SANCHE, Claude Henri - It is with great sorrow that the family announces the passing of a beloved son, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin and friend Claude Henri Sanche. Claude passed away in North Bay, July 16th, 2007. He was 44 years old. Loving son of Leonie (nee Menard) Sanche and Norbert Sanche (predeceased 1987); stepson of Bill Lavigne. Dear brother of Noel, wife Linda and their daughters Brittany and Myranda (Thunder Bay), also Kallida of Sudbury. Predeceaed by his brother Guy Sanche (1997). Also predeceased by his mémère and pépère Joe and Clarisse (Charette) Menard, and mémère and pépère Jean-Noel and Josephine Sanche. Claude graduated with honours in Social Work from Canadore College. He was also a Personal Support Worker and worked at Community Living Greater Sudbury. He loved basketball and woodworking. Claude will be sadly missed by his three nieces, his good friend Neil Crouse, many friends from Thunder Bay and North Bay and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Livingston, Penny LIVINGSTON - On July 17, 2007 at about 11p.m. our beloved Penny passed away, attended by her loving husband Bob who has been by her side constantly through the past six months of her illness. She was afflicted with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis and had been awaiting a lung transplant at University of Alberta Hospital. She was alert and bright to the end she beat Bob in a cribbage game just hours before she died. Penny was born in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan as the youngest of three children born to Hope and Al Hickson. She graduated from the Convent of Sion in 1957. In 1962 she married Bob after a seven year courtship. The couple made their home in many places over the years, but raised their children in Regina. They retired to the home they built on Buffalo Pound Lake, which Penny loved. The last eight years of her life, Bob and Penny spent their winters in Florida with their oldest son Terry and his family. Penny had a vibrant and active mind, and this was reflected in the scope of educational, volunteer, and vocational pursuits she undertook and excelled at. She was an advanced registered laboratory technologist, a school teacher, a real estate sales agent, and a specialist pharmaceutical sales representative. She served in numerous volunteer positions including the board of directors of the Saskatchewan Abilities Council and as team manager of the Regina Optimist Dolphins Swim Team. Her great vocational talent was singing. She sang with the world renowned Mendelssohn Choir in Toronto, and was in great demand as a soloist with jazz groups, at church, and at funerals and weddings. Predeceased by her parents, Hope and Al Hickson; her brother, Clive Hickson; and her sister, Faith Cowin, Penny is survived by Bob; son Terry (Chris) and their children: Michael, Sean and Matthew; son, Brian (Shandra) and their daughters: Cassidy and Alyssa. The Funeral Service will be held on Monday, July 23, 2007 at 1:30 p.m. in the W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Chapel, 106 Athabasca St. E., Moose Jaw. Della Ferguson will officiate. CAMPBELL, Russell James April 24, 1928 - July 17, 2007 Russell James Campbell, beloved husband of Helga of Calgary, passed away at the Peter Lougheed Hospital on Tuesday, July 17, 2007 at the age of 79 years, after a short battle with cancer. He was born in Bankend, Saskatchewan on April 24, 1928. GRAY, Jack Vincent Long-time resident of Kelowna, BC, passed away peacefully on July 3, 2007 at the age of 89. He will be dearly missed by his children and stepchildren, John V. Gray, Joan (Kitsy) Gray, and Patricia Gray all of Calgary; Barry and Jacquie Davis of Kelowna, BC; Velvette and Jim LeVatte of Newmarket, ON and Walter (Peppi) Davis of Toronto, ON. His grandchildren include Matthew Rubuliak of Edmonton; Nancy Robb and Denise Robb of Calgary; Debbie Feinstein of Markham, ON; Myles Davis of Toronto, ON; Richard Wyman of Dallas, TX; Shawn Paul of Victoria, BC and Sherri-Lynne Kerr of Brooklin, ON. Jack was the second son of Lillian and Harold Gray. He had an older brother Victor, his first wife Hilda and second wife Toni, all of whom predeceased him. Jack was born January 24, 1918 in Vancouver, BC. After briefly serving in the army reserve during World War II, he traveled north and helped build the Alaska Highway. He then settled in Calgary and began working as an accountant for Imperial Oil until he retired with them in 1978. He married and began raising his family in Calgary and later in Edmonton. After Hilda passed away in 1972, he married his widowed sister-in-law Toni in 1974. They moved to Kelowna, BC where they enjoyed their retirement years together until Toni's passing in 2005. Jack was a gentle soul with a dry sense of humour. He loved his family, his home on McClure Road, Kelowna and Sun Pointe Village where he resided for the last seven years of his wonderful life. He enjoyed traveling, baseball, westerns, and the simple pleasures of living in what he called God's Country, the sunny Okanagan. KNEESHAW, Clifford Stanley January 15, 1923 - July 17, 2007 It is with great love and deep sorrow that the family of Clifford "Stanley" announces his passing in Calgary on Tuesday, July 17, 2007 at the age of 84 years. Stanley's memory will be cherished by his wife Mary (nee Beddoes); sons Ralph (Gail), Blair (Shelia), Norm (Judy); grandchildren Deanna, Vanessa, Jordon, Jenna, Braydon and Melissa and brother Vern (Fran). He is also survived by brothers-in-law Don (Irene) Beddoes and Jack (Darlene) Beddoes. Stan was a proud native Calgarian, born at the General Hospital and later joining the CPR in 1941. He joined the Airforce on February 25, 1943 and served overseas with Canadian Forces. Stan played hockey for Arena Dukes from 1946 to 1949 and went to Scotland and coached the Ayr Raiders from 1949 to 1950. He joined Air Canada in May, 1951 and retired in January, 1981. Stan and Mary were married on August 21, 1954. WATSON, Ryan Glenn Glenn was born in Calgary on June 21, 1973, and was taken from us suddenly on July 17, 2007, at the age of 34 while enjoying one of his favourite outdoor activities. Glenn will be dearly missed by his parents, Doug and Sandy Watson; Grandmothers Margaret Brown and Jeanne Watson; and brothers Grant (Sandra), Rob (Angela), and Brett Watson. He is also survived by his Great-Aunt Peg, Aunt Susan (Rick), and cousins Alana (Davor), Barb (Alex) and Cameron. He was predeceased by his Grandfathers Norman Brown and James Watson. He also leaves behind many good friends with whom he shared his diverse interests. Glenn trained as an electrical engineer at the University of Calgary, earning his BSc in 1996 and MSc in 2003. As a Professional Engineer licensed under APEGGA, he spent his career working in Calgary's high-tech industries, most recently as a project manager with University Technologies International. During this time, he also worked on behalf of his profession through various volunteer positions with APEGGA. Glenn was an avid outdoorsman and spent as much as possible of his spare time hiking, biking, skiing, canoeing, kayaking or sailing in mountains, lakes, rivers and oceans. He traveled far to pursue his love of outdoor adventures, including a memorable 2006 canoe trip with friends down the well-known but remote Nahanni River. He shared his trips and adventures with family and friends through his ever-present camera lens. Glenn spent many years as a member and a leader of the Calgary 31st Scout Group, sparking his love of the outdoors and developing his organizational and leadership skills. Another of Glenn's passions was the sport of curling to which he devoted many years as an active player, competitor and qualified official. He was associated with the Calgary Curling Club for more than twenty years, enjoying many seasons of curling and fellowship with family and friends. In recent years, Glenn served as a volunteer director with the Southern Alberta Curling Association. Glenn approached life with a contagious enthusiasm, confidence and a sense of purpose and direction which allowed him to accomplish much and explore many trails in his short time with us. A reception and celebration of Glenn's life will be held at a later date, with details to be announced. MARTUL (SUPRUN), Mary (nee Kuchocki) - The angels came to carry Mary to be with her Lord and Saviour at the Norfolk General Hospital, Simcoe on Thursday, July 19th, 2007 in her 86th year. Beloved wife of Walter Martul and the late Julian Suprun (1954). Loving mother of Steve Suprun and his wife Lizabeth of Waterford, the late Alex Suprun (1963) and his fiancée Bev Downing of Port Dover, Liz Harvey and her husband Tom of Simcoe and Tony Suprun and his wife Cathy of Simcoe. Cherished grandmother and great grandmother of Sherry Suprun, her children Brooke & Tyler; Susan Suprun, her son Kyle; the late Greg Brine - 2005 (Yvonne), their children Alexandra, Cooper & Mitchell; Chris Harvey (Connie), their children Bryn, Kennedy, Berkeley & Staige; Greg Harvey (Cheryl); Kim Harris (Paul); Shawn Suprun (Becky), their daughter Natalie; Aron Suprun (Amy), their daughter Elodie Rose; and Jamie Suprun (Rebecca). Mary will be sadly missed by sister Fedora Choc of Brantford. Predeceased by a sister Zenia Maskalik and a brother Joe Kuchocki. In August of 1947, Mary contracted Tuberculosis and over the next 6 years spent much of her time in sanatoriums in both Brantford and Hamilton. As a result of her illness, doctors used her as a “guinea pig“ by mixing experimental drugs upon her suggestion. They administered them to her, viewed her improvement, and ultimately, established the cure for TB that we have today. HONE - McGregor, husband, father, artist, teacher, activist, born February 7, 1920, died July 18, 2007. Mac lived his life with great passion, sharing it with Beth, his wife and collaborator, for over 62 years. While a private man, he made lasting friendships easily. Known for his razorsharp wit, and wide knowledge, he could be relied on to provide the right quote for every occasion. Mac earned his BA and certificate of education at the University of Saskatchewan in 1941. During the war, Mac welded Victory ships at North Vancouver Shipyards. He and Beth were married in Nanaimo in 1944. He first taught in Copper Mountain, BC where Dave was born. In 1947, the family moved to Regina and Mac began his long teaching career at Central Collegiate. Shortly after, Jan was born. In the mid 1950s he attended Emma Lake workshops organized by his friend and teacher Ernie Lindner. In the late 1950s the family traveled to Europe, where Mac studied at the Central School of Arts & Crafts in London. They spent the summers travelling across Europe in a Volkswagen van. In the 60's, Mac, Lloyd Blackman and Jack Williams started Regina's first fine arts high school program at Central Collegiate. Mac developed the visual arts program from which many successful artists graduated. His exciting classes drew students from across Regina, many of whom kept in touch over the years. For them Mac was a mentor, encouraging both creativity and technique. Mac's involvement with the Saskatchewan Teachers Federation included negotiating many improvements in contracts for teachers and serving on the Executive. After his retirement in 1979 he was active in the Superannuated Teachers of Saskatchewan. Throughout his life, Mac painted, drew and made prints. He and Beth traveled extensively. His travels and his passion for history, literature, astronomy, entomology and philosophy inspired his work, which has been shown in numerous galleries, including the National Gallery of Canada, and is held in collections across the country. For 68 consecutive years, Mac produced a greeting card print, much anticipated by friends, reflecting a moment of the past year. Mac's painting By the Radio (1950) was the first work of art purchased by the Saskatchewan Arts Board for its permanent collection. In 1995 the Board gave him its Lifetime Award for Excellence in the Arts. A longtime Unitarian, for many years Mac illustrated and produced The Chalice newsletter for the Regina Fellowship. Mac was predeceased by his daughter Jan in 2004. He will be greatly missed by Beth, his loving wife and best friend of 62 years, son Dave (Carol), son-in-law Jim Hall, grandchildren Brenna (Ryan) Ackerman and Will Hall, great-grandsons Ethan and Avery McGregor Ackerman. The family thanks Dr. Doris Logan and staff of the Regina Qu'Appelle Palliative Care Program, especially the Home Health Aides whose care enabled Mac to remain at home until his death. Special thanks to the many friends and neighbours who provided support to Mac and Beth during his illness, particularly Bob and Sandy Johnson and Kathy Reimer. A celebration of Mac's life will be held at 2:30 pm, Wednesday, July 25 at Regina Apostolic Church, 808 Assiniboine Avenue East. Reception to follow. MUNKACSI, Gary Sands January 9, 1952 - July 17, 2007 Gary, a native Calgarian, passed away on Tuesday, July 17, 2007 at the age of 55 years. Gary was one in a million; his personality was envied by many. He had an easy-going, trusting nature, attested to by his numerous friends; they were like brothers and sisters to him. Gary was a Certified General Accountant and a member of the Calgary Real Estate Board. He achieved a life-long goal of owning his own company, Kelly Daniels INC. Gary loved the outdoors. Starting at a very young age, he learned to ski downhill and raced as a charter member for Skimeisters of Calgary. He held the title of Alberta Champion for two years. After his racing years were over Gary began coaching the Nancy Green League. Even after a hip replacement, Gary could be found at Lake Louise, cruising the slopes. Some of his other passions in life were camping, trips with the family, his dear friend and pet dog Willie, and if there was ice cream to be had, Gary was there. Throughout Gary's courageous battle with cancer he continued to have a positive attitude. He never complained, but treated each day as a gift. He continued to do the things he enjoyed like golfing, fishing, going out with his friends until the end; nothing would deter him if the opportunity arose. He is survived by parents, Kelly and Margaret Munkacsi; sister and brother-in-law, Shirley and Tom Campbell. As well he leaves to mourn, his niece, Tamara and Kelly Maillot Delong; nephew, Kristopher and Hazel Delong; as well as numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Gary was predeceased by his grandparents, Emily and Gordon Sands, and Elizabeth Munkacsi. TURNER, Glen Douglas June 3, 1919 - July 16, 2007 Glen Douglas Turner passed away peacefully at the Calgary Foothills Hospital on Monday, July 16, 2007 at the age of 88. Glen was born and raised in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. In 1939, he joined the Moose Jaw Armed Forces regiment of Kings Own Rifles for duty in World War II. He was quickly promoted to lieutenant and recommended for overseas duty. On July 10, 1942 he married Constance Walter, his Moose Jaw sweetheart, and then left for active duty in France, Germany and Holland with the Calgary Highlander Regiment. Upon release from his Captain's military duties in 1946, Glen and Connie moved to Moose Jaw where Glen worked for the radio station CHAB. In 1947, they moved to Saskatoon where Glen built a successful insurance company, Turner Insurance Agency, and raised their four children. After thirty years in Saskatoon a position for Glen as Senior Vice-President and Director for Marsh McClellan Insurance took them to Calgary. In 1985 Glen and Connie retired to Vernon, British Columbia, returning to Calgary fourteen years later. Throughout all his years of hard work, Glen always had time for his family and friends: boating, camping, fishing, golfing, family trips, curling, bridge and verbal jousting. He had a strong sense of community, volunteering for the Saskatoon Lions Club, Saskatoon Club and many other causes. His generosity, humour and vibrant personality left an impression on all who knew him. Glen's love of life, strong work ethic and family commitment has provided memories for his wife and four children, eight grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren that will remain forever in our hearts. Née à Bouctouche le 1er novembre 1930, elle était fille de feu William et de feu Régina (née Bastarache) LeBlanc. Arnold H. McLeod 1923-2007 Arnold H. McLeod, 84, of The Briarlea, Moncton passed away peacefully at the Moncton Hospital on Wednesday, July 18, 2007. Born in South Branch, Kings Co., son of the late Fred and Hazel (Hall) McLeod. Arnold will be sadly missed by his wife of 62 years, Marjorie (Midge); son, Bob (Gail); daughters, Susan Burke (David), Kathy Duncan (Peter), Elizabeth Matson; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and sister, Pearl Carroll. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his son, Stephen (1977). Arnold started his education career in Pine Glen, Gunningsville, Sussex and Rothesay, then came to Moncton as principal of Victoria School, became the first principal of Queen Elizabeth School and later moved into the School Board Office and became District Director, where he was well respected by his colleagues. In the 1950's, Arnold hosted the local TV show "The Little Red School House". Arnold introduced the Home and School Association concept to Moncton. He served on advisory boards for the YMCA, CNIB, Boy Scouts, NB Arthritic Society, and was a member of the Moncton Rotary Club. Arnold was an active member of First Baptist Church, serving in many capacities, and was a Deacon Emeritus. He also served on committees with the Atlantic Baptist Convention, on the Board of Directors with Atlantic Baptist College, and was Chairman of the Forward Planning Committee with the Canadian Baptist Mission Board for six years. During his career, he was awarded the Samuel Laycock Memorial Award by the Canadian Home and School Association, a Distinguished Service Award by the Canadian Association of School Administrators, and an Outstanding Community Service Award by the Governor General of Canada. Arnold loved life, his family and his friends. He enjoyed his many winters in Florida and the games of tennis he played daily. There he was president of the Home Owners Association and Chairman of a Scholarship Committee, aiding worthy students to attend Community College in Fort Myers. The past two and a half years were a challenge as he sat in his wheelchair battling a muscular disorder, but he did it with dignity and was an inspiration at The Briarlea leading regular chapel times and quiz afternoons, and befriending the girls who so lovingly cared for him. Funeral Service at First Baptist Church, 157 Queen St., Saturday, July 21, 2007 at 2 p.m., Rev. Dr. Richard Jackson officiating. Reception following the service. COONEY, Dorothy (nee Wise). February 9, 1922-July 18, 2007. Called home by her heavenly Father on Wednesday July 18, 2007 Dorothy went to be once again with her beloved husband Thomas Michael. She leaves behind her loving children Bob (Lois Paul) and Donna (Ron Lenhan). She was the loving Nanny to Sean (Laura Levitt), Shannon (Karen Kirouac), Karen (Ryan Mitchell), Darlene (Matthew Sheppard) and Robyn (Marco Ferriera). Proud great-Nanny to Matt, Kameren, Sabrina, Nicholas, Evan and Cameron. And dear lifelong friend to Mona Boyer (Ashton). The family would like to thank the staff at the West Island Manor for the care and comfort they provided to our Mother. Visitation will be at J.F. Wilson and Sons Inc.
