Beloved husband of Sunny Sandra Ruttenberg (nee Gillman) and loving father of Arlene Ruttenberg Skork (Jay) of Tel Aviv, Israel, Marc J. Ruttenberg (Noeline) of Stouffville, ON, and John M. Ruttenberg (Heather) of Johnson, Vermont. Grandfather of Crystal, Sinead, Eric, Sara, Kristine, Ashley, Alex, Micky and Greg. Brother of Leon Ruttenberg (Alicia) of Florida and Danny Ruttenberg (Florence) of Chomedy, QC. Dear son of the late Alfred Ruttenberg and the late Mary Berger. BECKINGHAM, JANIE HILDA (SMITH) - The death of Janie Beckingham, wife of the late Albert Beckingham, of Prince Edward Square Apartments, occurred at the Saint John Regional Hospital on December 28, 2006. She was born on September 28, 1928 in Ford's Mills to the late James and Laura (Sims) Smith. Janie is survived by her two children, Laurie Guitar of Saint John and John Beckingham of Toronto; one sister, Bertha Cyr of Saint John; one brother, Fred Smith of Toronto; seven grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Besides her husband and parents, she was predeceased by two brothers, Ernest and Albert Smith. The funeral service will be held from St. Paul's Anglican Church in Brown's Yard, NB on Sunday, December 31, 2006 at 2 pm. Beloved wife of the late Percy Henry McQuaig (1973). Dorothy was predeceased by infant twin daughters, Loreen Mae and Doreen Marie McQuaig (1936). Dorothy will be sadly missed by Lorne Strader (Late Vera) of Brinston, Gilson Strader and Jim Kerrio of Ottawa, Neil and Debbie Strader of Glen Becker, Lorna and Jeffery Johnston of Orleans, Sharon and Eric Zwicker and their sons Aaron and Brock Zwicker of Laval. She is survived by sisters-in-law Enid McQuaig. Emma Thompson and Gloria Thompson, a special niece Faye Gadde and many nieces and nephews. Il fut ordonné prêtre le 8 décembre 1954 à St-Hyacinthe. Il a exercé son ministère sacerdotal successivement aux paroisses St-Joseph et St-Eugène de Granby, à St-André d'Acton Vale, St-Pierre de Sorel, St-Bernard de Michaudville, St-Aimé et St-Marcel. BENTLEY, Wiley Vernon 1924 - 2006 Vern passed away at the Rockyview General Hospital on Sunday, December 24, 2006 at the age of 82 years. Vern was predeceased by his loving wife Jane in 1997. He will be missed by his special friend Carrie and numerous cousins and friends. Vern worked as a draftsman for Home Oil for over twenty-five years before his retirement. He and Jane had traveled throughout the world on various trips, cruises and all over North America in their motorhome. Vern was well involved in the Masons. He was a Past Master and served as the Lodge Historian of the Bow River Lodge No. 1, A.F. & A.M., G.R.A. If friends so desire donations in Vern's name may be made to the charity of one's choice. BOYLE, Michael 1936 - 2006 Michael Boyle passed away suddenly and unexpectedly at home on Sunday, December 24, 2006. Born in Montreal, boyhood in the Maritimes, Michael's military service took him to work and live in many places across Canada and around the world. During his posting in Germany, he met his beloved second wife, Rina (died April 2005). Michael was very active over the past twenty years in lay ministry at the Sacred Heart Church. He served on the Parish Council and Building Committee, and additionally as a Eucharistic minister and lector. Michael served as an RCIA leader and catechist, helping dozens of adults prepare to be received into the Church. Michael's deep commitment to his wife during her final illness, his religious devotion and his passion for classical music sustained him in recent years. Survived by sisters, Sheila Lachman (Charles), Mary Labram (Sam); his brother Sandy Boyle (Pierrette). He will also be greatly missed by his stepdaughter Anne "Didi" Buston (Garnet Barlow) and his stepson, Edward Mullens (Gail) and their families. DeSANTIS, Oswald (Ozzie) 1927 - 2006 Oswald (Ozzie) DeSantis of Calgary passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 28, 2006 at the age of 79 years. Ozzie was predeceased by his beloved wife of forty-one years, Genevieve (Ginette) in 1995; his mother Clarice in 1989; and his brother Aldo in 1995. Ozzie will be lovingly remembered by his daughters, Johanne (Mark) Hamilton and Natalie DeSantis (Greg Baillie); and his son Andre DeSantis. He also leaves behind five grandchildren, Javid Best, Malloreigh and Sean Hamilton, and Reid and Danae Arsenault. Ozzie will be remembered as a pillar of the Calgary community as a prominent member of the Calgary Lions Club, the Calgary North Business Association and a founder of the Early Bird's Club. He was the President of O. DeSantis Surveys Ltd. for thirty-five years which played an integral role in the development of many Calgary communities. He surveyed and planned areas in and around Calgary, including Sunshine Village and the Sunshine gondola. Ozzie was an avid sportsman, enjoying skiing in the winter and fishing, hiking, golfing, and gardening during the warm months. Ozzie and Ginette began to spend their leisure time in Whitefish, Montana in 1973, eventually retiring there. Ozzie loved Big Mountain and spent many hours teaching his grandchildren how to ski and took advantage of the great fishing in Montana. Ozzie and Ginette enjoyed many pets and passed the love of animals on to their children. They moved to Creston, BC in 1995 and Ozzie was President of Canyon community, an outlying area of Creston. Ozzie returned to Calgary in December 2005 to be closer to his children. RUUD, Val 1913 - 2006 Our beautiful and much loved mother, grandmother and great-grandma Val, while holding the hand of her eldest son David, slipped quietly away from this life to a new life with her Lord Jesus just before 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 27, 2006. Val was born in Bergen, Norway on March 31, 1913. She was one of five children. In 1929 at the age of sixteen her family immigrated to Resource, SK. It was there she went to work as a cook on a ranch where she met and fell in love with Theodore Ruud who also worked at the ranch. Val Ruud was known to be a classy, poised lady who was full of grace and endeared herself to everyone who met her by making them feel loved. She was always younger than her years and wherever she went she became the centre of attention. Val loved people and you would always find her talking, laughing, telling jokes or stories like she had known you all of her life. Whenever Val met people she always had a compliment for them. Together with Ted she had four children who were raised in Saskatoon, SK. The greatest gift she gave to each of her children is that they were deeply loved by her. Through difficult times in life she was resilient and persistent in her faith. Val's strength of character was a compass to all of our lives. Her sense of humour and her ability to laugh even through the most challenging circumstances taught us to be thankful. Val will always live in the hearts of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her daughter Donna (Gordon) Olson; grandchildren, Shawna (Kevin) Walker; and great-granddaughters, Brooklyn and Katelyn and Shane Ryan (Marie) Roberts and great-grandchildren, Dominic and Araby; her son David (Michelle) Ruud and grandsons, Tyler and Riley; her daughter Faithe (Ken) Tines and granddaughter Tamara; Tim and great-grandson Austin and youngest son Brian Ruud and grandsons, Dallas and Jeremy. Muriel Louisa (nee: Bruce) Somers 1931 - 2006 OAKVILLE, ON - After a short but courageous battle, Muriel Somers, 75, passed away on Saturday, December 23rd, 2006 at Oakville-Trafalgar Memorial Hospital. Muriel passed with her three sons, Stephen of Burlington, Peter of Toronto and John of California by her side. Wife of the late Ken Somers of Oakville and daughter of the late Lloyd and Hilda Bruce of Bridgetown, NS and sister to the late Enna Wylie and the late Wallace Bruce, Muriel is survived by her two sisters, Joyce McCrady and Pauline MacInnes. Beloved Grandie to Stephen's two children, Coleman and Chloe and John's two children, Theo and Eli. Muriel leaves beloved daughters-in-law, Elizabeth and Jennifer-Jo. Also known and loved as Moonie by her many family members and friends, Muriel will be sadly missed. Family received friends for visitation at the Kopriva Taylor Funeral Home, 64 Lakeshore Rd. AINSWORTH, Buffy Anne (nee Patterson) 1952 - 2006 Buffy Anne Ainsworth, beloved wife of Bob Ainsworth, of Calgary, passed away on Wednesday, December 27, 2006 at the age of 54 years. Buffy was born on March 4, 1952 in Calgary. She attended the University of Calgary, earning a BA in English, and the University of Alberta, completing course work leading to her Teaching Certification. Buffy will be fondly remembered as a wife, friend, and mother, as well as a teacher, musician, accomplished poet, and writer. Her family was her major passion but she also found time to pursue her writing, friendships, and travel. Buffy was a strong woman who lent grace and dignity to all she did. Following her diagnosis with cancer nine years ago she had repeated periods of treatment and illness interspersed with times of health and activity. Her family and friends feel blessed. Besides her loving husband, Buffy is survived by her two daughters, Heather and Jill; her son, Stephen; as well as her mother Laura Stewart Patterson, all of Calgary. Buffy is also remembered by her sisters, Luana (Ken) Waldron, of St. Albert, and Sylvia Polachuk, of Calgary; as well as her brother John (Lee) Patterson, also of Calgary. She was predeceased by her father, Henry S. Patterson. BRADLEY, MYRTLE PEARL We lost a very kind and loving woman on December 28, 2006 in the passing of Myrtle P. Bradley at Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital in Fredericton. Born in Hainesville on August 26, 1917, Myrtle was one of four children (and twin to brother Merle) of the late Howard J. and May M. (Blaney) Wallace of Maple Ridge, NB. A graduate of Provincial Normal School, she taught for 36 years, mostly in one-room schools in York County. She finished her career in Connaught Street School in Fredericton. Myrtle was a member of the Retired Teachers' Association and the retired teachers' craft group. She was a member of Brunswick Street Baptist Church, a Dominion Life Member of the Women's Missionary Society and of the Get Together Club. She belonged to Sir Howard Douglas Chapter of I.O.D.E. She is survived by her only son, Leland Bradley and his wife Judy (Humble) of Beamsville, ON; her brother, Robert Wallace and his wife Doreen of Newcastle; her sister, Bessie Scott and her husband Cyril of Hainesville; her sister-in-law, Kathleen Wallace of Maple Ridge; several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Myrtle was predeceased by her husband, Leland Bradley in 1943; her brother, Merle Wallace of Maple Ridge in 2002 and a brother-in-law, Cecil Sproull of Hainesville in 2001. BROWN, Norman Gregory (Norm) August 17, 1925 - December 20, 2006 Passed away peacefully at the Rockyview General Hospital, Calgary due to complications of Parkinson's and heart disease. Born and raised in Edmonton, Norm joined the Royal Canadian Navy in 1943 and served as a radar operator on the Corvette HMCS La Malbaie in the North Atlantic. After the war, Norm attended UBC where he met his wife, Beth. In 1950 he graduated in Mechanical Engineering and they were married in October of that year. Norm and Beth spent the early years of their marriage in Edmonton and Calgary, followed by a time in Vancouver, twenty-two years in Calgary, and much traveling. Norm was an active member of several Professional Engineering Associations and the Rotary Clubs in Calgary and Duncan, BC, and was a founder of the Probus Club in Duncan. He owned and operated a successful oil and gas equipment company in Calgary before retiring to Maple Bay, BC in 1990. Throughout his business career and retirement, Norm was an active mentor and advisor to many small businesses and a generous donor to a wide range of charities. Norm was predeceased by his loving wife Beth in 2005. Norm is survived and missed by his loving children, Patricia McCarthy, David Brown (Adrienne), Sandra Penner (Roy); and grandchildren, Natalie, Sean, Daria, Lindsay, Madeleine, Leslie, Erin and Robyn. Norm will be remembered as a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather, and dear friend and for his sharp wit, dreadful puns, entrepreneurial spirit and love of sailing. The family would to like express their deep gratitude to Dr. Roy and the staff from Harmony Health Care in Duncan for the love and special care Norm received over the last two years.
