Lourdes (Spiesz) McGirr (1910 - 2007) Obits - Friday, May 11, 2007 Updated @ 5:11:08 PM It is with profound sadness that our family announces that our beloved mother, cherished grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, sister and sister-in-law left this earth on Tuesday, May 1, 2007 at Rockwood Terrace, Durham, after a long life filled with great pleasure to begin a new journey. Her wonderfully kind, supportive and generous nature will be a void in all our lives but her spirit has touched us and is the light that will eventually reunite us. Deeply and lovingly missed by her children John Henry, Durene (Paul Butchart), Berkeley and David. Predeceased by her husbands Jack Spiesz and William McGirr. Cherished grandma of Andrew, Shandell, Kara Sue, Randy, Jack, Christopher, Kevin and Terri. Nana Lou to Babette, Ann and Carl. Remembered by great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Survived by caring sisters Leona Glenholme and Iva Sharpe and sisters-in-law Margaret Sibbald and Jennie McGirr. She was the daughter of the late John and Winnifred (Fagan) Sibbald. RANKIN, John Frances - (Feb. 4, 1942 - May 10, 2007) Peacefully at home after a courageous battle with cancer in his 66th year. Predeceased by his parents Jack and Pearl. MADORE, Marty, (nee Moore) 30 January, 1937 - 9 May, 2007 Peacefully at home surrounded by family and friends after a short but fierce battle with ALS. Marty has gone to Heaven to raise a little hell with her parents Martha and Albert, her beloved husband Ron (retired CAF and RCMP Bomb tech), and her dear sister Doris. Marty was the world's most amazing cook, owner, bartender, waitress, landlady and mighty bouncer of the Hintonburg Cafe in Ottawa. Former chef at Andrew Fleck Child Care Centre and Crawley Films. Marty is survived by her loving children Mandy (Yvan), Bob, Trina (Ken), Trent (Cyndee) and Rick (Billy the puppy); her dear siblings Evelyn, Eddie, Bobbie and Cheryl-Ann. She was cherished by her grandchildren James, Jeff, Jen, Jon, Amber, Melissa, Tim, Megan, Sarah and Erika, and her great-grandchildren Chaleb, Mackenzie, Lorne and Daniel, along with a vast extended family and many good friends. RETTIE, Frances Amelia With sadness the family of Frances Rettie announces her passing on Wednesday, May 9th, 2007, at Forest Hill in Kanata, at the age of 87. Beloved wife of the late Dr. Richard S. Rettie. Cherished mother of David (Trish) and loving "Grandma Fran" of Nicholas. Predeceased by her dear sister Eileen Hanway. She will be missed by her family, including cousin Jean Roberts of Toronto, sister-in-law Mary Henderson and niece Jan (Doug Robar) of Ottawa, and by her many friends. Fran was an active member of St. Columba Anglican Church of Ottawa for many years, where she served as President of the Altar Guild. Her interest in the art of Japanese flower arrangement led to her service as President of Ikebana International, Ottawa Centennial Chapter. Although beset by health problems for many years, Fran exhibited dignity and strength and was an inspiration to those who knew her. The family would like to express heartfelt thanks to everyone at Forest Hill for their loving care, support, and kindness. A memorial service will be held in June. VANASSE, Gwen (Nee Smith) 1925- 2007 - The family announces with great sorrow her death at Winbourne Park nursing home in Ajax, Ontario on February 21st, 2007 at the age of 81 years. Loving wife of the late Wilfrid Vanasse (1987). Dearest mother of Paul Vanasse (wife Lucy) , Barry Vanasse (wife Joan), Jocelyne Hancock (husband Dick), Carol-Ann Carson, Ray Vanasse (wife Dulce) all of Toronto, Shirley Osipenko (husband Randy) and Sharon Poulin (husband Ron) all of Timmins. Grandmother of 16 grandchildren and great grandmother of 18 great grandchildren. Sister of Vera Donnelly of Guelph and Maureen Errey of England. Gwen was born on September 28th, 1925 in England. She met her husband Wilfrid at a family owned pub in England prior to him leaving for the War. Her language being English and his being French, they communicated with hand gestures and expressions. Upon Wilfrid's return from the War, they re-connected and were married. Wilfrid and Gwen moved to Canada and lived in Montreal for a while. They returned to England for a short time and came back to Montreal. They moved to South Porcupine in the early 1950's where they stayed in the area since that time. A funeral service was held in Whitby, Ontario at Mount Lawn Gardens Memorial in February of 2007. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 12, 2007 in the CHAPEL of the MIRON- WILSON FUNERAL HOME, Timmins, Ontario, Fr. Mitch Sliwa will be officiating. KETTLE, Stephen (Steve) Michael - Steve was born in Halifax, NS, 18 April 1959. He moved to Sarnia as a young lad with his parents and brother, 1 July 1969. Steve fought a courageous battle with cancer and died with dignity in Palliative Care, Bluewater Health, Norman St., Sarnia. He is survived by his fiancée Audrey Ruttan and her family of Sarnia; his son Blair and daughter-in-law Tina; his son Paul and daughter-in law Danelle, and several grandchildren of London; his mother Florence Abrams Kettle, his brother Rob and sister-in-law Sara, nephews Zack and TJ, of Sarnia. Also two aunts and an uncle, several cousins and many friends at Nova. Predeceased by his father Robert “Bob“ Kettle, in July 1988. Steve graduated from Parkview Public School, St. Clair High School and Lambton College. He was employed by Nova Chemicals, Corunna for 28 years and was Past President and Life Member of the Royal Canadian Naval Association, Sarnia Branch. Emilien Bergeron died May 10, 2007 at the age of 92. He was born in Ville Marie, Quebec on May 19, 1914 to Emile and Georgianna Bergeron and came to Englehart in 1932 from Laverlochere, Quebec. Mr. Bergeron was a farmer all his life in Englehart and was involved in backhoe work and the trucking business for most of his life. Educated in Ville Marie he married Cecile Lauzon in Ste. Anne Des Plaines, Quebec May 3, 1947. He was a member of the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Englehart. Mr. Bergeron was predeceased by his parents; Emile and Georgianna; one daughter Lucille who died at two months of age; his brother Philippe and sisters Yvette (Lessard), Therese (Morrison) and Estelle (Bergeron). He is lovingly survived by his wife Cecile, children Lucie Bergeron and Albert (and Claudette); grandchildren Michelle, Valerie, David and great grandchild Kiana; sisters Jeannette Lauzon and Georgette Lacroix. The funeral was arranged by McDonald Funeral Home, Englehart with the funeral mass being celebrated at Holy Trinity Church in Englehart on May 12 at 2:30 p.m. Burial was at the Englehart Cemetery. McINTOSH, Joyce - After a courageous battle with cancer, passed peacefully on May 8, 2007 at the Welland County General Hospital at the age of 51. Best friend, highschool sweetheart and beloved wife to John C. McIntosh of 31 years. Loving and devoted mother of Carrie-Anne McIntosh (Jared Ruston), Shannon McIntosh, Andrew McIntosh and of 'Grand-pup' Frosty. Joyce will be sadly missed by her sisters Doris Adams (George), Dorval Stewart, Dorcas McCormick (Don), Blanche Visentin (Bruno), Jane Visentin (Bob) and her brothers Wally Savoie (Mary), Cecil Savoie and Earl Savoie. Survived by her brother and sisters- in-law Lynn Nokes (Geoff), Sandra Etches (Tom), Heather McIntosh (Andy Kwok), Tom McIntosh (Mikki) and Joanne Merriam (Alan). Special aunt to Tammy McCormick-Ferguson and to her many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews on both sides of the family. Joyce will be dearly missed by her grandmother Midge McIntosh. Predeceased by her mother Irene Savoie, her brother Walter, her sister Dorothy and her mother and father-in-law John G. McIntosh and Ruth McIntosh. Joyce devoted her life to charity, particularly with the Arthritis Society and Girl Guides. A dedicated mother, she stayed for many years at home to raise her family. In her spare time, she joined Club Frontenac Volleyball and played for 19 years. Whenever she attended a party or a public function, she added life to the event in a way she will always be remembered. Joyce loved life to its fullest and always enjoyed the time spent with her family and friends. She will be missed by all her knew her. Au Cénacle Saint-Pierre de Trois-Rivières (secteur Pointe-du-Lac), le 8 mai 2007, est décédé à l'âge de 90 ans, le Père Noël Bourque, religieux de la Congrégation de la Fraternité Sacerdotale. Il est né à Saint-Grégoire, comté de Nicolet, le 29 décembre 1916, fils de feu Azarde Bourque et de feu Albertine Thibodeau. Après avoir fait ses études classiques au Séminaire de Nicolet, il entra dans la Congrégation de la Fraternité Sacerdotale le 8 septembre 1939, à Pointe-du-Lac. Il fit son noviciat à cet endroit, et il prononça ses voeux le 8 septembre 1940. À la suite de ses études de philosophie et de théologie au scolasticat de Pointe-du-Lac et du Lac Supérieur, il fut ordonné prêtre le 16 mars 1946 en la chapelle du Cénacle Notre-Dame de la Paix, à Lac Supérieur, par son Excellence Mgr Joseph-Eugène Limoges. Il a par la suite exercé son ministère auprès des prêtres dans différentes maisons de la Congrégation en France (Paris), et au Québec (Pointe-du-Lac, Lac Supérieur, et en la paroisse Notre-Dame-Auxiliatrice de Verdun, Montréal). Il était retiré au Cénacle Saint-Pierre de Trois-Rivières (secteur Pointe-du-Lac), depuis novembre 2001. Les membres de la communauté accueilleront parents et ami(e)s au : Cénacle Saint-Pierre 12 270, rue Notre-Dame Ouest Trois-Rivières (secteur Pointe-du-Lac). Heures d'accueil : vendredi de 14 h à 16 h et de 19 h à 21 h, samedi, à partir de 10 h. Les funérailles auront lieu le samedi 12 mai, à 14 h, en la chapelle du Cénacle Saint-Pierre de Trois-Rivières (secteur Pointe-du-Lac). L'inhumation aura lieu au cimetière de la communauté. En plus de sa famille religieuse, il laisse dans le deuil sa soeur, Blanche, ainsi que plusieurs neveux et nièces.
