PULLEN, Claire (nee Bremner) It is with great sadness that our family announces the death of our Dear "Mummie". Claire passed away at the Queensway Carleton Hospital on Monday April 9, 2007. Claire is predeceased by her beloved husband Earl. Loving Mother of Linda and husband Lloyd Medynski, Kathryn and late husband Wendell Speers. EDNA I. JOYNT HINES June 25, 1924 - April 15, 1999 When great trees fall, rocks on distant hills shudder, lions hunker down in tall grasses, and even elephants lumber after safety. When great trees fall in forests, small things recoil into silence, their senses eroded beyond fear. When great souls die, the air around us becomes light, rare, sterile. We breathe briefly, our eyes, briefly see with a hurtful clarity. Our memory, suddenly sharpened, examines, gnaws on kind words unsaid, promised walks never taken. FRASER, Douglas of Bayfield Manor, Kemptville former long-time resident of Prescott Passed away suddenly but peacefully in his sleep at the Montfort Hospital on Wednesday, April 11, 2007 at the age of 88. He will forever be cherished in our memories with his love of family and music. Dad is now spending time with his loving wife, Barbara, who passed away in October 2006. He leaves behind his treasured daughters Susan Lock of Courtenay, B.C. (Farley of Royston B.C.), Patti Fair (David) of Ottawa, Vicki Fraser-MacDougall (Alex) of Hamilton, Heather Lance (Bob) of Kemptville and "Just Beth" Garswood of Brockville. FLETCHER, Dr. John Howard (August 26, 1950 - April 9, 2007) It is with much sadness that we inform you of the sudden death of Dr. John Fletcher. John passed away peacefully in his home on April 9, 2007. John is survived by his brother Edward of Ottawa and his much loved Aunt Peggy (Walker) in Sheperton, England as well as Mark Fletcher and family in Boston Lincs, England. John was passionate about England, his birth country, and all his family and friends residing there. John leaves his long-time friend and partner of many years, Shelagh Davies-Lyons (Edmond); daughter Shari Kazen and son Christopher Kazen (Kathleen). Shari's children Brianna and Meesha; and Chris' children Makayla and Jordan will deeply miss the man they called Papa. His many friends and acquaintances will deeply miss spending time with John discussing everything from the state of the world to the Sens. ERDMAN, Kathryn (Kathy) Helen nee Cover Went home to be with her Lord at her home in Spencerville after a short battle with cancer on April 9, 2007. Dear wife of Peter and loving mother of Michael. Lovingly remembered by stepmother Joyce Hudson (Cover) and siblings Verna (Rick), York, Dan (Alice) Hamilton, Fred (Linda) of Drumbo and Jim (Arlene) of Ottawa, Gary (Cindy) of Flesherton. Also nieces and nephews: David, Gayle, Fred, Anna, Heather, Matthew, Melanie, Kaylin and Jacob. Kathy worked for many years at Transport Canada leaving many friends there. CLAYTON, Maurice Julian 1922-2007 On Monday, April 9, 2007 in Ottawa. Maurice will be greatly missed by his beloved wife Ann and family Christopher, Helen, Ryan and Laurel; Stephen and Alison; Lucy, Gary and Maxwell. A WWII veteran and War Amp, Maurice served in the Glider Pilot Regiment, British Army Air Corps; he took part in D-Day and the battle of Arnhem where he was wounded and became a prisoner of war. After the war Maurice and his young family emigrated to Canada setting up his architectural practice in Victoria, B.C. The family moved to Ottawa in 1958, Maurice joining C.M.H.C. as a Senior Architect where he designed several innovative public housing projects and wrote seminal textbooks on Housing for the Handicapped and Housing for the Aged. He was particularly proud of his book Canadian Housing in Wood; a 1,000 Year History of Wood Construction. Maurice was a Director of the Ottawa Ski Club, member of the Ottawa Calligraphy Society, member of the Ottawa Weavers Guild, President of the Volunteer Association, Rehab Centre, and Editor of its Journal. A memorial service will be held at the Central Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, 315 McLeod Street, Ottawa on Thursday, May 3rd, 2007 at 5 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the War Amps of Canada, 2827 Riverside Dr., Ottawa, K1V 0C4. RUTKOWSKY, Ruby Marian Bertha Retired AO Labour Canada On Thursday, April 12, 2007 in her 92nd year. Ruby was born October 30, 1915 to the late Charles Albert Rutkowsky and Emma Louise (Maves) Rutkowsky. Predeceased by brothers George (Marion), William (May), Herbert (Alma), and Wilfred (Jean). Sisters Hattie Milk (Fred), Rose Mayer (Gus), Minna Mallonix (Jack), Mildred Russell (Red) and Pearl Durham (John). Ruby was employed at DND (RCAF) 1940-1947, and Labour Canada 1947-1977. She was Secretary-Treasurer of Labour Recreation Association and Social Convenor. She was a Pioneer Member of the R.A. Centre. She was a volunteer at the Red Triangle entertaining the troops, 1940's. She was very active in Brownies and Girl Guides in her youth, and in her church, St. Luke Lutheran where she belonged to Walther League, Ladies Aid, Altar Guild, finance committee and St. Luke Drama Group. She also taught Sunday School for 39 years. Ruby was very active in Camp Lauren and Camp Alle-Lu where she served on the Board of Directors. While living in Florida, she volunteered at Good Samaritan Lutheran Home for Seniors and at the Sunshine Guild at Holy Cross Lutheran Church. Missions were another of her projects. She was the last surviving founder of Lutheran Women's Missionary League at St. Luke (May 1950) and was elected to International L.W.M.L. as Second Vice President (1965-69) and to the Nominating Committee (1978-79). She has held numerous positions from President down in Laurentian Districts, Capital Zone and St. Luke Church, where she was Vice-President and area representative of Lutheran Chinese self-help project Kowloon, 1960's. Ruby was involved musically all her life. For 74 years, she was a member of the St. Luke Choir. While in Florida she belonged to the Daytona Beach Choral Society, Daytona Beach Ecumenical Choir and Holy Cross Lutheran Church Choir and Bell Choir. She was a life member of Orpheus Musical Theatre where she performed in 20 productions from 1946-1952. She also sang in many massed choirs in Canada and United States. She leaves to mourn nephews Harold Russell (Chris), David Ruthowsky (Wendy) and John Ruthowsky (Sharan), great and great great nieces and nephews as well as cousins and friends in Canada, United States and England. Friends are invited to visit at the Central Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, 315 McLeod Street on Monday, April 16 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. A Celebration of Ruby's life will be held at St. Luke Lutheran Church, 326 MacKay Street at Noel Street on Tuesday, April 17 at 1 pm with the Rev. Dr. Bryan King officiating. FRANK, Doris. The family of Doris Frank is saddened to announce her death on April 11, 2007. She died of natural causes at the age of eighty-eight. Doris was born in the Ukraine, near Kiev, in 1918. With the rest of her immediate family, she fled the pogroms and settled in Montreal in 1921. Doris will be missed by her children Daniel Frank and Janet Gyatso, their respective spouses, Doris Clerc and Charles Hallisey, her grandchildren Johanna, Jeremy, Michael, and Zoey Frank, as well as Sean, Stephen and Gina Hallisey, and by her great-grandchildren Ben, Jillian and Allison Troth. Doris is also survived by Gilbert's sister Selma Frank of Vineyard Haven, and the following nieces and nephews who are children of her late sisters Fannie Silverman and Ray Yellin: Peretz, Ozzie, and Jerry Silverman, and Esther Wynn, Sorel Cohen, and Dorothy Yellin. OBITUARY GORDON ALEXANDER LONG Audrey-M. Olmsted of Nun's Island, Quebec, and her brother the Reverend Canon George A. Long of St-Anne-de-Bellevue, PQ, regret to announce the death of their dearly loved brother Gordon on Thursday, April 12, 2007 after a three month battle with brain cancer. Gord passed away at the Queen Elizabeth II Infirmary in Halifax, Nova Scotia. He leaves to mourn his beloved wife and best friend of 38 years Anne Marie Long (nee Fougere) and their cherished children Russell (Monique) of Calgary, A.B. and Nina of Antigonish, Nova Scotia. Gord is also survived by his 4 sons and their families from his first marriage, Stephen of Chiliwack, B.C., William of Montana, U.S.A., David of Alberta and Michael of Fernie, B.C. Gord was a devoted dad to his sons and a very proud, loving grandpa to his 6 grandchildren. Also surviving are the members of Gord's extended families, the Fougeres of Ontario and Nova Scotia, and the William Robinson's of Oshawa, Ontario, all of whom will miss Gord's love and his joie-de-vivre. Gord, who was born and educated in Montreal, always thought of N.D.G. as "home". A celebration of his life will be held at his home church of St. Columba in June 2007 in conjunction with the 100th anniversary of the church. Gord was predeceased by his loving parents Miriam Stephens and William Long, his dear elder sister Gwendolyn N. Long, his dear sister-in-law A.E. Winnifred Long (wife of Canon George Long), his dear friends and brothers-in-law Harold D. Olmsted and Saville H. Moon and many other relatives and friends. Gord's only remaining cousins Wilma Miller (the late Robert) of Barrie, Ont, and Shirley Epp (Dr. Edward) of Nobscott, Mass. U.S.A. will remember him fondly. Cremation has taken place. MUNRO, John Andrew (1938 - 2007) Died peacefully in his sleep on April 7, 2007, after a year-long struggle with cancer. He is survived by his loving wife, Joan, his dear daughter, Lauren, 4 proud sons, Michael (Tamara), Victor, John-Angus (Linda) and Gordon. Much missed son, Shaun predeceased him in 1994. 4 splendid grandchildren, Erin, Scott, Aria and Angus complete John's immediate family. His extended family centered in Thunder Bay includes an uncle, Fred Wirta, 2 aunts, Ruth Dunnett and Edith Lazaruk, and a multitude of cousins. Variously in his career, John had been a member of the Immigration Appeal Division of Canada's Immigration and Refugee Board, Associate Professor and Maclean Hunter Chair of Non-Fiction Writing at the University of British Columbia, Senior Intergovernmental Affairs Officer with the Government of Saskatchewan, Founding Director of the University of Saskatchewan's Rt. Hon. John G. Diefenbaker Centre and Resident Historian with Canada's Department of External Affairs. Raised in Fort William, Ontario, and a graduate of the University of British Columbia, John was the author/editor of 17 books, including the memoirs of Canadian Prime Ministers Diefenbaker and Pearson. Elle était la fille de feu Léandre Lachapelle et de feu Exilda Brault. Elle fut prédécédée par son époux Hector; sa fille Gisèle et tous ses frères et sœurs. Elle laisse dans le deuil ses deux filles: Thérèse et Monique (Yves Côté); son fils Michel; sa petite-fille Nathalie ainsi que ses deux arrière-petits-enfants: Jonathan et Cassandra. Le service religieux aura lieu en présence des cendres le samedi 21 avril 2007 à 11h, à l'église St-Joseph d'Orléans, 2757 boul. St-Joseph, Orléans.
