LESTER, Kim Suddenly on Thursday, August 30, 2007, at the age of 54. Beloved husband of Raquel. Loving father of Emma, Nick, Ashley, Kenneth and Kevan. Cherished brother of Carole (Mike Frost), Elaine (Terry Hickey), Rick, Dale (Orma) and families. He will be fondly remembered by his sister-in-law Rosa and nieces Kathy, Lucie and Rosie. THIBODEAU, ALEXANDER J. "ALEX" - The death of Alexander J. "Alex" Thibodeau of Main St. occurred unexpectedly at his residence on Friday, August 31, 2007. Mr. Thibodeau was born in Saint John, a son of Alyre and Jacklyn (Malley) Thibodeau. He had been employed at Your Sub Shop and was an avid drawer. Besides his parents he is survived by his brother, Edward Jules Thibodeau (Elva) of Saint John; his sister, Yvette Thibodeau of Saint John; several nieces and nephews. Resting at Fitzpatrick's Funeral Home, 100 Waterloo St., with visiting on Wednesday, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9. Service will be held in Fitzpatrick's Chapel on Thursday morning at ten o'clock. OYEN, Evelyn Anna After a happy and fulfilling 96 years of life, Evelyn Anna Oyen (nee Sankey) passed away peacefully on August 30, 2007 at the Foothills Hospital. Evelyn will be greatly missed by her children Sandra Oyen-Cumberford (Granger), and Dr. David Oyen, her two grandsons, Greg and Brent Cumberford as well as nieces, nephews, cousins, sister-in-law Eva Sankey, her two special "neighbour-grandchildren", Andre Chasse and Racette Griffin, and her favourite dog Derkey. Evelyn was predeceased by her husband Barney (1998), as well as all her sisters and brothers, Harold, Joe, Lloyd, Cleo, Clara, Harry, Maude (Ginger), and Ethel (Sue). Evelyn was born August 24, 1911 in Jamestown, ND, but soon moved with her family to Cabri and later Milestone, SK. After completing high school and Business College in Regina, Evelyn moved to Calgary where she taught business school and worked at the Hudson's Bay. In 1939, she married Barney and relocated to Edmonton where she worked at the Bay until her children were born. Evelyn was a wonderful stay-at-home Mom, and later on, worked part-time at Sears in the boys' wear until age seventy. In 1980, Evelyn was so very happy to become Nana. She loved doing everything possible with Greg and Brent, and would always be seen proudly cheering them on in all their tennis matches up in Edmonton. In 2000, Evelyn moved to Calgary to be closer to her family. Since 2003, she resided at the Seniors Residence at the Colonel Belcher. She enjoyed many activities there, but Bingo was her very favourite. She was an avid walker and always had a pedometer in her pocket. Special thanks to her wonderful homecare friends at the Belcher, Michelle Dean and Joanne Brumwell. A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, September 5 at 2:00 p.m. at the Seniors Residence of the Colonel Belcher, 1945 Veterans Way N.W., Calgary. PAKKALA, Valerie Margaret (nee Dopson) - Passed away suddenly at home on her own terms, Friday August 24th at age 52 after a courageous 4 year struggle with cancer. Val was the beloved wife of Wayne, loving mother of Luke and Mark all of Georgetown. Daughter of Dorothy and Richard (deceased) Dopson, daughter-in- law of Gloria and Andy (deceased) Pakkala all of Sudbury. Val will be greatly missed by her many sisters, brothers and sisters-in- law, nieces and nephews as well as her and Wayne's many friends and associates. A webmaster and graphics designer at Yamaha Motors Canada, Val was also extensively involved in many business and volunteer organizations in Georgetown throughout her life including the Chamber of Commerce and the local baseball scene. She founded the Halton Hills Women in Business Association and was involved in setting up the North Halton Athena Foundation, an organization dedicated to supporting, developing and honouring women leaders and inspiring women to achieve their full potential in the community. Born and raised in Sudbury, Val loved getting away to the family camps on Long Lake and spent as much time as possible there. Her personal strength of character and will power carried her on throughout this summer allowing her to accomplish goals of renewing relationships and visiting childhood haunts and friends along with going to Camp Manitou in August 2007. Val became passionate in her support of the “Weekend to End Breast Cancer“ walk for the Princess Margaret Hospital Foundation, participating in 2 walks and planning a 3rd in spite of declining health. The family asks that those wishing to honour her memory make contributions to the Princess Margaret Walk to End Cancer in lieu of flowers. CHRISTOPHER JOHN WORTHY A loving husband and wonderful father, Christopher John Worthy passed away at his home in Vancouver on August 2, 2007. He passed peacefully and was surrounded by his family. He is survived by his devoted wife of 41 years, Lesley, and their sons, Chris and Marc. Chris was born in Bristol, England in 1947. The son of Ronald and Eunice Worthy, he grew up in humble surroundings in Ontario with five siblings. Hockey was his passion during the first phase of his life. Chris played goal for the Flin Flon Bombers of the Western Hockey League where he won the 1967-68 WHL Goaltender of the year award and set numerous individual records; including records for consecutive shutout games and consecutive shutout minutes. Both of these records have remained unbroken for almost four decades. He went on to play in the National Hockey League for the Oakland Seals and the California Golden Seals and in the World Hockey Association for the Edmonton Oilers. Chris retired from professional hockey after the 1975-76 season. During the second phase of his life, Chris attended Seattle University and the University of Alberta where he was awarded a Bachelor of Commerce degree. He went on to receive the Chartered Accountant designation shortly thereafter. After working in public accounting and the construction industry, Chris was named Chief Financial Officer of the fourth largest construction company in the United States. After several years, Chris returned to the west coast where he founded a successful private investment company. Chris's efforts focused on building opportunity for employees and investors alike. A tireless champion of individual liberty and free markets, he led by example in helping to build numerous successful businesses throughout Canada and the United States. His leadership ability, personal integrity and kindness allowed him to be a mentor to many. Chris's quiet generosity made a real difference in the lives of those he touched. He will be greatly missed. LYNCH, Dr. Bernard G. - (1933 -2007) - C'est avec tristesse que la famille, le partenaire et les membres du personnel de son bureau dentaire annoncent le décès soudain du Dr Bernard G. Lynch, dimanche le 26 août 2007, à l'hôpital régional de Sudbury Centre de santé St-Joseph. Il était le fils de feue Leonie et feu Robert Lynch de Blind River, Ontario. Lui survit Jacqueline (née Roy), son épouse et meilleure amie tant aimée depuis plus de 50 ans. Lui survivent aussi, Bernard André, son fils bien-aimé et Natalie, sa fille chérie ainsi que ses deux petits-enfants, Meghan et Bradley qu'il adorait. Lui survivent aussi ses frères, Patrick Lynch (amie Lorraine) de Whitby, Robert Lynch (épouse Fleurette) de North Bay, Marsh Lynch (feue Nancy) de Abudhabi, EUA, Dennis Lynch (épouse Claire) de Montréal et ses deux beaux-frères, Ralph Roy (épouse Myrna) de Sudbury et Aldo Roy (amie Julia) de Kanata ainsi que plus de 25 neveux et nièces. Après avoir complété son éducation élémentaire à Blind River, il poursuivit ses études au Collège Sacré-Coeur à Sudbury oil obtient son B.A. en 1956 et ensuite à l'Université de Montréal oil est gradué en dentisterie cum laude en 1962. Il a pratiqué sa profession initialement à Espanola, Ontario jusqu'en 1967 et par après à Sudbury jusqu'à maintenant. En plus d'être affable et chaleureux envers sa famille et ses amis, le Dr Lynch était un modèle de générosité et a personnifié l'essence du mot à tous niveaux. Il a donné de son temps, de sa sagesse, de ses conseils, de son ingéniosité et de sa valeur personnelle tout autour de lui et à de multiples organismes et institutions et particulièrement en éducation à tous les paliers. Il fut Conseiller scolaire et Président du Conseil du Espanola Separate School Board ainsi que membre de l'ancien Sudbury High School Board. Il a été l'initiateur du Conseil pour l'éducation permanente à Sudbury. De 1969 à 1975 il a siégé sur le Conseil des régents de l'Université de Sudbury. Il est devenu membre du Conseil des régents du Collège Cambrian oil a servit pendant nombreuses années et oil a servit à titre de Président pendant un terme. Il a ensuite été nommé au Conseil d'administration de la fondation du Collège Cambrian pour plusieurs années. De 1976 à 1990, il fut membre du Conseil des gouverneurs de l'Université Laurentienne de Sudbury et a présidé le Comité exécutif du conseil pendant plusieurs termes. Il a été décoré pour son expertise professionnelle et son engagement communautaire. En 1984, il a reçu l'agrégation du Academy of General Dentistry à San Francisco, E-U. En 1994, on lui a décerné le Fred Sheridan Award au Collège Cambrian à Sudbury. Le Dr Lynch était un avide sportif. Alors qu'il était étudiant, il excellait au basketball au niveau collégial et universitaire. Il était membre du Club de golf Idylwylde, du Searchmount Ski Club et du Club Cambrian de conditionnement physique. Il se plaisait à parcourir les bois en automne avec sa Jacqueline bien-aimée à la recherche de perdrix. Comme cycliste aguerri, il a voyagé les pistes et les chemins locaux et même ceux d'Europe avec virilité. Aucun mots-croisés ou casse-tête ne lui résistait. Il aimait tant se régaler de bonne bouffe et de bons vins. Comme il aimait la vie! Le Dr Lynch était un professionnel remarquable, un collaborateur communautaire généreux et un époux, un père et un grand-père très aimant. Son absence sera marquante. He is survived by his loving and dedicated wife and best friend of more than 50 years, Jacqueline (nee Roy), his beloved son Bernard André, his cherished daughter Natalie and his two grandchildren Meghan and Bradley whom he adored. He practised his profession initially in Espanola, ON until 1967 and subsequently in Sudbury until the present. Aside from being a loving and caring person to both family and friends, Dr. Lynch was a model of generosity and epitomized the essence of the word at all levels. He gave of his time, his wisdom, his counsel, his ingenuity and his worth to community affairs, multiple organizations and institutions, particularly in education at all levels. He served as school trustee and chair of the Espanola Separate School Board and as a member of the former Sudbury High School Board. He initiated the Council for Continuing Education in Sudbury and in 1969 until 1975 he sat on the University Sudbury Board of Regents. He became a member of the Board of Regents of Cambrian College where he served for a number of years including a term as Chairman of the Board. He also was appointed to the Cambrian College Foundation Board for several years. From 1976 until 1990 he was a member of the Board of Governors of Laurentian University and chaired the Executive Committee for several terms. Honours were bestowed to him in acknowledgment of his professional expertise and his community involvement. In 1984 he was made a Fellow of the Academy of General Dentistry in San Francisco, USA. In 1994, he received the Fred Sheridan Award at Cambrian College in Sudbury. Dr. Lynch excelled at many sports. In his student days, he played college and university basketball. He was a member of the Idylwylde Golf and Country Club, of the Searchmount Ski Club and of the Cambrian College Fitness Club. He loved to take his beloved Jacqueline partridge hunting in the Fall. As an avid cyclist, he traveled the local and some European trails and roads on cycling excursions. No crosswords or puzzles could resist his talent. He regaled on good foods and wines. Bernard enjoyed life to the fullest. Dr. Lynch was an exceptional athlete, a stellar professional, a generous contributor to his many communities, a loving husband, parent and grandparent. He will be sadly missed. The family will receive relatives and friends at the CO-OPERATIVE FUNERAL HOME, 222 Lasalle Blvd. E. Mary C. Donnahee, RN Mary Cecilia Donnahee, 86, cherished wife of Robert Donnahee, of K.E. Spencer's Memorial Home, formerly of Elmwood Drive, Moncton, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 31, 2007, at the residence. Born in Targettville, Kent County, NB, on July 4, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Thomas McDermott and the late Mary Ellen Harrington. Mary was a graduate of Hotel Dieu School of Nursing, Chatham. A compassionate and caring nurse, she was employed as a Registered Nurse at the Moncton Hospital, the Dr. Georges-L. Dumont Hospital, and private duty nursing. Our hearts are saddened as we accept the loss of a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother. Mary was the beloved wife for 57 years to Robert Donnahee; loving mother of Mary (Albert LeBlanc) of Notre Dame, Lynn (Bruce Burdock) of Riverview, Charles (Caroline) of Moncton, and John (Wendy) of Dundas, NB; cherished grandmother of Christopher, Carrie, Colleen, Cory, Cassandra, Catherine, Angela, Charlene, Launce, and Justin; great-grandmother of Lilah, Grace Mary, Ayden, Kiran and Luc; special cousin to Carmel Gallant; dear aunt to many nieces and nephews. She was the last survivor of her immediate family. She is predeceased by her brothers and sisters: infant James, Irvine, Amos, Joseph, Elizabeth, Kathleen, Dorothy, Bridget; her beloved grandsons, Colin Donnahee and Matthew LeBlanc. CHIASSON, GERARD J. - It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Gerard "Gerry" Joseph Chiasson, of Saint John, NB, husband of Armantine "Doris" (Paulin) Chiasson, occurred on Friday, August 31st, 2007, at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born on October 15, 1922 in Caraquet, NB, he was a son of the late Daniel and Mary Ann (Hebert) Chiasson. Gerry was stationed in England during World War II with the Les Chaudieres. He was a member of St. Pius X Church, Royal Canadian Legion Branch #64, the Carpenters Union Local 1386, and a 4th Degree with the Knights of Columbus. He had a great love of the water and enjoyed, fishing, boating, bowling and loved puttering in " The Shop". He was employed as a carpenter with R.A. Wood Construction at the time of his retirement. Besides his wife, Gerry is survived by one daughter, Suzanne Chiasson of Saint John; two sons, Christian (Cindy) and Michael (Suzanne) of Calgary; five sisters, Matilda Rouillard of Quebec, Mary Guignard of Quispamsis, Patricia Paulin, Delicia Orr, Simonne "Jeannie" Riley all of Saint John; five grandchildren, Michael Cole, David Cole, Christian Chiasson, Emily Chiasson and Jillian Chiasson; several nieces and nephews; two special companions, Kitty and Missy. SPILMAN, NINA CHRISTINE (NEE DYKEMAN) Nina C. Spilman of Harvey Station passed away September 1, 2007 at the Wauklehegan Manor in McAdam. Born in Smithfield, York County, NB in 1919, she was the daughter of the late Raymond and Maude (Coffey) Dykeman. Nina was a registered nurse and a proud member of the Victorian Order of Nurses in Fredericton. She was also a member of the Ladies Auxiliary, McAdam Branch 7, Royal Canadian Legion. Nina is survived by two daughters, Mary Alice Maltais (Jean-Pierre) and Pauline Elizabeth (Betty) Canuel (Mario) both of Sept-Iles, Quebec; two granddaughters, Natalie Maltais (Simon) and Christine Canuel (Eric); two grandsons, Marc Canuel (Emilie) and Philippe Canuel; five great grandchildren; a brother-in-law, Edward Spilman (Greta) of Stanley; a sister-in-law, Jean Spilman, of Nashwaak Bridge; a special brother-in-law, Norman E. Spilman (Anita) of Ontario and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Donald Spilman and one brother, Herb Dykeman and his wife Jean. Joan M. Trites 1932-2007 Joan M. Trites, 74, of Ammon, with her loving husband at her side, passed away peacefully and unexpectedly at her home on Saturday, September 1, 2007. Born in Amherst, NS, she was the daughter of the late Leslie and Mabel (Chambers) Atkinson. Joan graduated from St. Charles Commercial, Amherst, worked as a stenographer at the T. Eaton Co. and Canadian Oil and before her retirement she was employed as a Ward Clerk at the Moncton Hospital. Joan was a member of Stilesville United Church and the N. B. Seniors Federation. An avid bowler with the Seniors Bowlarama (Thursday League) and enjoyed traveling with the Bowlarama Bowling Bus Tours with her friends and family. Joan was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Her family has many fond memories of enjoying her fabulous cooking, conversation, piano playing and her wonderful smile. Joan was the much loved wife of Carl Trites for 53 years; mother of Nancy Dooley (Seamus), Marilyn Steeves (Scott), both of Moncton; adored grandmother of Colin and Claire Dooley, Sydney and Lauren Steeves. Also survived by her brother, Harold Atkinson, Moncton; sister-in-law, Evelyn Atkinson, Pembroke, ON; brother-in-law, George McKenzie, South Burlington, Vermont; several nieces and nephews. BERLINGERI, Domenic 1923-2007 - It is with much sadness and regret that daughters Diane Brown and Carol Onucki (Robert) announces the passing of their dearest father Domenic Berlingeri at the age of 84 years at the Timmins & District Hospital on August 31st, 2007. Domenic passed away peacefully surrounded by his family. Domenic is predeceased by his beloved wife Eve in 2000 and cherished daughter Paula Ricci (Joseph) in 2005. Fond memories of Pappa forever remembered by grandchildren and great grandchildren; Ann Marie Hunter (Steve) and their children Sydney & Zachary, Lisa Martin ( Barrie) and their son Barrie Jr., Natalie Brown, Jeffrey Brown, Jason Onucki and Justin Onucki. Survived by sister Dunie Pare and brother Dino Berlingeri (Nancy). Domenic was a dedicated employee of Bupont Motors for 48 years. LALONDE, Albert Joseph - Our hearts are heavy as we announce the sudden passing of Albert Joseph Lalonde, on Saturday September 1, 2007, at the age of 73. Husband of Jeanette (nee Laronde), proud father to his four “girls” Tracey Armstrong (Tony), Kimberly Lalonde, Charlene Lalonde (Mike Soglo) and Jennifer Lalonde (Richard Bender) and much loved grandpa to Joshua, Cody, Beau and Ethan. He will be sadly missed by his sisters Jeane Constante and Claire Callin. Albert was predeceased by his brother Archie Lalonde and his mother Agnes Lalonde. Albert was born in Temagami in 1934 and his early love for dogs lead to a passion for dog racing. He also enjoyed being on the lake to fish and hunt. Starting his work life he spent several years at Camp Chimo as a cook as well as many years as a butcher for local grocery stores including “Ben's Supermarket” in North Bay. After delivering for “Aunt Mays” bakery in the northern tri-towns Albert went on to work 18 years with Skega Canada Ltd. In his retirement Albert devoted much of his time to representing the family as the grandson of Angele Egwana and Grey Owl (Archibald Stansfield Belaney). With a ready smile Albert extended friendship and an energetic spirit to those he met. He will be sadly missed by numerous nieces, nephews and his “coffee buddies”. Robert had been a police officer for many years. He took pride in his duties and being a member of the Sudbury Regional Police Services Department.
