GRENIER, Laurette (Tremblay) 1915 - 2007 Épouse de feu monsieur Édouard Grenier "Peut-être les étoiles sont-elles de petites ouverture dans le ciel par lesquelles les êtres chers que l'on a perdus se manifestent pour nous rassurer et nous dire qu'ils sont heureux là où ils sont rendus."Inspiré d'une légende Inuite Laurette, grande voyageuse, est partie retrouver son Édouard et Jean son grand garçon, laissant derrière elle ceux et celles qu'elle aimait tant. Laurette fut tour à tour institutrice à Saint-Paul-du-Nord, puis universitaire infirmière bachelière à l'Hôpital du Saint-Sacrement pour ensuite devenir une épouse aimante et une mère attentive. Laurette était aussi une peintre talentueuse et une cuisinière hors pair, pour le plus grand plaisir des êtres chers qu'elle aimait rassembler autour de sa table. Elle fut aussi une femme décidée, curieuse de tout et fonceuse, comme en témoigne le "Club des intrépides", fondé il y quelques années avec des amies. Décédée à 92 ans "des suites de la vie" comme elle disait souvent, Laurette est partie le matin du 14 juillet 2007, discrètement, ne voulant déranger personne. Elle laisse dans le deuil tous ceux qu'elle aimait de tout son cœur et qui l'aimaient tout autant : ses enfants Yves et Nicole, de même que Renée Moreau qu'elle chérissait comme une fille; ses petits-enfants adorés Jean-François (Geneviève Labonté), Rosalie (Vincent Rioux), Catherine (Olivier Ferland) et Vincent; son frère Fernand Tremblay, ses belles-sœurs Aline Dubé Tremblay, Denise G. Barnard et Paulette T. Grenier; de nombreux neveux et nièces ainsi que plusieurs amis. Nous souhaitons exprimer un merci spécial à tous ceux, fidèles et généreux, qui ont été présents au cours de la dernière année, pour soutenir Laurette dans les moments plus difficiles et la maladie. KRUPP, John (Jan) Mikhailovich - 29 September 1921 - 16 July 2007 - Following a lengthy illness, an extraordinary man has left us to meet his Saviour and Lord. John passed away in the loving care of his family and spent his last few days in his beloved countryside in the idyllic Carp area. Indeed, the birds outside his window sang a last song for him during his passage. Predeceased by his beloved parents Maria and Mikhail Krupenich, he leaves to mourn his devoted wife of 54 years, Olga Dmitrievna (née Izhikova), his children Alex (Julie) of Stittsville, Leesa (Louis) of Sudbury, Masha (Brian) of Carp, Bill of Collingwood, Anne (Richie) of Sudbury, Laura (Paul) of Kanata, his grandchildren Larisa (James) of Peterborough, Jason (Inhee) of Seoul, Krysana (Curtis) of Sudbury, Michael of Stittsville, Allan and Catherine of Kanata, D'Arcy of Carp, Marjan of Sudbury, and his great-grandchildren Annaliisa, Alessia, Daniel, Kaija, Thomas and Illianna. Predeceased by his brothers Simeon and Corniliy, and by his sisters Anna, Olga, Sonya and Aksana. Survived by his brothers Iosif and Sergei of Russia. John's Herculean physical strength, which was legendary from his birth village of Lyusino in Belarus to the forests of Kapuskasing and the underground mines of Sudbury, masked a compassionate heart that never turned away anyone in need. His kindness to the poor and the dispossessed did not go unnoticed by his children and grandchildren, and he taught them from an early age what it meant to be a true Good Samaritan. He survived the travails and horrors of WW II and made his way to Canada in 1952, where he met and married the beautiful Olga Dmitrievna in Montreal in 1953, and they settled in Sudbury, Ontario, where John worked underground in the mines for INCO for more than 30 years. A devout Christian and a man of unwavering conviction, John was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend, and despite his demanding physical job during his working life, John also served as a lay minister for the Russian Baptist Church in Sudbury for more than 30 years, and worked the family farm in Markstay, Ontario, teaching his children and grandchildren the intrinsic value of hard work, the beauty of nature and the importance of “living off the land”. Strangers and friends alike never forgot John's selfless kindness - prior to leaving Europe in 1952, he worked in the coal mines in Belgium and helped many desperate families come to Canada following the War, himself arriving with one American dollar in his pocket before heading to Northern Ontario to work as a lumberjack. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that those who wish to honour this remarkable man may send a donation in his name to The Mission in Ottawa, or to The Samaritan's Centre in Sudbury. Visitation at the Pinecrest Visitation Centre, 2500 Baseline Road, from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday July 17th 2007. Funeral services will be held at the Parkdale Baptist Church, 474 Parkdale Avenue in Ottawa at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday July 18th 2007, with Dr. George Boltniew officiating. Internment to follow at Highland Park Cemetery, McGee Side Road in Carp. Special thanks to Katherine for her gentleness and sincere compassion in easing our father's passage and to Dr. Yelle for taking the time to make house calls despite his busy schedule. Thank you also to Diane for taking over in the kitchen during our time of need, and to Robert and Glen for all the walleye that my father was able to enjoy in the last years of his life. Sincere thanks to all the neighbours and friends who offered their help and support. Also thank you to Dr. Boltniew for taking the time to travel to Ottawa from New Jersey to minister to the family and officiate at the funeral. McLEISH, Marian Grace Passed peacefully at Princess Gardens in Peterborough on Monday July 16 at age 88. Loving wife of the late C. W. McLeish for 45 years; devoted mother of Bill, Don, Shirley, Jo, Rob, and Jamie; treasured grandmother of fifteen and great grandmother of six. Born in Saskatoon in 1919, Grace was active with Gloucester Presbyterian Church, family and community. BOURQUE, DOREEN MARY - The unexpected passing of Doreen Bourque, wife of the late Gerard "Gerry" Bourque of Ellerdale Street, Saint John East, NB occurred on Monday, July 16, 2007 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Doreen was born in Saint John on April 14, 1931 a daughter of the late Alphonse and Annie (Cyr) Arsenault. She was a member of St. Joseph's Parish, devoted to her family and enjoyed playing bingo. Survived by five sons: Ronald (Roberta) of Rothesay, NB, Edgar (Corrine), Gerald (Louise) and Darrell, all three of Saint John and Mark (Freda) of Rothesay; nine daughters: Janice (Leroy) Dukeshire of Saint John, Carol (Leonard) Carvell of the Kingston Peninsula, Linda (Raymond "Moe") Myers of Saint John West, Deborah (Donald) Snodgrass of Willow Grove, NB, Diane (Dan) McIntyre of Saint John, Jean, Cindy (Dennis) and Theresa (Rick), all three of Saint John and Darlene (Kenny) McFarlane of Sussex, NB; two sisters: Shirley Logan of Saint John and Donna (Greg) Butcher of Upper Golden Grove, NB; 34 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. Doreen was predeceased by her husband, Gerry in October, 2000; two sons: Wayne and Allan; one grandson, Noel; two brothers, George and Ronnie and four sisters: Verlyne, Rhona, Linda and Joan. LA FAMILLE BÉGIN a le regret de vous annoncer le décès de M. LAVAL P. BÉGIN ing. Ingénieur civil Université McGill, 1958, Montréal. Gradué de l’Université McGill en 1958 comme ingénieur civil, il a travaillé comme cadre et gestionnaire pour l’ACDI (Agence Canadienne de Développement International) et la Fonction Publique fédérale pendant plus de 35 ans. Impliqué depuis le tout début de la création de l’ACDI, son enthousiasme et sa passion pour l’aide extérieure et pour l’aide humanitaire l’a conduit à gérer de nombreux projets d’infrastructure en Afrique francophone, en Asie et en Amérique Latine. Éternel bricoleur, il était aussi un passionné de l’aviation, du plein-air et de l’histoire. Décédé paisiblement, le lundi 16 juillet 2007, au CSSS (hôpital de Gatineau), à l’âge de 73 ans. Il était l’époux bien-aimé de Suzanne Leclair, infirmière (née à Sudburry) et le fils de feu Dr Pierre Bégin et de feu Marie-Èva Belzile. Arsidas Sauvé, of Smooth Rock Falls, died at the Smooth Rock Falls Hospital on July 9, 2007. He enjoyed being in the woods along with hunting and fishing and trapping. He also loved to go grocery shopping. Emilienne Marie Rocheleau nee: LeBlanc, of Hearst The funeral service for Hearst resident Emilienne Marie (née LeBlanc) Rocheleau, 75, is to be held July 18 (today), 2007. She died July 13, suddenly, at Notre-Dame Hospital. Born March 9, 1933 in Roquemaure, Québec, she was a member of les Filles d’Isabelle. Predeceased by her husband André A. Rocheleau in 2002, she leaves daughters Nicole and Carole Rocheleau, both of Ottawa, son Michel of Hearst, sisters Marguerite Vachon of Smooth Rock Falls and Jeannine Bourgon of Du Parquet, Qué., and a brother Herménégilles LeBlanc of Chibougamau, Qué. Also surviving are grandchildren Tanya-Ann Rocheleau and Alex Nadeau, both of Hearst. Cremation was done at Hillcrest Crematorium. Rev. HANSON, John Olaf - (March 11, 1921 July 16, 2007) After a brief illness, John passed away quietly at St. Paul's Hospital. Left to grieve are his wife, Violet, his three children, Marion (David) Gorrie, Don Hanson, Vivian (Keith) Walker, and ten terrific grandchildren: Jonathan, Joel, Katie Gorrie, Rory, Andrew, Annalise Hanson, James, Eric, Graham and Gillian Walker. Other close family include sisters Linnea Tweidt and twin Edith Brierley, sisters-in-law Ruth Fearnside and Eunice Halen, brother-in-law Ken Barr, Heather Hanson, and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. John was predeceased by his parents, Josef and Selma Hanson, brother, Hans, and sister, Sadie (1918). John was born in Wadena to a homesteading, Swedish immigrant family. He loved the land of Saskatchewan and lived all of his life here. After rural school primary education in the Wadena area and town board-and-room high school, he came to Saskatoon to study agriculture at the U of S. He was a proud member of the Class of '43 and remained close with these friends throughout his adult life. Class reunions, as recent as four weeks ago, were highlights and gave initiative to the Class of '43 Bursary Fund within the College of Agriculture. John returned to Wadena to establish a garage / lumber yard business with his older brother, Hans. He met and married Vi (Halen), started their family, and involved himself in many community clubs and activities. Nearby Fishing Lake became their summer home and visiting center for friends and family members. Nieces and nephews were often found picking rocks and enjoying lake visits. John welcomed Hanson and Halen family-get-togethers all his life. With this love of agriculture, John made a career change at the age of 40. He entered the provincial "Ag Rep " force in 1962 with postings to Hudson Bay and Moose Jaw. Between these two, John tackled an educational adventure ('66-67) in Madison, Wisconsin. There he earned his M.Ed. in Ag. Extension, with Vi as typist and kids alongside. Many honours followed John's career in Agriculture. He enjoyed his work and loved the people. 4H friends abounded. Interesting projects and hosting many foreign groups enriched John & Vi's Moose Jaw time. John thrived on his Co-op coffee times, Credit Union board duties, U of R Senate work, and numerous Sask. and Canadian Agrology committees. He retired in 1986 with two years of contract work gently leading John further into his hobbies. Winter adventures to Holiday Village, Mesa, Arizona grew longer each year with John & Vi returning healthier and happy each Easter season. John loved music. He had a beautiful tenor voice that was added to many church and community choirs through the years. Big band swing music was his favourite, especially if he could put on a dapper outfit and dancing shoes. Photography, bridge games, auction sale scouting, and record collecting all warmed his life. He was proud of his Swedish heritage. Two trips to Sweden, language lessons, together with researching valued family memorabilia highlighted this pride. He even earned a recent TV spot on the Antiques Roadshow. John & Vi relocated to Saskatoon to be close to immediate and extended family seven years ago. Many celebrations, gettogethers, as well as farewells, have enriched these years. His quiet, thoughtful, gentle presence will be dearly missed. Many, many thanks to the doctors, nurses, and other staff that lovingly cared for John in the last days of his life here on earth. A celebration of his life will be held at Caleb Manor, Saskatoon on Friday, July 20th at 3 pm. PICKERSGILL: Joanne Ruth 1953 - 2007 Joanne Ruth Pickersgill (Hall) passed away peacefully in the Peter Lougheed Hospital in Calgary on Thursday, July 6, 2007 with her family by her side at the age of 54 years. Joanne was born in Drumheller on June 29, 1953. She grew up on the family farm north of Delia. She took her schooling in Delia as well. She worked for many years in Calgary for companies in the transport business. On November 14, 1985 Joanne married Dennis Pickersgill in Stettler. They have one daughter, Michelle Lynne, who was born on October 18, 1986. Joanne’s special love was of horses and her many, many camping trips with her daughter to Pine Lake. She belonged to the Fort Calgary Wheel & Runners Riding Club Joanne is survived by her loving husband Dennis and her daughter Michelle (Aaron) of Calgary, her mother Charlotte Hall of Stettler, her sisters Viola (Eldon) Wilson of Stettler, Arlene (Don) Herzog of Delia, brothers Don (Bev) Hall of Delia, David (Barb) Hall of Camrose and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Joanne was predeceased by her father Ernie Hall in 2004. According to her wishes, Joanne was laid to rest in Delia with only her immediate family present. LAIDLAW, Sharon Elaine Sienko - It is with great sadness the family announces that Sharon Elaine Sienko Laidlaw passed away much too young on Tuesday July 17th, 2007. Beloved wife of Darren, and stepmother to Sean (16), Stephen (14) and Sarah (12), all of Brantford, Ontario. Sharon is survived by her parents, Donna and Richard Sienko currently living in Paris, Ontario and her immediate family; sister Susan, husband Dr. James Thomas, daughters Morgan and Sydney of Portland OR; sister Stephanie, her husband David Bird, daughter Kendall of Pickering, ON and brother Stephen of Toronto, ON. Daughter- in-law to Louis and Mary Laidlaw of Brantford, ON. Born on March 17, 1965, the second child of Donna and Richard Sienko, Sharon was raised in Toronto and attended school in Agincourt, graduating as an Ontario Scholar from L'Amoreaux High School. Her passions during school were music and sports where she played a number of instruments in various school bands and excelled in field hockey as a goalie at the provincial level. Sharon graduated from the University of Western Ontario in 1988 with a degree in Honors Music Education and in 1989 completed her Bachelor of Education degree from Queen's University in Kingston. Sharon received a Masters of Education Degree in 2001 from Charles Sturt University in Wagga Wagga, Australia. Sharon taught at a number of schools in Brantford Ontario (former Brant County Board of Education and current Grand Erie District School Board) primarily in special education roles. In 2001, she became a Special Education Consultant and in 2005, co-ordinator. In addition to her duties, Sharon taught education courses at the Brantford campus of both Nipissing and Brock Universities. Sharon was passionate about everything including her family, education, sports and her faith. For these things she will always be remembered and missed by those whose lives she touched. The family would like to thank the staff at the Juravinski Cancer Centre in Hamilton and at the Stedman Community Hospice in Brantford for their care and support during Sharon's battle with cancer. LAWSON, John Peter (R.C.N. Ret'd) - Of Belleville Ontario, in his 82nd year. Peacefully July 17th 2007 with family by his side. After illness and several weeks of pneumonia, Peter showed great courage and resolve. Son of the late Arthur Gorham Lawson and Emily Jean (nee Rogers). Survived by his loving wife Georgina (nee Yuill), son Christopher and daughter in-law Susan. “Grandpa-Pete“ to Nicole, Charlotte and Alexandria. Dear brother to James and his wife Patricia of Ottawa. Will be greatly missed by his many nieces and nephews. Peter was born in Montreal. It was there and Toronto where he spent his childhood.As a young man he attended Trinity College school in Port Hope Ontario. In 1943 Peter received a scholarship to Royal Roads Naval College. He served as an officer in both the Royal Canadian Navy and Naval Reserve. Post WWII and his completion of active duty, Peter continued his studies at St. George Williams College in Montreal (Concordia University) where he earned his degree. Later he accepted a position with Shell Canada as a sales and marketing executive and returned once again to Toronto. He and Georgina were married in 1965 and welcomed the birth of their only child Christopher in 1966. An opportunity to relocate to Belleville Ontario in 1976 was enthusiastically taken, where Peter was the Shell Canada eastern Ontario industrial sales rep. In 1982 he retired and continued to pursue his keen interest in horse racing, model trains, photography, sailing, his impressive stamp collection and his love and devotion to his family. A heartfelt thank you to the amazing nurses and staff at Hallowell House in Picton who's care, compassion and dedication has been of great comfort. PHILPOTTS, George - passed away peacefully surrounded by his family after a heroic battle with lung cancer, Monday July 09, 2007 at Freeport Health Centre of Grand River Hospital at the age of 70. Beloved husband of Valerie (nee Rinneard) Philpotts for 45 years. Loving father of Valmarie Hart and her husband William of Ottawa and April Philpotts of Waterloo. Dear grandpa to Melyndi, Michael Kati-Lynn, Michaela, Daniel, Jacinta, Joseph and Matthew. Predeceased by his mother Alice and father Percy Philpotts and sister Doreen Zubrecki of Dryden. George was the deputy clerk in Dryden (late 1950's - 1971) and Clerk Treasurer in Red Lake (1971 - 1972). He then moved to Thunder Bay in 1972 and shortly thereafter embarked upon a career as an entrepreneur in the home renovation business as owner/director of Mr. Seamless and the Window Shop. In addition to his career accomplishments, George was an active volunteer within the community of Thunder Bay and Elliot Lake. He served as a driving force in fundraising for a number of charitable organizations including Kiwanis, George Jeffery Children's Centre, and Easter Seals campaigns. He will be fondly remembered for his contributions. George will be especially remembered by his family for the quiet strength and love he demonstrated through to the final hours. MOORE, William Vining (Bill) - Passed away peacefully at the age of 82 on Wednesday July 11, 2007 at the Hill House Hospice in Richmond Hill. Bill will be dearly missed by his wife Maria; his children Linda Armstrong, Diane White, Kevin Barrett and Caroline Geenen; his sons-in-law: Michael Purmort (and his wife Pat), Peter Armstrong, Michael White, Mark Geenen; his daughter- in-law Kimberly Barrett, as well as his 10 grandchildren: Jessica, Carly and Michelle Purmort; Thomas, Amanda and Ryan Armstrong; Stephen and Christopher White; Lauren and Madeline Geenen. He will also be missed by Jackie and Bill Hood and their children Kaitlyn and Riley; as well as Barb Martin and Fred Schwering and their sons Carl, Robert and Fredrick. Bill is lovingly remembered by his sister Nancy Marinelli (Luigi) and his nieces Lucia and Madeline. He was predeceased by his brother Peter (Phyllis) and his daughter Sharon Purmort. Bill was born in Oshawa, the son of Albert Lauder and Jean (MacEwen) Moore. He served his country in the RCAF from 1943 to 1946. Upon leaving the service he enrolled in Queen's University and graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Commerce in 1951. Bill soon took a sales position with IBM Canada and was appointed President in 1969. After leaving IBM in 1972, he pursued other business ventures in information technology.Larger than life, Bill was a charming, outgoing, funny, optimistic and encouraging man. Every cloud he saw had a silver lining and he was quick to support his friends and family. Extremely intelligent and a brilliant card player, he attained the status of Life Master in contract bridge. He was an avid golfer and downhill skier and continued pursuing both sports long after most people hang up their gear. Bill kept his sense of humour, charm and gratitude throughout his illnesses. There will be a visitation on Saturday July 21st from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm at Fawcett Funeral Home, 82 Pine Street, Collingwood, Ontario. A church service will be held at Emmanuel Presbyterian Church in Clearview Township on Sunday July 22nd at 2:00 pm and a reception will follow immediately at the Blue Mountain Golf and Country Club in Collingwood. In his final days, Bill received compassionate and loving care at the Hill House Hospice in Richmond Hill. GIECK: David 1916 - 2007 David Gieck of Drumheller passed away at the Drumheller Hospital at the age of 91 years. David Gieck was born on February 13, 1916 in the hospital in Maple Creek, Saskatchewan, his parents were August and Christina Gieck. In the first five years of his life he lived in Fox Valley, about 30 miles north of Maple Creek where his parents had a homestead. In 1921 he moved to Lodi, California with his parents. They worked in the fruit orchards in California, but in 1927 the family moved back to Canada, first to Acme, Alberta, where they farmed for two years, and then to Carbon in 1929, where they rented a farm about four miles west of town. Dave started school in California and was in grade 5 when they came to Canada. He attended Selkirk School in Acme for two years in a country school about 8 miles north west of Acme, also Avondale, about four miles west of Carbon and also the Carbon School. Dave was in grade 10 when he quit Carbon High School in 1932, and farmed with his brother August on a farm they rented in the Swalwell district. On July 30, 1941 Dave married Rose Ohlhauser and they farmed together south of Carbon for 35 years. In 1963 they built a new house on the farm, and on August 1, 1974, they moved this same house to Carbon. Dave farmed another two years while living in town. They then sold the farm and retired. Dave loved sports, golfing, fishing, bowling and also gardening. His pride and joy was planting 200 gladiolus every year. He loved flowers and always had a display of various varieties. He was predeceased by his wife Rose, who passed away on November 22, 1991 in the Drumheller Regional hospital with a massive stroke, his mother Christine in 1959 and father, August in 1959, also a sister, Lillian (Art) Nicher on September 2, 1997, a brother August (Martha) on February 13 (on Dave’s birthday), and one sister Martha Richardson in 2005 On December 7, 1996, Dave married Angela Maria Butt of Drumheller, Alberta and they took up residence in the new Condominium, the Keystone Towers in downtown Drumheller. Dave is survived by his dear wife Angela, one brother, Bert (Ester) of Calgary, Alberta, one brother-in-law Ed Richardson of Seattle, Washington, one step-daughter, Cathy (Bob) Chambers of Drumheller, Ed Butt of Fort McMurray, Tony (Cathy) Butt of Drumheller, and seven step grandchildren, and two great grandchildren. Also many nieces and nephews, of special mention is Melody Lane, a niece, but more like a daughter` to Dave. She spent many of her summer holidays and even her pre-school years on the farm with Dave and his wife during his lifetime, she kept in touch with him regularly by telephone and visits. Dave accepted the Lord Jesus as his Saviour on January 10, 1932 and was baptized that same year, joining the church and was a member of the Carbon Baptist Church until his death. He was active in church work during his life time while he lived in Carbon, as Young People’s President. Youth and part time adult Sunday School teacher, church clerk for 29 consecutive years, Deacon for 18 years, as well as chairman of the Flower on Hospital Committee. On behalf of the church he would visit the hospital patients and present them with a card and flowers from the church.Funeral Services for David Gieck will be held from the Carbon Baptist Church on Thursday, July 19, 2007 at 2:00 P.M. with Reverend Richard Kauenhofen officiating. MacINNIS, Dr. Cameron Died peacefully on July 11, 2007, at St. Michael's Hospital, Toronto, in his 82nd year, with Mary, his devoted sister, at his side. Born March 25, 1926 in West Bay, Nova Scotia, Cameron was the son of Alexander and Janet (Cameron) MacInnis. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by brothers Ian and Allister, and nephew, David MacInnis. He is survived by beloved sisters Anna (Grey) Austin, Calgary, and Mary MacInnis, Toronto; thirteen nieces and nephews, seventeen great-nieces and nephews, and countless friends. Cameron received his primary and secondary education in West Bay and Sydney, Nova Scotia, following which he graduated Bachelor of Science from Dalhousie University in 1946, and Bachelor of Engineering (Honours Civil Engineering) from the Technical University of Nova Scotia in 1948. After working as a research engineer for Ontario Hydro for eleven years, he was awarded a bursary by the Cement and Concrete Association (UK) for doctoral studies in concrete technology at the University of Durham (England), receiving the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in 1962. Cameron was appointed professor of Civil Engineering at the University of Windsor in 1963, beginning a long and distinguished career as an outstanding teacher, researcher, and administrator. He was Head of the Department of Civil Engineering from 1976 to 1979 and Dean of Engineering from 1979 to 1989, retiring as Professor Emeritus in 1991. An internationally recognized expert on concrete, Cameron's research was supported over many years by grants from the National Science and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC), and resulted in numerous scientific articles. He and former student, Dr. Norbert Becker, received the prestigious Wason Medal for Materials Research of the American Concrete Institute in 1975, for the best paper of the year in that field. In recognition of his outstanding contributions to engineering science Cameron was made a Life Member and Fellow of the Canadian Society of Civil Engineering, a Fellow of the American Concrete Institute, and a Fellow of the Engineering Institute of Canada. However, what gave him the greatest pleasure were the accomplishments of his students. Cameron also distinguished himself in professional and community service. He was a referee for numerous scholarly journals and for NSERC and the National Research Council of Canada, a member of various technical committees of the Canadian Standards Association and the American Concrete Institute, and Chairman of the Board of the Border Cities Branch of the Engineering Institute of Canada. He served on the University of Windsor Senate and Board of Governors, the Council of Ontario Universities, the Board of Directors of the London Goodenough Association of Canada, and the Board of Windsor's Metropolitan Hospital. Cameron manifested his strong commitment to human rights through membership in Amnesty International and as an envoy of the First Unitarian Church, Toronto, to the United Nations NGO. Cameron's life was enriched by his love of art, music, and theatre. He was a voracious reader and a wonderful conversationalist. He travelled extensively, with favourite destinations being Great Britain and Nova Scotia. Cameron had a delightful and often mischievous sense of humour. His gregarious nature was a hallmark of who he was. He was comfortable in any social situation and had a marvellous capacity to put others at ease. A man of high principles and great integrity, he was exemplary in his loyalty and devotion to family and friends. Cameron will be remembered as a true gentleman, and is held in the greatest respect and affection by all who were so very fortunate to know him. A celebration of Cameron's life will be held on Saturday, September 15, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Unitarian Church, 175 St. Clair Avenue West, Toronto. Immediately following there will be a reception at the Church. SAMPSON, JOHN JAMES, JR. - Suddenly at the Kirkland & District Hospital on Saturday, June 9, 2007 in his 47th year. Cherished and beloved son of Rita Mahonen & her husband Clave. Predeceased by his father, John James, Sr. and by his sister Rita Rae. Sadly missed by his girlfriend Sue Martell and by his step-brothers Mark Mahonen and Michael Mahonen.
