (James) of Red Deer; three grandchildren, Jason and Bradley Ryan and Jena Hirsch. Also survived by his brother, Mathew (Lila) of Medicine Hat. Edward was predeceased by his parents, Robert and Elizabeth Hirsch, two brothers Francis and Peter and sister, Gloria. Edward was born on the farm near Lampman, SK June 16, 1929. He moved to Rosedale, AB at the age 19, worked in the coal mines and decided that was not the life for him. He bought his first gravel truck in 1956 and that became his life as a trucker until he retired in 2004. As we travelled the many roads in Alberta, he would recall paving that road in what year it was first paved or re-paved. He made many friends in all walks of life throughout the years and will be sadly missed by all. By special request, there will be no funeral or memorial services held. ROSGEN: Peter Allen Peter Allen Rosgen passed away peacefully on the 31st of August, 2007 after a long battle with brain cancer, at the age of 62. Peter was predeceased by his father Wilfred in 1985. He is survived by his wife Barbara; mother Marie; children Mark (Brandi), Greg (Lynnette), Bradford, Kate and David (Meagen); sisters Lorraine (Bob) Gillis, Sharon (Tom) Seaborn and Dianne (Jack) Lowe; mother of his children Anne Rosgen. Peter also leaves behind his beloved grandchildren Braelynn, Rhett and Alexa; many nieces and nephews; in-laws Svend and Marie Andersen; step-children Tracy (Tom) Christie and Steven (Tamara) Mirbach; their children Cole, Chase, Justin and Shae-Lynn. Peter was dedicated to providing for his family. From an early age he worked along side his mother and father building the family farm, contributing to the Hereford industry world-wide. Peter worked laboriously towards being a progressive and successful grain farmer. Peter’s hard-work and dedication became evident in the 60’s when Rosgen Herefords began showing and selling champion stock and seed grains. Peter was very proud in 1974, placing Grand Champion, Reserve Grand Champion and the high selling bull at the Calgary Bull Sale – all with three different bulls. Although there have been many more awards both for cattle and grain, Peter was most proud of the friendships created within the agriculture industry with his fellow breeders, farmers and neighbours. Peter eagerly organized many gatherings and parties, with his cherished family, friends and neighbours either at the Rural School, in the pasture or at his home. These friendships, achievements and awards were only second to his family. Peter taught his children to learn by “holding the flashlight” or working alongside. His children’s fondest memories of their father are set in the barnyard or on a tractor. Peter was most proud to claim the legacy that his father started was now in its fourth generation. A celebration of his life will be held at St Anne of the Prairies, Roman Catholic Church in Trochu, Alberta, Saturday, September 8th, 2007 at 11 am, reception to follow at the Trochu Baptist Fellowship Centre. AISAICAN, Phyllis Pearl Aisaican passed away on Sunday, September 2, 2007 at the Regina General Hospital at the age of 67 years. She was born on Cowessess First Nation in 1940. She passed away peacefully with her family by her side. Phyllis was predeceased by her mother, Blanche; husband, Francis; daughter, Janelle and son, Brendon. BERNASKI, PAUL - A lifetime resident of Regina passed away peacefully at the age of 87 years on the morning of September 1, 2007 after a lengthy illness. He was predeceased by his first wife Germaine (Dusterbeck) in 1960; brothers Adam and Frank and sister Millie (Schumacher) all of Regina. Paul leaves to mourn his passing Elizabeth, his wife of 40 years; his son Robert (Hope) of Regina; his grandsons Danny (Chris) of Winnipeg and Neil (Gillian) of Regina and granddaughter Kelly of Calgary. He is also survived by his brothers Tony and John of Regina and sister Anne of Calgary. DORNSTAUDER, Henry (Hank). September 5, 1926 September 3, 2007. Sportsman, Outdoorsman, Teacher. Hank Dornstauder died Labour Day after a brief battle with lung cancer. Hank was born September 5, 1926 in Vibank, Saskatchewan, the tenth child of Christof and Carolina Dornstauder. Predeceased by his parents, and siblings William, John, Tony, Alex, Frank, Nicolas, Joseph, Elizabeth, Edward, Eleanore, Alfred. Hank is survived by brothers Al (Beverley) and Frank (NoraAnne), and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Hank was an excellent athlete, excelling both in hockey and baseball. He came into his own with the Notre Dame Hounds in the 1950's and continued to develop his hockey skills at Mount Allison University. He played both sports throughout much of his teaching career, which started in Bienfait and ended in Maidstone. Hank was also an avid fisherman and spent many enjoyable summers at Big Island Lake with family, nieces and nephews. Many thanks to the medical professionals especially those at the Maidstone hospital, for making his final days so comfortable. Also, a special thank you to the Maidstone Homecare Staff who enabled Hank to enjoy his own home for so many more years. KLEIN, Gary-1951-2007 Gary Klein passed away peacefully on September 2nd, 2007 at the Oilfields Hospital, in Black Diamond at the age of 56 years. Garry is survived by his loving wife of 36 years Sherry. He is also survived by his mother Kay Klein of Calgary his two children Theresa (Jay) McLaren, and Steven Klein along with four grandchildren, Wesley, Amanda, Cadence and Darian. Gary is also survived by three siblings Valerie (Rick) Eckstein, Victor (Caryl) Klein and Kelly Klein. Gary was predeceased by his father Valentine Klein. BRYANTON, Nora - On September 4, 2007 Nora Bryanton entered into God's garden at the age of 77. Nora leaves Ralph, her husband of 55 years, to carry on her zest for life along with her children, Rob (Gail), Lorraine (Russell Littlemore), Dan (Sharon), David (Denise) and her grandchildren, Scott (Lindsay), Todd (Audra), Jamie (Tracy), Mark, Matthew, Mike, Sean, Dylan, Adam, Sarah, Riley and her canine pal Bonnie. BARRON, L. Mary 1929 - 2007 L. Mary Barron passed away quietly on Friday, August 31, 2007 in the company of her family. She was born in Calgary on November 24, 1929 and lived here all her life. She was predeceased by her son John Barron; John's father, Alfred Barron; brother Bill Lynch; and mother and father, Robert and Lucille Lynch. She is survived by her sister Patricia Way (Harlow); brother Michael Lynch (Merl); sister Margaret Larsen (John) and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Mary was a well known Petroleum Landman, having worked for a number of oil companies including Sun Oil, Dome Petroleum, United Canso and Imperial Oil. She was a long-standing member of The Canadian Association of Petroleum Landmen. After she retired in 1992, she enjoyed the company of her many friends in SAGs and traveled extensively. DICK, William January 29, 1924 - September 2, 2007 Bill, of Calgary, passed away on Sunday, September 2, 2007 at the age of 83 years. Bill was born on January 29, 1924 in Smoky Lake, AB. He graduated from Queen's University in 1946 with a degree in Mining Engineering. After graduation Bill worked in various gold and copper mines in Ontario, Quebec, and NWT. Later he obtained a Teaching Certificate and taught High School for one year in Simcoe, ON. Subsequently he acquired a Chartered Accountants designation and was employed as an Auditor for seventeen years with Revenue Canada in Edmonton, AB, retiring in 1992. Bill was an avid golfer and enjoyed bowling. Bill is survived by his three brothers and two sisters-in-law, John, Arnold and Barbara, all of Calgary, and Eugene and Twinkie, of Lethbridge, AB; as well as several nieces, nephews and friends. He was predeceased by his parents Paul and Doris Dick and a sister-in-law Dorothy Dick. JENKINS, Douglas Graham February 6, 1950 - September 3, 2007 Doug Jenkins of Cochrane passed away at the Sarcee Hospice on Monday, September 3, 2007 at the age of 57 years following a courageous battle with cancer. Doug was born in Calgary and spent thirty-five years as a tail wheel and aerobatic instructor. He served four years as president of the Alberta Aerobatic Club. Doug was a member of COPA, the Aerobatic Club of Canada, and the International Aerobatic Club, for which he was a certified Regional Judge. Doug was a "car guy" and owned several classic cars, and participated in many "show and shines". Hockey was his favourite sport, and he played with the Monteray Old Timers for the past twenty years. He will be sadly missed by his many friends and students. Doug is survived by his loving parents Joyce of Calgary and Bob of High River; his brother and sister-in-law, Rick and Penny; and his cousins Pamela, Mike and Sarah-Jane Stevenson, all of Calgary. Doug leaves behind his dearly loved friend and caregiver Lynda. JOHNSTON, Warrant Officer William Angus CD November 16, 1925 - August 30, 2007 Bill was born and raised south of Earl Grey, SK. He enlisted in the RCAF in November of 1943 and received a medical discharge on September 1944. Bill then enlisted in the Canadian Army on January 23, 1949. He served in Churchill, MB from 1949 to 1950. Bill remustered to the medical corps in 1951 until he transferred to the 1st Service Battalion in 1970. His duty stations included Rivers, MB, Camp Borden, ON, Port Arthur, ON, and his final stop was Calgary in 1968. Highlights of his service included a tour of duty in the Korean War from July 1951 to September 1952 and the United Nations Peace Keeping Force, Middle East from September 1974 to March 1975. Bill retired from the army on May 3, 1976. His next career was the Materials Manager for Johnson Controls from 1978 to 1990. Bill "Angus" married Grace Christina Chrichton in April 1954 in Camp Borden, ON. They retired to the golf course in Vulcan, Alberta in 1990. Bill is predeceased by his parents, William Henry and Catherine Annie Johnston, brother Francis John Johnston, sister Margaret Burrows, brothers-in-law Alex Burrows and Jake Hubick, and first grandson Gordon Christopher Shaw. Bill is survived by his wife, Grace; children, Pat Shaw, Don, Andy, Diane and Mo Johnston; grandchildren, Kyle and Sara Shaw and Mick Johnston; great-granddaughter Starla Shaw; sister Mary Hubick; brother Wesley Johnston; sisters-in-law Bea Johnston and Donna Vance; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. McANDREW, Hazel Agnes July 10, 1909 - September 1, 2007 Hazel passed away after a long and fulfilled life of 98 years in the George Boyack Nursing Home in Calgary, Alberta. Vivian was born January 21, 1935 the youngest of the farming Ference family from Borden, SK. She was married July 25, 1953 to Irvin Smithson. In 1959, she and her family moved to Calgary and helped to establish and promote the Crossroads Community Association. VIRK, Ajit Singh 1927 - 2007 Surrounded by his family, Ajit Singh Virk, beloved husband of Surjit Virk of Punjab, India, passed away at the age of 79 years at the Peter Lougheed Centre on September 3, 2007, after natural causes showing the same courage he displayed his entire life. He will be remembered for his beaming smile, warm personality and leadership within his family and among his community. He loved his career as a teacher, and his greatest accomplishment was instilling the value of education in those that were close to him; all of his grandchildren have completed or are in the midst of university education. Widely amusing his family with his trademark antics - his punctuality, stubbornness, sweet tooth, love of fitness and ability to inspire - he will always be endearingly remembered. TROTTIER, Raymond (Ray) George September 11, 1931 - September 2, 2007 Ray Trottier, beloved husband of Ruth Trottier of Calgary, passed away on Sunday, September 2, 2007 at the age of 75 years. Ray was born in Laurier, MB on September 11, 1931. The family moved from Manitoba to British Columbia in 1945 and then to Calgary residing in the Bowness area in 1946. He was a licensed mechanic specializing in electrical tune up work. Later he repaired equipment for the Calgary Fire Department eventually servicing the oxygen equipment for the Fire Department and the ambulance division. Ray retired in 1984. He loved to go hunting, especially big game, as well as camping and travelling. He was very talented in fixing and repairing things - a real life "Mr. Fix It". Ray is lovingly remembered by his wife of fifty-three years Ruth; daughters and sons-in-law, Debra and Stephen Wilson and Darlene and Rob Harris; son and daughter-in-law, Roy and Midge Trottier; granddaughters, Jessica, Mariah and Danielle; two sisters, Delphine Meredith and Lorraine Perry; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. HOLLINGSHEAD, Gordon 1925 - 2007 Gordon Hollingshead passed away on September 2, 2007 at Foothills Medical Center in Calgary surrounded by his loving family. He is survived by his dear wife Maxine, his four children - Barry (and wife Kelly-Anne, daughters Emily and Melina), Brian (and wife Harriet, sons Michael and David), Don, Barbara (and husband Ken Yates, daughters Erin and Lauren), his younger brother Dennis Hollingshead (Aurora, ON), and his sister Marlene Johnson (Sherwood Park, AB). Gordon was born in Westlock, Alberta in 1925, graduated from University of Alberta with BSc in chemistry, worked as a geophysicist for Gulf Oil and proudly served in the Canadian Reserve Air Force. He was an active member of the Reform Party from its inception, and in 2002 was awarded the Queen Elizabeth II Golden Jubilee Medal. Gordon served as a Boy Scout leader, presided over the Calgary chapter of the Amateur Radio Relay League, was a talented photographer (and printer), woodworker, stone mason, writer, teacher, watercolourist, horticulturist and was generally a handy fellow with an inventive nature.
