OBITUARY HYACINTH SIMMONS Hycie passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 13 surrounded by her family. She was the beloved wife of the late Sydney Simmons. Hycie has left her loving imprint on the hearts of her children Roy (Glenda) Simmons, Amber (Gerry) D'Souza, Rod (Wilma) Simmons and Glenda (Kent) Talbot; her grandchildren Tammy (James), Suzanne (Colin), Amanda (JF), Alana, Alicia, Ricky, Samantha, Garett and Kristen; and her great-grandchildren Parker, Owen, Tyson, Colton and Megan. She is survived by her sister Rita (Harold) Quadros and brother Arnold Saldanha. Hycie was a longtime member of Ogden House and the Ogden Legion. She cherished the many good friends she had cultivated from near and far and worked hard to keep in touch with one and all. Hycie will always be remembered for her independence, love of the telephone and fierce loyalty to family. ROBINSON, DOREEN HELENA Doreen Helena Robinson passed away suddenly at home on Thursday, May 11, 2006. She is survived by her devoted and loving husband of 53 years, Gil B. Robinson; her four children, Laurie (Phil Galbraith) of Moncton; Gil (Debbie Stewart) of Fredericton; Catherine (Brad Hale) of Carlisle, ON; Barbara (Rob Holowack) of Waterloo, ON; six grandchildren, Andrew and Sam Galbraith; Lisa and Tyler Hale; Daniel and Kevin Holowack; and honorary grandmother to Erin, Meagan, Mike and Jake. Doreen enjoyed serving the community through being a member of Eastern Star, Frank H. Tingley #5 and volunteering for adult literacy. Her daughters will deeply miss their long chats and creative shopping trips. Her devotion and support of her son, Gil, was tireless. We will all miss her "love of life" and her generous spirit. Il était fils de feu Edmond Roy et de feu Marianne Landry. Il laisse dans le deuil deux filles: Louise de Néguac et Alice de Pokemouche; deux fils: Edmond (Adrienne Robichaud) de Bathurst et Bernard (Donatienne Cormier) de Pokemouche; quatre petits-enfants: Paul, Micheline, Marc et Valérie; une arrière-petite-fille, Koralie Mae; une soeur, Imelda (feu Omer Dugas) de Laval, Qc, ainsi que plusieurs neveux, nièces, filleules et filleuls. Cinq soeurs: Louisa, Joséphine, Priscille, Albertine en bas âge et un bébé naissant; deux frères: Hector et Allain, l'ont précédé dans la tombe. La dépouille mortelle est présentement exposée à la Maison funéraire Racicot de Caraquet. Les funérailles auront lieu en l'église Immaculée-Conception de Pokemouche, le lundi 15 mai, à 16h. DELONG, BLANCHE GERTRUDE Blanch Gertrude DeLong passed away on May 12, 2006 surrounded by her family and caregiver at her home at 135 Rockland Rd, Hartland, NB. Born in Maple Ridge, NB on September 12, 1910, she was the daughter of the late John H. Young and Annie F. (Dunlop) Young. Mrs. DeLong was predeceased by her husband Rev. George A. DeLong to whom she was married for 56 years. Together they pastored Reformed Baptist and Wesleyan Churches in New Brunswick and Maine including Perth, North Head on Grand Manan, and Saint John, NB, Fort Fairfield, Houlton, Old Town and Beals, Maine. A practicing Nurse throughout her life, graduating from Victoria Public Hospital in Fredericton, she led the province in her nursing board examination. She held several supervisory positions in several New Brunswick and Maine hospitals. Mrs. DeLong was the complete pastor's wife. She utilized her nursing skills in the pastoral work and she often filled the pulpit in her husband's absence. She was a sought after speaker at spiritual conferences, retreats and special services. She was a mentor and friend to several generations of younger pastor's wives. In the 1950's she began a maternity home in Jonesport, Maine in partnership with the Maine Sea Coast Mission in Bar Harbor. After being active for many years in the Women's Christian Temperance Union she was appointed Evangelistic Superintendent for Canada. A loving and devoted sister, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, she is survived by her twin brother Don S. Young and wife Eileen of Toronto, ON, Two children, Janet Phillips and husband Duane of Winter Haven, FL, Rev. Gary A. DeLong and wife Judy of Bar Harbor, ME, four grandchildren; Peter Hall. Stephen Hall, Marcy Sanford, Joshua DeLong, four great grandchildren Morgan, Jacob, Abigail, Julia and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by sisters Bertie Flemming and Nellie Dunphy. DOBIE, ETHELWYN DAISY The death of Ethel (Yeo) Dobie, of 750 Prince Street, Fredericton, wife of the late Robert T. Dobie, occurred at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital on Saturday, May 13, 2006. Born in Summerside, P.E.I. on July 21, 1914, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Daisy (Monkley)Yeo. Ethel and her family moved to Fredericton from Prince Edward Island in 1947, after which she worked for many years in the family business (Dobie Brothers' Store). After the store was sold she worked as a clerk, first at Tiny Tots and later at Neil's Hardware store. A devout church worker, she was a very active member of Gibson Memorial United Church and the UCW until her death and was a member of the church choir for nearly fifty years. Fiercely independent, Ethel had lived on her own since Bob's death in 1979 and as recently as this past Easter Sunday drove her own car to church and Sunday dinner. Ethel is survived by her two daughters Pat Dobie of Ottawa and Harriet Hildebrand and her husband David; two grandchildren; Nancy McAlinden, and her husband Greg and Eric Hildebrand, and his wife Coreen; and great-granddaughter Lauren Hildebrand, all of Fredericton, along with several nieces and nephews. She was the last remaining member of her immediate family, having been predeceased by two brothers Oswald and George Yeo and three sisters Lina Mountfort, Harriet Yeo and Sadie Newcombe. Visitation will be held at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Dr. on Monday May 15, 2006 from 2-4 and 7-9pm. JOHNSTON, FRANK CECIL Frank C. Johnston of Fredericton NB passed away at the York Manor Nursing Home, on May 13th 2006 at the age of 94. Born in Newcastle, NB on February 16th, 1912, he was the son of the late George and Jennie (Cameron) Johnston. He was a member of the Wilmot United Church as well as a member of the Fredericton Horsemen's Association, a loyal & avid fan of harness racing, having driven horses as well as a judge at Fredericton raceway. He was a carpenter for Diamond Construction. MAGEE, MARY K. - 1908 - 2006 - With sorrow we announce the death of Mary K. Magee, of Saint John, on May 12, 2006, at the Saint John Regional Hospital, after a brief illness. Daughter of the late Samuel and Annie (Smith) Wilbur she was born at McKee's Mills, Kent Co., on July 17, 1908. She was a Registered Nurse and had worked at the Moncton Hospital. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Her husband Harold A. Magee and son Charles W. Magee predeceased her. Surviving are sons Michael C. (Carol) of Saint John, James L. She was an independent, stong-minded person, fun loving and physical. Skye loved to draw, read, and listen to music. She loved animals with special thoughts to Twinkle, Benson, Dollar, and Sylphie. Skye was considerate of others and always willing to lend a helping hand to family, friends and anyone who needed it. Skye loved Japanese culture and hoped to travel widely. She aspired to be an international Marketing Consultant. LARACEY, JENNIE S. - The death of Jennie S. Laracey, wife of the late Leo John Laracey, occurred on May 12, 2006, at Rocmaura Nursing Home. Daughter of the late Charles H. and Sadie MacLean she was born at Marble Mountain, Cape Breton, NS. Jennie grew up on a farm in Cape Breton and always called the island "home". She loved being outdoors and tended her own garden until well into her 80's. After the war, she moved to Saint John with her husband Leo (Nick) where they operated a store on the corner of Victoria and Elgin Streets for several years. When their children were small, they began to build the family home on Clarendon Street. She later became a seamstress and many a graduate, bridesmaid and Hoffman's customer in the 1960's and early 70's worn her meticulously crafted creations (sometimes with a souvenir dressmakers pin left behind)! Her family and her home were the great pleasures in her life. She will always be remembered for her compassion, kindness and dark chocolate cake. Jennie's final months were spent at Rocmaura Nursing Home under the wonderful care of the staff of Terrace Court and the Sisters of Charity. Surviving are her son James Laracey, daughter Leona Laracey and her husband David Brown, all of Saint John, brothers Elwin MacLean of Cleveland, NS, Charles MacLean (Anna) of Ottawa, Malcolm MacLean (Helen) of Dundee, NS, sisters Ina Marshall (Charles) of Dundee, NS, Marlene MacEachern (Peter Yolases) of Cleveland, NS, Diana Eager (James) of Cleveland, NS, grandchildren Jessica Campbell, Meaghen Laracey, Leanne Laracey, Roderick Brown, great grandchild Devin Campbell, the Webster family children in Ottawa and several nieces and nephews. Sister Audrey MacLellan and infant brother John Angus MacLean predeceased her. Resting at Brenan's Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row (634-7424), with visiting on Sunday from 7-9 pm and Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. MEURLING, ALRIC FRITIOF Major (Retired), C.D., Bsc. Eng, P.Eng October 2, 1924 to May 11, 2006 Friends, it is with extraordinary regret that we announce that on Thursday May 11th, 2006, surrounded by his family, our father passed away. Forgive him for leaving the party early. He didn't like standard funerals and didn't want a formal viewing because he thought they are not happy things. Instead, he insisted on leaving this world with a memorial that echoes the way he lived in it - with family and friends, good memories, full of joy in a life well-lived. His death is sad but not tragic. Alric Meurling lived a rich life, laughed, cried, loved, is loved and generally lived life to the fullest. He graduated from the University of New Brunswick with a degree in Electrical Engineering in 1947 and then married his soul-mate, Dolly (Annie) Wilson on June 21 of the same year. Over the next 59 happy, busy years, the two had five children: Mary Ellen (Brian) MacLean, Cathi Farrell, Janice (Dirk) de Boer, John (Susan) Meurling, and Sara Jean (Ted Kaiser), who presented them with 13 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. Al was proud to have been a Squadron Leader in the RCAF, and retired after an accomplished career that included opening CFB Cold Lake in Alberta, construction on the DEW Line, and working with officers and men of distinction. He earned a commendation from the USAF for his exemplary service as an exchange officer with the Inspector General's office during the critical years of the Cold War. He retired from the Canadian Armed Forces as a Major in 1972. His second career with the Frontenac County Board of Education in Plant and Maintenance brought to the fore his dedication to the idea of a job well done. Following his retirement in 1987, Al was a committed member of the Ramses Shrine in Kingston, the Air Force Association, Silver Wings Group, and Saint Paul's Anglican Church, and actively participated and enjoyed the charitable and social life of each organization. He was a member of the Professional Engineers of Ontario, the Frontenac County Education Museum, Kingston United Services Institute, #416 Wing Air Force Association, a life Member of the Moira Lodge #11, Quinte Friendship Moira Chapter #7 Royal Arch Masons, King Baldwin Preceptory #6 (all of Belleville), The Valley of Kingston Ancient & Accepted Scottish Rite 32°, Ramses Temple A.A.O.N.M.S. - Toronto, 1000 Islands Shrine Club, Kingston & District Shrine Club and the Clearwater (Florida) Shrine Club. We hope that all of you will think of him fondly. The entire family, including the extended families, friends, and descendants will be sobbing, laughing, talking and living inspired by his immense vitality, sense of joy and love. McARTHUR John Dallas 1934 - 2006 John Dallas McArthur, P.Geol., passed away suddenly but gracefully and surrounded by his loving family, on May 13, 2006, at the age of 71. Along with the love of his life, Audrey, adoring daughter, Kerry (Mark Wolfe) and grandchildren, Megan, Kathryn and Miranda, John is survived by brothers, Lewis of Lytton, B.C. and Dan of Sandy Lake, Manitoba, and his sister Pauline of Brandon, Manitoba, and their families; and was predeceased by his sister Jean Kenyon of Toledo, Ohio. He is also survived by his stepchildren: Kim (Brad) Ballance, Cathy (Richard) Gotfried, and Jeff (Nancy) Newcommon and their children: Adam and Michael Ballance; Jordan, Justin and Georgia Gotfried; and Andrea, Brandon and Madison Newcommon. John was born October 3, 1934 in Dauphin, Manitoba, the youngest of five children; he received his B.Sc. in Geology at Brandon College in 1957. A member of APEGGA, CSPG and CAPL, he spent the first part of his career with Suncor (then known as Sun) in Calgary; later, he became a consulting geologist in 1960, working mainly in the shallow oil fields of Saskatchewan and Manitoba. His office assistant, Anne Marie Fesik, worked with him for twenty-three years; she will miss him dearly. John was a consummate outdoorsman: he spent much of his leisure time fishing the Bow River and at one time was part owner of Skitchine Lodge north of Kamloops. He was an avid deer and pheasant hunter, and raised numerous German Shorthair Pointers over the years as hunting companions. John was a fine musician who loved playing the clarinet, saxophone and piano. He was an early member of Calgary's big band, the Hippocratic Oath (now The Oath) and a local Dixieland band. John loved to cook, specializing in Chinese and Japanese dishes, and learned to make wine later in his life. He and his wife Audrey traveled to many destinations during their time together: Mexico, South America, Bali, Australia, New Zealand, Thailand, Hong Kong, Spain, Portugal, Great Britain and France. John was a true renaissance man, who lived every moment of his life to the fullest, surrounded by dozens of friends and loved ones. He often remarked that when the Big Moment came, he had had a wonderful life and had no regrets. Special thanks go out to the fine medical team at the Cardiac Unit of the Foothills Hospital; we appreciated all you could do to help our beloved husband and father. ELLIS Marjorie Reid 1914 - 2006 Marjorie Ellis of Calgary passed away peacefully at the Foothills Hospital in Calgary on May 13, 2006 at the age of 91 years. She was a kind and loving person who greatly enriched the lives of her family and friends. Marjorie was born in Bankhead, Alberta and graduated from the Calgary General Hospital School of Nursing before serving overseas during World War II. Following the war she settled in High River with husband Ross, raised her children and participated in various community activities, most notably Girl Guides. Marjorie was predeceased by her sister, Helen Scarr and loving husband Ross Laird Ellis. She is survived by her daughter Leslie of Calgary; son Rob and Loreen of Oakville, Ontario; grandchildren, Kyle and Michael Van derVelden, Geoffrey, Kris and Marnie Ellis of Oakville; and three great-grandsons, Jackson, Tyler and Zachary Ellis. Marjorie's family would like to thank Holy Cross Long Term Care Centre and Unit 32 at the Foothills Hospital for the exceptional care provided to her. A Service to commemorate her life be held at CALGARY CREMATORIUM CHAPEL, 3219 - 4 Street N.W. Antonio Corbin l'Acadie Nouvelle - 15 mai 2006 SAINT-JACQUES - À l'Hôpital régional d'Edmundston, le vendredi 12 mai 2006, à l'âge de 90 ans et quatre mois, est décédé Antonio Corbin, époux de Léda Bouchard, domicilié à Saint-Jacques. Il laisse dans le deuil trois fils: Jacques (Jeannine) d'Edmundston, Charles (Andrée) de Notre-Dame-du-Lac, Qc et Jean-Eude (Claudette) de Gatineau, Qc; trois filles: Jacqueline de Rimouski, Qc, France (Claude Lamontagne) de Québec et Marielle (Claude Chassé) de Lac Baker. M. Corbin était membre retraité du CN. Les funérailles auront lieu en l'église de Saint-Jacques, le mardi 16 mai, à 16h15.
