McRAE, Arleen Peacefully at the Pembroke Regional Hospital with her family and friend by her side on Wednesday morning February 14, 2007 in her 66th year. Arleen McRae (nee Lowe) of Petawawa, beloved mother of Randy McRae (Yvon Dugas), of Ottawa, Kelly Tachynsky (Doug) of Braeside and Tracey Stewart (Bradley) of Arnprior. PETTIGREW, Muriel Orna (nee Waite) 1936 - 2007 Peacefully in Renfrew hospital February 12, 2007, at the age of 70. Beloved wife of Harry Pettigrew. Daughter of the late Orin Waite and Muriel (Davidson). Cherished mother of Andrew (Nancy Vaughan). Loving and proud grandmother of Dakota and Jayden Pettigrew. Predeceased by brother Reid Waite. Dear sister of the late Dorles (Steenson). Survived by Darlene Cotnam and best friend of Sheila (Dingley) and cherished by countless other family and friends. Orna was a very kind and giving person. She grew up in Forrester Falls and worked as an RNA for many years helping those who needed it. In accordance with Orna's wishes there will be no visitation. COATES, NETTIE J. - Nettie J. Coates of Corn Hill, passed away Wednesday, February 14, 2007 at the Sussex Hospital, at the age of 81. Born at Creek Road, Kings County, she was the daughter of the late Frederick and Louise (Landry) Forsythe. She is survived by her sons, Blair (Lois), Lloyd (Darlene), Delbert (Laura Lee), Russell (Marilyn) all of Corn Hill; sisters, Iva MacLeod, Cora Clayton both of Quispamsis; brothers, Roy of St. George, Sterling of Kingston Penninsula; 12 grandchildren, four great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. CLARK, DOROTHY - 93 of Halifax, passed away Monday, February 12th, 2007, at the QEII Halifax Infirmary. Born in St. Martins, NB, she was a daughter of the late Wendell B. Bentley and Kathleen Gillmor. She attended St. Martins School, New Brunswick Teacher's College, Dalhousie University where she received her B.A. and Mount Allison University graduating with a secretarial certificate. She worked as a secretary at Timothy Eaton's in Moncton; Bridgetown Regional High School and Mount Allison Academy. She also taught (in a one room school) in Upperton, NB, Mount Allison Academy and Commercial College; Hants North Rural High School, Kennetcook, NS, Hants East Rural High School, Milford, NS and Bridgetown Regional High School. She was a member of the United Church of Canada and active in the United Church Women, where she lived. Dorothy enjoyed tennis, bridge, golf, stamp collecting and photography. She and her husband, Robert C. Clark taught together at the high schools mentioned above. Upon retirement, they lived in Halifax and attended St. Andrew's United Church. He predeceased her in 1989. She leaves to mourn her cousin, Anne (Auriel) Dougan and her family; several other cousins; and a foster son, Jim Jennex and his family. A memorial service will be held at 2pm Saturday, February 17th, 2007 in J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 2666 Windsor St. Reception to follow in Snow's Family Reception Lounge. Family flowers only. WANDA E. CROTTY FREEPORT - Wanda E. Crotty died Wednesday, February 7, at Hawthorne House in Freeport, surrounded by loving members of her family. Born Wanda E. Scovil in Rothesay, New Brunswick in 1912 and after graduating from the University of New Brunswick in Fredericton she married journalist Donald Edward Swift. Married at the height of the depression, the couple traveled the Maritime Provinces and the Northeastern United States looking for work in the field of Journalism, but without success. This marriage was remarkable and the two were completely devoted. The Swifts returned to New Brunswick where Donald succeeded as a journalist and the family grew to include two boys and three girls. In 1949, changing their name to Crotty, the family moved to Boston and sought treatment at the Boston Children's Hospital for Donald, Jr. who suffered a congenital heart condition. But, he died in 1951 at the age of 13. His father died five years later at the age of 44. With the death of her husband, Wanda began what turned out to be an amazing career as a Nanny, creating a meaningful and rewarding life raising the children of the Spang, Crocker and Plum families in the Boston area until her retirement in 1999. Her kindness, humor and solid values enhanced the up-bringing of her charges and fostered enduring and rewarding relationships with seven children from these families in addition to those with her own children. Wanda's "extended family" and their parents remained in touch with her until she passed away. Wanda became a joy and a great source of support to them and was rewarded with the reciprocal warmth and kindness that such relationships can engender when they are faithfully and generously brought to life by caring people. Wanda was predeceased by her husband, Donald, and her son, Donald, and by her daughters, Ingrid Peterson in 1984 and Wanda Touchie in 2006. She is survived by a daughter, Margaret Taragowski of Arlington, Texas, a son, Thomas Crotty, of Freeport, Maine, a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren in Canada and the United States. Plans are underway to hold a memorial celebration in Maine on May 20. MONTAGUE, MARY LYNN - with family and friends at her side, and with strong and enduring faith, Mary Lynn Montague passed peacefully into the arms of God on Wednesday, February 14, 2007, at the Saint John Regional Hospital after a heroic struggle with cancer. Lynn was the eldest daughter of the late Albert "Bunker" and Marie (McGillicuddy) Montague and was a life long resident of Fairville. Lynn was a graduate of St. Vincent's High School, St. Francis Xavier University, and the University of New Brunswick. She was employed with School District #8, teaching 25 years at St. John the Baptist and King Edward School. Lynn was an active member of her beloved Church of St. Rose of Lima, having served on the parish council, as a lay reader, and as a catechism teacher. Lynn was similarly active in numerous community and social organizations. Lynn's passion and focus was her family. She was predeceased by her youngest sister, Debbie; and her first niece, Jennifer Lawton. Lynn will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by her surviving family that includes her brother, Paul of Saint John; and her three sisters, Judy Lawton (John), Jane Peters (Robert), and Kathy Brown (Kevin), all of Saint John; as well as her "adopted" sister, Meridith Allaby. Lynn is also survived by her nine nephews and nieces to whom she was so special: Kathy Belanger (Stephane) and Michael Peters, Lori and Jeff Lawton; Patrick, Timothy, and Paul Montague; and Christopher and Andrew Brown. MITTON, HESTER 1911 – 2007 SACKVILLE With sadness, after a brief illness, the family of Hester Mitton announces her death on Tuesday, February 13, 2007 at Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital in Fredericton. She was ninety-five years old. Hester was born in Rockport, NB in 1911, the eldest daughter of the late John and Mildred (Ward) Delesdernier. Hester was devoted to her family, and she cherished her two sons, Leaman Ellsworth (Verna) of Cambridge Narrows and Allan Harold (Anne) of Fredericton. She took great joy in the company of her grandchildren, Gregory, Tracey, Janet and Jillian. She never forgot their birthdays nor the birthdays of her nine great grandchildren. She is survived by one sister, Beulah MacDonald of Sackville and one brother Rupert of Rockport, as well as several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by brothers, Douglas and Harold (Jack) as well as sisters, Maria (Johnson) and Mildren (Spence). She was a past member of the Britania Chapter # 18 Order of the Eastern Star and a past member of Portland United Church in Saint John, NB. Hester embraced the world around her. She loved to travel especially in her motor van. Rockport, and the history of it's people, provided her with many interesting stories to share with friends and family. In earlier years, she exemplified a remarkable work ethic in the family businesses. Hester Mitton will be remembered as an independent woman and a devoted mother whose gentle spirit will remain through special memories. CONNELL, PHILIP F. - The death of Philip Frederick Connell, DFM of Saint John, husband of Mary Kathleen (Daley) Connell, occurred on Sunday, February 11, 2007 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Saint John on July 7, 1923, he was the son of the late George and Jean (Alexander) Connell. Mr. Connell was a veteran of World War II, serving with the Bomber Command 83 Squadron of the R.C.A.F. He was a founding member of the Path Finder Force in 1942 and was wounded in action in 1943. He received the Distinguished Flying Medal (DFM) from King George VI at Buckingham Palace on February 29, 1944. In 1945 Philip joined F.J. Brennan Co. Ltd. Investment Finance, from where he began his long career as an Investment banker working with Nesbitt Thompson in various capacities, retiring as President in 1995 from McDermid Miller McDermid. Mr. Connell was National President of the R.C.A.F. LISTER, JOHN KERMIT - It is with great sadness the family announces the passing of John (Jack) Kermit Lister after a long and courageous battle with cancer on December 26, 2006 at the residence of his special friends, Dr. and Mrs. Christopher Wake of Carlton, Tasmania, Australia. He was born October 18, 1935 to the late John R. and Isie (Henderson) Lister in Listerville, Carleton Co., N.B. Besides his parents he was predeceased by his step-father Cleveland Miller, his former wife Charlotte (Boring), brothers-in-law Gerald P. Brazier, George L. Stringham, nephew Anthony Brazier and niece Sharon Brazier. He leaves to mourn son John K. Lister (Chris) and granddaughter Evniki Lister of Placentia, California, his sisters Shirley Brazier of Wetaskiwin, Alberta and Patricia Stringham of Enfield, Conn. USA, nieces Robin (Darren) Feldberg of Wetaskiwin, Lori (Richard) Friedrichs, grand-nephews Matthew, Jonathan, David and grand-niece Natasha Friedrichs all of Kingman, Alberta, also several cousins. Jack graduated from Andover High School in 1954 and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. In 1968 he emigrated to Australia where he was employed by Australia Telecom. After retirement he began a second career and became known in the Darwin area as Trader Jack. A service and cremation has taken place in Hobart, Tasmania. Felix Gallant 1916-2007 Felix Gallant, 91, of Veterans' Health Center, Moncton NB, and formerly of Dieppe, NB and Shediac, NB, passed away on Tuesday, February 13th, 2007 at his residence. Born in Summerside, PE, he was the son of the late Joseph and the late Marie Pélagie(née: Gallant) Gallant. Mr. Gallant retired as a tinsmith having worked with several local companies. Alice Louise Hicks 1914 - 2007 SACKVILLE, NB - Alice Louise Hicks of Sackville passed away at the Sackville Memorial Hospital on Tuesday, February 13, 2007. Born in Sackville, Alice was the daughter of the late Herbert and Addie (Estabrooks) Anderson. Alice lived her life in Sackville, working at the Sackville Memorial Hospital and at Trenholm's Ladies Wear. She loved her family and enjoyed time at her cottage at Upper Cape. She was an avid gardener and her hands were always busy knitting and sewing. She was a member of the Women's Missionary Society. Alice Miriam Milton 1916 - 2007 Alice Miriam Milton, 90, of McNair Manor, Riverview , formerly of Hillsborough passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 13th, 2007 at the nursing home with her family by her side. Alice was born in Albert Mines, NB on July 19th, 1916 the daughter of the late Fred and Myrtle (Woodworth) Steeves. She was a member of the Albert Mines Baptist Church. She taught school for several years and then worked at # 5 Supply Depot for 35 years before retiring. Alice was a small lady but she had a huge heart. She loved spending time with her family and friends. She had no children of her own, but was very close to her nieces and nephews. She was a very special lady who will never be forgotten. She will be deeply missed by her niece, Lorna Simpson (Donn) of Hillsborough with whom Alice resided for several years; nephew, Gene Milton (Donna) of Hackittstown, NJ, USA; and sister-in-law, Rose Steeves of Hillsborough. She will also be missed by several great nieces and great nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Allison Milton (1987); brother, Curtis Steeves (1995); sister, Treva Milton (Lewis) (2002); and by a nephew, Garry Milton. Donald Francis Mulford 1926 - 2007 Donald F. Mulford, of Forest Dale Nursing Home, Riverside Albert, NB passed away at his residence on Tuesday, February 13, 2007 at the age of 80 years. Born in East Saint John, NB, he was a son of the late Arthur and Lila (White) Burditt. Albert was an adherent of the United Church of Canada. He attended high school in Saint John, NB, Acadia University where he received his B.Sc. and McGill University in 1946 where he received his B. Eng. (Mechanical). He worked 40 years in Canadian and United States Pulp and Paper Industry having worked for Anglo Canadian Pulp and Paper Mills, Quebec as a Plant Engineer; Price Brothers, Kenoganie, Quebec as an Assistant Mill Manager and Rothesay Paper Corporation, East Saint John, NB as Mill Manager. He held a private flying license from 1939 - 1986. He enjoyed stamp collecting. He is survived by his wife the former Janet Sorenson; son Gordon of Calgary, AB; daughter Sheila (James) Morrison of Halifax; brother George of Saint John, NB; sisters, Mrs. Doris Hoar and Dr. Anna Mary Burdett both of Riverview, NB.; 11 grandchildren. He was predeceased by his first wife the former Shirley MacKenzie. No visitation or service by family request. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Mattatall Funeral Home, Truro. OBITUARY W.E. Bill Dowbiggin Took his peaceful leave in Jupiter, Florida, on February 8, 2007, age 83. Eldest son of E.E. (Ted) and Maude Dowbiggin, devoted husband for almost 57 years to Therese (Terry), pater to Ian (Christine), Peter (Joanne), Bruce (Meredith), Gordon (Carolyn) and Stewart (Amanda), Grandpa to Beth and Christopher, Sydney and Joanna, Evan, Rhys and Clare, Colleen, Maureen and James, and Tristan, Calum and Devan. "Life is about making memories", he'd say as he greeted his brood at Lake Louisa or Milton. And memories he made. Pilot, businessman, gardener and devoted lover of roses, Bill was born in Montreal August 25, 1923, and spent the best part of his youth rambling through the Laurentians and studying at Strathcona Academy in Montreal. Called by duty, adventure and King George, he became a Lancaster pilot officer in the RCAF (431 Iroquois Squadron) and never stopped dreaming of flight after that. Returning from the good fight, he graduated in engineering from McGill (1950) and started a business career that spanned over half a century and much of Canada. His proudest moment came in 1963 when he launched Ampro Oxygen in Sherbrooke, Que., the first of several successful independent businesses in Hamilton and Toronto that he and his sons established. Away from his work, Bill liked nothing better than gardening at Lake Louisa or pursuing the perfect golf swing at Riverbend in Florida. He left us believing that he was on the verge of solving a pesky problem with his grip and stance. In lieu of flowers, please make a kind donation to The Salvation Army, Bills favourite charity.
