HASLAM, Edward Robert (Ted) Sr. - Peacefully on Friday, January 13, 2006 in his 87th year. Beloved husband of the late Esther (1994); loving father of Pam (Marcel) Larabie, Duncan, Vernon, Patti (Rick) Chevers, Mike (Michele) McKay, Donna (Rob) MacDonald and Ted Jr. (Kelly); loving Papa to his many grandchildren, great- grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Beloved companion of Lois Anderson. Survived by his brother Jack and sisters Helen Greves and Betty Johnson. Predeceased by brothers Edgar, Bill, Albert and sister Irene and his parents Edgar and Ellen. Ted was well known and respected in the trucking industry, he drove as an owner-operator for the better part of 60 years for companies such as Fruitbelt, Tallman & Baker to name just a few, not retiring until he was 75 years old. He was a Veteran of WWII, reaching the rank of sergeant as a motorcycle dispatch rider while overseas between 1939-1945. Dad will always be remembered as an honest hardworking man leaving behind a wide circle of friends and acquaintances acquired during his many years in the St. Catharines area. His strength of character and sense of humour will be sorely missed by all. JACKSON, Dianthe Jean - at the St. Catharines General Hospital January 13, following surgery and after a valiant battle with cancer. Mrs. Jackson was predeceased by her husband Frank and also by her parents, Rev. Dr. W.A. and Marion Young of Guelph. She is survived by a daughter, Cynthia McCarthy (Rob) of Kincardine and Toronto; a son, Thomas (Shelley Stuart) McCarthy of Caledon East; James McCarthy of Toronto, two grandchildren, Justin and Stephanie of Toronto; sisters Ruth Hopper of Toronto, Nora (Neil) Stoskopf of Guelph; Patricia (Glen) Wittur of Kelowna, B.C. and Joan (John) McGuinness of Ottawa. Mrs. Jackson was an elementary school teacher with the former Lincoln County Board of Education, and served at Connaught Public School, W.J. Robertson and Sheridan Park School. Cremation. Harold Smith after a courageous battle with lung disease at the age of 80. Son of the late Herbert Smith and Eva Florent. Loving devoted husband and best friend of Cecilia (Ritchie). CIUREANU, Petru, PhD, Senior Research Scientist (Ecole Polytechnique Montreal), Senior Member of IEEE. (1945-2006). Passed away on January 11, 2006 after a long and brave battle with death. He was an exceptional researcher, recognized as an expert in magnetism and magnetic recording, with an outstanding record of scientific publications. He will be missed forever by his beloved wife Mariana, as well as by his students and friends. FINEBERG, Lewis. (1916 - 2006) Passed away in Toronto on January 11. Predeceased by his dear wife Esther (Wiseman), and sister Eva Levin, and survived by his children Barbara Singer (Bruce Singer), Bernice Fineberg (Steven Pinchuk), and Stephen Fineberg (Gisele); and his grandchildren Martin (Anu), Eric, Michael, and Anna; his brother Alec and sister-in-law Audrey, and his brother-in-law Stanley Levin; and nieces and nephews. Lew was honest, responsible, candid, practical, outgoing, and an ardent athlete. He was without pretension. He was not one to dwell on life's difficulties. Over the years he embarked on a succession of pastimes with zeal, his latest enthusiasm being calligraphy. Despite Lew's rapid decline since the summer, mercifully, he was spared the worst sorts of incapacity and suffering which can accompany extreme age and broken health. The end came peacefully, just hours after a pleasant visit with family. During his final months he often pronounced himself fully satisfied with the complete life he had enjoyed. He approached death with no qualms. In keeping with his wishes, there will be no service. MILLAR, Marion (Robertson). 1934 - 2006. At home on January 10, 2006 with Robert, her husband of nearly forty-five years, by her side. Marion is pre-deceased by her mother Bertha, her father Arthur, her brother Alex and her baby sister Hazel. Besides her husband, she is mourned by her sisters Bertie, Heathel and Edith of Montreal and brother Malcolm of Clinton, B.C. Special thanks to all the doctors, nurses and support staff (Hope & Cope) of the Jewish General Hospital whose caring skills and compassion supported Marion in her five year battle with throat cancer, especially Drs. M. Black and M. Heir and the head and neck surgery team, Dr. David Melnychuk and the "angels" of out-patient oncology, Tracy, Marie-France, Maria, Lucy and Robin. A very special thank you to nurse Carole Cormier and the staff of the CLSC Samuel de Champlain, who made Marion's desire to die in her own bed, at home, a reality. HORWITZ, Ida Ida Horwitz of Calgary passed away peacefully on Friday, January 13, 2006 at the age of 94 years. Ida and her husband Cecil were one of the original founders of the Beth Israel Synagogue. She was one of the first presidents of the B.I. Sisterhood and an active member of the Jewish Community. Ida was a very creative, insightful and energetic woman, who never sat idle. Many admired her artistic needlepoint works. Ida had an amazing spirit and was a kind, caring person that loved her family and friends. Ida is survived by her brother Hymie (Celia) Baltzan; her sons and daughters-in-law, Joel and Siona and Marvin and Linda; as well as special family members, Elliott and Minnie Zuckier, and David Burger; grandchildren, Howard (Aviva), Carolyn (Geoff), Alissia (Michael), Cecil (Erin), and Danielle (Jason); and five great-grandchildren. Ida was predeceased by her husband Cecil; daughter Frances; and sister Katie (Jack) Saslow. RAITA, John (Jussi) February 5, 1944 - January 11, 2006 John was tragically taken on January 11, 2006, at the age of 61 years. He is survived by Beth Burne, his best friend and companion of sixteen years; daughter Mirja and son Erkki, both of Ontario. He also leaves behind three granddaughters, Kelly, Lynn, and Jennifer, also of Ontario. John was born in Finland and came to Canada with his mother and settled in the Toronto area. He eventually moved to the Calgary area, and two years ago, he and Beth moved to Strathmore. Even though the last few years were plagued with ill health, John continued to enjoy his hunting and fishing with his dog Jake. By request, no Funeral Services will be held. BLACKWELL, Theodore William "Ted" We regret to announce the passing of Theodore William "Ted" Blackwell, 93 which occurred Sunday January 8, 2006 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney. Born in Finland, he was the son of the late William and Sophia Tenhonen. Ted was employed for 25 years with the Ontario Government until retiring in 1975. BIGRAS, Aurèle 1924 - 2006 À Deux-Montagnes, le 13 janvier 2006, dans sa 81e année, est décédé M. Aurèle Bigras, époux de Suzette Papineau. Outre son épouse, il laisse ses enfants Jean Pierre, Hélène (Gilles Forget), Jacques (Christiane Lajeunesse), Anne Marie (Christian Simard), Francine (Robert Desrochers), Martin (Shelley Larente), ses 7 petits-enfants, frères et soeurs, beaux-frères, belles-soeurs, neveux, nièces, cousins, cousines et de nombreux amis. Guy Bienvenue A u CHUL du CHUQ, le 9 janvier 2006, à l’âge de 83 ans, est décédé monsieur Guy Bienvenue, ancien combattant de la marine, conjoint de dame Ghyslaine Pilote. Il demeurait à Charny, autrefois de Fossambault-sur-le-Lac. La famille demande à tous ceux et celles qui l’ont connu, d’avoir une bonne pensée ou une prière en sa mémoire, puisque selon ses volontés, aucune cérémonie ne sera célébrée. Il a été confié à la maison WILBROD ROBERT & FILS « Une Maison familiale » 738, av. Royale, Beauport I l laisse dans le deuil, outre sa conjointe, ses enfants: Guillaume (Valérie Parent) et Guilaine (Mathieu Catafago); ses petits-enfants: William et Mathias; ses soeurs: Françoise, Jacqueline (feu St-Georges Côté) et Suzanne (Jos Armater); ses beaux-frères et belles-soeurs de la famille Pilote: Ghislain (Chantal), Lise (Bernard Gauthier), Rosanne (André Gauthier), Claude (Blanche), Denis (Murielle), Sylvain (Jacynthe), Normand et Laurent ainsi que plusieurs neveux, nièces, cousins, cousines et ami(e)s.
