HARMAN, Eleanor Claire (nee Thompson). Passed away peacefully on July 9, 2007 at the Huntingdon Community Hospital at the age of eighty-three. Predeceased by her husband, John Stanley Harman in 2003, in their fifty-second year of marriage. Loving mother of Barbara (Bill), Douglas (Melanie), Ted (Nancy), Don (Laura) and James (Cathy). Loved grandmother of Julie, Brian, Megan, Scott, Sophia, Kyle, Jeremy and Graham. Dear sister of Jean (Milton). Predeceased by her sisters Eileen (Dave), Nan (Curly) and Phyllis (Ken). Eleanor will be fondly remembered by her nieces, nephews, family and friends. A very special thanks to the caregivers at the Huntingdon Community Hospital, Dr. Greg Geukjian and the staff at the Barrie Memorial Hospital in Ormstown for the exceptional care and the support that they provided to Eleanor and to the family over the past several months. The visitation and memorial service will be held in August at Rideau Funeral Home, 4275 Blvd. des Sources, D.D.O., 514-685-3344. Visitation on Tuesday, August 7 from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Brief visitation on Wednesday, August 8 from 10 a.m., immediately prior to the memorial service and interment commencing at 11 a.m. A reception will be held following the service and all are welcome to join the family to celebrate her life. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Ladies Auxiliary of the Huntingdon Community Hospital at 198 Chateauguay, Huntingdon, Quebec J0S 1H0. OBITUARY ALBERT HILL At his residence, surrounded by family, Albert Hill, of London passed away on July 11, 2007. Friend and brother for 61 years of Charlie Chuck Clark. Predeceased by his parents William Hill and Ellen Waite. Beloved brother of Isabell Adcroft-Major (Late Harold and Leo), Marion Dumoulin and her husband Peter, William Hill Jr. Bill and his late wife May, Agnes Peggy Bray and her late husband Sydney. Also survived by many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews. Sadly missed by many friends. Albert was a life member of Southwest London Optimists Club, life member of London Junior Knights, 31 year co-chair of the London Optimists Junior Golf, and the founder and chair of the Canadian Optimists Junior Golf National Championships. Visitation will be held on Friday from 5 to 9 p.m. at the Westview Funeral Chapel, 709 Wonderland Road North, where the funeral service will be conducted on Saturday, July 14, 2007 at 3 p.m. (with visitation two hours prior to the service). SPIER, Beatrice (nee Roseman). Eighty-two, of Hallandale, Florida and Montreal, having recently moved to Easthampton, Mass. passed away on Wednesday,July 11th 2007 at Linda Manor in Leeds, Mass, after a brief illness. She was born in Montreal, Canada and moved to Florida in 1981. She was pre-deceased by her three husbands, Lou Spier, Joe Dolman, and Bernard Graber. She was also pre-deceased by her beloved son, Gary,and her brothers Abe, Barney, and Dave. She is survived by her adoring daughter, Terry Ellen Spier-Kalmar and her daughter-in-law Elaine Spier-Kalmar. She is also survived by her beloved brother Saul (Sonny) Roseman and his wife Hinda of Montreal, her four grandchildren, Stephanie Stein, Kimberly Stein, Lindsay Spier and Winde Whitaker; and her beloved niece and nephew Jewel and Larry Smith of Plantation, Florida. Beatty as she was known to all her family and friends will be dearly missed and will always be remembered. The family will be sitting Shiva at 521 East St., Easthampton, Mass. CLOUTIER, Germain “Gerry“ J. R. - Born May 9th 1951 in Val d'Or PQ, died July 11th 2007 at North Bay General Hospital after a brave battle with cancer. Gerry, dear husband to Denyse (nee Laforest) and loving father of Marie-Josée (Gavin) and Louise. Survived by his brother Georges- Henri of Quebec City and brother-in-law Denis of North Bay, he will be fondly remembered by nieces Tracey, Laurence and Caroline. Feline friends Lacey, Mocha, and Betsy will sadly miss him. Gerry, a dedicated employee of Johnson Controls, was an avid fisherman who throughout his struggle worked relentlessly to complete his dream cottage. Memorial visitation at HILLSIDE FUNERAL SERVICES, 362 Airport Rd, on Saturday July 14th 2007 at 1:00 pm will be followed by a service to celebrate his life. As expressions of sympathy, family would greatly appreciate donations to the Canadian Cancer Society - North Bay Unit to thank all involved in Gerry's care, notably the volunteer drivers who facilitated his trips to Ottawa.

McCONNELL, Ernest Elwood - Passed away peacefully at St. Mary's of the Lake Hospital on Thursday, July 12, 2007, in his 78 year. Retired employee of the City of Kingston for 30 years. Predeceased by his parents Victor and Violet, brothers Jack, George and Frank, as well as 2 nephews. Ernie leaves behind a sister Audrey Johnston (Eric), 2 sisters in law Murrlene and Mary. VILLAMERE, Gerald “Jerry“ - of Sarnia, passed away at his home, with his family at his side, after a courageous 9 year battle with cancer, on Wednesday, July 11, 2007, at the age of 64 years. Beloved husband of Bernadette “Bernie“ (Evans) Villamere. Jerry was born in Renfrew and moved to Simcoe where they became Highschool sweethearts and were married for 43 years. LANDRY, Joan Rose (nee Quinlan) - In loving memory of Joan Landry, 71 years who passed away Saturday, July 7th, 2007 at St. Joseph's Health Centre. She was born in Sudbury and married Richard Landry in 1956 in Sudbury. A longtime and well liked Azilda resident. Joan was a devoted Roman Catholic who attended St. Alexander's Church and belonged to the parish CWL. She was an avid gardener who appreciated the beauty of flowers. Her extraordinary efforts were reflected in the well maintained and landscaped yard. Joan had other interests and passions in her life which included reading a good book or watching a good movie, collecting trains, friendship and advocacy for little children, affinity for dogs and cats, helping others by volunteering at the Soup Kitchen. Joan will be remembered as a kind, generous and gentle woman who was devoted to her loving family especially her precious grandchildren. She embodied the lessons of the love taught by Jesus as a Good Shepherd and Samaritan to all she met. Beloved wife of Richard Landry of Azilda. Loving mother of Keith Landry of Azilda, Laurie Landry of Mindemoya, and Sheree Leigh Landry of Azilda. MISTRY, Rusi - In loving memory of Rusi Mistry, 75 years. Born January 2nd, 1932, died July 5th, 2007. Rusi Mistry came to Sudbury in 1969. He worked at INCO from 1969 to 1993. He was a devoted Zoroastrian and a member of the Zoroastrian Society of Ontario. He was a great worker for the Sudbury Community and the East Indian Community in Sudbury and Toronto. PAYETTE, Allen Leonard - In loving memory of Allen Payette, 74 years of Sudbury who passed away Saturday, July 7, 2007 at his residence. Allen married Jacky (Lacelle) in 1987 in Sudbury. Born and raised in Campbell's Bay P.Q. He moved to Sudbury in 1973 from Hamilton. He was a self employed businessman retiring in 2002. Allen was always quick to help others. He was an active volunteer at Laurentian Hospital Site and he tended a large vegetable garden giving its produce to the needy. He enjoyed gardening and fishing. CREIGHTON, Norman Russell 1923 - 2007 Norman (Norm) Russell Creighton of Calgary, passed away on Wednesday, July 11, 2007 at the age of 83 years. Norm was born in Ponoka, AB in 1923. He spent his youth in Wetaskiwin, and then joined the Royal Canadian Navy, following the War, Norm had a career with Amoco Oil for thirty-six years and retired in 1985. He had a great passion for English bull dogs. Norm enjoyed playing hockey, loved golfing and had three holes-in-one at the Silver Springs Golf and Country Club where he was a member. Norm was married to Norene for thirty-six years. Norm is survived by his daughters and son-in-law, Jan and Tom Lockhart of Calgary, AB, Laurie and Bruce Monroe of California; son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Barbara Creighton of Red Deer, AB. SHINNIE, Peter Lewis BA (Oxon), LLD (Calgary) 1915 - 2007 Peter passed away peacefully on Monday, July 9, 2007 after a brief illness in his 93rd year. A distinguished and much honored Africanist archaeologist and educator, he made major contributions to the archaeology and history of Sudan and Ghana. In Sudan, introducing modern methods of fieldwork, he defined the civilization of Meroe and revealed the archaeology of Christian Nubia. In Ghana he carried out field research on the southern fringes of Islam and the origins of the Ashanti kingdom. He was successively head of the departments of archaeology at the Universities of Ghana, Khartoum and Calgary and responsible for the training of a generation of African scholars. His was a life of exemplary, passionate and humane commitment to Africa and Africans, and to his relatives and friends. Predeceased by his son Nicholas, he is survived by his wife Ama, children Caroline (Henderson) and Paul, six grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Friends and colleagues who so desire may donate to a scholarship in Peter's memory that will assist African students of archaeology. BENNION, Hazel Meryl (nee Osborne) December 16, 1915 - July 12, 2007 Hazel Bennion of Calgary passed away on Thursday, July 12, 2007 at the age of 91 years. A native Calgarian, Hazel lived her whole life in Calgary. She loved sewing, knitting and needlework. Her greatest passion was her roses. Hazel was Rose Queen in Calgary in the 1970's. She worked at the Bay until retirement. Hazel is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Joy and Alan Grant; grandchildren, Kimberlee Hickson (David) of Calgary, Steven Bennion (Julie), of North Dakota; daughter-in-law Brenda Bennion of High River; great-grandchildren, David and Zack Pomeroy of Edmonton, Chad, Chris, Colin Popp, and Hannah Hickson of Calgary, Cole and Sierra Bennion of North Dakota; sister Beryl Bruerton; two nieces, Sherile Riley and Betty St. Louis; as well as one great-niece Laura Bennion Auld. She was predeceased by her parents Ernie and Sarah Osborne, her husband Jack in 1975, son Larry in 2005, and her granddaughter Susan Grant Pomeroy in December 2006. LEAVITT, Jack Lee March 8, 1934 July 9, 2007 B. Ed (U. of Alberta), M. Sc (U. of Oregon), D. Ed. (U. of California, Berkeley) Today, I lost my best friend after fifty-one years of marriage and many more years of friendship. Jack was Professor Emeritus, marathon runner, ski instructor, little league coach, aspiring golfer, and mentor to many. He was an incredible father to Randy (Pam), Barry (Susana), Barbara (Glen) and Dana; a wonderful Grampo to Kristy, Shari, Jonathan, Campbell and Analee. He also leaves his sisters Lorna Cameron and Carol Williams (Bill). Jack did his last mile at home in Canmore, Alberta, in the mountains where we met and fell in love. He lived a full, active and inspiring life, and had a lot of fun along the way with family and friends. A celebration of a life well-lived will be held at a later date in Windsor, Ontario. PERTHUIS, Bernard Antonio 1921 - 2007 Bernie A. Perthuis passed away on Friday, July 6, 2007, a happy and contented man, with his family by his side. Bernie was born in Assiniboia, SK on September 5, 1921, brother to Elizabeth, Gaston, Richard and Marcel. His last few years were spent comfortably with the attentive and devoted care of staff of the Beverly Centre on ninetieth. Bernie is survived by his two daughters and sons-in-law, Carol and Ernie Rawlyck, Charlene and Alistair Sim; and his grandchildren, Cayley, Tyler, Jennifer, Brittney and Rachel. Bernie was predeceased by his grandson Trevor Haines and by his brother Gaston. At Bernie's request no Funeral Service will be held. ULRICH, Harold Harold Ulrich, beloved husband of Clara of Calgary, passed away peacefully at the Forest Grove Care Centre on July 11, 2007, at the age of 81 years. Harold will be lovingly remembered by his children, Rodney (Lori), Valerie (Buzz) Bradley, Darren (Laurie), Janice (John) Linderman, Jason (Yvonne), Todd (Tasha); twelve grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Elsie Currie as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. Harold was predeceased by his parents, one brother and four sisters. FOOSE, Russel Edward Russel Edward Foose passed on peacefully on July 11, 2007 at the High River Hospital after a valiant battle with Cancer. Russ was born April 7, 1931 in Stavely, Alberta. He was predeceased by his parents Bill and Emma Foose and his brothers Bob, Ted and Jim. He will be sorely missed by his surviving family members - wife and partner of forty-nine years Jackie, sons Joe and wife Lisa Foose, Bill Foose and his brother Raymond and wife Janice. He took great joy in his four grandchildren Jordyn, Jake, Reid and Brooke, who always put a smile on his face. CURRAN, SARAH - The death of Sarah Curran of Carleton-Kirk Lodge, widow of Carl Curran, occurred at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Wednesday, July 11, 2007. Mrs. Curran was born in Humbolt, Sask., a daughter of the late Peter and Jane (Guthrie) Cruickshank, and had resided the greater part of her life in Saint John, where she was been employed at Centracare until her retirement in 1978. She was predeceased by two sons, Philip and John McGovern; a daughter, Jean MacKenney; a brother, James Cruickshank; and six sisters, Margaret Cruickshank, Annie Cregan, Martha Wormell, Isabelle Clarke, Henrietta Bolon, and Edna Law. She is survived by a daughter, Ann Sheffroth of Saint John; a brother, William Cruickshank of Boston; a sister, Marie Gourley of Gagetown; a daughter-in-law, Shirley McGovern of Sackville, N.S.; seven grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
