Left to mourn his passing is his wife of 58 years, Josie; his children, Vivian (Tom Slater), Sharon (Jerry Busch), Maxine (Jerry Hebert), Michael and Tracy; his grandchildren, Robert, Chris, Allen, Kimberly, Wayne and Laura; and six great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Henriette Lesoway and brother Edward Cebeniak. Mr. Cyril Gwynne (Cy) Smith October 09, 1919 - October 14, 2005 Funeral arrangements by Glenwood Funeral Home On October 14, 2005 Mr. Cyril Gwynne Smith of Sherwood Park passed away peacefully at the age of 86. He is lovingly remembered and missed by his wife Emma, their six children; Hubert, Sandra (Don) Cox, Charmaine, Carson (Karen), Rocky (Crisann) and Gaylene, 11 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren, his son Gary McCallun, one sister Norma Andrew as well as numerous relatives and friends. ROTHENSEE, Klemens O. "Klem" In loving memory of Klemens O. "Klem" Rothensee, 75 years of Sudbury who passed away Sunday, October 16th, 2005 at the Sudbury Regional Hospital - St. Joseph's Health Center. Klemens was born May 10, 1930 in Neustadt, Germany. He arrived in Ottawa in 1952 & moved to Sudbury in April 1953. Klem (or "Four Corners" as his co-workers new him) enjoyed a career of 37 years starting in Garson as a Jack-Leg Miner, moving to various locations as Heavy Equipment Operator, Trainer, and ending as Hoistman at South Mine in September 1991. Active in the early years with the Steelworkers Union as well as Safety and Health. Klem was proclaimed "The Mayor of Wembley Dr." by his neighbors. You could always count on Klem for advice & direction, from gardening to home repairs. Klemens loved a good game of skat and enjoyed countless hours of watching hockey and wrestling. He had a real knack for cooking & passed that knowledge onto family & friends. You could always come home to a great bowl of Oppa's soup. He loved to eat & he loved to cook. His greatest joy was having his grandchildren around him. Beloved husband of Irma (Roster) Rothensee of Sudbury. Loving father of Dieter (wife Maria) and Monika (husband Gilles Beaulieu) both of Sudbury, Klaus (wife Terri) of Newmarket and Claudia (husband John Nixon) of Kitchener. HALLIDAY, Gwen (nee Preston), After a short and valiant battle with leukemia, passed away peacefully at home (of 89 years) while surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, October 16, 2005 in her 92nd year. Loving mother of Sharon (Stephen) Pullen a nd Bruce (Sarah) Halliday. Dear Grandma to Angela (Shawn) Carr, Wendi Halliday, Michael Carr and "Gee Gee" to Clayton and Shawnee Carr. Lovingly remembered by many nieces, nephews, sister in law Marg Preston and brothers in law Doug, Roy and Jack (An n) Halliday. Dearest friend to Nola Hill of Gravenhurst, Ontario. She will be lovingly missed by her loving pet and friend Maizie and Mayday the squirrel. Predeceased by her loving husband of 65 years Bert (March 2005), beloved grandson Blair Carr (2 003), loving nieces Margie Ward and Barb McClelland, and brothers Walter (Fern), Cy (Louise), Reg, Elmer (Nellie) and Norm (Hazel). Gwen was a very active volunteer at the St. Catharines General Hospital and she last worked in the gift shop 6 weeks a go. She also volunteered in the emergency room and palliative care units of the hospital. She received her Lifetime Achievement Award at the Royal York Hotel in Toronto for her many years of service. Gwen was universally loved by all she met, second mother to Joy, Sarah, Barb, Sharon K. and Denise, and will be remembered for her homemade cooking. She enjoyed travelling with her daughter, R.V. vacations in Florida with her family and was an avid Royal family and Blue Jays fan. Emile J. Fontaine 58 of 45 Ballou St. Cumberland died Sunday in Landmark Medical Center in Woonsocket. He was the husband of Jeannine (Bell) Fontaine. Courtney McNaught Funeral arrangements by Regina Funeral Home McNAUGHT, Courtney – We are devastated that Courtney Lynn passed away on October 16, after her courageous battle with cancer at the age of 14 years. She was peacefully surrounded by her family and friends. Courtney will be greatly missed by her mom and dad Connie and Brett; sister Breanne; brother Chase; grandparents Lynn and Brian Hagley, Lois and Ray McNaught; uncles Aaron and Rob; aunt Rhonda (Kelly); great grandmothers Grace, Gertrude, Gladys and Luella (Gigi) and numerous cousins and friends. She was predeceased by four great grandfathers Vern, Frank, Basil and Bert. Courtney was especially close to her cousins Justin and Cody. She was born an old soul who appreciated the simple things in life. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends and was an avid fan of T.V. game shows. “Hit Me Bob” was a favourite saying of hers and she dreamed of appearing on The Price Is Right. She loved going to school and was referred to by her teachers as a “Mother Hen” to her fellow students. Courtney was always putting others needs first and admired her teachers Ms. Toews and Ms. Campbell. Courtney had a contagious, memorable laugh that came all the way from her toes. Her gift as a natural-born nurturer made her more than just a big sister to Breanne and Chase. Courtney helped Breanne grow into the wonderful person she is. Breanne returned her love by always being by her side, especially during her battle with cancer. Courtney treasured her role as a second mother to Chase. It was not uncommon for Courtney to play with Chase for hours, loving every minute. Courtney had many friends but Sydney, Michelle and Megan were held closest to her heart. Sydney was Courtney’s lifelong friend and spent many hours with Courtney talking, laughing or just being silent. She had a very special individualized relationship with each grandparent and loved them all so much. Courtney loved helping her dad at work and he loved having his little friend with him. The two enjoyed playing many practical jokes on each other. Courtney cherished and adored her mother and was constantly willing to help her in any way. The two spent many hours together laughing, dreaming and living for the moment. Special thanks to the students and staff at Rosemont Community School for their gifts and support. Thanks also to the Hemodialysis Unit staff and patients as well as the staff and customers of Old Dutch Foods for their support and fundraising efforts. Words cannot express our gratitude to the doctors and nurses at the Pasqua Hospital for their tireless efforts, especially Dr. Haq, Dr. Klein and nurses Heather, Donna, Colleen and Barb. A warm thank you to the girls in the Radiation Dept. for their kindness, compassion and patience shown to Courtney. We are so fortunate to have the ongoing support and love of our many friends that have carried us through this fight, especially those closest to Courtney: Suzanne and Anthony, Lori and Scott. There are no words strong enough to thank our parents for their support, commitment, sacrifice and belief in our choices, not just recently but throughout our lives. We would like to thank Breanne and Chase for their understanding and hugs after the times spent apart from us while we helped Courtney fight her battle. Hilda Elnora Snedden March 28, 1907 - October 17, 2005 Funeral arrangements by Regina Funeral Home SNEDDEN, Hilda Elnora – It is with great sadness, but great memories that we announce the passing of Hilda Snedden, of Pioneer Village on Monday, October 17, 2005 at the age of 98 years with her family by her side. Mum was predeceased by her father, Charles Ripley; her mother Lillian Smith; her stepfather Charles Smith; husband Charles Snedden; brother Tom Ripley; sister-in-law Beth Ripley; brother-in-law Thor Halfso; sister-in-law Margaret Smith and nephew Norman Ripley. Hilda is survived by her daughter Lynn (Andy) Sieffert; sister Marj Halfso; brother Jim (Exilda) Smith; granddaughters Laurie (Vern) Ell and Terrie (Rick) Hoffman; great grandchildren Carrie (Brad), Kristy (Brandon), Brittany, Tanner; great great grandchildren Corbin and Sydney as well as her extended family Vern, Carla and Glenda and nieces and nephews. Mum was born in Antwerp, New York on March 28, 1907. When mum was 6 weeks old her family came and homesteaded outside of Ernfold, SK. Throughout her life she lived in many locations, including Assiniboia, Radisson, Kerrobert, Morse, Reno Nevada, Saskatoon and Regina. Mum attended Normal School in Saskatoon and began her teaching career at Charlotte, just outside of Ernfold. During this time she met Charlie Snedden who she married April 6, 1929. Ten years later their only child Lynn was born. Over the years mum had many triumphs and tragedies. Mum taught school in Ernfold for over 2 year when she and dad purchased the General Store, which they owned and operated for 52 years. In 1945, after they finished remodeling their home over the store and paying off their mortgage everything was lost to a fire – home and store. Not to be defeated they preserved and rebuilt and new store and house. This house has since been destroyed by a tornado. They sold the store in 1977 and 10 years later moved to Regina. Mum and dad were always very active in the community of Ernfold and enjoyed many, many friendships. They also loved to travel and saw most of the United States and Canada. Many of their holidays also included their two granddaughters. Mum loved to dance, play cards – particularly bridge, and belonged to many clubs such as Eastern Star, UCW, Cemetery Association, Bridge Club, Curling Club, Lioness Club as well as participating in all kinds of drama and fashion shows. Mum loved to dance – and spoke often of the Charleston as one of her favorites. Mum was young at heart and took extreme care of her appearance, always wearing the latest fashion and always looking younger than her years. Mum was very passionate about her family and had a special love for her two granddaughters Laurie and Terrie. As years passed she extended that love for her great grandchildren Carrie, Kristy, Brittany and Tanner and later still to her great great grandchildren Corbin and Sydney as well as her step-grandchildren Vern, Carla, Glenda and families. In November of 2000, Mum moved from her apartment in Palliser Place into Pioneer Village where she resided until her passing. The family would like to thank the nurses and caregivers of Pioneer Village who have looked after mum (Grandma) over the past 5 years, and in particular the staff of 2East. Your compassion and care has been truly appreciated. At Mum’s request, there will be a private family memorial with her final resting place at Ernfold, SK where she will join dad. SPRINGFIELD - Leon H. "Lee" Parent, 90, of the Hungry Hill Section of Springfield died on Sunday October 16, 2005 at the Heritage Hall West Nursing Home in Agawam. He was employed for 30 years as a firefighter with the Springfield Fire Department and retired in 1977. Leon was born in West Springfield on August 30, 1915 a son of the late Oscar and Catherine (Ward) Parent and was a graduate of Cathedral High School in Springfield. He served his country during World War II in the United States Army with the Headquarters Company 812th Tank Battalion and attained the rank of Private First Class. He received the Good Conduct Medal, the World War II Victory Medal, and the American Theater Campaign Ribbon. Leon was a communicant and longtime usher of Our Lady of Hope Church in Springfield, a member of the West Springfield Knights of Columbus Post # 2212, and a member of the Massachusetts Retired Police and Firefighters Association. Leon had also worked as a school bus driver for 18 years with the Springfield School System and was employed at the Sampson Family Chapels in Springfield. He was predeceased by his wife, Mary E. (McCarthy) Parent who died on January 1, 2000. Leon leaves his children, Linda L. Brancic and her husband Aleksandar of West Springfield, James L. Parent and his wife Myra of Springfield, and Joanne M. Surprise and her husband Kevin of East Longmeadow; his grandchildren, Mark, Deborah, and Elizabeth Brancic, James Parent, Megan Haines, and Andrew and Daniel Surprise; his brothers, Joseph Parent and his wife Mildred of Springfield, Harold Parent and his wife Barbara of Florida, and Thomas Parent and his wife Eleanor of Pembroke, NH; his sister, Marie J. Fleming and her husband Richard of Longmeadow; his brother in law, George McCarthy and his wife Ann of West Springfield; and his many nieces and nephews. Aloise was born to Knute and Edna Magnuson in Ballard WA and graduated from Ballard High School in 1945. She is survived by her husband of 53 years Milton; sons Guy (Debra), Brad (Vonnie), and Kurt; daughter Cheri (Meegan); brother Harold Magnuson (Jean); six grand children and 3 great-grand children. Aloise loved dancing, spending time with family and friends, creating holiday crafts and was a long standing member of the Saratoga Pinochle Club.
