SCHOLES, Peter V. Died peacefully, at age eighty on September 4th, 2007 at the Kingston General Hospital after a short illness bravely borne. Loved and loving husband to Audrey (Jackson). Loving brother to Mary Payne, and John, Andrew, and Rev. Fr. Bernard of England, and Tess (Alan Cormack) of Qualicum Beach, B.C. Predeceased by his brother Frank of Burlington, ON. Aurele (Oscar) Leger MEMRAMCOOK, NB - Aurele Leger of Foyer St-Thomas passed away at the Foyer on Tuesday, September 4, 2007 at the age of 92. Born in Moncton, he was the son of the late Alfred Leger and the late Malvina Gaudet. He worked as a Bus Driver for S.M.T. He was a veteren of the second world war and was a Legion member of Branch # 89 Memramcook. He is survived by three daughters, Doris (Bill) Day-Luce of Grand Barachois, Mary (Pat) Fournier of Dartmouth, N.S., Denise (Sharon, long time friend) Leger of Moncton; three sisters, Sylvie and Aline Leger of Dieppe, Marie (late Arthur) LeBlanc of Memramcook; five grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Lorraine (LeBlanc) Leger (1989); four sisters, Geneva, Catherine, Celina LaViolette, Catherine LeBlanc; one brother, Victor Leger. Visitation will be held at Dupuis Funeral Home, 15 Rte La Vallee, Memramcook on Wednesday, September 5 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm and Thursday September 6 from 9:30 to 10:30 am. GALLAGHER, VERA ELMIRA (MOREHOUSE) The passing of Vera Elmira (Morehouse) Gallagher, wife of the late Ottie Gallagher, occurred on Tuesday, September 4, 2007 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital. Born April 5, 1920, in Stone Ridge, NB, daughter of the late Jesse and Dora Morehouse and wife of the late Ottie Ross Gallagher. Vera was a member of St. John Evangelist Church, Fredericton, past president of St. John's Guild and past member of the Nashwaaksis Lionettes Club and Imperial Rebecca Lodge #102. She was an avid bowler for many years, loved to play Bingo and did a variety of needlework including quilting. She also loved to cook, along with being a meticulous homemaker. Vera enjoyed her last few months at the Cutis Special Care Home and really appreciated all they did for her. She is survived by three children, Marie Merrithew (Fred), Mae Goold (Ron) and Dale Gallagher (Marlina) all of Fredericton; ten grandchildren, Deborah Owens (Joe) of London, On, Michael Merrithew (Louise deGrandpre) and Constance Merrithew (Kevin Deeprose) of Toronto, ON, Steven Barr (Toby) Moncton, NB (Her Special Caregivers) and Donna Penney (Derek) of Fredericton, Fred Barr (Jane Nichols) and Derrick Barr (Helen) of Saint John, Richard Gallagher (Lynn) and Patricia Dupuis (Des) of Fredericton, Martina Gillies (Shawn Wyle) of Windsor, NS; eighteen great-grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter, Rebecca Andersen; several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-laws including one special sister-in-law, Edith Gallagher and several nieces and nephews. Besides her husband and parents, Vera was predeceased by three brothers, Melvin, James and Eugene Morehouse and infant sister, Clara. Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive, Fredericton, NB on Wednesday, September 5, 2007 from 7-9 pm. A Funeral Service will take place at the St. John the Evangelist Anglican Church on Thursday, September 6, 2007 at 3:30 pm with Canon Bill MacMullin officiating. Pare, Randall "Randy" At Tillsonburg District Memorial Hospital on Monday, September 3, 2007, Randall "Randy" Pare of Langton at the age of 54. Beloved husband of Sharon (nee Eyre). Loving father of Jennessa Pare of Langton and Danielle Philipson (Jake) of Kincardine, and proud Papa of Tyler Pare. GARDNER: Kirk Joseph 1964 -2007 We are saddened to announce the sudden passing of Kirk Gardner on August 28, 2007. Kirk was born January 22, 1964 in Mission City, B.C. He was predeceased by his brother Greg and his father Joseph. "Gerry" Arsenault, domiciliée à la Villa Providence de Shédiac, mais autrefois de Moncton, rue High. Né à Sainte-Marie-de-Kent, elle était fille de feu Hector J. Cormier et de feu Élise Breau. Zélia était ancienne présidente du club Curling Beauséjour Inc., et des clubs de Golf Pine Needles et Lakeside, ancienne secrétaire de la ligue de femmes du Club de Curling Beaver. Zélia était une joueuse de golf et de curling. Elle était réceptioniste dentaire avant sa retraite. Elle sera beaucoup manquée par ses quatre filles: Lydia Arsenault de Moncton, Simone Arsenault et Carmen Marshall (Stephen) tous de Riverview, et Yolande Arsenault de Ottawa; un fils, Vincent (Danielle) de Moncton; trois soeurs: Hélène Comeau de Weymouth, N.-É., Sr. Lorraine Cormier, n.d.s.c. et Sr. Rose-Aimée Cormier, n.d.s.c. de Moncton; deux frères: Père Noël Cormier, Eudiste de Québec, QC., et Laurie Cormier de Dieppe; neuf petits-enfants, ainsi que quatre arrière-petits-enfants. BAILEY Violet Mildred (Millie) May 16, 1927_August 31, 2007 After a brief illness, Millie passed away peacefully at St. Paul's Hospital, Saskatoon on August 31, 2007 at the age of 80 years. Millie leaves to mourn her husband, George, of 58 years; daughter, Georgie (Dave) Chikowski; grandchildren, Curtis and Trevor Chikowski, and Tonya, Jeff and Kristen Allard; 3 great grandchildren; brother, Don (Marie) Flavel; sister, Edna Flavel; and nephew, Ken (Donna) Flavel. Millie was predeceased by her daughter Brenda Allard. Millie was born in the Marieton District and later moved to Regina. She married her long time companion, George, in 1949. Millie worked in sales for a number of years at The Robert Simpson Co., later Sears. Over the years Mom hosted many family gatherings. She prided herself in her baking and cooking, especially at Christmas and New Years, her coffee pot was always on. The grandchildren were the apple of Millie's eye and her "Goldenjet" made many trips to Winnipeg to bring them back for holidays. Millie had a special place in her heart for animals, especially dogs. In her later years her poodle, Tammy, was her constant companion. The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Sylwestrowicz, Dr. Howsam, the nurses and staff of the Palliative Care Unit for their kindness and compassion during Mom's final journey. John (Jack) J. Lawlor 1932 - 2007 John (Jack) J. Lawlor 74, of Moncton, with his family at his side, passed away at his residence on Monday evening September 3, 2007, after a short and courageous battle with cancer. Born in Dartmouth, NS, he was the son of the late John J. and Gertrude (Lahey) Lawlor. Jack joined the R.C.M.P. in 1952 and upon completion of training he was posted briefly to Ottawa and then served at St. John's, NF. Goose Bay and Cartwright (Labrador) and then in New Brunswick, Saint John, Port Elgin, Bouctouche, Grand Falls, Sussex and Moncton, retiring as Staff Sergeant in April 1976. He joined the Moncton City Police Department as Deputy Police Chief and was acting Deputy until July 1994. Retirement lasted for 6 months and in January 1995 Jack was appointed the 1st Acting Chief of the new Miramichi City. He held this position a year and then retired once again. An avid golfer, but with only a short season in the Maritimes, Jack went back to work for the Atlantic Lotto Corporation for 10 years, retiring in 2004. Jack attended Holy Family Roman Catholic Church and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. Jack will be sadly missed by his daughters Tracy, Moncton, Joanne Lawlor-Janssen (Scott), Dartmouth, NS; sons, Paul (Donna), Tony (Sue), Moncton; grandchildren, Luke, Sarah, Adam, Starr, Emily; sister, Florence Blaxland, Dartmouth, NS; brothers, Mike (Sheila), Pat (Jackie), William, all of Dartmouth, NS. POWNEY, Pamela R.B. It is with great sadness that we must say our final goodbyes to Pamela. Pam was born in Stirling, Scotland and she passed away August 28, 2007, at home in Oshawa, after a lengthy illness. She had a difficult life at times, and towards the end she held on as best she could. Although her circle was small, she is missed deeply by those of us who loved her. She has left behind a family who will always remember her. She had a big heart and will surely have a special place in heaven. BRITTEN, James Edward B.A., B. Comm., MBA 1915 - 2007 Peacefully on Monday, 3 September 2007, at the age of 91. Dearly beloved husband of the late Margaret (nee Kiely). Left to mourn his passing are his sons David (Sandra), Jim (Dorothy), and John (Pat). Loving grandfather to Andrew Britten (Julia), Sara Medina (Marcel), Jennifer Learmonth (Aaron), Chris Theoret (Biljana) and Amy Britten. He will be lovingly remembered to his great-grandchildren Olivia and Landon Medina, Milicia and Mariana Theoret, and Van Britten. Beloved uncle to many nieces and nephews. Survived by brother John Britten and sister Kaye Baldwin. Born and raised in Halifax, Jim married his sweetheart Margaret in 1939. At the outbreak of WWII Jim worked for the Post Office as a Railway Mail Clerk. His war service was spent as a Radar Technician in the RCAF. After the war, Jim fulfilled a lifelong dream by completing his studies towards a B. of Arts degree from St. Mary's University, Halifax. In 1955 a Public Service promotion meant moving his family to Ottawa. He and Margaret raised their three sons while Jim continued his quest for higher education by obtaining two more university degrees. Moving from the Post Office to the Civil Service Commission, Jim ended 38 years of public service to Canada when he retired from Health and Welfare Canada in 1975. Jim and Margaret enjoyed a wonderful retirement that included many travels abroad punctuated by the arrival of their grandchildren. The family wishes to thank the staff of Gatineau 1 North at the Perley and Rideau Veterans' Health Centre for their care, kindness and compassion. KENNEDY, Jessie Violet (nee Manitowabi) - 82 years Monday September 3rd, 2007 at the Manitoulin Health Centre in Little Current. Jessie was an independent person who loved to travel, collect recipes, meet new people and enjoyed visiting. Jessie had a strong faith in the Catholic Church, she was a member of the Holy Cross Parish. She was involved in her community in the Amik-ook Seniors Committee and attended many elder's gathering. She travelled to Jerusalem and went on other pilgrimages. She retired from the Harper Hospital in Detroit, and returned to Wikwemikong in the early 80's.Jessie was a goal-setter, who wrote her goals down, and check marked them as she completed them. She often wrote lists and marked dates of friends and relatives birthdays. Jessie never forgot to send birthday cards and was always giving. She was an appreciative woman who always looked at the brighter side of things. She could always be counted on for a good laugh was always humourous without even trying. She valued her family, always looking out for them and doing whatever she could to make them happy. Beloved wife of the late James Kennedy. Loving mother of A Eugene Manitowabi (wife Josephine) of Wikwemikong. Dear daughter of Louis & Pauline Manitowabi (both predeceased). MCSWAIN, Hilda Bernice- At Port Colborne Hospital Saturday, September 1st, 2007, Hilda Bernice McSwain (nee Hayden) in her 82nd year. The Lord has called her to join her beloved husband Alexander (Sandy) McSwain (1995). Born and educated at St. Peter's Bay, PEI. She came to Toronto in 1951 and married Alexander McSwain. They then moved to Welland, Ontario in 1957. Left to mourn her passing is her dear friend Norma MacKinnon, dear cousin of Richard MacGregor and Marion, and Pearl Hayden all of PEI, and nephew Stirling Anderson and Linda of Shelburne, ON. Predeceased by one son David Hayden McSwain (1963), her parents Walter Hayden and Sophia Ching-Hayden. She will be sadly missed by her many relatives and friends. She worked as an R.N.A. for 26 years at Sunset Haven Home For the Aged in Welland, taking an early retirement in 1983. She was a faithful member of First Baptist Church, Welland since 1958 where she served in many capacities. In 1959, she joined the St. John Ambulance Corps as a nursing member and was promoted through the ranks to Area Staff Officer of Nursing for the Southern Area of Ontario, a rank she holds to this time. In 1975, she was invested as Officer Sister in the Order of St. John, sanctioned by Her Majesty, the Queen Sovereign, Head of the Order in England. She has continued to be an active charter member of the Welland Chapter Fellowship, St. John Ambulance. She was invested in Ottawa by the Right Honourable Jules Leger, Governor General and Priory of the Order in Canada. Friends will be received at the JAMES L. CUNDY, Douglas Norman February 23, 1919 - September 3, 2007 Douglas Norman Cundy passed away on Monday, September 3, 2007 at the age of 88 years. Douglas was born and raised in Calgary. He joined the Air Force, as a navigator during World War II, serving overseas. Upon returning home Doug began his first career in the Cattle Ranching Industry as part owner in the Waldron Ranch of the Porcupine Hills district in Southern Alberta. Also at this time, Doug began 4 Square Lumber in Calgary, Lethbridge and Medicine Hat. Doug later went on to other ventures, establishing Wax Museums around the world. Doug then returned to the lumber industry, which lasted for approximately the next twenty years. Doug's passion was always his horses and thoroughbred racing. He had a great love of family and was a very generous and devoted husband, father and grandfather. Doug will mostly be remembered for his wonderful sense of humor and quick wit. Doug is survived by his five sons and two daughters-in-law, Raymond, Rodney, Roger and Yolanda, all of Calgary, Kevin, Timothy and Marcella of Airdrie; four grandchildren, Jaime, Michael, Tiffany and Carmen; he is also survived by his two brothers, Ronald Cundy and Jack Cundy as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Doug is predeceased by his first wife Edna Peres and his second wife Barbara Love. KUDZIN, Anna (Nuna) Mikula December 18, 1913 - August 15, 2007 Anna Kudzin passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 15, at the Golden Eagle View in Canmore where she resided for the past five years thanks to the wonderful care she received from her caregivers and Dr. Balharry. Anna was born in Ciechanow, Poland, going to Austria and then Czechoslovakia during the Second World War. From there, her brother Michael, in 1952 sponsored her coming to Canada. In 1955 she married Jan Kudzin and moved to Banff where she resided until 1990. A son, Adrian, was born in 1955. Both Jan and Adrian predeceased her, Jan in 1998 and Adrian in 1994. She leaves to mourn her loss a sister, Julia, in the Ukraine and two nieces, Marie Gay (Calgary), and Nadia Draychuk (Saskatoon), and four nephews, Gerald Draychuk (Calgary), Andrew Mikula (Dunmore, AB), Bill Mikula (Duchess, AB) and Terry Mikula (Crossfield, AB). Anna was predeceased by her three sisters, Helen, Josephine and Emily and her two brothers Michael and Stephan. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, September 5, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. in St. Mary's Catholic Church in Banff. Maureen was born on December 20, 1943 at Red Deer, Alberta. She is survived by two daughters and their families, Lisa (Mark) Taggart and their children, Delaney and Sara all of High River, Alberta, Shannon (Billy-Joe) Chrapko and their children, Shawna, Tyler and Mackenzie all of Stirling, Alberta; her mother, Fay Loughlin of Edmonton; a sister Therese (Len) Erickson, six brothers, Dennis (Rosanna) Loughlin, Ted (Terri) Loughlin, Michael Loughlin, Terry Loughlin, Ron Loughlin, Pat (Shasi) Loughlin; sixteen nieces and nephews. Maureen was predeceased by her father John and a brother Robert. A Prayer Service will be held at EVENTIDE FUNERAL CHAPEL, 4820 - 45 Street, Red Deer on Friday, September 7, 2007 at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 5508 - 48a Avenue, Red Deer on Saturday, September 8, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery, Red Deer, Alberta. SASSEVILLE, Dr. Roger Philippe Lugé 1950-2007 - Our courageous brother Roger passed away peacefully in Toronto on August 9, 2007 at the age of 56 years. At last, Roger, you will have peace and joy. Roger was a man of science, who led an active and fulfilling life. After having attained a PhD. in Inorganic Photochemistry from Carleton University, he found success as a Research Associate at the University of Toronto and Western Ontario, publishing a variety of conference papers and manuscripts in various scientific journals. Roger went on to achieve a post-doctoral fellowship in Physical Organic Chemistry before finally embarking on his career. He loved to read, travel, cook, play billiards, and had a passion for Bridge, having twice been a Gold Master. Roger leaves behind his beloved son Riley Sasseville of Winnipeg, his loving sister Dianna Bertrand (Guy) of Timmins, and his loving brother Dennis Sasseville (Pamela) of Timmins. Roger is also survived by his nieces, Maureena Courtney (Paul) of Picton and Rose-Marie Deacon (Gordon) of South Porcupine and also his nephews, Neil Sasseville (Brenda) of South Porcupine and Clinton Sasseville (Dawn) of Timmins. In addition to cousins, many cherished friends at Hazel's Bridge club and Bagel Haven in Toronto, Roger will be missed and mourned by nine great nieces and nephews as well as his aunts Peggy Scarlette (Carson) of Kitchener and Annie Sasseville (Henry) of Timmins. Roger is pre-deceased by his father Philippe Sasseville (1990), his mother Pearl Mackenzie Sasseville (2002), his brother Kirk Sasseville (1969) and his step- sister Elaine Smith (1996).
