Marka (nee Fontaine), Lorraine A., beloved Wife, Mother, grandmother, dear Friend - Age 73, passed away peacefully October 15, from Alzeheimers. Lorraine was a hospitable person who loved to bake including 8,000 cookies at Christmas time and over 70 pies at a time. Switchboard operator for First Bank and other companies. Also employed at Foreman and Clark. Preceded in death by husband, Norman, infant daughter, Carol Ann (Christmas Carole) and sister, Dorothy. Survived by children, Janice (Randy Harrison) Marka and Kurt (Dawn) Marka; grandchildren, Natalie Harrison, Andrew, Jacob, Nicholas and Jordan Marka; sisters, Marion, Aurore and Rose Mary; brother, George and by other relatives and friends. Visitation Thursday 5-8PM, with parish prayers 7PM at BRADSHAW, 1078 Rice Street at Magnolia. Mass of Christian Burial Friday 10AM at the CHURCH OF SAINT JEROME, 380 East Roselawn. DuCHARME, G. Richard - Of Flint, age 84, died Monday, October 17, 2005 at Fostrian Manor. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10AM Thursday, October 20, 2005 at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, 1227 East Bristol Road in Burton, Father William F. Wegher officiating. Burial in New Calvary Catholic Cemetery. Those desiring may make contributions to Right to Life or the North End Soup Kitchen. Visitation 6-9PM Tuesday, 2-4 and 6-9PM Wednesday at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road. A vigil service will be held at 7PM Wednesday evening immediately followed by a memorial service conducted by the Knights of Columbus Father L.P. Gauther Council #10170 at the funeral home. Mr. DuCharme will be at the church from 9AM Thursday until the time of the Mass. He was born in Marenisco, Michigan on May 12, 1921 and was a resident of Flint, Rochester Hills and Mundy Township. He married Louise Czerny on May 15, 1943 at All Saints Catholic Church in Flint. He was a graduate of St. Mary's Grade School, St. Mary's High School in 1939 and GMI in 1943. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was discharged in 1946. Mr. DuCharme was employed by General Motors, Fisher Body Division for 42 years, retiring in June, 1981 as an Administrative Engineer. He was a member of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Burton. St. Ireneaus Catholic Church in Rochester Hills, St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Flint; Knights of Columbus Father L.P. Gauther Council #10170 in Burton and Kettering/GMI Alumni Association. He was a volunteer at the North End Soup Kitchen. Surviving are sons, Richard and wife Mary Ann of Davison, Robert and wife Kathie of Lafayette, Indiana and Thomas of Rochester Hills, Michigan; daughters, Mary DuCharme and husband Steve Smith of Gregory, Michigan, Janet and husband Ken Fraley of Vero Beach, Florida; 13 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Louise DuCharme; parents, Lige James and Hermenie Annie (McMoran) DuCharme; brothers, Norman, Theodore, William, Jacobus, Joseph and James; sisters, Claudia Basney, Valerie Lafever, Herminie (Sr. Amadeus S.S.J.) and Agnes Carskie.Published in the Flint Journal on 10/18/2005.

KATHERINE “Kay” DRAPEAU Age 82, of Lake Worth, FL, passed away on October 14, 2005. Mrs. Drapeau retired from the Davidson Clinic and was a Eucharistic Minister and member of the CCW at St. Luke Catholic Church. She was predeceased by her husband, Albert. She will be lovingly remembered by her devoted children: Ann (Edward) Daum of Lake Worth, Carol (Daryl) Williams of Metter, GA, John (Micki) Drapeau of Lake Worth and Richard (Sharron) Drapeau of East Hampton, CT; as well as 12 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren. Also, sisters, Theresa Franey and Elizabeth McGee; and brother, Frank Conrad. A Memorial Service will be offered at St. Luke's Catholic Church, Lake Worth on Friday, October 21 at 10:30 AM. Internment will take place at the family's convenience in the Florida Veteran's Cemetery in Bushnell, FL. Emile J. Fontaine 58 of 45 Ballou St. Cumberland died Sunday in Landmark Medical Center in Woonsocket. He was the husband of Jeannine (Bell) Fontaine. Mr. Fontaine was born in Woonsocket a son of Helen (Blais) Fontaine of Burrillville and the late Adelard Fontaine. Mr. Fontaine was a shipper and receiver for the Northrup Co. in Norwood MA for twenty years before retiring nine years ago. Besides his wife he is survived by a son Steven Fontaine of Dallas TX. and a daughter Jennifer Riquier of Cumberland, two brothers Robert Fontaine of Cumberland and Gerard Fontaine of Cranston, and two grandchildren. His funeral will be held Wednesday at 9:00 from the Fournier & Fournier Funeral Home, 99 Cumberland St. with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 in St. Anthony’s Church Greene St. Woonsocket. Bruial will be held in St. Jean Baptiste Cemetrey in Bellingham.

John Edgar Thompson September 28, 1925 - October 05, 2005 Funeral arrangements by Sands Funeral Chapel (Duncan) Remembered, with love, by his wife of 56 years, Shirley (nee Carruthers), and by his children, Peggy Thompson (& Saeko Usukawa), Peter (& Elizabeth), Ann (& Bill Dickie) and Kathleen (& Bruce Brown), his sister Jane (& Colin MacCallum), and by his grandchildren (of whom he was very proud): Stephanie & Sheila Dickie; Michael, Andrew & Katherine Thompson; and his namesake, John Thompson Brown. Born and raised in Kerrisdale, Vancouver, to E. Cedric B. & Florence C. (McClung) Thompson, Dad attended Point Grey Jr. High & Magee High school. With his mother, sister, and great-aunts, Clara & Margaret McClung, he spent many idyllic summers at Halfmoon Bay, Redroofs, & Crescent Beach. He especially enjoyed his sailboat, the “Sinkeasy”. After the war and a two-year stint with the RCAF and the CAC, he met & fell in love with & married Mom. He spent many years at A.G.Carruthers Ltd (Wholesale Jewelers) until the company was ultimately sold. Dad then spent the next 26 years working as Divisional Accountant for Kelly Douglas & Co. (Western Commodities, Asian food imports). In 1977 he moved with his wife & love, Shirley, to Thetis Island to build their home. For 10 years while living on Thetis he was accountant for Thermo-proof Mfg. Dad was also on the Islands Trust’s Board of Variance for 18 years. He enjoyed his years with the Trust, as it took him to many of the islands and kept him involved in negotiation and resolutions. He also found time to help create the Thetis Island Community Association, being the original treasurer for both TICA and the Health & Education Fund. His extended family, friends and business associates will fondly remember him. His proudest achievement of all was his family, raising us in a large house not far from the one he was born in. Our house on 35th & Balaclava St. always had room for one or two more. He & Mom welcomed all our friends and made our home the center of many friendships. He was a very involved father, teaching us all to ski, fish, sail, and hike and especially, to enjoy our times together. Dad was a life-long caregiver in the purest sense. He was noted for his wry sense of humour and wicked wit, and was fond of saying, “You pay the price and you take your chances.” Dad enjoyed his animals, model trains, skiing, sailing, racquet sports & the outdoors. He was an avid reader & loved history. Most of all, he loved his family and enjoyed big family dinners filled with laughter, friendship, and good food. A memorial gathering will be held on Thetis Island on Nov. 5 at 2 PM at Overbury, with a private interment at St Margaret’s Cemetery, Thetis Island. I miss the big kids but everyday when I see the excited smiles and little backpacks your presence flows throughout the classroom and I am in awe that all these little beings are alive and thriving. I miss you every day and once in awhile I still let myself embrace the hurt in order to acknowledge that accepting your death is the only way to see that my life is exactly as it was meant to be. LEWISTON - Jeannette Godin Albert of Oak Street, died peacefully on Oct. 13.She was born in Wallagrass on March 30, 1927, the daughter of Paul and Laura Pelletier.She worked in shoe shops for most of her life.She enjoyed playing cards with her children and her friend at Oak Street Park. SPRINGFIELD - Leon H. "Lee" Parent, 90, of the Hungry Hill Section of Springfield died on Sunday October 16, 2005 at the Heritage Hall West Nursing Home in Agawam. He was employed for 30 years as a firefighter with the Springfield Fire Department and retired in 1977. Leon was born in West Springfield on August 30, 1915 a son of the late Oscar and Catherine (Ward) Parent and was a graduate of Cathedral High School in Springfield. He served his country during World War II in the United States Army with the Headquarters Company 812th Tank Battalion and attained the rank of Private First Class. He received the Good Conduct Medal, the World War II Victory Medal, and the American Theater Campaign Ribbon. Leon was a communicant and longtime usher of Our Lady of Hope Church in Springfield, a member of the West Springfield Knights of Columbus Post # 2212, and a member of the Massachusetts Retired Police and Firefighters Association. Leon had also worked as a school bus driver for 18 years with the Springfield School System and was employed at the Sampson Family Chapels in Springfield. He was predeceased by his wife, Mary E. (McCarthy) Parent who died on January 1, 2000. Leon leaves his children, Linda L. Brancic and her husband Aleksandar of West Springfield, James L. Parent and his wife Myra of Springfield, and Joanne M. Surprise and her husband Kevin of East Longmeadow; his grandchildren, Mark, Deborah, and Elizabeth Brancic, James Parent, Megan Haines, and Andrew and Daniel Surprise; his brothers, Joseph Parent and his wife Mildred of Springfield, Harold Parent and his wife Barbara of Florida, and Thomas Parent and his wife Eleanor of Pembroke, NH; his sister, Marie J. Robert Goulet, 75, of East Hartford, husband of Yvette (LeClair) Goulet, tragically passed away Saturday, (October 15, 2005) while assisting fellow friends at his summer home in Stafford. Bob was born August 25, 1930, in Biddeford, ME. He was the son of Oscar and Antoinette (Gagne) Goulet. With job opportunities in Connecticut Bob relocated with his wife Yvette. For the next 55 years Bob and Yvette lived and raised their four children in East Hartford. Robert was a man of generosity, passion, and love. Robert served over 50 years in the Local #478 as a crane and heavy machine operator. His family and helping others was his passion in life. In addition to helping his son-in-law at M&M Electric after retiring, Bob volunteered his time to help fellow campers at Roaring Brook campground. Roaring Brook campground was like a second home to Bob, his generosity was felt by all. Robert leaves behind his wife of 55 years, Yvette Goulet, their two children, Debbie LaBelle, Robbie Goulet and son-in-law, Michael Martin. He also leaves behind four brothers: Ralph, Roland, Rene, Ray; and six sisters: Dolores, Francis, Teresa, Madeline, Larine and Rachel. WATTS, Lyle R.C.A.S.C., Veteran W.W. II Entered into rest peacefully at Kingston General Hospital on Friday, October 14, 2005, as the result of an injury at home. Lyle Watts of Mallorytown, Ontario, husband of the late Lorraine Watts ("Billie" Purtel l) in his 89th year. Born in Kingston, the son of the late Stephen Watts and Laurenza Boyer. Predeceased by his brothers Albert, Bill and Russell and sisters Ethel, Minnie and Florrie. He will be sadly missed by his sisters-in-law, Mrs. Kay Watts, Ki ngston, Ontario, Mrs. Anne Purtell, Carleton Place, Ontario and his brother-in-law, Bob Purtell and his wife Mary Lou of Oshawa, Ontario. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Sadly missed by his many good friends in the Brockville and Mallorytow n area, as well as his special friend "Tom" the cat.
