CRANSTON, James 1924 - 2006 Jim died peacefully in hospital on 31 March, 2006 following a brief illness. He is now reunited with his beloved wife Nonnie (Lorna), but will be forever missed by his brother Charles (Jen) of Ottawa and his adored nieces Lynne Sabatino (Rick, and children Erica and Michael) of Orleans and Shona Jackson (Neil, and children Cailan and Liam) of Cochrane, Alberta. Born in Hamilton, Scotland, Jim served with the RAF in WWII and emigrated with Nonnie (an ex-WAAF) to Canada in 1956. He enjoyed his career as a structural draftsman with a number of Ottawa engineering firms before retiring from the Department of Public Works in 1985. A life-long Dixieland Jazz aficionado, an avid golfer and loyal football fan, he and Lorna also became dedicated members of and tireless workers for the William Barker Bailey, V.C., 410 Wing of the Air Force Association of Canada. Jim's ready wit and fun-loving nature complemented Lorna's generous heart and together they made lasting friendships which continued even after Lorna's passing in 2004. He will be especially missed by his neighbours the Pauls, Tubmans and McGoverns and by his long-time "breakfast buddy", Lloyd Wilcox. Following a private cremation, a Memorial Service to honour Jim's life will be held at the Central Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, 315 McLeod Street on Thursday, April 6, 2006 at 2:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated by the family. QUARTERMAN, C. David Passed away peacefully at home on Friday, March 31st. Born in Oxford, England December 28, 1925, he was predeceased by his parents Christopher Quarterman and Elizabeth Sarah nee Bulbeck, and wives Hilda Hollebon and Elizabeth Busk. Survived by his wife Marilyn Pritchard, son John (Kelly) of Kanata, and daughters Susan (Arjan Van Asselt) and Ann (Keith Robine) of Rossland B.C. David's grandchildren Sarah, Nadia, Sage, Natasha and Ryan all inherited grandpa's love of the outdoors, skiing and sailing. Cremation to be followed by private dedication later. The family will welcome friends and former colleagues at a memorial celebration of David's life to be held at Britannia Yacht Club, 2777 Cassels Street, On Thursday, April 13, 2006 from 2:30 - 6:00 p.m. For those wishing, a donation to the Canadian Diabetes Association or the Heart & Stroke Foundation would be appreciated. TURNER, Joseph Peter Peacefully at the Kingston General Hospital on Saturday, April 1, 2006. Joe Turner beloved husband of Velma Leeder. Dearest father of Joan Lindop and her husband David, Mary Jane Pilon and her husband Richard, Irene Stevens, Brian and his wife Debbie and Arthur and his wife Nancy. Elizabeth Noël (1913-2006) l'Acadie Nouvelle - 3 avril 2006 SAINT-ISIDORE - À l’Hôpital de Lamèque, le samedi 1er avril 2006, à l’âge de 92 ans, est décédée Elizabeth Noël, épouse de feu William Noël, domiciliée au Pavillon du Bel Âge de Tracadie-Sheila, mais autrefois de Saint-Isidore. Née le 9 septembre 1913, elle était fille de feu Joseph Duguay et de feu Marie-Anne Boucher. Elle laisse dans le deuil deux filles: Médora de Montréal et Thérèse (Claude Chiasson) de Saint-Isidore; un petit-fils, Romuald (Eva) de Tracadie-Sheila qu’elle considérait comme son fils, ainsi que six petits-enfants: Jean-Claude, Lionel, Claudine, Stéphane, Daniel et Alain et 11 arrière-petits-enfants. Mme Noël était la dernière personne vivante de sa famille immédiate. Sa soeur, Emélie, ainsi que deux frères: Rémi et Philias, l’ont précédée dans la tombe. La dépouille mortelle est présentement exposée à la Maison funéraire Robichaud, 3875, rue Principale à Tracadie-Sheila. Les funérailles auront lieu en l’église Saint-Isidore de Saint-Isidore, le lundi 3 avril, à 19h. L’inhumation se fera au cimetière paroissial. Benjamin «Ben» Rousselle (1918-2006) l'Acadie Nouvelle - 3 avril 2006 RIVIÈRE-DU-PORTAGE - À sa résidence, le samedi 1er avril 2006, à l’âge de 87 ans, est décédé subitement Benjamin «Ben» Rousselle, époux de Cécilia St-Coeur, domicilié à Rivière-du-Portage. Né le 3 novembre 1918, il était fils de feu Jean-Baptiste Rousselle et de feu Marie Brideau. Outre son épouse, il laisse dans le deuil huit filles: Thérèse de Leech, Ella (Jean-Claude Saulnier) de Pont-LaFrance, Yvette (Rick Newfeld) et Régina (Carter Curry), toutes deux d’Ottawa; Annette (Laval Roy) et Yolande (Gary Miller), toutes deux de Saint-Jean, Exodia (Jude Duguay) de Duguayville, Alvine (Rémi Jean) de Saint-Isidore; quatre fils: Jean-Paul (Alice) de Rivière-du-Portage, Hector, Gilles (Pam) et Alvery, tous de Saint-Jean; un gendre, Jos Forbes de Néguac; une bru, Jackie (feu Normand) de l’Ontario; deux soeurs: Régina (Jérôme Benoît) de Tracadie-Sheila et Irène (Bill Spoelmon) de Barrie, Ont.; deux frères: Matt (Aimée) et Alvery (Hélène), tous deux de Sudbury; deux belles-soeurs: Aline (feu Alcide Rousselle) de Brantville et Emerique (feu Elizé Rousselle) de Gaspésie, ainsi que 28 petits-enfants, 21 arrière-petits-enfants et plusieurs neveux, nièces, cousins, cousines, filleules et filleuls. Rousselle a exercé le métier de pêcheur pendant la majeure partie de sa vie. Il était membre du Club de l’âge d’or de Rivière-du-Portage, membre de la Légion royale canadienne de Tracadie. HUNTER, ELSIE AILEEN Passed away peacefully at Riverview Manor, Bath, NB on March 31, 2006 at the age of ninety-nine years. Born in Bristol on February 10, 1907, Elsie Aileen Hinter was the daughter of the late Ransford and Georgia (Tapley) Giberson. Predeceased by her husband, George S. Hunter and son Dale; three sisters, Janet (Jenny) Ford (Arthur), Elizabeth (Dolly) MacKenzie (Glen) and Mattie Densmore (George). Mr. George Arthur Branscombe SUSSEX, NB - Mr. George Arthur Branscombe of Sussex and formerly of Moncton, NB, died peacefully after a brief illness on April 1, 2006 at the age of 83. Born in Steeves Settlement, NB, he was the son of the late Lucas and Loretta (Cochran) Branscombe. George is survived by his wife, Edith (Cogswell Steeves) Branscombe; three daughters, Sherrill Carter and her husband, Lawrence of Moncton, Hope Graham of Antigonish, NS and Rhoda Wilson and her husband, Tim of Sussex; two sons, Rev. Hanford Branscombe and his wife, Joan of Oshawa, ON and Clinton Branscombe and his wife, Jo-ette of Sussex; his sister, Ruth Stevens and her husband, Paul of Steeves Settlement; nine grandchildren, Stephen and Karen Carter of Moncton, Holly Sayer and her husband, Jason of Indiana, Rev. Tim Branscombe of Grand Manan, Heidi Branscombe of Alabama, Samuel and Izaak Wilson and Sharla and Gareth Branscombe; as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his first wife of 53 years, Maryellen (MacCallum) Branscombe; and a son-in-law, George Graham, who both passed away in 2000. George was a member of the Havelock Wesleyan Church. He was a mechanic who had worked for Alex E. Ross and Les Jones until he was stricken with Polio in 1952. After recuperating, he again worked in his field for Apex, Blackwood Hodge and Universal Sales. CHAPMAN, Dr. Douglas Gordon - Born December 22nd 1918 in Dundas, Ontario and died peacefully at the Kingston General Hospital. Predeceased by his wife Margaret (nee Smillie) and his brother Ross. Survived by his brother Keith, sister Helen, and children Dorothy and her husband Brian, Dean and his wife Brigid, Keith and his wife Louise, Douglas and his wife Gretchen, Wendy and her husband Peter. Also survived by his grandchildren Sean, Stephen, Scott, Tracy, Lesly, Patrick, Renee, Christopher, Sarah, Katie, Adrian and Dominique, and great granddaughter Mya. Douglas received his Ph.D. in Food Chemistry in 1949 at McDonald College of McGill University. Douglas served in various roles in the Food and Drug Directorate including Director of the Food Advisory Bureau in Ottawa. He represented Canada at many international meetings on food additives and nutrition. He spent two years as a Food Technologist with the Food and Agriculture Organization in Rome, Italy. He also spent three years as a Food Scientist, with the Food Additives Unit, World Health Organization in Geneva, Switzerland. Douglas and Margaret were dedicated members of the United Church of Canada, most recently in Yarker, Ontario. Douglas was an active member of the Napanee Rotary Club and many other volunteer organizations. He was awarded the Province of Ontario, Senior Achievement Award in recognition of outstanding contribution to the Citizens of Ontario. Douglas and Margaret enjoyed traveling, visiting many international destinations. In his spare time, Douglas pursued his passion for gardening. But Douglas's greatest passion was always his family. CAPOBIANCO, Antonio 1912 - 2006 À l'hôpital Santa-Cabrini, le 30 mars 2006, à l'âge de 93 ans, est décédé Monsieur Antonio Capobianco, un leader de la communauté italienne, ex-président des Assurances Capobianco inc. Monsieur Capobianco a été membre fondateur de l'hôpital Santa-Cabrini, de l'église Notre-Dame-de-la-Consolata, fondateur et gou-verneur de la C.I.B.P.A., Association des des gens d'affaires et professionnels canadiens-italiens du Québec. Il a fait plu-sieurs présentations et revendications au-près du gouvernement fédéral au sujet des internés canadiens-italiens lors de la Seconde Guerre mondiale de 1939-1945, collaborateur du journal Il Corriere-Italia-no, membre de l'Ordre des fils d'Italie au Canada, très impliqué dans plusieurs au-tres organismes sociaux et politiques de bienfaisance au Québec et Canada. Il laisse dans le deuil sa compagne Rose Tomasino, sa belle-soeur Huguette Jodoin (feu Michel Capobianco), ses neveux et nièces, Claude (Jocelyne), Peter (Angie), Ann (Dave), Yves (Carole), sa petite-nièce Melissa, son petit-neveu Michel, ainsi que plusieurs autres parents et amis. SMILEY, George Willimott. On Friday, March 31 at Magog, Quebec in his ninety-fourth year. Predeceased by his wife Muriel Mc Naughton. Brother of the late Douglas Smiley (Rae, deceased), Robert Smiley (Mary, deceased), and the late Helen Campbell (Colin, deceased). Also leaves nephews, nieces, grand nephews and grand nieces. George was born in St.Lambert where he was brought up. He attended McGill University and graduated as a chemical engineer. Immediately after graduation in 1936 he moved to Magog where he worked at Dominion Textile until his retirement. George was a member of the Magog Tennis Club and was the President for several years. He was active in the Magog Library and worked on fund raising for the Canadian Red Cross. He was an active member of St. Paul's United Church and took part in many of the activities at the Church. George enjoyed all kinds of sports and games and played snooker regularly at the Community Centre. The family will receive condolences at Residence Funeraire Ledoux Magog Inc. at 150 Sherbrooke Street, Magog, Quebec (819) 843-4473. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Memorial Service will be held at St. Paul's United Church Pine St., Magog on Wednesday 2 p.m. The family will be there at 1:30 p.m. In lieu flowers donations to a charity of your choice would be appreciated. KEITH, DORTHA PEARL - Mrs. Dortha Pearl Keith of Newline, NB, passed away at Sussex Health Centre on April 2, 2006 at the age of 82. Born in Havelock, NB on April 23, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Stephen and Olive (Ryder) Burgess and the beloved wife of the late Angus Smith Keith who passed away in 1998. Mrs. Keith is survived by her only son, Royden Keith and his wife Judy of Newline; four grandchildren, Fern Adams and her husband Chester, Shelly Lyons and her husband Rick, Sandy McLean and her husband Russell and Robbie Obermeier and her husband Neil; ten great-grandchildren, Jeremy, Nicholas, Erica, Naomi, Ben, Megan, Emily, Alex, Grant and Joshua; two great great-grandchildren, Myranda and Reanna Boyd; as well as several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Keith was predeceased by Lottie and twin sister Bertha and Lottie. Mrs. Keith was a member of Calvary Pentecostal Church. LYTTLE, DONNA ELAINE (THOMPSON) - The unexpected death of Donna Lyttle, wife of Dwain Lyttle, of Anthony's Cove Road, Red Head occurred at the Saint John Regional Hospital on April 1st, 2006. She was born in Saint John on July 21st, 1959 to Fred and Judy (Falkenham) Thompson. Donna was a homemaker by choice; she had a zest for life, enjoyed daily walks with her mom, gardening, and a true love for the outdoors. Besides her husband Dwain and her parents, Donna is survived by her son Cory at home; brother: David (Pam) Thompson of Saint John, NB; two nieces: Chelsey and Courtney Thompson; sisters-in-law: Diane Sharpe, Sharon (David) Keirstead and Wanda Michaud; brothers-in-law: David (Kim) Lyttle and Vincent (Stephanie) Lyttle; several aunts, uncles, and cousins. Maxime Gallant 1912 - 2006 SAINT PHILIPPE, NB - Maxime Gallant, 93, of Saint Philippe, passed away on Saturday, April 1st, 2006 at the Dr. Georges-L. Dumont Hospital. Born in Saint Philippe, NB, he was the son of the late Fidel and the late Josephine (née: Gallant) Gallant. Mr. Gallant was a parishioner of Saint-Philippe Roman Catholic Church. He is survived by his niece, Celina (Albert) Landry, with whom he resided; as well as several other nieces and nephews. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family, he was predeceased two sisters, Dora and Celina; and also by two brothers, Walter and William. LONGSTON, Martha (nee Liddell) - In loving memory of Martha Longston, (nee Liddell), 84 years, who passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 1st, 2006 at Extendicare Falconbridge. Daughter of Mary (O'Neil) and William Liddell both predeceased. Beloved wife of 59 years to John Longston of Lively. Loving and supportive mother of Jack (wife Marjatta) of Vancouver, Betty Pollard (husband Andrew) of Kingston, Anne (husband Tim Swanson) of Winnipeg, Peter (wife Mary) of Kimberly, BC and Cathy Carrier (husband Fred) of Lively. Proud and dedicated grandmother of Kris, Angie, Charles, Jason, Richard, Michael, Raegan, Aaron, Cody, Robin, Jesse. New great- grandmother to William. Predeceased by all her brothers and sisters, Mary, Janet, Bessie, William, Jimmy, Peter, Nessie and George. Sadly missed by her many nieces and nephews. Born in 1921 in Motherwell, Scotland. She was a veteran of the Second World War where she enlisted as an ATS officer and met the love of her life and future husband. She came to Canada in 1952 and soon settled in the Waters Township. Martha was an active member of the Sons of Scotland, Caledonian Club, September Classic Choir, the Anglican Church and the Lively Legion Ladies Auxiliary. She was a familiar face to the residents of Lively as she spent many years working at Cochrane's and Walden Home Hardware, where she retired from in 1988. She will always be remembered for her sweet treats and love of singing and dancing. Heartfelt gratitude to the Staff of Meadowbrook and Extendicare for their care and compassion.
