REMILLONG, Michael "Mike" Passed away peacefully at Windsor Regional Hospital-Metropolitan Campus, on Thursday August 30, 2007 at the age of 79 years. Beloved husband of Rose (nee Rischar). Dear father of Peter Remillong and wife Elizabeth of Windsor; and Dr. Gary Remillong and wife Sylvia, of Tecumseh. Dear Opa of Karen, Brian and wife Erin, and Derek Remillong. Dear brother of Katie Kiefer of Brantford, Ontario; and the late Helen Scherer and Mary Kiefer. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews. Mr. Remillong was retired following many years as a painter with Manz Painting of Windsor. A longtime member of St. Michaels German Catholic Church, and the Teutonia Club, Mike will be dearly missed by many friends, and by those who knew him as a wonderful neighbour. Uncle of Scott (Anne) Wellman, Leisa Cuddy (Roger) and Jon Vankleek and great-uncle of Drew and Elisabeth Cuddy. Loving extended family to Pam and Jim Sweetman and children Brian, Kate and Scott Johns. Son of the late Olive (Rousom) and Mac Wellman. SMITH, Melinda Ella Smith, Coles, Smith - passed away of cancer in hospital on June 29, 2007, after a short illness. Born October 20, 1921, she grew up in Cobalt, Ontario. She was predeceased by husbands John Coles of Cobalt and Henry Smith of Kirkland Lake; her children Cecile Kamino, Theresa Grant and John Coles; siblings Irvin, Manford (Connie), Dan, Basil and Freeman Smith as well as one other young brother and two young sisters. She is survived by her children Joseph Coles of Yellowknife, Louis Coles of Toronto and Keven Coles of North Bay; siblings Mimia Hellman of Cobalt, Elvin Smith of Powassan, Kenneth Smith of Thunder Bay, Phyllis Stewart of West Cobalt, Elsie Graham Martin of Beachburg and David Bigras of Kirkland Lake. As a child, Melinda sang on the radio and while living in Cobalt she sang for small groups while playing the guitar. She also played the organ and piano. She liked to help people and was proud of her job at the old Haileybury Hospital where she worked as a Red Stripe Girl. She was a cheerful person and brought sunshine into any room she entered. Melinda will be missed by her 3 sisters, 3 brothers, 3 sons, 11 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. Also by her relatives and friends who could not help loving her, as she was a very special person. Melinda was buried next to her first husband John Coles at Holy Cross Cemetery in Haileybury. TEEPLE, Kathleen (née Malone) - Peacefully at the Teck Pioneer Residence with her family by her side on Tuesday, August 28, 2007 at the age of 82 years. Predeceased by her husbands Raymond Mulvihill, Allan Young and Howard Teeple. Dearly loved Mother of Barbara Sampson (Peter), Michael Mulvihill, Brian Mulvihill (Kathy), Linda Young (Terry Stoyand), Bob Young and Step-Mother of Dale Teeple (Dianna), Debbie Carisse (Russ Burns), and Heather Caswell (Randy Sherman). Fondly remembered by her 20 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Sadly missed by her brothers Ed Malone and Phillip Malone. Predeceased by her parents Lawrence & Mary Malone, her brother Bill Malone, her sister Liz Will, her children Patsy Dawn, Lawrence Mulvihill, Robert Teeple and by her grandchildren Peter Sampson, Jeffery Mulvihill, Sean Ziolkowski and Sharon Carisse. Kathleen had a full life and spent many hours reading her Bible, knitting and working on jig-saw puzzles. In honour of Kathleen's wishes, private family services will be held. LACHANCE, Eric Omer - In Loving Memory of Eric Omer Lachance. The family announces with sorrow Eric's sudden passing at home on Wednesday August 29th, 2007 at the age of 50. Loving son of Antoinette (nee Lessard) and the Late Omer Francis Lachance. BERTHIAUME - Robert Paul Bob passed away unexpectedly the morning of Wednesday, August 29, 2007 at the age of 88 years. He was predeceased by his parents, Eli and Delima (nee Daignault) Berthiaume; brothers, Edward, Louis, Henry, Ovide and Emilien; sisters, Leah, Anne, Alice and Florence. Bob is survived by his only remaining sister, Emma McCall (105 years of age) of Estevan, SK; son, Robert (Kathleen) and two grandchildren, Rebecca and Jonathan. He also leaves to mourn his nephew and good friend, Ray Vermette; great nephews, Darrell and Blaine Vermette, as well as numerous nephews, nieces, cousins and extended family and friends. Bob was self-employed as a plasterer during his lifetime, in fact he was still taking on small jobs as recently as this month. He was a decorated WW II Veteran, serving overseas for his country. Cremation will take place and there will be no funeral at Bob's request. May he rest in peace. GREABEIEL, Darrell Dwight (aka Angus McCallum, Felix ~ Grumpy) It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Darrell of Saskatoon on Tuesday, August 28th, 2007 at the age of 78. He is survived by his four children, Odette (Mark) Nicholson of Saskatoon; Merrill (Guy) Edlund of Calgary, Wade of Okotoks, AB; and Dean (Megan) of Saskatoon; and their mother, Eileen (nee Pell) Jewitt of Okotoks, AB; and Jean (nee Thauberger) Greabeiel of Regina; as well as eight grandchildren. He will also be missed by his beloved pet Chester. Darrell enjoyed a wide variety of professions throughout his life. His hobbies were fishing, hunting, flying, golf, as well as having Revel ice cream bars and friends over for a cold beer. LACKEY, Robyn Lee December 8, 1962 - August 24, 2007 Robyn Lee Lackey, formerly of Calgary, passed away suddenly at her home in Victoria, BC on Friday, August 24, 2007 at the age of 44 years. Robyn was born December 8, 1962 in Calgary. She worked in the family restaurant business, Glenn's Restaurant, until 1990 when she opened Glenn's Jobsite Pub. Robyn moved to Victoria in 2005 to be close to the ocean. She loved sports, especially the Calgary Flames and enjoyed worshiping at Harvest Hills Alliance Church. Robyn is survived by her daughters, Kristin Lackey-Gabriel and Kelsy Gabriel of Calgary; parents Glenn and Vi Lackey of Calgary; two brothers, Claire Lackey of Medicine Hat and Kelly Lackey of Calgary; sister Jacqueline (Frank) Troughton of Calgary; nephew Zachary Terlier and niece Courtney Lackey. HELLER, Rotraut (nee Schiebel) July 29, 1930 - August 24, 2007 Rotraut Heller, known to family and friends as Romi, passed away on August 24, 2007 in Victoria while participating in a medical trial conducted by the Victoria Heart Institute Foundation for congestive heart failure. Romi felt she had had "a very rich and full life, with no regrets". She will be remembered by all who knew her for her youthful zest for life, creativity, kindness, generosity, warmth, and humor. Romi is remembered by her children Brigitte, Rosemarie, Peter; grandchildren Erin, Kyle, Annie, Austin; her siblings, Jelto, Almut, Diethild, Sigrun; and her many friends and neighbors. MITCHELL, Thelma Elizabeth (nee Beswitherick) Thelma Elizabeth Mitchell (nee Beswitherick) passed away at the Red Deer Regional Hospital on August 27, 2007. Thelma was born in 1924 at Hummerston, Manitoba where her father was employed by CNR. The family lived in a number of small towns in southern Manitoba. She later moved to Manitou, Manitoba and there met and married Ivan (Mitch) Mitchell. In 1956 Ivan, Thelma and their daughters moved to Alberta where they spent thirty years in Calgary. Thelma spent her time raising her girls. Her door was always open. They retired to Victoria in 1986 where many happy years were spent reuniting with old friends and making new ones. Thelma spent much of her time playing cards and golfing and most importantly, enjoying frequent visits from her grandson. They returned to Alberta in 1998 to Red Deer. Ivan passed away in 2004 and Thelma moved to Victoria Park Lodge in the spring of 2006. She quickly found a happy home and made many new friends. It was a great joy for her to be here to welcome two baby girls, Alyse and Isabel into the extended family this year. Thelma is survived by three daughters, Judy (Jim) Allan, Joanne Haselden and Terry Mitchell all of Red Deer; dearly loved grandson, Jason Haselden of London, England; brother-in-law, Bob Gugin and sister-in-law, Marge Young both of Manitoba; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband of fifty-eight years, Ivan Mitchell, sister, Helen Gugin and parents, Rob and Cassie Beswitherick. The family would like to thank Dr. Begley and the nurses on Units 32 and 33 for their care and kindness in these final weeks. Thank you also to her friends, including the staff at Victoria Park. CROSS, Hannah "Nancy" February 16, 1912 - August 27, 2007 Nancy Cross passed away peacefully, on August 27, 2007, at the age of 95, to enter into the presence of her Heavenly Father with her son Brian beside her bedside, holding her hand. Besides her loving son Brian, Nancy is survived by her sisters, Ivy Holmes and Vida Scarrott, both of Olds, AB. She was predeceased by her husband Clyde in October 1994 and by her sisters Mary Furber, Dorothy Paton and Margaret Corbett. Nancy Cross was a member of Crescent Heights Baptist Church for many years. In 1994 she joined the fellowship at Northmount Baptist Church. A Memorial Service will be held at Northmount Baptist Church, 451 Northmount Drive N.W., Calgary on Thursday, September 6, 2007 at 10:30 a.m., with Rev. GOULET, DESANGES (Nee Goulet) - 1910-2007 - Early Thursday morning “Mémère” as she was known to many, made her way to be with her Lord. Predeceased by her loving husband Jean Baptiste (1965), infant daughter and son Françoise & Jean and her son Maurice (1973) . Loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great great grandmother. She leaves us with many wonderful memories but most important with great faith in the One she lived for. Generous, always willing to give of her time and love, she prepared meals for many parish priests of St. Dominique, for the Cursillo movement which she was a member of and also for Club Alpha Omega at the parish camp. She knitted many slippers, baby clothes and wool garments for the church bazaar as a member of Dames St. Dominique. She was also an active participant of Foi et Partage and of the Charismatés movement. DEMPSTER, GLEN R. - The death of Glen Robert Dempster of Old Black River Road, Saint John, husband of Roberta (Rossiter) Dempster, occurred on Thursday, August 30, 2007 at his residence. Born in Saint John on July 6, 1941, he was the son of the late Ora and Marguerite (Reid) Dempster. Glen was a Caulker Chipper at the Saint John Dry dock for 25 years before his retirement and was a member of Local #3. Glen coached Little League for many years, and was a avid Toronto Blue Jays and Toronto Maple Leafs fan. He was a member of Stella Maris Parish and bowled with the dry dock Thursday Night League. Glen couldn't wait for summer to come each year, so he and Roberta could go to their camp in Wickham and have family visit them there. Glen's passion for motorcycles started when he bought his first bike at the age of 16. He enjoyed going to Laconis, NH with many of his good friends and later with his son, Sean. Glen and Roberta had many bike trips in New Brunswick and Maine until his illness. Glen had a very special relationship with each of his grandchildren, who he loved very dearly and enjoyed spoiling them along with his dog Mickey. He will be sadly missed. Besides his loving and devoted wife, he is survived by one son, Sean Dempster (Joanne); one daughter, Stacey (Lawrence); grandchildren, Jacob, Lauren, Devon and Emily; one brother, Ora Dempster; one sister, Pat Thompson, all of Saint John; several cousins, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by one brother, Winston Dempster and two sisters, Dorothy Crawford and Georgina Wilson. COLEMAN, Roy Edward August 26, 1912 August 24, 2007 Roy Edward Coleman was born in Farningham, Kent, England, August 26, 1912. He served his country in World War II as a pilot for the Air Transport Auxiliary. In 1947 he immigrated to Canada with his three sons, Bill, John and Bob. His dream of having an English Pub in Canada came true in 1950 when he purchased the Fulford Inn on Saltspring Island. It was here that he met his future wife, Yolande Decosse, a nurse who attended to his young son John in the hospital. Yolande became a loving mother to Roy's three boys and together they had two daughters, Suzanne and Louise. Roy and family moved to Victoria in 1955 and continued his pre-war occupation as a building and stucco contractor. He was a founding member of the Victoria Home Builders Association and built many fine Tudor homes in the Victoria area. He was a member of the Air Crew Association (Sidney), a member of the Air Transport Auxiliary Association and a member of the Capital City Yacht Club. He never lost his love of flying and especially his love of Spitfires. He instilled the joy of boating and cruising the Gulf Islands in all his children and their families. Roy is survived by his loving friend and companion, Margaret Campbell. FOWLES, Peter Derek Jan. 16, 1930 Aug. 27, 2007 Our beloved Peter passed away at home on August 27 with family at his side. He was an only child, predeceased by his mother Barbara and his father Alfred. Pete was born in Montreal but lived his early years in England, travelling back and forth to Canada during the war. They settled in Canada in 1946. Pete was an installer for the B.C. Telephone Company for many years. He was an avid sportsman, played soccer for Victoria West and rugby for J.B.A.A. Pete was a member of Uplands Golf Club for many years and served on the Board and as club Captain. He was active in juvenile sports, managing soccer and little league teams and umpiring. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He leaves his dear wife of 53 years, Anne, sons Mike (Pam), Bob (Gail), daughter Marilyn (Mike), grandchildren, Jeff, Rob, Steve, Emily, Haley, sister-in-law and brother-in-law Phyllis and Grant Baker and many dear friends. MACLEOD, Daniel James (Danny) New Glasgow Police Commissioner, veteran Town Councillor and National Capital Commission Board Member Danny MacLeod, passed away Wednesday, August 29, 2007 after a courageous battle with cancer, at home at the young age of 57, with his loving wife of 35 years, Virginia, and his family by his side. Danny is survived by his devoted daughters Lisa MacLeod (Joe Varner) of Nepean, ON and Sheri Greene (Dale) of New Glasgow, NS and was beloved Buppa to two adoring grandchildren, Victoria Varner and Aiden Daniel Greene. Danny will be deeply missed by his chosen sons Chad and Chris Hale and his sisters and brothers, John (Cathy), Ena Smith (Art Mansour), Norman (Anne), Janice Fraser (Tom) and Heather MacLean (Barry) and brother in law John Stewart (Janet), Alex Stewart (Marie) and sister in law Cindy Jeans (Paul). Danny will also be missed by several nieces and nephews. Danny was predeceased by his parents, Henry and Beryl (nee Ross), and his younger brother Cedric. Danny will be remembered by his family and friends for his loyalty, kindness, big heart, good nature and a distinguished career of public service spanning three decades. Until the day he died he welcomed family and friends into his home to provide well wishers with comfort. Born in New Glasgow and a resident of Terrace Heights and formerly of Terra Nova Drive, Danny held several prominent roles in the community through his involvement in sporting, policing and waste management. At the time of his illness he was Chair of the New Glasgow Police Services Board, Regional Chair for Nova Scotia Solid Waste Management and a member of the Nova Scotia Labour Relations Board. He was also a member of the Pictou District Planning Commission, the New Glasgow Recreation Committee and Shriner with the Masonic Temple. Danny was the former President of the Canadian Association of Police Boards, Chair of the Unemployment Appeals Board (Nova Scotia), member of the Solicitor General Task Force on Police Services and he had served as New Glasgows Deputy Mayor. He brought Red Friday to New Glasgow to support Pictou County Troops who are fighting for our freedom in Afghanistan. He had also served as Chair of the 1999 Canada Girls Softball Championships and Chair of the 1997 Air Canada Cup national hockey tournament. Danny was a former board member with the Aberdeen Hospital Commission, the Pictou District School Board and the Honourary Chair of Pictou County Make a Wish Foundation. Danny spent 25 years in business with Thompson and Sutherlands, Curtis Industries, Westburne/ Wosley and A and S Metals. Friends may pay their respects at Angus Funeral Home in New Glasgow on Saturday, September 1 at 7 p.m. - 9 p.m. and Sunday, September 2 from 2-4 p.m. and 7 - 9 p.m. A service celebrating Danny's life and good work will be held at the St. Andrew's "Kirk" Church New Glasgow, at 2 p.m. on Monday, September 3, with burial at the Lorne Street Cemetery to follow. A reception hosted by the Town of New Glasgow will be held to honour Danny's dedication to the community at Glasgow Square after the burial.
