FARQUHARSON, Don With fortitude and dignity he fought a stoic battle with cancer. Don died peacefully at home January 5th, 2006 with his family at his side. Although his illness has been quietly ravaging his body, cancer could not destroy his spirit and inner strength. He lived his life with compassion for others and unselfish devotion to his family whom he loved unconditionally. Don exuded an inner strength and belief so powerful it carried and will continue to carry his family throughout this difficult time. Beloved husband of 45 years to Helen, (nee Corrigan). Devoted father to Scott, (Tania), Douglas, (pre-deceased), Susan, (Todd) and Jennifer, (Mike). Cherished Grandfather of Eamonn, Brenna, Katie, Shannon, Jake, Layne and Bailey. Dear son of Alexander, (pre-deceased) and Iona Farquharson of Sudbury. Loving brother of Brenda, (Harold pre-deceased), Connie, (Joe), and Heather, (Ted). Sadly missed by nieces, nephews, friends and colleagues. He had been a member of the Sudbury Yacht Club for several years and formed many closed friendships among the sailing community. Don always loved a good conversation and was not shy to share his point of view. He was also a founding member of the City of Greater Sudbury Police Pipe Band. He had been piping for over 40 years and shared his great love of the genre with others. FENWICK, Stanley Edward Joseph Major (Ret'd. RCASC, CF, CD2) On January 5th, 2006 at the Queensway Carleton Hospital in his 75th year. Beloved husband of Dol Mary Winsor (nee Cottee). Predeceased by his father Ernest Stanley Fenwick and mother Helene Bernadette Fenwick (nee St. Amand) and survived by his sister Helene Taylor (nee Fenwick) of Hamilton, On. He will be sadly missed by brothers-in-law, John Cottee (Carmen) of Ottawa, Lorne Cottee of Ottawa, Roy Cottee (Margot) of Ottawa and Norman Cottee (Vicki) of Edmonton, as well as a number of nephews and nieces in New Brunswick, Ontario, Alberta and British Columbia. Stan spent 32 years in the Armed Forces, serving overseas in Indo, China, (Laos, Cambodia, South and North Vietnam), Germany and Turkey. On retirement from the Canadian Forces he served for ten years with the RCMP as a civilian Human Resources Officer. Stan was a past president of the Ottawa Personnel Association and past Vice-President of International House. He was involved in local musical theatre as a producer with The Company of Musical Theatre, Orpheus Musical Theatre Society and Goya Productions. Stan was born in Toronto, Ontario and first came to Ottawa in 1950 after which he spent considerable time in the Far East, Middle East and Europe always returning to Ottawa which was his favourite city. Stan was a sports enthusiast, playing football, hockey, floor hockey, basketball and baseball through school. He played on various Army teams over the years, basketball, baseball, hockey, etc. After coming to Ottawa he played football in the Ottawa Intermediate League for New Edinburgh (Champions 1951), Ottawa South Broomball League and with the Army basketball team in the YMCA League. A Celebration of Stan's life will be held on January 14th, 2006 at Knox United Church (25 Gibbard Ave.) at 1:30 p.m. After the service a reception will be held in the Church basement. In lieu of flowers donations to the Queensway Carleton Hospital, the Ottawa Heart Institute, the Diabetes Association, the Knox United Church or Orpheus Musical Theatre Society would be appreciated. OBITUARY MABEL ELIZABETH POTTER (nee MARTIN) On January 5, 2006 at Glenwarren Lodge, Victoria, B.C. after a long and full life that began in Montreal ninety-three years ago. Mabel, pre-deceased by Ron, her beloved husband of sixty-three years, is survived by her children Diane (Paul), Nelson (Shirley) and Doris; grandsons Carl (Caroline), Eric (Debra), Glenn (Melissa), Shawn (Adriana) and Michael (Julie); and great-granddaughters Emilie and Catherine. Sister to Emma (Vi) and Doris, pre-deceased by brothers Frank, Fred, and Albert, and by sister Alberta. After a stenographic and office secretary career, she married in 1942 and raised her family. She will be remembered for her talent in both art and in writing poetry. She produced beautiful artwork done with pastels and self-published a collection of her poems. Her creative abilities also extended to music as she played piano, organ, and mandolin among other instruments. In her younger days, she was also noted for her skill on the tennis court. She leaves many legacies to her beloved children and grandchildren - her love of art and culture; her compassion towards animals; and her many years of devoted volunteering after moving to Victoria in 1980. Heartfelt thanks go to the staff at the Glenwarren Lodge for their loving care. Loving father of Sinead and Alysh who he shared with their caring mother Frances Boden. Il était l’époux en premières noces de feu Lucie Thériault, décédée en 1977, mère de ses 12 enfants et en deuxièmes noces de feu Maria Dugas, décédée en 1999. Il était fils de feu Charles Godin et de feu Sarah-Anne Landry.
