OBITUARY MARGARET E. FOUNTAIN Age ninety-seven, died at Alliance Care Adult Family Home in Seattle in the company of her family on July 6, 2007. Born in Montreal, Canada in February 1910, Margaret earned an undergraduate degree at McGill University, where she was a founding member of Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority. She married Jack Fountain of Hackensack, NJ in 1937 and spent most of her adult life in New Jersey.he moved to Seattle in 1989 after Jack died.ater, while in her 90's, she met and entered into a commitment relationship with Herman Wallenfels. An avid lover of music, in Seattle she played clarinet with the North Seattle Community College Symphonic Band and, later, with the Rain City Symphony. She was active in her church and other activities in a way that, somehow, always touched the hearts of those who grew to know her. Margaret is survived by her three sons John, Kenneth and Robert and her grand-daughter Katherine. She was loved by all, and we miss her very much. A memorial service will be held at the University Unitarian Church, of which she was a member, at 6556 35th Ave NE, Seattle on Monday, July 16 at 11:00 AM. HANSON, Travis Irvin John, age 17, currently of Craven, Sk. passed away at Regina General Hospital on July 14 as a result of complications following a tragic motor vehicle accident. Travis is the son of Darren and Sharlene Hanson, brother to Dylan and Tyrell and special friend of Nikki Wall. He is the grandson of Mervin and Arleen Kryzanowski of Wadena and Raymond and Sandra Hanson of Archerwill. ADAIR, Robert (Bob) Nichols July 8, 1922 - July 14, 2007 Out Beyond Ideas of wrongdoing and right doing, there is a field. I'll meet you there. When the soul lies down in the grass, the world is too full to talk about. (Written by: Rumi, 13th century) Robert Nichols Adair Jr., beloved husband of Julie Rowney of Calgary, passed away on Saturday, July 14, 2007 at the age of 85 years. Robert Nichols Adair Jr. was born to Robert Nichols Adair Sr. and Zorayda Cochrane Adair in Maysville, Kentucky. His early childhood already reflected his progressive social attitude in his fully integrated sandbox south of the Mason-Dixon Line that was open to all. At the age of twelve he entered the Kentucky Military Institute in Lyndon, Kentucky where he completed two years and excelled in history. He then entered a college preparatory program at The Hill School where he graduated in 1941, earning a varsity letter in track and field and the nickname "Smoky". His years at the Kentucky Military Institute allowed him to enter Officer Candidate School at Cornell University. Robert chose Cornell because of its diverse student population and liberal education. He interrupted his formal education when he gained the rank of First Lieutenant in the US Army and joined the 753rd tank battalion then fighting in Northern France. Robert received the Purple Heart, the Bronze Star, and an Army Commendation Ribbon during the invasion and occupation of Germany. He finished the war as Adjutant in Berlin during the occupation. Robert was the last surviving Officer of the battalion and remained strongly supportive of its legacy. Following his first trip to the Canadian Rockies in 1946 he completed his Bachelor of Arts degree at Cornell University. He began his career in the oil industry in 1946 as a roustabout in Alvin, Texas and subsequently with a permanent move to Calgary with Stanolind Oil in 1950. Robert continued his career with Pathfinder Oil and Gas and the formation of his own company, R.N. Adair Oil Management and Zorayda Oil Co. Ltd., in the mid 1950's. Bob started writing the R. Adair Oil Memorandum in 1964 for a special client and on June 28, 1968 he issued Oil Memorandum No. 1. This weekly publication, distributed to a varying number of clients over the years, reached No. 1999 on July 12, 2007. Bob Adair was known to all as a gentleman who loved family, nature, gardening, poetry, music, the arts, and traveling. He embraced a balanced and healthy lifestyle, while he explored the many avenues of life's opportunities and adventures. Bob was as comfortable listening to progressive rock artists at New York's CBGB's Nightclub as he was listening to concerts at the Lincoln Center. Gardening was a particular love and his legacy continues in the many trees and plants he faithfully tended. These diverse passions were embraced to his final hour. Bob was truly a renaissance man. Robert is survived by his loving wife Julie; first wife, Doris; daughter Diane; sons, Stuart, Robin, and David; grandchildren, Maggie, William, Isabel, Paul, Andrew, Kaitlyn, and Patrick; stepdaughters, Susan and Carolyn and grandchildren Erin and Jonathan. He was predeceased by his daughter Katharine, second wife Helen, and granddaughter Katherine. ANDERSON, Christina Lillian "Chris" 1927 - 2007 It is with great sorrow we announce that our beloved mother Christina Anderson of Balzac passed away on July 15, 2007. Chris was born on December 26, 1927 in Retlaw, AB, the ninth child of a family of eleven, to John and Mary Lukacs. Chris was well known for her singing in the Balzac community for many years. She loved to play her Yamaha piano and was gifted with a strong Catholic faith. Chris leaves behind her two daughters, Maureen (Rick) Gordanier and their daughter Nicole of Calgary, Karen (Wayne) Ahern and their sons Graydon and Garrett of Airdrie; two brothers, Bernie (Elsie) Lukacs and Lawrence (Mary) Lukacs, all of Calgary; two sisters, Agnes O'Sullivan of Calgary, and Irene Clark of Lethbridge, AB; and many nieces and nephews. Chris was predeceased by her husband Stanley in 1996, four brothers and two sisters. DERBIS, Kristina Kristina Erika (nee McIvor) Derbis, beloved wife of Tim Derbis of Chestermere, AB, passed away suddenly on July 12, 2007 at the age of 32 years. Kristina will be lovingly remembered by her mother, Veronika McIvor; brothers, Paul (Dawn) McIvor, Peter (Shelly) Matieschyn and Roman (Donna) Matieschyn; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her father, Donald McIvor. Kristina grew up in Chestermere where she graduated high school in 1993. She went on to college and university earning her BA in Psychology. Kristina was an avid reader, movie fan and had a great love for animals. Those of us who knew her have all been touched by the kindness of her heart. She was a caring and helpful person that will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed. FLEMING, Margaret Caroline Caroline Fleming (nee MacKenzie) passed away July 13, 2007 at the age of 90 years. "Carrie" was born in Rosetown, Saskatchewan, daughter of Charles MacKenzie and Jean Hamilton. She attended the University of Saskatchewan and McGill University graduating with degrees in Library Sciences. Carrie worked in the Cypher Department of Naval Services Head Quarters during the war, then went back to her family roots and worked in Scotland for a few years. She worked for the Glenbow Foundation, heading up the Archive Department for many years and then the University of Calgary Library as the head of cataloguing department. She retired to "Hidden Valley" near Carstairs, boarding and raising horses with her husband, Bill. She was very involved in the Carstairs Legion. Carrie finished out her life on the farm with her beloved animals and her "special" caregiver, Arwin. She is survived by Maurene Lalonde of Ottawa, Shelagh Fleming of Calgary and their families. By her cousins, Marion Flipowich of Lloydminster, Alberta, Don and Keith Green of Rosetown, Saskatchewan and their families. Carrie also leaves her caregivers, Arwin Alcaraz, Brenda Wagner, Sherry Luft and Patty Patterson. She will be sadly missed by her parents, Deborah and Dennis O'Brien and Tim McBeth; sisters, Amy (Ross) and Arielle; brother Jordan; niece Grace; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Carla was born in Calgary and moved to Red Deer at the age of four. She loved music and during her teen years she spent her hours playing piano, flute and bagpipes. She was a member of the Red Deer Legion Pipe Band before her high school graduation in 1997. Carla then moved to Edmonton where she took some science courses at the University of Alberta before returning to Red Deer to work as a medical lab assistant at the hospital. In 2003, Carla enrolled at Red Deer College to study social work. She obtained her diploma in 2005 and then continued her education at the University of Calgary. She graduated with her Bachelor of Social Work in June 2007. Carla was hard working and earned several scholarships during her university years. She also enjoyed working at the Youth Shelter. Carla served as VP Admin of the First Nations Student Association at the U of C. Carla had a passion for the outdoors and animals, especially horses and cats. She was a vibrant person who could fill a room with her presence and beautiful smile, we will miss her forever. WILLIAMS, William (Bill) November 26, 1961 - July 13, 2007 Willie passed away peacefully at home after a difficult battle with stomach cancer with his wife and stepson by his side. He leaves to grieve, Dad Bill; wife Gerty; stepchildren Renee, Don Massong, Lilli TM; and mother-in-law Lilli Nischik. Also grieving are many extended relatives and special friends he made throughout his lifetime. Willie was predeceased by his mother Geraldine in 2005. He presently worked for General Dynamics (his dream job). In the 1990's he obtained his B.Sc in Electrical Engineering from the U of C. For thirty-five years Willie was an avid martial artist in Muay Thai, Kickboxing, and Brazilian Jujitsu. With instruction from his long-time friend Mike Miles, he achieved Masters Level in Muay Thai and Kickboxing and was recognized for his technical prowess. He served as a certified official as well. Willie was a happy, humble, polite and generous man. Only time will heal the hurt in the hearts of those who knew him. Donald Sanipass 1928 - 2007 CARIBOU, MAINE - Donald Joseph Daniel Sanipass, 78, died July 15, 2007 at his Caribou residence. He was born in Shediac, N.B., Canada, October 26, 1928, the son of David and Margaret Labobe Sanipass. He was a member of the Canadian Black Watch, Queens Guard of the Canadian Army. Donald was a member of the Aroostook band of Mi'Kmaq, serving as its first Chief. He married Marry Ann Lafford. Surviving, in addition to his wife of Caribou, are one son, David Sanipass; four daughters, Marlene, Donna, and Roldena Sanipass and Cheryl Lafford; one brother, Joey Sanipass of Big Cove, N.B.; and a sister, Lisa Denny of Eskasoni N.S. It was very seldom that you would see them apart. Father always called mother “My Sweets”. He always made his children and grandchildren laugh and enjoyed having them over. Poppa always enjoyed the company of all who visited him and loved to tease. Pop truly loved his chair and loved to watch all kinds of sports. He met many people over the years and had many, many friends. MARCELLUS, Clifford George After a brief illness, Cliff passed away peacefully at the age of 48 years on Friday, July 13, 2007 at the Foothills Hospital with his wife Linda and his brother Jim at his side. Born and raised in Calgary, Cliff worked for the Institute for Space Research at the University of Calgary for twenty-nine years, both as Network Manager and as Senior Systems Programmer-Analyst, writing flight software for experiments aboard sounding rockets and satellites involved in researching space plasma and auroral processes. He also co-instructed CPSC 550 at the university. He especially enjoyed chatting with friends, coworkers, and students during the day, and encouraged them to stop by his office by keeping a never-ending stock of candy at his desk. He was also a passionate science fiction fan, especially enjoying all the Star Trek series and most of the Star Trek movies. His greatest love was for his family, especially his wife Linda, son Tyler, and daughter Kailee who will dearly miss him. He is also survived by his brother Jim Marcellus and niece Riley, both of Arizona as well as the many members of his extended family who will all miss him greatly. NEWMAN, Hazel M. (Hubbard) - The death of Hazel M. Newman occurred on June 17, 2007 at the Surrey Memorial Hospital, Surrey, BC, following a brief illness. Born in Cody's, NB, the daughter of the late William and May (Fisher) Hubbard of Long Reach, NB. Hazel served with the RCAF Women's Division, during WWII. Predeceased by her husband, Harold Newman; sister, Willa M. Rogers; brothers, Harry, Clayton and George Hubbard. Survived by her son, Daniel Newman (Pat) of Calgary, AB; daughter, Gayle Newman, Richmond, BC; grandchildren, Tyler, Sarah, Nathan and Megan Newman; sister, Eileen Peters, Chester, NS; sister-in-law, Helen Hubbard, Riverside, RI; several nieces and nephews. FOSTER, Jean Avery (Dugdale) March 16th, 1919 - July 15th, 2007 Jean passed away at her nursing home residence in Hope Quebec with her family at her side. Jean was predeceased by her husband Arthur Dugdale in 1983; also predeceased by her second husband Wilbert Foster. Left to mourn are her sister Mary Lou Leacock , Jasper, Ontario and brother Ken Avery, Maberly. Also her children and their spouses: Bob (Gloria) London, Ontario Anne (Gordon) Hope, Quebec, Ruth (Billy) Bonaventure, Quebec and David (Norma), Lanark, Ontario; grandchildren Scott, Rhonda (Bob), Robert, Kevin, Jeannie, Trudy (Anne), Arden, Aaron (Ruth), Eric, Sarah (David) and thirteen wonderful great-grandchildren. Jean was a loving person who took time to make each one in her company feel special. Jean led a Christian life by example and her testimony as a godly woman has influenced many lives and will continue on into the future.
