CHERNIAK, Vivien Joyce (Jackson) - Peacefully, with family at her side, at St. Catharines General Hospital on December 5, 2005 in her 75th year. Beloved wife of the late Eugene Cherniak. She will be sadly missed by her son, Michael, and daughter- in-law Gesine Cherniak of Beamsville, granddaughter Gillian Rodger of St. Catharines and daughter Elizabeth Cherniak and Paul Ruzycki of Sherkston. Dear sister to twin brother Ralph (Donna) Jackson of Beamsville and sister June (Grover) Seitzinger of Danville, Illinois. Vivien was born in Oshawa, Ontario in 1930. She will be remembered for her pioneering work establishing the first YWCA Women's Resource Centre in St. Catharines in 1970. KEYS, Arthur Suddenly at his residence on Sunday, December 4, 2005, J. Arthur Keys, age 81 of Sarnia, beloved husband of Jeanne Audrey (Cann) Keys for 57 years. Loved father of Susan Sparks and her husband Steve of Ottawa and Jim Keys and his wife Gail of Sarnia. Loving grandfather of Jennifer, Chris, Dan and Carolyn Sparks and Scott, Tyler and David Keys. Predeceased by his parents James and Alberta Keys and a sister Gladys. Art was a retiree of Ethyl Corporation and enjoyed a second career as a driving instructor. He had a lifetime love of flying and gardening and was a member of Central Baptist Church where he sang in the choir for many years. YERXA, DANIEL (DAN) The passing of Daniel (Dan) Albert Yerxa, husband of Elaine (Milligan) Yerxa, of Keswick Ridge, NB, occurred on December 5, 2005 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital. Born on July 10, 1948 in Keswick, NB, he was a son of Albert Melbourne and the late Violet Edna Helen Yerxa. Dan was a member of the Keswick Baptist Church and of the Draft Horse Association. He loved spending time with his family, especially his children and grandchildren. Besides Dan's family, his passion was horses, he enjoyed spending time in the barn with his horses. Besides his father, he is survived by two sons, Billy Yerxa (Heather) of Grand Prairie, AB and Kipper Doucette of Keswick, NB; two daughters, Tanya Thatcher (Clint) of Drayton Valley, AB and Marie Chartrand (Bobby Cammack) of Scotch Lake, NB; eight grandchildren, Caitlin, Curtis, Lauren, Rebecca, Cameron Daniel, Abby, Darren and Marcey; three sisters, Sylvia Sharpe (Harold) of Keswick, NB, Annis Sharpe (Elwood) of Scotch Settlement and Marie MacPhee (John) of Keswick, NB; two uncles, Bud Yerxa (Shirley) of Keswick and Guy Yerxa (Jean) of Fredericton; one aunt, Tete Taylor of Bear River, NS; several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his mother, he was predeceased by his step-son, Phillip Dykeman and his infant brother, Dellas Yerxa. Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 pm. A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, December 8, 2005 at 2 pm from Keswick Baptist Church, with Rev. Jonathan MacKay officiating, assisted by his nephew, Pastor of Worship Gary Sharpe. BOGLE, Ina Dell. (1916-2005) Born in New Brunswick. Passed away December 4, 2005 at the age of eighty-nine. Survived by daughter Diane Dean of Vermont US, two brothers Basil and Arthur NB, three sisters Phebe NB, Josephine Downs BC, and Marion Lanktree Ont., also many nieces and nephews, especially Stephen Lanktree (Amy) Ont. Ina served overseas with CWAC during World War II. Upon returning, settled in Verdun, then Lasalle, QC. She was an active member of Verdun United Church and UCW being awarded a lifetime member. She helped organize Mana Food Bank of Verdun and was an active volunteer until her illness. Diane, Marion and Stephen would like to extend a special thank you to Beverley and Brucille McKay, Mary Brown and Irene Ladouceur for the devotion, compassion and kindness to Ina during her illness. The post-war growth and flourishment of the Montreal Jewish Community is indelibly bound up with the extra-ordinary life and achievements of Mr. Frankel. He will be deeply mourned by many. Mr. Frankel is survived by his loving family - his cherished wife and life's partner Clara, and devoted children George, Suzie and Judy with their spouses; his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. OBITUARY DONALD ERIC RUFH December 13, 1931 - December 3, 2005 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Donald Eric Rufh on December 3, 2005. After a short, courageous battle with leukemia, Donald drifted off to sleep surrounded by his loved ones. He was born on December 13, 1931 in Montreal, Quebec and grew up in Greenfield Park. In 1947 he started his trade at the Montreal Star as a linotype machinist and later worked at The Monitor and Montreal Gazette before heading out west to Victoria. Don-Don worked for 17 years at the Times Colonist in the mailroom until retiring in 1996. He loved his winters in Arizona where he thought he was in heaven golfing 6 days a week at The Fountain of the Sun. He was also a member of Prospect Lake in Victoria. He loved making wine, playing golf and making sure the newspaper got out on time even after he retired. He had a great sense of humour and a big heart and enjoyed helping his family, friends and neighbours whenever needed. Donald was predeceased by his mother Pearl and father Chester Sr., sister Marion and brother Chester Jr. He is survived by his loving wife and best friend of 49 years, Patricia; three sons, Stephen (Brenda), Gordon (Genny) and John (Shanda); sister Irma; brother Carl (Shirley) and sister-in-law Elsie; and six grandchildren, Matthew, Daniel, Courtney, Stephanie, Ryan and Kaitlyn. He will be dearly missed by his family, which includes many cousins, nieces, nephews as well as his many dear friends. Donald loved and cherished each of his relationships and made new friends everywhere he went. A celebration of Donald's life will be on Friday, December 9 at 2 p.m. held at St. Mary's Anglican Church, 1973 Cultra Avenue, Saanichton, B.C. (one block south of the Prairie Inn). GIROUARD, Desiree Amelie Peacefully at her residence in Sandy Hill, on Friday, December 2, 2005, following a brief illness. She was born 2 August 1910, in Smiths Falls, Ontario, elder daughter of Rene Arthur de la Bruere Girouard and Katharine Mary Grant. She is predeceased by her parents and her brother Rene, and survived by her beloved sister Katharine Esmee Grant Girouard, St Vincent Hospital, Ottawa, and many cousins and friends. A resident of Sandy Hill for over 80 years, she worked at various times for the British Embassy, the R.C.M.P., The Aviation Museum and the National Gallery. As well she supported many charities and maintained a lively interest in her community. Funeral arrangements to be completed. Spring interment, Elmwood Cemetery, Perth in the family plot. Flowers gratefully declined, but memorial donations may be made to St. Alban's Church, Ottawa, Saint Vincent Hospital, 60 Cambridge Avenue North, K1R 7A5, or to a charity of your choice. MARTIN, Gertrude Ann (Nee Burke) 1909-2005 Now at rest after an active life of 96 years. Beloved wife for 49 years of Lt/Col Percival Cornell Martin (Retired). Predeceased by parents Malina and Austin Burke and her siblings Molly, Dorothy, Lewis, Gordon, Weldon and Edwin. Survived by her sister-in-law Odette (Edwin) Burke and her life long friend Connie Hague. Aunt Gertrude will be forever remembered and forever loved by her many nieces and nephews. Gertrude's career included long years at Veteran's Affairs as executive assistant to Deputy Minsiters. Retired in 1960 to join her husband in Africa in the former Belgian Congo, then later in Tanzania. Gertrude had been an actress in the "Ottawa Little Theatre" where she played a lot of major roles. An ardent golfer at the Ottawa Hunt and Royal Ottawa golf courses for more than 60 years. McCULLAGH, Lieutenant George Frederick (RCOC retired) Passed away peacefully and with dignity Friday, December 2, 2005 at University Hospital in his 86th year. Predeceased by Peggy, his loving wife of 42 years. He will be sadly missed by loving daughter Heather, son-in-law Lieutenant-General (retired) Fred Sutherland, grandsons Lieutenant-Commander Chris (Alana) and Lieutenant Rob (Diane) and great-grandson Keiren, the final great joy of his life. Will also be sadly missed by Steve, April, Jordy, Carissa and Megan Bell and his dear friend Isabelle McFarlane and family. Fred was born and raised in Carleton Place, Ontario. He joined the Royal Hamilton Light Infantry at the outset of World War II and later transferred to the Royal Canadian Ordnance Corps. He fought with distinction in both Italy and Europe and returned to Canada a decorated veteran. Following the War, he continued to serve his country in the Army, including a peacekeeping tour in the Gaza Strip. Following retirement from the Army in 1965 he returned to London and joined the London Fire Department, in which he served for 14 years. He was a lifetime member of St. Georges' Masonic Logde No. 42 and The Victory (317) Branch of the Royal Canadian Legion. The family wishes to acknowledge, with deep gratitude, the wonderful care provided to Fred by the staff at The Waverley Mansion for the past three and a half years. Also to Dr. Keith Ferguson and the dedicated nursing staff of the Medical and Palliative Care Ward at University Hospital for their wonderfull support to Fred, and to his family in the final days. The family will receive friends and relatives at Forest Lawn Memorial Chapel, 1997 Dundas Street East (at Wavell), London, for a Memorial Service on Friday, December 9, 2005 at 2 p.m. Visitation one hour prior to service.
