Francis L. LaPlante, 70, husband of Theresa Sofia LaPlante, died Wednesday (October 12, 2005) at Hartford Hospital. Born April 14, 1935, in Hartford, he was the son of the late Francis LaPlante and Miriam Griffin LaPlante. He was a graduate of Goodwin Technical School in Hartford. Francis moved to Meriden in 1964 where he owned and operated the J & B Mason Contracting company until his retirement in 2005. He was a member of the Meriden Lodge of Elks for 27 years and attended St. Joseph Church. An avid sports enthusiast, Francis was a real New England fan whose favorite teams were the Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots. He was sad to see the Red Sox eliminated from the play offs this year but happy when the Yankees were too. Besides his beloved wife of 43 years Theresa, Mr. LaPlante leaves his loving family, Carl and Christine Ackley of Meriden; two grandchildren, Amy Ackley of Meriden and Lysa Arthur and her husband Edmund of Middletown; two special great grand children, Edmund and Dakota Arthur of Middletown; a sister and her husband, Lillian and Arthur Ballard of Santa Monica CA; three distant children and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister Patricia Healy. A memorial service will take place at the convenience of the family. There will be no calling hours. SANFORD - Aldas Augustin Carpentier, 90, of Sanford, died at his home on Oct. 12, 2005 after a brief battle with cancer. Aldas was born in Berwick on Aug. 1, 1915 a son of Leon and Valerie (Richer) Carpentier, attended local schools and was a lifelong resident. He was a communicant of Holy Family Church. In May of 1949, he married Julia Hamel and together they raised four daughters. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was honorably discharged in 1946. He was predeceased by his parents and a brother, Joseph Henri for whom Carpentier Park in Sanford was named as he was one of the first combat casualties of World War II from this area. Aldas and his brother Raymond visited his grave at the North African Cemetery in Tunisia in 1990. Aldas had a varied work career that included logging, mill work and helping in the construction of the Sanford Town Hall. He retired from Wasco Products in 1981. Aldas was not one to sit still in a rocking chair. After retirement he was instrumental in starting the Lavigne Strawberry Farm with Albert, Patrick and Alfred Lavigne. He eventually sold his interest in the farm but kept his 'little' garden of string beans, beets, cabbage, onions, carrots and squash at the field well tended. Aldas had other interests which included stamp collecting, photography, beekeeping, hunting and fishing. He was a life long recycler, long before it became mainstream. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Julia (Hamel) Carpentier of Sanford; four daughters, Rachel Carpentier of Sanford, Claire Cabana and her husband Paul also of Sanford, Denise Sillon and her husband Dennis of Shapleigh, and Vivian Carpentier of Sanford; four grandchildren, Steven Carpentier, Kristi Cochin, Andrew Durgin, and Ben Durgin; a godson, Brian Cabana; two brothers, Raymond Carpentier, and Andre Roger Carpentier, both of Sanford; sister, Pauline O'Connor of Brattleboro, Vt.; and by many cousins, nephews and nieces. Visiting hours will be held on Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Lafrance-Lambert & Black Funeral Home, 29 Winter St., Sanford. A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday at 9 a.m. in Holy Family Church. Burial will be in St. Ignatius Cemetery.

James Chiasson, 92, of Concord, died Wednesday, Oct. 12, 2005, at Concord Hospital. He was born April 28, 1913, in Lincoln, the son of Augustin and Mary (Gionet) Chiasson. He was a longtime resident of Plymouth, had lived in Florida for several years before moving back to Concord in 1993, where he lived until he moved to the Merrimack County Nursing Home in Boscawen in 2002. Jim, as his family and friends knew him, served his country during World War II with the U.S. Coast Guard and the Merchant Marines. He was a winner of the Golden Gloves in New York City, and at one time an amateur wrestler. He was married to Rose M. Macri on Aug. 9, 1946, in Newark, N.J. Jim worked for 37 years out of the Local 1996 Union Carpenters of Laconia, where he also served as president and the business agent. An avid outdoorsman who especially loved hunting and fishing, Jim was a member of the Sunset Club of Concord and the Fish and Game Club of Holderness, where he was the recipient of many awards. He also was a longtime member of the American Legion. His family members include his wife of 59 years, Rose (Macri) Chiasson of Concord; five sons, James Chase of Arizona, Harold Chiasson of California, Ronald Chiasson of Concord, Roger Chiasson of Ashland, and Carl Chiasson of Massachusetts; a daughter, Grace Miller of Pennsylvania; two brothers, Augustin Chiasson of New Jersey and Arthur Chiasson of Florida; a sister, Josephine Judkins of Colorado; many grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three brothers, Patrick Chiasson, Robert Chiasson and Dennis Chiasson; and four sisters, Rita Chiasson, Angelina Theriault, Emeline Heim and Irene Herbert. Robert E. Roy "Pat" died on October 4, 2005 at IHS Nursing Care Facility on Hackett Hill Road after a brief illness. His wife of 37 years, Theresa (Paquette) Roy, died in 1972 as well as a daughter, Pauline Beaulieu King, predeceased him in 2004.Members of his family are two daughters, Charlotte Charest of Londonderry N. H., Louise Dycke of Palm Coast FL; three sons-in-law, Paul Charest, Arthur Dycke, and Don King; eight grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. He was a long time communicant at St. George’s Church and is a member of the Legion of a Thousand Men at the Precious Blood Monastery. Mr. Roy with brothers was founder and owner of Roy Brothers Lunch on Bridge Street and on Hanover Street from 1928 to l955. He was also employed by the New Hampshire Insurance Group in the claims department for 18 years when he retired in 1975. He was also employed by the New Hampshire Jockey Club. In addition, he volunteered at Beaulieu’s Marketfor many years.Rob was an avid card player and a whiz at cribbage. He enjoyed his family, dancing, sports, the beach, and traveling. He was a blessing among friends and will be remembered for his friendliness and his great sense of humor to all who loved him. G. Kent Clark 1941 - 2005 Kent Clarke 64, of Riverview passed away at the Moncton Hospital on Thursday October 13, 2005 after a brief battle with cancer. Born in Summerside P.E.I, he was the son of Dorothy (Parkman) Clarke of Summerside and the Late George Clarke. Kent was a successful businessman and previous owner of Price Contractors and Magnetic Hill Golf & Country Club, member of St. George's Anglican Church. Kent was the recipient of the Chamber of Commerce Excellence Award (1990), Chamber of Commerce volunteer of the year (1992) and Certified Sommelier. He pursued many hobbies especially Salmon fishing.
