LAZARENKO, Sam - In loving memory of Sam Lazarenko, 86 years of Sudbury, who passed away Wednesday, April 25th, 2007 at the Sudbury Regional Hospital - St. Joseph's Health Center. He was born in Edmonton and married Ann (Srutwa) in 1943 in Montreal. A proud Canadian, Sam served in WWII with the RCAF as a wireless mechanic. He installed blind approach systems in RCAF aircraft. An industrious person he worked at INCO for 30 years as an electrician and also ran the Creighton Restaurant and the Creighton Boarding House with his wife Ann. He also built and ran Cri-Lar Trailer Park in Naughton. He was a member of the Lively and Lockerby Legions and the Ukrainian Seniors' Center. His life's passions were music, his camp at Webbwood, people and his loving family. Beloved husband of Ann (Srutwa) Lazarenko predeceased 1994. Loving father of Chris (wife Pam Robbins) and Lorraine (husband Douglas Santala). Cherished grandfather of James, Jenna, Kai and Kierann. Dear brother of Sarge (wife Olivia), Helen (husband Matt) and Jenny (husband Peter). Dear brother-in-law to Charlie and Nellie Petryshen; Art and Kay McLellan; Minnie Carver; Frank and Rose Swiddle; and Dorothy Swiddle. Sadly missed by many nieces and nephews. Special friend to Louise Yanchuk predeceased 2005 and Marg Yonick of Sudbury. Funeral Visitation at the LOUGHEED FUNERAL HOME, 252 Regent St. at Hazel St. Sunday, April 29th, 2007 2 to 4:30 p.m. with a reception to follow. OBITUARY RICHARD PETER SHATILLA 1939-2007 Richard passed away peacefully on April 27, 2007 surrounded by his loving family. Beloved husband of Janet Webster, devoted father of Peter and Bryan, dearest brother of Steven (Agnes), Frances (Alex Kalil) and Susan. He will be sadly missed by his brother-in-law David Webster (Andree), his step-children Tracey (Mark), Peter and Michael (Denise), his grandchildren and his nephews and nieces. Richard's life is characterized by one of love, dedication, concern and service. These values were instilled in him by his late parents, Peter and Cecile Shatilla, and were manifested by his devotion to family and sensitivity to the needs of the greater community. Those who knew him will never forget his sense of humour and the sparkle in his eyes as he greeted you, you were his favourite cousin, his favourite nephew, his favourite friend. He made everyone feel special. He was a mentor to many, both in business and community service. He was a born leader. Service was a part of Richard's life, service to his Church, to his community at large and to the special needs educational institutions which touched him personally. Among the organisations he served as President and in many other capacities are the Parish Council of St. Nicholas Antiochian Orthodox Church, the Lebanese Syrian Canadian Association, the Oldtimers Hockey League of the Town of Mount Royal and the St. Nicholas Men's Club. CARROLL, Emma Bernadine "Bernie" (nee Turgeon). We are sad to announce the passing of Bernie at the age of ninety-five, on April 22, 2007. Daughter of Rose Falkner and George Turgeon. She was born in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario moving to Montreal where she attended school and worked at the Montreal Forum before marrying in Toronto. She was the bride of W. Eric Carroll who passed away in 1977 and is now survived by her sons Warren (Donna) and Wayne. Grandchildren Erin and Eric, and great-granddaughter Jocelyn as well as her nephews Mark and Dane Charbonneau. The family wishes to thank the medical team headed by Dr. Robert Wu and the nurses of the Toronto General Hospital, East Wing for their exemplary care. McALPINE, William. On March 30, 2007 two days short of his eighty-sixth birthday, Bill left this plane to join his Bonnie Lass Sheila where they will be forever "Roaming in the Gloaming". Although his leaving has caused pain and sorrow, his going has eased his broken heart. He leaves behind many dear and loyal friends at the Royal Canadian Legion 171, his stepdaughter Judith Dendy and her companion Clifford Hogan. CARY, Roy - “Safe in the arms of Jesus”. Suddenly at Bluewater Health – Mitton Street Site, Sarnia on Thursday, April 26, 2007 Roy Clayton Cary, born November 2, 1933, Corunna, in his 74th year. Survived by sisters Marion Moore and Allen, Dorothy Vail and George, Shirley Titus and Jack, Patricia Neilson and Ken and brother Floyd Cary. Special brother of Mary Neilson and Patricia Lang. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents Albert and Mary, brothers Urban, Howard and Keith, sisters June and Linda, brother- in-law Bud O'Hara and sisters-in-law Shirley Cary and Lena Cary. Roy worked at Wawanosh Enterprises from March 1979 until his retirement in November 2001. He was a member of the Friendship Club and was a happy guy who was a joy to all who knew him. He was loved by many and will be missed. Our lives are blessed because of this special one who always laughed. VAUGHAN, Douglas Patrick Gregory (Capt.-Retd.) 1946-2007 Douglas Patrick Gregory Vaughan passed away peacefully in Ottawa on Thursday, April 26, 2007. Since last year he has valiantly fought cancer. He will be greatly missed by his wife of 27 years, Susan, and is also survived by his sister, Patricia (Ed Lake) of Timmins. After graduating from Western University as a Chemical Engineer, Doug began his career in the Air Force. He retired in 2001. He was an avid golfer and has been a member of Hylands Golf Club for over 30 years. Doug was a Curler; x-country skied and loved to follow all the major sports events on television. Another joy he had was planning holiday cruises. Visitation will be held at McEvoy-Shields Funeral Home, 1411 Hunt Club Road at Albion Road, from 4-7 p.m. on Sunday. Rozis (Rose's Ukrainian birth name) will be missed by her sisters with whom she shared a long and special bond, Marie (Neil) Kirkpatrick, Fort St. John, BC, Lillian (Links) Leiner, Moncton, NB, and Annabel (Merle) Smith, Kelowna, BC; and by many nieces, nephews and close friends. While her children were growing up, Rose was very involved with Mountain View United Church where she was an active participant in Cub and Scout Mothers, United Church Women and the Church Nursery. She will be remembered for her many hours of volunteer work with the Blood Donor Clinic and at the Moncton Hospital, and for her years with Toastmistress, the Legion Women's Auxiliary, various bowling leagues, Meals on Wheels and the Codiac Chords. Rose founded Moncton's Ukranian Club and acted as President for many years. She was also co-founder and a past president of the Multicultural Association of the Greater Moncton Area. She was the life and heart of many of the work related Conventions that she and Doug attended over the years. In retirement, they enjoyed travel and winters in Arizona. Rose loved to dance and she loved a good party. Along with Doug, she entertained a host of guests at many gatherings over the years at their various homes in Caissie Cape, NB. Lobster and clam chowder were Doug's specialty and Rose dished out the potato salad and coleslaw. She had a smile and a welcome for everyone. We will miss her dearly. We wish her well on her journey. A Celebration of Rose's Life will be held on Saturday, May 5, 2007 at 11:00am from Garden View Reception Room at Fairhaven Funeral Home, 1177 Salisbury Road, Moncton, NB. A Private Family Graveside Service will be held at Fairhaven Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
