MÉRARD, Monsieur Edward Né à Thonon-Les-Bains (France), est décédé samedi le 22 avril 2006, lors d'un bref séjour chez sa fille en France. Maître cuisinier de France, il a dirigé, à titre de chef exécutif, les brigades des plus grands hôtels au monde dont le Queens à Leeds, le Gleneagles en Écosse, L'Adelphi à Liverpool, le Ritz-Carlton à Chicago, l'Innon-the-Park à Toronto, le Quatre-Saisons à Montréal et a terminé sa grande carrière au Reine Élizateth à Montréal. Shirley P. M. Collette 1925 - 2006 The death of Shirley P. M. Collette, 81 years, of Alma St, widow of the late Vincent E. J. Collette, occurred at Spencer's Memorial Home on Sunday, April 23, 2006. Born in Saint John, February 8, 1925, Shirley was the daughter of the late Albert H. and Marie M. (Chipman) Ramsay of Saint John. She was a member of St Bernard's Parish, the Irish Society of Moncton, St Anthony's Guild and the Canadian Wildlife Federation. Shirley joined Girl Guides in Saint John and had been a leader at St Bernard's Church since 1950. She has been honored by guiders, boy scouts, the City of Moncton and the Catholic Women's League for her work for more than 25 years of guiding. Shirley also studied art under art directors D. E. Campbell, Saint John, and Claude Roussel, Moncton. A position was created for her and she became the first person appointed Provincial Art Consultant to the New Brunswick Girl Guide Association. In 1959 she was honored by St Thomas University as an outstanding guider in the CWL in New Brunswick. In 1972 she was appointed Division Commissioner and given life membership in 1974. In 1973, the then Mayor of Moncton, Leonard C. Jones, presented Shirley an award of merit "in highest recognition for contributions to the civic welfare of her community". She was also a member of the Liberal Association. Shirley was special to her family. She was a great wife, mother, grandmother and friend, and she was loved and will be sadly missed by her daughter, Charlotte (Michael) McKenna of Moncton; granddaughter, Kathleen; grandson, Patrick; great grandson, Brendan; great granddaughter, Emma; and several cousins. Resting at Cadman Bowness Funeral Home, 114 Alma Street, Moncton visiting hours are on Tuesday, April 25, 2 to 4 pm and 7 to 9 pm and Wednesday from 12:00 noon to 1:45. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St Bernard's Roman Catholic Church, Botsford St, Moncton on Wednesday, April 26, 2006 at 2:00 pm followed by a reception in the church hall. George Gravel Retired Manchester fire captain George Gravel, 55, of Manchester, died Nov. 24, 2001, at Catholic Medical Center, from injuries sustained in a fall at his home. He was born in Manchester on Nov. 9, 1946, the son of Alphee and Georgette (Beaupre) Gravel and had been a lifelong resident. He was a firefighter with the Manchester Fire Department for 21 years and retired as Captain. He was with the Army National Reserve for six years and was an avid golfer and snow skier. Family members include his wife of seven years, Yvette (Garand) Gravel of Manchester; three daughters, Robin Gage of Chester, Renee Raymond and Roxanne Van Der Putten, both of Manchester; five grandchildren; two brothers, John Gravel of Ft. Myers, Fla., and Leo Gravel of Concord; two sisters, Louise Rossiter of Bedford and Clarisse (Gravel) Charland of Manchester; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Sr Imelda Valois, fma (Marie-Jeanne-de Valois) l'Acadie Nouvelle - 24 avril 2006 - Au Pavillon Edmée-Martin, est décédée à Campbellton, le samedi 22 avril 2006, à l’âge de 91 ans et cinq mois, et dans sa 70e année de profession religieuse, Sr Imelda Valois. Elle était fille de feu Louis Valois de St-Cyrille, Qc et d’Eugénie Dubé de Rimouski, Qc. Outre sa famille religieuse, parmi laquelle se trouvent deux nièces, les Srs Imelda et Paulette Turcotte, elle laisse dans le deuil une belle-soeur, Rolande Valois (Antonin), ainsi que de nombreux neveux et nièces. Sr Imelda, étant la dernière de cette famille, a été précédée dans la tombe par ses quatre soeurs: Alice, Anne-Marie, Alida et Léonie, et par ses cinq frères: Jean-Marie, Alfred, Cyrille, Ulric et Antonin. Avant de se retirer à la Maison mère en 1991, Sr Imelda a oeuvré dans la plupart des maisons de la Congrégation en tant que couturière dans la fabrication de vêtements liturgiques et de meubles. Femme polyvalente, pleine de talents, aventureuse et débordante d’énergie et d’humour, elle a été une femme de service. En janvier 1999, Sr Imelda est admise à l’infirmerie de la congrégation, le Pavillon Edmée-Martin. La dépouille mortelle sera exposée le lundi 24 avril, à la Maison mère des Filles de Marie-de-l’Assomption, située au 2, rue Arran, à Campbellton. Une célébration de prière aura lieu en soirée, à 19h30. La messe des funérailles aura lieu au même endroit le mardi 25 avril, à 11h. La direction des funérailles a été confiée aux soins professionnels du Salon Maher de Campbellton.

Kip was an accountant with the Canadian Armed Forces. Ida Marion Fillion It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Ida Fillion, dear wife of Jeannot Fillion, on April 21, 2006 at Seven Oaks Hospital. Ida is survived by her children Marie-Anne (Ivan), Gerard, Jean-Claude (Cathy); grandchildren Renée, Dallas, Cody, Kayla, Brittaney; great-grandchildren Tangela and Neo; sisters Clara (John), Rose (Ronnie), Alice, Judy (Stan), Jeanny (Clarence) and Christy; brother Joseph; and numerous nephews and nieces. Ida was born on the Little Saskatchewan Reserve and moved to Winnipeg in the 1950’s. She married her sweetheart, Jeannot in 1959. She greatly enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, nephews and nieces. She was also a very dear friend to many. The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff at Health Sciences Centre and at Seven Oaks Hospital. Amalia Maria Blomsma 1915 - 2006 HARRISVILLE, NB - Amalia (Emmy) M. Blomsma, 90, of Harrisville, passed away on Saturday, April 22nd, 2006 at The Moncton Hospital following a lengthy illness. Born in The Hauge-Holland on June 26th, 1915, she was the daughter of Wilhelm and Allegondaw Jansen. Amalia found delight and gratification in her work as a school teacher in Holland before she and her family immigrated to Canada in 1951. She was the shining star of her family, completely devoted to her husband, children and grandchildren. Amalia found lasting associations through her membership in the Harrisville Women's Institute. She enjoyed her craft and tea afternoons with the Harrisville ladies. She felt greatly honored and thrilled when many of them along with several cherished friends and family gathered to celebrate her 90th birthday last June. Amalia had a great love and respect for animals. She loved to play the piano, knit and sew. She crafted beautiful sweaters, afghans, and teddy bears for her family. She also donated much of her work to needy families in the Moncton area. Her smile, keen mind, sweet disposition and wonderful sense of humor were a delight to anyone who had the pleasure of knowing her. Amalia is survived by her husband of 67 years, Frederik Blomsma; and her three sons, Robbert (Elizabeth), Moncton, Fred (Sharon), Riverview, and Paul (Kathie), Harrisville; her five grandchildren, Angela, Emily, Jill, Michael, and Kristi; her daughter-in-law, Carol Blomsma of Rothesay; and sister-in-law, Jet Geelen-Blomsma of The Netherlands. She was predeceased by her brother, Joe; and son, Wiebe (Bill). Her family wish to extend sincere thanks to Drs. Deware, LeBlanc, and Russell and the devoted nurses and staff of The Moncton Hospital, 5200 and 3600 for their excellent care and compassion extended to Amalia during her three month stay. She was always very grateful for anything that anyone did for her, as such; the many little extras meant so much. By personal request there will be no public visitation or funeral service at the funeral home. A private family service will take place. HASHEY, EARL ROBERT The passing of Earl Robert Hashey occurred Saturday, April 22nd at the Doctor Everett Chalmers Hospital in Fredericton. He was 82. Born in Joggin's Mines NS, he was the son of the late Gerald & Ethel (Vance) Hashey. Roman Catholic by faith, he was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 4 for 50 years & worked for Capital Window Cleaners as well as Irving Oil for several years prior to that. Survived by his loving wife of 52 years Lucille, 1 son Ronnie Hashey (Patricia) of Burtt's Corner, 3 daughters Shirley-Anne McFarland, (Robert) of Fredericton, Sharon Brewer of Keswick NB, Brenda Brewer (Laureston) of Burtt's Corner, 1 brother Richard Hashey of Fredericton, 2 sisters Elizabeth Fearon (Ace) of Gagetown NB, & Mabel Hashey of Ontario. Also survived by several nieces & nephews, 9 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren & 1 great great grandchild. Besides his parents, Earl was predeceased by 1 daughter Judith, 3 sisters, Dorothy, Shirley, & Jean, as well as 1 brother Donald.
