Isabel Staples (née McMillan) June 28, 1909 - May 16, 2006 Funeral arrangements by Sands Funeral Chapel (Duncan) Passed away peacefully in her 97th year at the Chemainus Health Care Centre. Beloved mother of Heather, and Sheila (Jim) Watt. Isabel is also survived by granddaughters Shelley (Kenny) and Shannon (Duane); great-grandchildren Meagan and Jordan; nieces and nephews. She will be missed by her pet pal Holly. Predeceased by husband Nat, brothers Victor, John, Stewart and Roddy. Isabel enjoyed a long nursing career which began at St Joseph’s Hospital in Victoria and ended as a public health nurse in the Cowichan Valley. A special thank you to her family of caregivers at Chemainus Health Care Centre. A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, May 24, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. from St. John’s Anglican Church, 486 Jubilee Street, Duncan, BC. Alfred "Al" William Norman October 21, 1924 - May 16, 2006 Funeral arrangements by Sands Funeral Chapel (Duncan) Alfred William passed away suddenly but peacefully on May 16, 2006 after a brief illness. Predeceased by parents Henry and Ester; and sisters Letty and Lil. Al will be sadly missed by wife Dorothy; children Robert (Kelly), Heather (Mark) and Kathy (Rob); grandchildren Lindsey, Melissa, Paul and Dayna; sisters Dorothy Dwyer and Margaret McGowen; as well as many relatives and friends. For nearly half a century, Al worked his entire logging career at B.C.F.P., Caycuse and was a proud member of the IWA union. In his gentle manner, Al respected all and was praised for his deep knowledge in local and logging history. A celebration of Al’s life will be held at Sands Funeral Chapel, 187 Trunk Road, Duncan, BC on Saturday, May 27, 2006 at 12:00 p.m. A special thanks to Dr. Gilbert and the staff at Cairnsmore and CDH. He was a proud member of the Welsh Guards serving and wounded in WWII and later in Palestine. He was a member of the London Metro Police before immigrating and joining New Westminster City Police where he served for 25 years. HÉBERT, André 1934 - 2006 | À l'Institut de cardiologie de Montréal, le 15 mai 2006, est décédé M. André Hébert, fils de feu Léona Vézina et de feu Paul-Raoul Hébert. Il laisse dans le deuil son épouse et amie depuis plus de 50 ans Marthe Paquin, ses enfants Serge (Sophie), François (Yannie) et Diane (Paul), ses petits-enfants Adrianna, Gabrielle, Samuel, Jean-Loup, Yoann, Florence, ainsi que Aïcha et sa fille Mélina, ses frères et soeurs: feu Claude, Pierre, Denis, Louis, Hélène et leurs conjoints, ses beaux-frères et belles-soeurs et de nombreux parents et amis. André a été un promoteur très connu dans la région de Prévost et y a été maire de 1980 à 1982. Il a été membre de plusieurs associations à Prévost, St-Donat et Ojochal (Costa Rica), où il avait de nombreux amis. Dans sa jeunesse, il fut membre de l'Ordre de Bon Temps et des T-9. Il a toujours été une source d'inspiration et de ténacité. C'était un grand leader et il a su toucher la vie de plusieurs autant par son charisme que par son humanisme. Malgré son handicap physique, c'était un bâtisseur et il aura su laisser sa marque en tant que Grand Québécois. Il nous manquera beaucoup. She was born in Sprucedale and married Chester Wm. Pickard in Sudbury in 1932. Margaret was raised in Depot Harbour and educated in Parry Sound. She moved to Sudbury in 1929. She resided on Baker St. for 70 years prior to moving to the Walford Retirement Residence in 2002. A longtime employee of the Sudbury Children's Aid Society, she retired in 1974. A faithful member of Knox Presbyterian Church she had been an active member of the Knox's Women's Association. Margaret will be remembered as a caring wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, friend. She was honest, reliable and loved by all who knew her. Beloved wife of Chester Wm. Pickard predeceased 1973. Loving mother of Donald (wife Barbara) of Sudbury and Franklin predeceased 1996. BROCK Frances Gail November 29, 1939 - May 15, 2006 Gail Brock passed away quietly on Monday, May 15, 2006, at the Foothills Hospital. Gail was a strong-willed individual who loved a good argument, but who was unfailingly generous to family and friends. She was born and raised in Regina, achieved her Bachelors of Education in Edmonton and spent the majority of her married life in St. Albert and Bragg Creek, AB. RILEY-CLARKE, Joan A lively mix of curiosity, kindness and strong opinion, Joan was born in Grand Falls, N.B. in 1916 and died May 16 after a brief illness, a full life, and only a few years of decline. She trained as a nurse in Sussex, N.B., then worked in a hospital in Yonkers, N.Y. When Pearl Harbour was bombed she returned home to join the Canadian army nursing corps and set sail for South Africa where she cared for soldiers injured in the war. She married Art Riley of Ottawa in 1946 and raised their two children at home until he died, suddenly, in 1962. Widowed with two dependents, Joan returned to school for a diploma in public health nursing and spent several years as "Nurse Riley" at Woodroffe High School. After retiring, she met Stewart Clarke on holiday in Portugal and they married in 1985. For almost twenty years, they enjoyed travel, friends and family. CALVITTI Lucia Lucia Calvitti passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Tuesday, May 16, 2006 at the Agape Manor Hospice in Calgary after a courageous battle with cancer. She will be lovingly remembered by her husband of forty years, Raffaele Calvitti; her son Rino, daughter-in-law Monica, son Joey (Crystal) and her dearly loved granddaughter Jayda. She will also be sadly missed by her sister Tony Iavasile and niece Rose Iavasile (Larry); her brothers, Davide (Grazia) Colonna, Italo (Parisa) Colonna, Benito (Luciana) Colonna; and nieces/nephews, Marco (Kim), Anthony, Angela (Trevor), Enza (Warren), Joe (Barb), Anthony (Athina), Stephan; numerous great-nieces/nephews as well as many wonderful friends. Lucia was born in Termoli, Italy and came to Canada with her husband and young son in 1967. Lucia was active at the Lady of Grace Italian Church, singing in the choir and also a dedicated volunteer. The family would like to thank all the staff at the Foothills Hospital, Unit 47 and the Agape Manor Hospice for this loving care to Lucia during her illness. CUTHBERTSON, William James January 17, 1946 - May 16, 2006 Surrounded by family Bill died of cancer at his home in Perth. He was husband and best friend of Linda for 28 years, and loving and proud father of Bronwyn and Jaimie. Son of the late Peter (Herb) Cuthbertson and Edith (Park), and is survived by his brother Alex. Graduate of Queen's University (Arts 69). Former teacher "Mr. C" of Rideau Regional and Chimo Schools in Smiths Falls, North Elmsley School, and Queen Elizabeth School in Perth. Bill was a true "Perthite", his Scottish ancestors settled in this area in the 1820's. He loved his hometown and was proud to be part of the community life. In lieu of flowers, contributions to a local cause, event, or organization of your choice would be appreciated. Bill's friendly nature and good sense of humour ensured that he left happy memories for his many friends, especially his golfing pals, fishing buddies and the coffee group. PLUMMER, Lois Evelyn Age 67, Kemptville, ON, passed away peacefully on May 17, 2006, in the Kemptville District Hospital, a victim of cancer. She was born in Ottawa, a daughter of the late John and Doris Dale. Lois worked for the Public Service Commission for 38 1/2 years until her retirement in 1993. She is survived by her son, Brux, and his spouse, Trudy of Alliston, ON, and her grandchildren, Karlin, Madison, and Jessica. She is also survived by her sisters, Gladys and Jean; and with her brothers, Jim and Bob along with many nieces and nephews throughout Canada. Along with her parents; her love and partner Rudolph Joseph Brule, her sister, Florence, and her brothers Jack and Ron Dale have predeceased her. She will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved her. There will be no visiting hours or funeral by request and a small graveside memorial service will be held at Capital Memorial Gardens, Ottawa, ON for family and close friends. TEMPLE, Isabel Loving wife of the late Ken Temple, passed away peacefully at the Ottawa Civic Hospital on Saturday, May 13, 2006. Isabel was born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan on April 14, 1927 to Hugh and Mary McCreadie. Hugh worked for Canadian National Railways' as an agent in Watrous, Saskatchewan and Mary was active in community affairs. Isabel married Clifford (Ken) Temple on May 12, 1951 and moved to Toronto while Ken completed his diploma in Hospital Administration. Isabel and Ken started their family in Winnipeg, Manitoba with the birth of their son, Clifford in 1956 and then their daughter, Margaret in 1958. They spent 3 years in Whitby and then Isabel and Ken spent 34 happy years in Thunder Bay amongst friends and family. Isabel's husband Ken passed away September 5, 2005 after 54 years of marriage and she joined her family in Kanata for the past 6 months. Survived by her loving son Clifford Temple and daughter Margaret Mitchell (Roy) and grandchildren Ryan and Nicole Mitchell. Funeral services for the late Mrs. Isabel Temple will be held on Saturday, May 20, 2006 at 2:30 PM in St. Paul's United Church with Archdeacon Mark Conliffe officiating. Interment to follow at a later date. Following services at the Church, a reception will be held in the Officer's Mess of the Port Arthur Armoury, 317 Park Avenue. WALSH, Eugene Patrick Michael After a weekend spent with family and close friends, Eugene Walsh passed away peacefully on Monday evening, May 15th, 2006, at the age of 57 years. Eugene was born in St. John's, Newfoundland on August 8, 1948, son of Edward and Madeleine Walsh. Eugene joined Investors Group on August 20, 1969 and was in the Regional Director role for 25 of the 35 years he spent with IG. In January of 2002, Eugene retired as Regional Director. His health began to fail, and he ended his role as a Consultant in 2003. Throughout his illness, his love of life shone through. Todd describes his Dad as being an example of strength, grace, and courage. Eugene always had a smile on his face and was thinking of others, right to the end. Eugene will be lovingly missed and remembered by his family; 2 sons; Todd (Kerry Anne) of Penticton, BC and Toby (Deja) of Summerland, BC, 2 granddaughters; Kayla and Keanna, also of Summerland, mother, Madeleine Walsh of Paradise, Nfld, 3 brothers; Robert (Linda) of Ottawa, ON, Paul (Marjorie) of Fox Creek, AB, Gary (Karen) of Paradise, Nfld, 1 sister, Dianne (Leonard) Traverse, also of Paradise, numerous nieces and nephews and special friends, Mary Snelgrove and Michelle Walsh of Summerland and Don Gingras of Penticton, BC. Eugene was sadly predeceased by his father Edward in 1989. He will also be greatly missed by his Investors Group family whose lives he touched with his kindness and generosity. Eugene was an avid gardener, skier, boater, and traveler. He was an active community leader, serving numerous non-profit boards, and was a Dale Carnegie Instructor for more than 25 years. A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, May 21, 2006, at 3:00 P.M. in the Ballroom of the Penticton Lakeside Resort, 21 Lakeshore Drive West, Penticton, officiated by Robert OKeefe.
