LAFAYETTE - Murphy Louis Guidry -- A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, Oct. 14, 2005, time pending, in La Chapelle de Martin & Castille for Murphy "M.L. Boust" Guidry.Mr. Guidry was born Sept. 21, 1915 and just celebrated his 90th birthday. He died peacefully at 10:35 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 11, 2005, at his residence due to a heart condition.Interment will be in St. Joseph Church Cemetery in Cecilia.Readings will be offered by Lovell Benoit. Servers will be Celeste Pontiff and Cheryl Segura.Musical selections, "The Old Rugged Cross", "Ave Maria", "Amazing Grace" and "I'll Never Pass This Way Again" will be performed by Jodi Bollich.Mr. Guidry, a native of Henderson, was a 1936 graduate of Cecilia High School. He was a veteran of World War II, serving four years with the U.S. Army in Europe. For two years of this term he was in combat.After serving his military time, he returned home where he was employed by the U.S. Postal Service in Cecilia for five years.Mr. Guidry had been a resident of Lafayette for the past 56 years.Retiring after 32 1/2 years of service with Gulf States Utilities (now Entergy) as a chief dispatcher.Mr. Guidry was an avid gardner, providing his family, friends and neighbors with cucumbers, tomatoes and lima beans. His passion was his love and care for pigeons which he raised and showed around Louisiana and Texas. He was a member of the Modina Club, the Racing Homers Club and the Homer Club, winning many awards and trophies for the best pigeons. He was also a member of the Big 25 Club which included trips to Mexico, Canada, Hawaii and 46 of the 50 United States. He also toured Europe during the restoration period.He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Ann Pontiff Guidry; two loving sons, Howard W. Pontiff and his wife, Celeste, of Henderson, and Louis Guidry and his wife, Betty, of Memphis, Tenn.; four grandchildren, Brian and Nathan Pontiff, of Lafayette, Toni P. Landry, of Broussard, and Mickey Howard Pontiff, of Henderson; eight great-grandchildren; and a host of godchildren.He was preceded in death by his parents, Gesner and Deha Kilchrist Guidry; his grandparents, Louis and Alana Guidry; one daughter, Lena Ann Guidry and one grandson, Nicholas Pontiff.The Guidry and Pontiff families want to express their deepest thanks to his neighbor, Jennifer Ann Stringfield, for her years of devotion to them. BROSSEAU, James R. -- Age 73, died on September 6, 2005, in Winter Haven, Florida, following complications of a stroke. He was born in Kalamazoo on February 16, 1932, to Robert S. and Rhea M. (Derhammer) Brosseau, both of whom have predeceased him. He relocated to Winter Haven in 1964, where he established an advertising company, Gator Promotions. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and was an avid pilot. Jim is survived by his wife, Doris (Shea) Brosseau, a daughter, Debra A. (Robert) Johnson, a son, Douglas R. Brosseau, four grandchildren and a sister, June (Duane) Avard, of Schoolcraft. Memorial services were held at the family residence, 2800 21st St. N.W., Winter Haven, on September 11. PLATTSBURGH -- George Joseph Ducharme peacefully passed away at home with his family around him at 7:02 a.m. on Oct. 12, 2005.He was born Sept. 10, 1928, in Plattsburgh, N.Y., the son of George Harry Ducharme and Daisy Pearl Wood, formerly of 108 Maple St., Rouses Point, N.Y.George graduated early from Rouses Point High School in January 1945. With World War II still in progress, he volunteered for military service and was assigned to the United States Navy Flight Training School in Georgia for training as a Naval Aviator. With the end of World War II, he was honorably discharged from the U.S. Navy and returned home to Rouses Point in January of 1946.He attended Canton Technical College and graduated two years later. He began work as a plumbing and heating technician with the M. A. Hardy Co., in Plattsburgh, N.Y. In 1950, the Korean War began. In 1951, George was drafted into the U.S. Army and attended basic training at Fort Dix, N.J., as an infantryman. Completing training, he was selected to serve as training cadre for about nine months after which he shipped out to Korea via San Francisco and Japan. He was assigned to Company D, 15th Regiment, 3rd Infantry Division. During his two-year tour of duty, he directly participated in extensive combat operations during his initial assignment to a heavy weapons platoon. By the end of his tour, he was selected as the Company First Sergeant, having been promoted from private to First Sergeant in less than two years. He was offered a battle field commission as a Lieutenant. He declined the commission, which would have required that he extend his tour in Korea, and returned home to Rouses Point in 1952.He resumed his employment with the M. A. Hardy Co.On Aug. 10, 1954, he married Jacquelyn Ann Jennings of Rouses Point, N.Y., and shortly thereafter began his own company, Ducharme's Plumbing and Heating. He ran the business with his wife for eighteen years. In 1970, while completing an undergraduate degree program at Oswego University, he began teaching plumbing and heating at the B.O.C.E.S. vocational trade school in Plattsburgh, N.Y. He taught at B.O.C.E.S. until 1984 when he joined the New York State prison system as a vocational education teacher. He taught at various correctional institutions in the Malone and Altona areas, standing up two new facilities, until retiring in 1990. During retirement, he served the next 10 years as the building code enforcement officer for the town of Champlain.George was an active member of the community. In 1960, he founded the Village of Rouses Point's Fourth of July celebrations, the largest celebration in the North Country at that time, which he coordinated for a total of 16 years. He founded the "Montgomery Rifles" precision marching and drill team and led them for almost four decades winning numerous competitions. The Montgomery Rifles also rendered military honors at innumerable individual military funerals and at local cemeteries commemorating Memorial Day. He served as Commander of American Legion Post 912 on seven separate occasions. At various times, he was chairman of the Republican Committee in the town of Champlain, a member of the Republican County Committee and a member of the Sportsmen's Club. He was a member of the St. Amadeus Catholic Church in Alburg, Vt.George was preceded in death by his beloved father and mother, George H. and Daisy; and his sister, Gertrude.He is survived by his wife, Jacquelyn; his four children, Lee, Cheryl, Darryl and Lisa; and his three grandchildren, Anthony, Devin and Amanda.A private family viewing is planned. Funeral services will be held at St. Amadeus Catholic Church at 11 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 14, 2005, followed by a military internment service at St. Patrick's Cemetery in Rouses Point, N.Y. FREDETTE -- Raymond O. Fredette, 84, died peacefully October 11, 2005, with his wife, Louise of 59 years at his side. Ray was born December 13, 1920 to Alfred and Azilde (Gagne) Fredette in Gardner, MA. He was one of 13 children. He is survived by six sons, Raymond Jr. and Francis of Camarillo, CA, Terry of Oxnard, CA, and Alfred of Merced, CA, and James and Jean-Paul of Albuquerque; and 17 grandchildren; and one great-grandson. Ray was a 28 year veteran of the U.S. Air Force, and 15 years with the U.S. Postal Service (retired 1984). He moved from Merced, CA to Albuquerque in May 2003. He was a long-time member of the St. Vincent dePaul Society and Knights of Columbus. He will be buried at Santa Fe National Cemetery. Rosary will be held at St. Thomas Aquinas Church on October 15, 2005 at 10 a.m.; Funeral Mass will follow immediately at 10:30 a.m.

Mrs. R.T. Hamel Passed peacefully October 7, 2005 at the age of 97. R.T. was the beloved wife of the late Reverend Linel Hamel. R.T. was born on January 9, 1908, in Taft, Oklahoma. She was the youngest of ten children. R.T. was married to the late Reverend Linel Hamel for seventy-three years. R.T. lived in Redwood City and Palo Alto was a faithful member of the Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Redwood City for over fifty-six years. She was well known throughout the Redwood City and Palo Alto communities for her kindness, generosity and great cooking. R.T. was the mother of twelve children. R.T. leaves to cherish her precious memories: five children, three sons: Linel Hamel Jr. (Ollie) of Belmont, California; Dale Hamel (Mary) of Sunnyvale, California; Clarence Hamel Sr. (Charleen) of San Jose, California; two daughters, Bobbie Sue Melton (Robert) of Modesto, California; Betty Glass (Kenneth) of Palo Alto, California; three daughters-in-law, Lottie Mae Hamel of Zachary, Louisiana; Addie Hamel of San Jose, California; and Bessie Hamel of Menlo Park, California; four generations of grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and many friends. ROCHESTER — Armand F. Labrecque, 59, of 18A Dewey St., died Tuesday, Oct. 11, 2005, at the Wentworth-Douglas Hospital in Dover, N.H., after a sudden illness.He was born in Rochester, N.H., on May 26, 1946, the son of George "Jack" and Rita (Letourneau) Labrecque and had lived all of his life in Rochester. He served during the Vietnam War with the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Dale, and was a member of the American Legion in Rochester. He was a very loving father who was very close to his daughters and would do anything to help others. He had a big heart, and always brightened a room when he entered it, and had many friends who loved him. He enjoyed fishing, camping, and spending time at his favorite spot on the Kancamagus Highway in the White Mountains. He loved music and went to many concerts with Michelle.He leaves two daughters, Michelle Labrecque of Farmington, and Betty Lea Labrecque of Rochester; two brothers, Robert Labrecque of Dover, and Lionel Labrecque of Middleton; as well as several nieces. nephews and cousins.Visitation will be held at the H. J. Grondin & Son Funeral Home, 177 North Main St., Rochester, on Friday from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday at Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church in Rochester, with burial in Holy Rosary Cemetery at a later date. CHICOPEE - Connie (Rodgers) Laflamme passed away quietly after a short illness on Friday, October 7, 2005. She was seventy-nine years old. She was employed by Springfield Photo Mount until she left work to raise her children. Connie later worked at Olsten Kimberly Quality Care for 15 years, providing home health care and assistance to the elderly. Later in life, Connie was an avid baseball fan, especially the Boston Red Sox. She also enjoyed playing Scrabble. She is survived by her oldest son Steve of Chicopee. Her daughter, Peggy and her daughter's husband Ernie of Amherst and their daughter, Elizabeth, who is attending college in Olympia, Washington. Her youngest son, Marc, his wife Lynne and their two children, Kevin and Matthew of Granville. She leaves her sister, Claire Hinkle of Hampton, New Hampshire, her brother and his wife, Bob and Ellie Rodgers of Portland, Maine. She leaves many nieces and nephews including, Judy Desgres of Chicopee, Penny Goodman of Chicopee, and Gary Desgres of Charlemont. Burial will take place at eleven o'clock on Saturday, October 15th at St. Rose de Lima Cemetery, 49 Olsen St., Chicopee. Her family is very grateful to the Amherst Police and Fire Departments. Patricia A. Masse, 46, died peacefully at home on Oct. 10, 2005, surrounded by her loving family and friends after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Illinois, she later moved with her family to Torrance, Calif. She has lived in Apple Valley for the last 13 years. She enjoyed her job as a teacherÕs aid at Mesquite Elementary School and will be greatly missed by her students and the teachers. Patty was a kind, loving, creative person who was known for her generous and caring nature. She created strong traditions for her family and friends and lived her life to the fullest. GREENVILLE and BANGOR - Paul Eugene Adrian Rodrigue, 80, went to be the Lord, Oct. 11, 2005, at his home in Bangor. He was born Oct. 2, 1925, in St. Prosper, Quebec, Canada, the son of Gaudias and Derina Rodrigue. Paul served honorably with the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Baldock and the USS Houlton in the South Pacific and North Atlantic campaigns during World War II. He was predeceased by his wife of 48 years, Marion (Fogg) Rodrigue and leaves behind a very special friend, Rete. He is survived by three children, Ronald Rodrigue and his wife, Jocelyne, of Glenburn, Brenda Forbus and her husband, Donald and Loraine Breton, all of Tucson, Ariz.; six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; one brother, Lawrence Roderick and his wife, Barbara, of Greenville; and one sister, Patricia Morin and her husband, Adrian, of Dover-Foxcroft; several nieces and nephews. CORNWALL, Christine Edith Christine Edith Cornwall/ Struckett (nee George) of Red Deer, Alberta passed away peacefully with her daughters Ruth and Carol at her bedside in Red Deer, Alberta on October 6, 2005 at the age 88 years. Christine was born on October 19, 1916 in Folkestone, England and immigrated to Canada with her parents when she was five years old. She was raised in London, Ontario, attended and graduated from Sir Adam Beck Collegiate. In 1935, Christine married John Struckett and they had two daughters, Ruth (Clark) and Carol (Lavergne). Starting as a sales clerk for the Robert Simpson Company in London, Ontario, Christine entered the workforce in 1946. Always looking for a challenge, Christine joined Bell Telephone Company and trained as a mechanical draftsperson. Being a very meticulous and detailed person she soon became the drafting supervisor for the London office, which was a mean feat for a woman in her fifties. Christine then married William Cornwall in 1955 and after a few years they settled in Ottawa. By 1961, Christine had resumed her career in mechanical and electrical drafting and was employed by the Telecommunications Branch of the Department of Transport with the Canadian Federal Government. Christine took up golf and for several years was a very active participant in the Ottawa Uplands Golf Club. In the wintertime she was an avid curler and spent many hours at rinks and tournaments. After more than a decade in Ottawa, Christine applied for and became one of the first women drafting supervisors, with an all male staff, in the Telecommunications and Electronics branch of the Department of Transport. Along with this promotion, came a transfer to Toronto, Ontario in 1970. Having achieved the position of Planning Officer for Telecommunications, Ontario area, Department of Transport for the Federal Government, Christine retired in 1979. After retirement, Christine worked part time for Carol and Herb (in their vending business), did some traveling, visited her mother regularly in London, Ontario and also managed to maintain her own apartment and independent life style. Christine was an intelligent, quiet, strong-minded, independent woman; she was ahead of her time and the woman's movement for independence. Christine moved to Alberta in 1984 to join the rest of the family that had migrated to the area the year before. Christine was ever forgiving and empathetic with all her relatives and friends. She was kind, concerned, affectionate and generous to a fault, had a great sense of humor, was unconditional with her love, always supportive of the underdog. Throughout her lifetime, Christine kept busy with handwork, sewing and crafts but her most favorite pastime was reading English novels or mysteries. Christine broke both her legs in July 2000 and spent almost two years recuperating in hospital. She was determined to walk again and was able to regain her independence and walk with a walker by late 2002. Christine was predeceased by her mother Edyth George in 1986. Christine leaves to mourn her two daughters, Ruth (Bob) Clark of Lacombe, Carol (Herb) Lavergne of Red Deer, four grandchildren, Kim (Gary) Autet of Ponoka, Kelly (John) Harper of Ponoka, Steve (Laurie) Lavergne of Millet and Debbie (Steve) Allen of Rocky Mountain House. Also cherishing the memory of Christine are her twelve great grandchildren, Ryan, Jenna, Sarah and Leah Autet; Samantha, Sharlene, Rebekah and Jessica Harper; Courtney and Megan Lavergne; Scott and Amanda Allen. QUARTARO, MARGUERITE (LEMAIRE) CIRILLO, age 97, of 1014 Hope Street, Bristol died Tuesday at Grace Barker Nursing Center, Warren. She was the wife of the late E. Bernard Quartaro. Born in Bristol and a lifelong resident, she was a daughter of the late Edmund and Ella (Foster) Lemaire.She worked at the RI Veterans Home, Bristol for over 10 years, retiring in 2000 at age 92. She previously worked at the former Carr Fulflex Co., U.S. Rubber Co. and was a Home Health Care Worker for many years. She was a Communicant of St. Mary's Church, a member of the Emblem Club and the Sons of Italy, all in Bristol. She loved Knitting.She is survived by two sons, Ralph E. and Louis J. 'Chi-Chi' Cirillo both of Bristol, three step daughters, Marie Pettis, Cranston; Cynthia Brown, W. VA, and Jean Lopes, Warwick. Also survived by 6 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and a great great grandson. PORT ORANGE, Fla. -- J. Arthur Poitras, a Lowell native who had been the owner of a well-known shoe company in the Mill City for five decades, died Sunday, Sept. 11, at Port Orange Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was 94.He was born in Lowell and was educated in Chelmsford and Lowell schools. He moved to Port Orange in 1974.Before retiring, Mr. Poitras was the third-generation owner for 50 years of J. Arthur Poitras & Son Inc. in Lowell, where he was also an orthopedic shoe counselor. He began his involvement in the shoe business in 1925. The speciality orthopedic shoe business on Chelmsford Street is still being run by family members.For many years, he was a former member and lecturer of Immaculate Conception Church in Lowell. In Port Orange, he was a member of Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church, where he was a special minister of the Eucharist, lector and member of the choir. He was also a fourth degree member of the Knights of Columbus.He is survived by a son, J. Arthur Poitras Jr. of Lowell; two daughters, Melanie Buccola of Port Orange and Denise Hyatt of Charlotte, N.C.; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
