GENDRON, Maurice À Montréal, le 1er mai 2007, nous a quittés Maurice Gendron, un homme d'exception. Avec l'arrivée du printemps, qu'il aimait tant, c'est avec paix et sérénité qu'il a commencé son dernier voyage. Il aime et aimera toujours sa "douce”, Christiane Bélanger et sa fille Emilie. Il laisse aussi dans le deuil son frère Jacques, ses sœurs Denise et Murielle de même que ses beaux-frères et belles-sœurs, neveux et nièces et de nombreux amis qui lui ont apporté de beaux moments de joie. Animé d'un beau sens de l'humour et d'une grande bonté, Maurice nous manquera par sa présence bienveillante et chaleureuse. On garde le souvenir d'un homme au coeur joyeux qui jusqu'à la fin, a démontré un grand courage. Comme tu l'as dit lors de ton dernier combat contre la maladie: "Je peux partir sans regrets. CATTON, Gordon Edgar MB BS DMRT FRCPC Born in Essex, England on December 7, 1921. Died peacefully at home in Toronto on Monday, April 30, 2007. He is sadly missed by his wife Mary ("Nicky") to whom he was married for 59 years, his brother Michael, his six children Charles, Pam, Debbie, Jane, Andrew and Jim, 16 wonderful grandchildren, and his kind and dedicated caregiver Thang Guite. He was a modest, intensely private man with simple pleasures: reading, listening to jazz and big band music, shopping at Canadian Tire and the GEM Store, going to the cottage in Quebec. He was a skilled carpenter, plumber, electrician, stone mason and car mechanic. But most importantly to him, he was a good doctor. Gordon graduated in war-time England from the University of London School of Medicine in 1944. Following a short period of surgical training, he moved into what was then called therapeutic radiology and received his DMRT in 1951. This began a long and distinguished career in cancer care that spanned six decades. In 1953 he emigrated to Canada to take up a position at the newly established Ottawa Clinic of the Ontario Cancer Treatment and Research Foundation, and in this respect he was one of the founders of modern radiotherapy in Canada. In 1983 he was appointed Director of the Ottawa Clinic, a position he held until his retirement in 1988. Gordon was a tireless worker, and even after his official "retirement", he continued to see patients and to consult for the federal and provincial government on matters relating to the provision of radiation services in Canada for several more years. Gordon strongly believed in the value of modern radiotherapy for the treatment of cancer and was a major proponent of developing Radiation Oncology as a professional entity independent of Diagnostic Radiology, where it had traditionally resided. He was the last Radiation Oncologist to be Vice President of the Canadian Association of Radiologists, and he helped to oversee the transition of Canadian Radiation Oncologists into their own independent professional organization in 1988. He was constantly on the look-out for promising young medical graduates to recruit into the profession. His position as Associate Professor in the Faculty of Medicine, University of Ottawa afforded him many recruitment opportunities and he even managed to convince his two eldest children to follow him into academic Radiation Oncology. Gordon was physician, researcher, teacher, mentor, and cancer care leader for thousands of people over his lifetime. His contribution to the development of cancer care in Ontario was substantial, and he will be remembered fondly by former patients, students and colleagues alike. A private funeral service will be held in Toronto on Thursday, May 3, 2007. A memorial service to celebrate his life and work will be held in Ottawa, June 1, 2007. TANGUAY DUGAL, Camille 1912 - 2007 À l’hôpital de l’Enfant-Jésus, Québec, le 28 avril 2007, à l’âge de 94 ans, est décédée dame Camille Dugal, épouse de feu monsieur Gustave Tanguay. Originaire de Québec, madame a longuement habité Boischatel. Elle était la fille de feu dame Bibianne Arsenault et de feu monsieur Pierre-Wilfrid Dugal. Selon ses volontés, les funérailles seront célébrées en présence des cendres, le samedi 5 mai 2007 à midi trente en l’église de Boischatel, 20, Côte de l’Église, Boischatel, où la famille vous accueillera à compter de 11h30. Les cendres seront par la suite déposées auprès de son époux au cimetière de Boischatel. SHAW, Dorothy Irene - A resident of Wallaceburg, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 30, 2007 in her 92nd year. Dorothy is the daughter of the late John William & Jenny Irene (Schoales) Turner. Beloved wife of the late Joseph Shaw (1986). Loving mother & mother-in-law of Jane & Tom McGee of Wallaceburg, Deborah Shaw of Peterborough, Margaret & Robert Wickett of Elmvale, Joanne & Ralph Shaw of Guelph and Eleanor & Alvin Lozon of Owen Sound. Dear grandmother of Alan & Stephanie, Bryan & Angela, Karen & Greg, David & Helen, Robert & Darlene, Matthew & Kelley, Erin, Allison and the late Bradley Joseph. Great grandmother of Marshall, Alyssa, Brendan, Rebecca, Joseph, Ryan, Emily, Alex, and Adelle. Sister-in-law of Frances & sister of the late John Richard Turner of Toronto. Dorothy had owned Shaw Hardware with her husband Joe, was Wallaceburg's Citizen of the Year in 1994, awarded the 125 Anniversary of the Confederation of Canada Medal for Contribution to Community, inducted into the Wallaceburg Sports Hall of Fame as a female athlete, was a champion swimmer, rower, golfer, curler, bowler, baseball pitcher and card player. She was active in Knox Presbyterian Church and a tireless volunteer with the Canadian Cancer Society, Red Cross, Sydenham District Hospital Auxiliary, I.O.D.E and the Kinettes. Friends may call at the HAYCOCK- CAVANAGH FUNERAL HOME, 409 Nelson Street (at Elgin) in Wallaceburg from 7-9 PM on Wednesday and 2-4 & 7-9 PM on Thursday. SAUNDERS, T.V. Claude (Sandy) C.M. - In his 96th year, our dearly loved Dad has gone to join our mother, his beloved Florence. He leaves to treasure his memory, his loving children; Claude (Jean), Lois (Dick Royle), and Janice McCarthy. Predeceased by his dear grandson, Bill Royle. Beloved “Grandpaw “ of Thomas, and David (Ruth) Saunders, Lori (Alan Clark), Scott, and Paul McCarthy, and Linda Royle. Proud Great “Grandpaw” of Ryan, and Corey Royle, Andrew, and Sean Saunders, and Adam and Kristen Clark. Dearest brother in law of Lorne and Marion Papps. Brother of the late John, Amy, and Alf (Helen) Saunders. Fondly remembered by his many nieces and nephews. “Sandy” was a lifelong member of his beloved Leander Boat Club. He had the distinction of being Canada's oldest living Olympian, having represented Canada in the Heavy 8's Rowing Team in the Berlin Olympic Games of 1936, and again in Britain in 1948. He continued his Olympic involvement as Manager of the Canadian Rowing Team in Rome in 1960, then as Canada's first FISA official, officiating in 1964 in Tokyo, then in 1968 in Mexico. Claude had the honour of being the Chairman of the world's greatest Regatta, the Royal Canadian Henley Regatta, from 1958 until 1998. He was also one of the founding members of the Canadian Secondary Schools Rowing Association, as well as held numerous positions with the Ontario Rowing Association, Rowing Canada, and the Central Rowing Association. He was inducted into the Canadian Sports Hall of Fame, in 1982, and Hamilton's Gallery of Distinction in 1993. His life's love of Rowing was greatly rewarded in 1992, when he was invested with the Order of Canada. Claude retired from Stelco as Assistant Superintendent of the Blast Furnaces after 44 years of service, was a 60 year member of Tuscan Lodge, a 32nd Degree member of the Scottish Rite, and belonged to the Hamilton Shrine Club, and the Oriental Band. He was a long time member of St. Mary's Anglican Church. Visitation will be held at the Anglican Church of the Nativity (formerly St. Mary's Anglican Church), 1831 King Street East, Hamilton, on Thursday, May 3 from 11:30 a.m. until the time of the Funeral Service at 1:00 p.m. Private interment, Woodland Cemetery. Walker, Betty Louise (nee Moore) January 11, 1922 - April 28, 2007 WALKER, Betty Louise (nee Moore) died suddenly on Saturday April 28, in the loving embrace of her husband John. Betty was born in London Ontario on January 11, 1922, daughter of William and Ethel Moore and grew up in the company of her sisters Dorothy and June. She attended Sir Adam Beck High School and graduated from the University of Western Ontario in 1943, where she was a member of the varsity Basketball team. Betty met her lifelong partner John Hutton Walker at University and they were married on December 30, 1943 while John was a member of the RCAMC on orders of embarkation. Betty and John lived their vision of a full life together. Betty created a warm and loving home for their four children Janice, Paul, Will and Libby. She and Jack celebrated 63 years of wonderful marriage, and welcomed spouses and grandchildren into the family. Betty is remembered as a compassionate, intelligent and giving woman. Betty was known always for her elegance and grace. She was a loving wife, a complete mother, a caring grandmother, a devoted daughter, a wonderful sister and a faithful friend. She is survived by her husband Jack, daughters Janice (John: Walker, Blythe, Billy, John Jr.), Libby (Ted: Brooke, Laura, Evan) and sons Paul (Debra: Leah, Jordan, Mali) and Will (Shannon: Amanda, Kate, Corbin, Virginia, Casey), her sister Dorothy as well as many nieces and nephews. Dear brother of William and his wife Peggy Savage of Don Mills. Jack is also lovingly remembered by a dear friend Dorothy Russell, by his grandchildren Denise Juck (Chris), John, Tristan (Charline), Colleen, Jason, Nathan (Kelly), Jessica, Wayne, Kyle and Santanna Savage and Curtis, Trevor and Nicole Galbraith and also be his great grandchildren Corey and Aaron Juck and Logan Jack Savage. Jack was born in Windsor on June 2nd, 1923 to Willard and Velma (Armstrong) Savage. He was a retired Train Conductor with N.Y.C., P.C. and Con Rail; he had served with the Canadian Army from 1942 to 1946. He was a member of Talbot Lodge #546 A.F. & A.M., of Grace United Church, of the Brotherhood of Railway Trainmen and a member of the United Transportation Union for over sixty years. Resting at the WILLIAMS FUNERAL HOME, 45 Elgin St., St. Thomas where funeral services will be held Friday at 11:00 a.m. Cremation to follow in London. Visitation Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Masonic Service will be held Thursday evening at 6:30 p.m. Remembrances may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Diabetes Association. 10635569

HAWKINS, Beulah Barbara (nee Burnett) - Suddenly at Peterborough Regional Health Centre on Sunday, April 29 at the age of 72. Beloved wife of the late Douglas Hawkins. Loving mother of Barbara Clarke (Rick ) and nanny to Melissa and Ryan. Dear sister of Jean Dumoulin (Ray) and sister-in-law to Deb Burnett. Predeceased by her brother Stan Burnett. Cherished aunt to Debbie, Chris, Glenn and Sarah. Sadly missed by all great nieces and nephews. BRUNTON, Beverley Ann - Peacefully after a courageous battle on Tuesday, May 1, 2007 at the St. Catharines General Hospital with family at her side at the age of 69.
