BURCHAT, Martha Mary (nee Coulas) With heartfelt sorrow the family of Martha Burchat announce the sudden death of their beloved mother and grandmother, Saturday, April 28, 2007 at Pembroke Regional Hospital surrounded by her family. Predeceased by husband Aponary Burchat and infant daughter, Mary. Ever-loving mother to Anne, Betty (Steve Biesenthal), Marie (Charles Cheesman), Dori (Robert Emery), Richard (Laurie) Coulas and Michael (Lili) Davis-Burchat. And devoted Nana to Ted and Julia Biesenthal. Loving sister of Anna Mullin and Martin Coulas, and deceased brothers and sisters: Angela, Veronica Kubisheski, infant Helen, Katie Cunningham, Alex, Adam, Tom, Philip, Robert, Desmond and August. Mom had a strong faith, and expressed herself through domestic talents, gardening, music, literacy and handwork, especially quilting. She was also an avid volunteer throughout her long and vibrant life. Mom was devoted to her children and will be greatly missed and always remembered. HAYASHI, Giichiro. Giichiro "Butch" Hayashi passed away peacefully with his family by his side at the Foothills Hospital on Saturday, April 28, 2007 at the age of eighty-six years. RICCI, Nicola “Nick” - after a long fought battle, surrounded by his loving family at the Tabor Manor, St. Catharines on Sunday, April 29, 2007 at the age of 83. Beloved husband of 60 years to Michelina (Chiola) Ricci. Loving father of Joseph (the late Paula, 2005), Susan (Eugene) Slattery, John (Brenda) Ricci and the late Leonard Ricci (1960). McINTYRE, RALPH ANDREW The death of Ralph Andrew McIntyre of Fredericton occurred on April 29th, 2007 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital, Fredericton. Born in Barker's Point, NB, he was a son of the late John and Kathleen (Gillard) McIntyre. Mr. McIntyre was a veteran of the second World War, serving overseas with the RCAF. He was injured when his Lancaster bomber crashed in 1945, killing four of his crew mates. He also had worked for the N.B. Liquor Commission. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #4, Fredericton and a member of the N.B. Sports Hall of Fame. He was a member of numerous hockey teams, including the Fredericton Capitals maritime championship team of 1950-51. Mr. McIntyre was a gifted athlete in his younger days, winning numerous awards in hockey. He is survived by one brother, William McIntyre (Helen) of Truro, NS; nieces and nephews, Harold McIntyre, Janice McIntyre, Pam Steed, John McIntyre, Rhonda Grandy, Charles McIntyre, Donald Stohl and Kathleen Stohl; numerous great nieces and nephews. Besides his parents he was predeceased by two brothers, Harold McIntyre and Jackie McIntyre (child); two sisters, Kathleen McIntyre (child) and Marion Stohl. Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive, Fredericton, NB on Tuesday from 2 to 4 pm and 7 to 9 pm. The Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #4, Fredericton will hold a tribute service on Tuesday at 2:30pm. The Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, May 2, 2007 at 2 pm from York Funeral Home's T. JOHNSON, LEONARD "EARL" Passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 29, 2007 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in New Glasgow, N.S. on July 8, 1932, he was the son of the late Cecil and Marianne (Fraser) Johnson. Having proudly graduated, with a science degree, from Mount Allison University in 1954, Earl persued a career as a pharmaceutical salesman, retiring from Merck in 1992. An avid reader, he was also a member of the Westfield Golf and Country Club, and enjoyed bowling and badminton. He will be sadly missed by his wife, Joanne (McAdam); a son, Scott (Suzanne); a daughter, Karen (Danny) Stone; four grandchildren, Amy and Maggie Johnson, Kayla and Devin Stone; a brother, Jack Johnson; and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Earl was predeceased by his sister-in-law, Sally Johnson and his brother-in-law, Paul McAdam. Resting at Castle Funeral Homes, "Fallsview Chapel", 309 Lancaster Ave. (634-1701). WILSON, The Honourable Bertha In Ottawa at Rideau Place on-the-River on Saturday, April 28, 2007. She is survived by her husband the Rev. John Wilson to whom she has been married for sixty-one years; by her brother James C.S. Wernham (Rosemary), her nephews Christopher (Monique) and Richard (Julia West) all of Toronto. Bertha Wilson was born in Kirkcaldy, Scotland in 1923, obtained her M.A. Degree at the University of Aberdeen and emigrated to Canada in 1949. While her husband was stationed in Halifax as a Chaplain in the R.C.N., she took her law degree at Dalhousie University, graduating in 1957, and in the years immediately following was called to the Bars of Nova Scotia and Ontario. She practiced law in Toronto for seventeen years with the firm of Osler, Hoskin & Harcourt, and was a member of the Ontario and National Councils of the Canadian Bar Association (CBA). She served on the Boards of the Clarke Institute of Psychiatry, the Toronto School of Theology, the Canadian Centre for Philanthropy, the Westminster Institute for Ethics and Human Values, and was a Member of the Judicial Committee of the United Church of Canada. She chaired the CBA's Task Force on Women in the Legal Profession and was a member of the federal government's Royal Commission on Aboriginal Peoples. She was made a Judge of the Ontario Court of Appeal in 1975, and of the Supreme Court of Canada in 1982. She retired from the Court on January 4, 1991. She has, over the years, been the recipient of Honorary Degrees from Canadian Universities, from the Law Society of Upper Canada and from her alma mater the University of Aberdeen. She was elected a fellow of the Royal Society of Canada in 1991 and appointed a Companion of the Order of Canada in 1992. On Bertha's behalf, deep gratitude is expressed to Dr. Seely and the staff of the Ottawa General Hospital fifth floor west; and Dr. Matuk and the nurses of Rideau Place on-the-River for their outstanding professional and compassionate care. And to her personal care givers for their loving attendance and unstinting devotion during the last ten months, while she coped with the increasing shadow of Alzheimer's disease. Dorothy J. Godfrey Dorothy J. Godfrey 88, of the Veterans Health Center, and formerly of Peoples Park Tower, Moncton passed away at her residence on Friday April 27, 2007. Born in Moncton, she was the daughter of the late John and Ida (Sears) Godfrey. Dorothy was a Registered Nurse, having retired from the Moncton Hospital in 1982, and attended Highfield St. Baptist Church. She was a Graduate of the Moncton Hospital School of Nursing, member of the Moncton Hospital Nurses Alumna, Frank H. Tingley # 5 O.E.S., Moncton Legion Branch # 6, and Veteran of the 2nd World War, served overseas as a nursing sister with R.C. Army Medical Corp. Dorothy will be sadly missed by her sisters, Muriel Taylor, Moncton, Constance MacKenzie, Winnipeg, MB, Shirley Sonnenberg (Max), New Mexico, USA; brothers, Aubrey (Frances), Moncton, Garnet (Thelma), Bay Fortune, PE. Adeline Catherine (Sisk) DeGrace 1915 - 2007 BATHURST, NB - Mrs. Adeline Catherine (Sisk) DeGrace, 92, wife of the late Allie DeGrace, of Ste. Anne, which occurred at the Campbellton Regional Hospital in Campbellton, Monday, April 30th, 2007. Born in Pokeshaw on February 9th, 1915, she was the daughter of the late Daniel and the late Rebecca (Theriault) Sisk. Adeline was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was also a lifetime member of the Holy Family Council of the CWL. She is survived by two daughters, Mary (Retus) MacFadyen of Riverview and Becky (Hugh) Murray of Moncton; seven sons, Bobby (Barb) DeGrace of Naniamo, BC, Greg DeGrace, Kenny (Theresa) DeGrace, Jimmy (Patsy) DeGrace, Jody (Jane) DeGrace all of St. Anne, Brian (Gail) Degrace of Moncton, and Blair (Gail) of Plaster Rock. She is also survived by 18 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Allie 1974; also sons, Gary 1991, Danny 1994; sisters, Margaret, Clara, Doris; brothers, John, Edwin and Stanley; and several nieces and nephews. Visitations will be at Elhatton Funeral Home, St. George St., Bathurst on Wednesday, May 2nd, 2007 at 2 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated from Holy Family Church, St. Peter Avenue, Bathurst on Thursday May 3rd, 2007 at 11:00 am. FOSTER, DORIS E. The passing of Doris Ella Foster occurred at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital on Saturday, April 28, 2007 at the age of 88. Born in Fredericton on August 28, 1918, she was the daughter of the late Roy and Ella (Gray) Laurie and wife of the late Leonard (Len) E. Foster. Doris was a resident of the Hanwell Special Care Home, Hanwell, NB. She was a member of St. Paul's United Church and was employed as a Bookeeper with Barker Equipment Ltd. for 23 years and for 2 years prior to her retirement was Bookeeper for Wallace Equipment Ltd. Doris was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Besides her parents and her husband, a brother Roy Armstrong Laurie and sisters, Helen Harvey, Thelma Dean, Greta Mackie, Joyce (Betty) Endall, Jean Brown and Mildred Campbell all predeceased her. Survived by a sister-in-law, Mary Laurie of Woodstock, NB and a brother-in-law, Don Brown of Fredericton; numerous nieces and nephews. There will be no visitation. Family and friends are to gather at Bishop's Funeral Home Chapel, 540 Woodstock Road, Fredericton on Thursday, May 3, 2007 at 2:00 PM for a brief memorial service followed by a graveside committal service in the Fredericton Rural Cemetery Extension, Woodstock Road. Born in Tweed, Ontario, on March 23, 1912, Sister Mary is predeceased by her parents Joseph and Harriet LaJoie, her sister, Anna (Sister M. Jane Frances of the Sisters of Providence of St. Vincent de Paul), and her brother, Rev. Joseph Collins. Sister is survived by her sisters, Margaret Lane of Kingston, and Rose (Sister Rose Collins of the Sisters of Providence of St. Vincent de Paul) of Kingston, and her brother Michael (Geraldine) of Belleville, Ontario. Sister will be fondly remembered by her nieces and nephews, many relatives, friends, and by the members of her religious community. MACDONALD, Catherine (Kay), R.N. Veterans Affairs, F/L Nursing Sister RCAF Grace General Hospital 1920-2007 It is with deep regret that we announce the peaceful passing of Kay at the Civic Hospital early morning of April 29, 2007, at the age of 86. She was the daughter of the late Annie Gillis and Joseph MacDonald of P.E.I. and predeceased by her brother Frank, sister Joanne (Lemieux), her friend King McShane and Andre Charles (husband to Louise), and survived by her brother-in-law Andre Lemieux (Joanne). Beloved aunt to Louise, Charles (Suzanne), Francois (Marjory), Pierre (Geli), Adele, Anne (Arieh) and Conrad (Rita). Her 12 grand nieces and nephews, and her godson Evan (Christine, Lynn and Jennie) will fondly remembered her. The Ambleside One Condominium Community, the Our Lady of Fatima parish, her nursing sisters' association and her many friends will remember her as a caring nurse, a loyal friend, a distinguished lady and a generous member of the community. Following her graduation from Charlottetown Hospital's School of nursing, she joined the Department of Veterans' Affairs serving in Halifax and the Sunnybrook Hospital in Toronto. In 1957, she joined the Royal Canadian Air Force and following her training at Gunter Air Force Basc (Alabama), she became an acro-medical evacuation nurse. She served in Labrador, Cold Lake (Alberta), Vancouver, Grostenquin and Marville France, and Trenton. As a specialist of the "flying hospital wards", she wrote frequently about the training, techniques and procedures for successful air evacuations. In 1971, she joined the Grace General Hospital serving as the Discharge Planning Nurse until her retirement in 1985. She was an active supporter of many charities and City of Ottawa non-profit organizations. The family would like to thank most sincerely the medical (B5) and palliative teams of the Civic hospital for their caring and responsiveness to her many needs in the last two weeks of her life, as well as the staff of the Park Place Senior Suites where she spent the last months of her life. The family will receive friends at the Hulse, Playfair and McGarry Funeral Home, 150 Woodroffe Avenue on Sunday, May 6, 2007 from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral mass will be held at the Our Lady of Fatima, 152 Woodroffe Avenue (corner Byron) on Monday, May 7, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. In memory of Kay, donations to the charity of your choice would be appreciated.
