AIRHART Arnold E. April 25, 1918 April 17, 2006 Arnold Elwood Airhart of Abbotsford, BC, died April 17 at the Mission Memorial Hospice at the age of 87. Arnold was born in Alsask, Alberta, the third of four children born to his parents, John Franklin and Anne (Eby) Airhart. Of two elder twin sisters, Violet died in early childhood and Viola predeceased him in 2002. His younger brother, Willard, is retired and living in Hamilton. Arnold met, and later married, his wife Doris (Comfort) while he was attending Canadian Nazarene College in Red Deer, Alberta. Arnold spent his life in service to the Church of the Nazarene, both as a pastor and as president of Canadian Nazarene College. His last assignment before retirement was Academic Dean of Nazarene Bible College in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Upon their retirement in 1983, the Airharts returned to their native Canada settling in Abbotsford where they have lived until the present. Arnold was a man of many talents and interests. He was an avid hockey player in his high school days and only his slender build kept him from pursuing hockey at a more competitive level. His passion for golf is well known, but he also enjoyed fishing for many years. And as much as Arnold enjoyed being a husband and father, he relished the role of grandfather and, in his last few years, great-grandfather as well. He took a deep and godly interest in his grandchildren and the legacy of love and spiritual guidance that he leaves to them is something that he took great pains to foster. Arnold is survived by his wife of sixty-six years, Doris (Comfort); their three children and their spouses, son Philip (Laurie) of Veneta, Oregon, son Russell (Carol) of Winnipeg, and daughter Carolyn Alho (Rolland) of Calgary; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Willard (Dorothy) of Hamilton. JONES Diane (nee Ramsden) Diane Jones (nee Ramsden), beloved wife of Jeff Jones, passed away at the Chinook Hospice on Wednesday, April 19, 2006 at the age of 49 years. She was predeceased by her son Tyler on March 25, 2006. Besides her loving husband Jeff she is survived by her parents, Albert and Mary Ann Ramsden, one sister Delilah Fedun and her children, Troy and Krystle Fedun of Calgary. MACDONALD, Olive (nee St. John). 1928-2006. It is with deep sorrow we announce the death of our mother on Tuesday, April 18, 2006 after a courageous battle with cancer. HALL, Irene Margaret "Peggy". Passed away peacefully on Friday, April 14, 2006 at the age of eighty-nine. Formerly of Toronto, ON, Beaconsfield, PQ and Burlington, ON, Peggy was predeceased by her husband, Boulton, in 1988. She is loved and very sadly missed by her son, Bill, and daughter-in-law Susan, of West Vancouver and daughter Deborah, of Sebringville, ON, who were with her as she passed following a short stay at the hospital. Peggy is fondly remembered by Deborah's partner, Brian Misener; cousin, Alan and Jane Morrow; niece, Barbara (Bob) Agar; nephews, Gary (Alaria) Hall and Rick (Linda) Hall and their families. Special thanks to the nurses and staff at Hollyburn House and at Lions Gate Hospital 4 East for their care and efforts to make Peggy's stay comfortable and dignified. SWAN, Roxy Lavinia (Nee Gault) It is with great sadness that Roxy's husband and children announce her passing in her 81st year after a very courageous battle with cancer. Beloved wife for nearly 60 years of Norman W. Swan. She has left behind her cherished children, Tom (Betty), Louise (Ron), Wayne (Domin-ique), Nancy (Don) and Grandsons Andrew, Blair, Justin, David and Kyle. Also, as part of her extended family Christine & Eric, Jenna & Zach, Gabrielle & Sophie. She was a longtime choir member of St. Paul's Eastern United Church. She also was a faithful attendee of Remebrance Day Ceremonies and Battle of the Atlantic (1st Sunday in May) over the years. She was a Past Matron of Lorraine Chapter No44, OES. Her mastery in her kitchen for flavourful food was envied by many. Her pies at church bazaars were spoken for before she even entered the church. Her vibrant personality, her beautiful smile, her love of bridge and her ability to engage in meaningful conversation on every level will be sorely missed. Her eagerness to always learn has been cut short by a dreadful disease. SLADE, Susan Margaret Departed this world peacefully at home in Manotick on Thursday, April 20, 2006, at the age of 60. Sue the beloved wife of her husband Charles and the loving mother of Chuck, Lucy, Polly, Thomas and Saxon. Grandmother of her much loved grandchildren Quinn and Adrian. Sue, the only daughter of Margaret and Henry St. John, was born in England and met her husband while working in Malawi where they married in 1969. The family moved to Canada in 1981. Special thanks to the doctors and nurses at the Ottawa Cancer Centre, the VON nurses, the Palliative Care Outreach Program, and her many friends who treated and supported her during her two year struggle with breast cancer. PHEMISTER, Norman Clendenning Veteran WWII Retired Bell Canada In Ottawa on Thursday, April 20, 2006 in his 91st year, after a brief illness. Loving husband for over 63 years to Mary (nee Sherwood). Devoted father to George and Martha (John Edmond). Predeceased by sister Jean (Frederick Charles Oppen) and brother Ross. Born and raised in Niagara Falls, Ontario, Norm graduated from the University of Toronto in 1938. During WWII, he served in Europe with the Royal Canada Corps of Signals, and was awarded the Order of Orange-Nassau by the Netherlands Government for his contribution to the Dutch people. After a long career with Bell Canada and the Trans Canada Telephone System, Norm retired as a senior executive to enjoy summers at Big Rideau Lake and the Royal Ottawa Golf Club, and winters in Sarasota, Florida. Norm will be missed by his family, nieces and nephews and many friends far and wide. DESRIVIERES, Robert R. 1926 - 2006 Bob passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 19, 2006 at Bluewater Health Palliative Care. He bought some time with treatments, but cancer won out in the end. Bob is survived by his loving wife and partner Pearle (Bidgood). He also leaves a son, Dennis (Shirley) of Sarnia and a daughter, Deborah of Ste. Anne, Manitoba. Bob is fondly remembered by grandson Robert Marc (Danielle) of Sudbury and great-grandson Evan; Granddaughter Renee Pereira (Jamie) of London recalls happy times. Bob is survived by a brother Gilbert (Connie) of Ottawa, and sisters Louise of Barrie and Carole (Zoli) of London. He was a member of the R.C.A.F. during W.W.II, and served as a radio air gunner, aircrew with the 437 Squadron in England. Bob is a retired employee of Dupont Canada. Bob has requested that there be no visitation. Cremation has taken place. Interment in the family plot at Notre Dame Cemetery in Ottawa will take place at a later date. CULLEN, Francis (Frank) Rankin B. Gen ret'd, MD July 31, 1921 to April 20, 2006 In hospital on Thursday, April 20, 2006. Beloved husband of the late Dorothy Frances. He is survived by his children Tom (Marilyn), Pat (Susan) Mike (Donna) and Susan (Brian MacLean); his grandchildren Michael, Morgan, Aaron, Mark, Amy (Chris MacQuarrie), Graham and Michelle, and his great-grandchildren Zachary, Olivia, and Taryn. Born in Dryden, Ontario, and at the age of 19, in 1940, joined the RAF. As a pilot in WWII he served in England, Malta, North Africa and Italy. On his return from WWII he entered medical school at the University of Toronto, then transferred to the army and served in the Korean War as a doctor. In 1964 he received his specialty in anesthesiology. He was a career military man who held positions in Whitehorse, Winnipeg, Pensacola, Toronto, Halifax and Ottawa. He retired as a Brigadier General and his final posting was Commandant of the National Defence Medical Centre in Ottawa where he retired in 1977. He continued his career with the Department of Veterans Affairs for several years. BEAUCHEMIN, Thérèse, O.Ss.R. Le 20 avril 2006, au Monastère des Moniales Rédemptoristines, est décédée à l'âge de 81 ans, Soeur Thérèse Beauchemin, de l'Ordre du Très-Saint-Rédempteur. Née à Woonsocket, Rhode Island, aux États-Unis, le 1er avril 1925, elle était la fille de feu Willie Beauchemin et de feu Elzire Lamothe. Entrée au monastère des Moniales Rédemptoristines de Sainte-Anne-de-Beaupré le 3 mai 1946, elle fait profession le 17 mai 1948. Outre sa communauté, elle laisse dans le deuil ses soeurs Theona, Manita (Jean René Le Siège) et Denise ainsi que Denise sa nièce bien-aimée et de nombreux autres neveux et nièces. Elle sera exposée dans la chapelle du monastère le 22 avril, et le soir une paraliturgie aura lieu à 19 h 30. Parents et amis sont invités à se joindre à la communauté pour cette célébration.
